Update: there are fences and scaffolds around this building now. The door to the main hallway is locked, and the stairwells boarded over. My friend and I lucked out in finding a way in to see some beautiful graffiti. But they may likely tighten security as there was even an one-person patrol on a holiday that I went.
Beautiful beaux arts train station, shut down but open for private paying gigs, not quite sure how..Fun to explore, many spaces off limits, earthquake unfit since 1989. No water electricity or gas, sewer. If invited go!
Great shooting location but limited house power to just 1 outlet so bring a extra putt putt for production office
Needs more food and vendors at the SO OAKLAND FESTIVAL
Beautiful architecture but unfortunately they didn’t sell any chicken Marsala.
Needs restoration to preserve this landmark
Needs to surrounding area clean up and development of transformation of a new neighborhood of new places to live and come to.
It was like traveling back in time. The train ride was short, but nice.
This is the former Southern Pacific Oakland Central Station, built in 1912 on what was then the shoreline of San Francisco Bay. Last train service was in 1994 and the city has been struggling ever since to preserve and restore this landmark of a bygone transportation era. It still has its elevated platforms that once interchanged with East Bay Electric Lines, an interurban service.
Horrible street
