This is a hidden gem buried in the middle of Newton, MA. A must-see for those looking for sites off the beaten path. There is no great parking next to the bridge, so plan on parking up the street a ways off. There is a path running along the bottom side of teh bridge which leads to a small platform directly beneath the largest arch. The Echo effect is incredible and unexpected. A few steps to either side and the echo effect seems to disappear. This is a great lesson in acoustics and physics for youth. Unfortunately the local gutter youth take great pride in making the area with spray paint.

Lovely little park - no playground, but many hiking trails and a little island (its actually a peninsula) accessable by a little wooden bridge, that kids love to run around on. And there is a spot under the bridge where you can, in fact, hear an echo.

Hemlock Gorge which surrounds Echo Bridge is a small but beautiful reservation set apart for the public by the MDC. Dense hemlock groves and rugged rock formations mark the banks of the river, mostly on the Needham side and a steep climb from the water level brings the stroller to the west end of the bridge. From there diverging pathways lead down across rustic bridges over a small stream past caves in the ledges called Devils Den. These are formed in the Roxbury pudding-stone formations so called as they are believed to be made up of small stones and lava spewed out of an ancient volcano in that area.

Echo Bridge is a historic masonry bridge spanning the Charles River between Needham to Newton Upper Falls, Massachusetts, and Ellis Street in Newton. The bridge carries the Sudbury Aqueduct and foot traffic, and is located in the Hemlock Gorge Reservation. At the time of its construction in 1875–1877 it was the second longest masonry arch in the country. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, and was named an American Water Landmark in 1981.
