We took the Nickel Plate Express Veterans Day train ride & enjoyed it! It was a good way to honor our military heroes, & my hubby appreciated this! We had a relaxing ride, good conversation with some other Vets, & had a sunny day, which made it more fun. The restrooms available close-by, before the train ride, were very nice. On the train, there is a (kind of steep) small circular staircase to climb up to the 2nd level where the seating is. Someone had reserved the dining car for a private event when we went... a little disappointing because it would have been fun to get a cup of coffee or dessert while riding (or they could’ve had a snack or cupcakes for the Veterans maybe?) Overall, it was a unique & fun way to celebrate Veterans Day with my love!
Best customer service ever! I was quick to get upset after being ill for our scheduled event, and Dagny went above and beyond for my complicated self when rescheduling. I really appreciate everything and am looking forward to our ride. Thanks a million! :)
As someone who grew up around the State Fair train and enjoyed the excursions provided by the Indiana Transportation Museum (formerly located in Forest Park in Noblesville)- it is a relief that the Nickel Plate Express has stepped up to take over the tracks and continue to preserve the rich history of the tracks. The staff was very accommodating and went out of their way to make sure we were enjoying ourselves during the excursions we experienced. I am hopeful that additional excursions with develop as the organization gets older.I look forward to watching the organization grow and to watch my kids create their own childhood memories on the same track as I did.Thank you Nickel Plate Express!
This is a good little day trip destination. Take a leap back in time on a rail car from the 1950s as you travel from Atlanta, IN. to Cicero, IN. Adventures to be had for kids and adults alike (check the web page for schedules). My wife and I did this as an afternoon wedding anniversary trip. The staff was very friendly and the adult beverages were cool. The only thing they could really do to make it better is to put some port a johns close to the station.
New operating line this past year. Runs from Atlanta IN to Noblesville and back. Ride, snacks and a drink for $18 per person. Staff was very courteous and went the extra step when interacting with the passengers. Vintage passenger and dining cars. I really enjoyed the trip with my wife.
I appreciate their keeping the train running, but last years Reindeer Express was much more fun. Last year it began in Atlanta, where you could arrive early and eat at the Choo Choo Cafe and visit Mr. Muffins amazing model train layout. There were also energetic high school girls leading fun Christmas songs. The reindeer cookie was from Taylors Bakery, and there was a craft. This years trip was a pale imitation. It was Meh. Grandma and Grandpa wont spend the $70 next year.
We took the Nickel Plate Express celebrating our 55th wedding anniversary. The train was clean and the attendants were great. We wish one of the attendants would have had a Bull Horn to share with us what we were seeing of rural Indiana.
I rode the ghost train and had a wonderful time! How wonderful that they were able to restore this 1950s era train and give us all this train experience. The train car was decorated for Halloween and there were costumed characters and a story teller. They also had a bonfire for us at the end of the ride and gave us all popcorn cooked over the fire. We also got to tour the haunted Roads Hotel. I definitely recommend this ride. I’m looking forward to the Reindeer Ride!
Was a great experiece for all. ⁰kids had a great time with the events and picking their pumpkins.
Highly recommend taking a train ride. They have many excursions with beverages. Friendly people. Great family fun. If you like trains. Go check it out.
Fun, easy going, affordable activity with or without the kids. Thanks Nickel Plate, we had a great day!
Cute for little kids. Went on the Aladdin and Jasmine princess train. The performers really seemed to enjoy themselves and were sweet to the kids.
It was an enjoyable train ride comparable to others in the area. The double decker coaches were neat with friendly staff. As of this review, the organization is still new and starting out. Given time, this should grow into a wonderful regional attraction.
My son loves trains and had a blast on their Polar Express.
I took my grandkids to the Atlanta Earth Day Festival that they hold every year. The whole town goes out for it and Ive been going for years. They have everything for everyone. Although we didnt get to ride the Express because the prices were astronomical for a single mom/grandma, Im sure it wouldve been a blast.
People were wonderful and it was enjoyable! Seats in dining car were comfortable, train was clean and pie was great!
Pumpkin patch and fall activities was not enjoyable. There is complimentary fall festival awaits, including hayrides, obstacle courses, fall games, pony rides and face painting. Guests should bring cash to pay for pumpkin. There was no ponies. My 2 year old was very upset she didnt get to ride the ponies. The hay ride was around a parking lot. All the activities at the school was under staffed. The pumpkins was already picked. I know the field was muddy. But even to get to the pumpkin was sitting in mud.Concessions are available for purchase in the dining and lounge car. No outside food or drink is permitted. There was no food offer during the 20 min hot train ride. The only food was at the school concession stand.$2.00 for a plan hot dog.$3.00 for a small order of chips and cheese$1.00 for cans of sodaNo place to sit and get out of the sun.Ride was not fun or recommended. Needs a lot more improvement.Very disappointed in this trip.
First time on a train trip, was short but perfect!
Always love the Atlanta Earth day festival.
A charming, fun ride through the Indiana countryside in historic 1950s passenger cars. This is THE premier thing to do in Atlanta.
Great experience my child loved it the train seats are okay it was awkward to share a seat with a random stranger for a family event cause the seats are set up to face each other so its four seats as a group the price wasnt insane but pretty high for the actual service
Awesome store and the inventory changes all the time
Kinda boring
Take your children to go visit this awesome, historic, double decker train!
A very nice train ride, staff was wonderful!
Seats were too small. Music blasted out right in front of our booth.
Nice ride. Enjoyed it very much!
It was quaint my daughter enjoyed it.
The train ride was pleasant enough and all staff were friendly. The owner (or manager?) came by to chat and ask us about our experience. She also had a pumpkin sticke4 activity for the kids. The pumpkin patch and fall fest were pitiful, considering that we paid $56 for my family of 3 to ride there. The patch was a mud pit next to a high school, the maze was a bunch of metal rods with caution tape wrapped around to simulate walls, and the face painting ended up being just a large smudge of blue paint on my daughters face.I understand that this was a high-school endeavor, but the quality of the fall fest was so poor that we do not plan on paying for any more rides on the nickel plate express.
We drove all the way to Atlanta for the 4th of July train ride. It must board from Forest Park. However nickel plate Express I spoke to them over the phone and they told me it boarded in Atlanta I have for disappointed grandchildren we are heading to Forest Park now to see if we can get another train ride!!!
GREAT crew, historic F9 on the lead, a fun event.
Quick ride but fun for the family!
I loved my ride on the ghost express! I look forward to many more great events!
Great fun riding the train.
Double deckers cars were really cool and the staff was friendly. Fun way to spend the day!
I have never written a review but I have never before felt like something was soooo misrepresented as this experience. We signed up for the pumpkin express that left Atlanta and took us to Arcadia. On the website it states “Take a 20 minute ride down the tracks to the Arcadia pumpkin patch, where a complimentary fall festival awaits! The fall festival includes hay rides, an obstacle course, fall games and face painting”. While everything listed is technically accurate it was far from what was reality and what we paid for. First it took 20 minutes because they never went above 15 mph. It felt like we could have rode our bikes faster. Second, the pumpkin patch is actually at the high school. Not a patch but just pumpkins littered about. Third the complimentary fall festival was one of the most laughable things I have ever seen. They had a kiddie maze that was caution tape on some sticks. The obstacle course was a hay bale with tires in between with one more bale of hay. They had one corn hole game and two other toss type games. It was too muddy for a hay ride, which I am thankful for now, because I am afraid of what it would have looked like. Is any one a Spongebob fan? Remember the episode where Mr Krabs tries to get money from the kids on vacation and slaps together a playground called Krabby Land? Yeah, that was better then this...we ended up walking over to the football field to watch an elementary football game. That was at least entertaining. I know this is harsh and I believe this could be a great thing, but they need to invest heavily in this idea, but until then stay away and save your money.
Awesome want to go back soon.
Love riding the train, We live on East Main St. Where alot of cars park a bit of inconvenience that we are willing to live with, But PLEASE STOP putting TRASH in the flower pot.
