Lovely and very well kept. A great place for bike riding, jogging, walking, etc. Great for kids too!
Nice trails that meander along the river. And nice forest rangers.
I enjoy spending time here. Coming from a natural resource-heavy location, it is nice to have an escape of sorts from the congested suburb life. There is ample parking and walks near the river are mostly peaceful .
Nice trails for walking and biking, lots of interesting activities for kids, lots of wild animal nearby next to the Des Plaines river . We saw water snake in wild, tortoise, Hawks, owls, bald eagle and coyote in cage .. nicely maintained, have parking spots . Building was closed due to covid but toilet was accessible .
Love to walk there with my family.
Enjoyed the trail and did a little bit of fishing here.
Ive only been here for the sweetheart night hike they had in February but it was so well organized, and the snaking trails were lined with candles. Dinner was served for this event as well in the nature center and they had a bonfire in the back so we could enjoy some roasted marshmallows for our hot chocolate or smores. Definitely will be coming back to visit during regular hours.
I enjoyed walking through but it was very very humid in there.
Great place to see nature. I was there on a company Sustainable September event. Had about 20 of us helping out on the grounds. Staff was great and very knowledgeable. They were very happy we were there to help them out on one of their projects that they received a grant to complete. Our help helped them stretch the grant money to enhance the project. The water right now is a bit high as pictured. The other picture is a Blue Spotted Salamander. The staff told us all about the water levels and why the salamander was a great find and great for the environment.
Quiet and minimal amount of traffic..
The grounds are nice, we like being able to see the animals up close. Its nice to know that they are taken care of after being injured. We got to see the sap program which was very interesting.
Quite. Great place for a short hike and a picnic.
Great presentations! Very educational! Kids love the animal area and activities!
A surprisingly nice preserve. Great little hike and scenic woods. That nature center is full of wildlife to see.
Fabulous nature center. Things inside and out. All free too. Great for kids.
Great bike and water trails
Beautiful short hike in the woods.
Its so beautiful here. This place has a lot of mosquitos and spiders so its the perfect place to either turn into Dracula or a Spider Person. The scenery is stunning. This Forrest preserve makes me feel like Ive never seen a real tree or real water before. I had no idea water was supposed to be green and murky, but the trees though, they were really awesome. Nice and tall. Besides that, the inside shows reptiles, bugs, and a bunch of random creatures nobody could ever guess that exists. Its overall a very nice place to be.
So nice
Awesome place to take your family...
Lovely place easy to find and very educational
Very pretty
The River Trail nature center at Allison Woods is a nice, albeit small, nature center for families. Its been awhile since I made it very far on the trails with my kids, but they are decent. There are rescue animals on display to encounter. Living owl, eagle, cayote, etc. Nice place for an outing of a couple of hours.
Very calm place, look for mosquitoes, walk with insect repellent. It is especially beautiful early in the morning
Go get out in nature
Best place to hike with my kids
Love the trails and the animals they have rescued. So peaceful
Great place to walk around.
Went kayaking in the Des Plaines river enter here at Allison Woods off of Milwaukee Ave. There is a cement ramp here, right now mostly covered in mud, due to all the rain. We decided to paddle against the current for the first half of the trip. The current is strong, not much chance to rest and relax a minute unless you pull way over to the side. The water isnt clear but it is not full of vines either, like the Skokie Lagoons. We saw 1 deer only and no interesting birds or other creatures.
It is a amazing place to explore
Great trails. Easy access.
Amazing
Very educational and where else can you see owls, eagles, and falcons at feeding time?
Great place for families. Very peaceful and calming.
Great little educational gem with animals and hands on activities.
What a cool place!
Love this place definitely take the kids. Lots of learning to he done here.
Wonderful nature experience
A Nature Center run by Cook County Forest District and offers short walking trails through beautiful trees, a Nature Center with infomative exhibits about the area and a small Zoo. Plenty of free parking. The Nature center is perfect learning place for children and can still catch some of fall foliage. I think it is wheel chair accessible even down to trails which appears to be compacted dirt and stone. Located on Milwaulee Ave., Prospect Heights, Ill.
Im 30 and Ive been coming here since I was a small child. Very informative staff. Its clean inside. The trails are awesome, and we LOVE all the aninals there. Even the skunk!! I love that you can watch them feed the animals. Also I dont know if the name has changed (Im pretty sure it hasnt?), but this was the River Trails Forest preserve. Is it not anymore?? Lol whats Allison woods?!?!?
Good for company outing. Me and my office colleagues had good time here. Wish there was dedicated restroom space instead of portable one
Very cool little place. Great for family and kids.
Very fun. On the first Sunday of the month a person feeds all of the animals thats there and tells you a bit about each one.
Great trail for biking with great scenery
Great place to wander. Kids love it.
Its a beautiful forest preserve, however there are usually a lot of mosquitoes in the summer. Make sure to bring bug spray, and if walking dogs make sure that they are up to date on heartgard and flea and tick prevention.
Excellent nature walk
My girls like be coming here! We go on our nature walk twice a week and find the most beautiful birds I’ve ever seen!!

Great place to go for a hike and take the kids
A great place for nature watching . A great ambiance and set up of wildlife.
Disgusting how they keep animals locked up in cages for peoples amusement, they look so depressed.
To work with this team is pleasure . Very professional team.
