I had hoped that under the new ownership the rink would have some sorely needed improvements taken care of.Great to see the progress of the Olympic rink and understand there is a considerable amount of capital there, but I feel there was a missed opportunity, especially with Covid having the rink shut down for a few months.Upon re-opening, I expected to see clean washrooms and some of the small things that were not working properly to have been addressed. But that did not happen. The NHL rink should be in pristine condition given the amount of time with no patrons. All the things that could have been fixed like painting, having shower heads that function, cleaning the shower walls and floors, having functional sinks, toilets, and paper dispensers. Even if some or even one of these had been managed, it would at least be an improvement.
Staff is always so polite & Helpful. Smooth ice, great to learn how to skate, & they offer a skating walker to hold onto for new skaters. They offer soo much here for ALL ages! Private lessons, (figure skating/ hockey) Stick and puck, Summer camp for the kids, Open Hockey, Curling teams, Huge Hockey tournaments - awesome to watch! FREE WIFI, a veryyyy nice party room, great for birthdays, or even office/work place party/events! They always have VERY CLEAN locker Rooms and bathrooms. Great food!! Cute hoodies, Tee-shirts and Tights in their little store. They have lockers to rent for public and cosmic skate,Weekday Public Skate from 11:00am to 12:30pm for ONLY $7 -$3 for skate rentals, and I must say ... They have very clean and sharp skates, youll never get a dull skate!Friday nights they have Cosmic Skate from 8:00pm-10:00 pm Always have the best music playing! Sometimes they even have themed nights which are always fun! -you can always check their Facebook or Instagram for upcoming events.Ive never been disapointed here. Always have awesome service and a great time!! An awesome, chilly spot to stay cool on a hot summer day/evening
Excellent building and ice surfaces and very caring, dedicated and professional staff and hundreds of convenient parking spaces
They let us in the little Cafe was open they aways have great stuff got to watch a game during this pandemic
Great arena with good staff all around a great place to go for all levels of skating.
We love the learn to skate lesson.
I signed my son up for learn to skate classes. Large rink, figure or hockey skates, great food (and hot chocolate!) Coaches are very skilled and are great with kids! My older son wants his party here next year. Ill post another review after that too.
My daughter loves taking ice skating lessons here.
I didnt like that you have to rent the little walker things. Almost every child under 7 thats not a regular, really needs one otherwise they only get around the entire ring a handful of times bc they cant do anything but hold the wall. Considering you cant leave your child alone and they cant skate without you or the wall, youre stuck at the wall with your kid usually. When you have to pay as much as you do for the skate rentals even at 5 years old, the walker rental just seems like something the Center should be willing to provide free at least for the first hour. They also need more in stock. We got stuck waiting for one to rent for over 40 mins.
Lighting in the NHL rink wasnt great, pro shop and cafe inexplicably close before last games (dont break a stick if youre a late game). Icee in the Olympic rink was eh. Bathrooms were clean and parking was good.
If you like ice skating you only have so many choices to go ..always a fun time!
Ice was decent and staff was great!
Bundle up, its colder inside than out the ice skate attendees were very helpful, they came out to assist with tightening laces and ensuring everyone had their skates on properly. There was even live Christmas music on an organ sounding piano!
Ice is maintained poorly, known potential safety issues of rinks are not addressed. Bathrooms are NOT clean at 8AM on a Saturday. New management doesn’t seem to care.Bonus: Cafe owner continues to be rude to non-patrons.Don’t waste your money or time here if you don’t have to.
It was r first time there and r last. Its run down the ice was horribleWe went on a Saturday and the food court was knit open or the pro shop. The skates are old and run down. I drove an hour for that!!!!! I will wait for the Harrington ice rink to open back up because thats a 5 star!!!!!!!
The ice is terrible. There is a hill in the corner if the Olympic rink, along with many drop offs along the edges. The rink hosts many tournaments that far exceed its capacity and most of the games are played at other rinks. Coming from a player point of view, the rink is pretty bad. The locker rooms need a serious update, and the Olympic rink needs to be re-done. Overall I would try to be at this rink as little as possible.
My daughter has been skating there since she was 5 years old. She has done Learn to Skate, Learn to Skate Summer Camp, Summer Figure Skating Academy and represented the Patriot Figure Skating Club at 2019 U.S. National Championship. She calls the PIC her “home.”
Its nice because not very many people go there but the ice is not as nice as UD.
Saw neifew play hockey there excellent view from anywhere
Only ever gone for curling, but the place seems nice.
It was really fun there. My son did not know how to ice skate, so some of the kids in our Pathfinder group showed him how. They had a nice snack bar. I would definitely recommend you take a group there for a great time.
The Delaware Ducks PeeWee team for the 2018-2019 season was a great experience for my son. He learned a lot and developed as a player. He also has attended the summer hockey camp for the past 2 years and it is the only rink locally that you can get stick and pucks for hockey.
Rink was open but was foggy
Went to public skate. $20 for me and boyfriend to rent and skate. Great afternoon and got a great workout. Well definitely go again.
Rink has been maintained so poorly that it’s hardly recognizable. Olympic rink has the worst ice I’ve ever seen. Uneven, bumpy, truly miserable. Showers are awful, seems like no money has been put into this rink in 20 years (with the exception of “the cove” lol). Sad to see a rink fall apart in front of your eyes...
Ice was in bad condition. Rink needs an upgrade. Snack bar and pro shop are great.
If you like Hockey you will love it
Great programs. Great staff
Nice place for family fun. Friedly staff.
Olympic & NHL rinks, clean, friendly staff, nice snack bar, pleasant experience for first time visitors
Great skating arena,I always have fun theirs so many things and programs you can do.
Nice staff, excellent pro shop, horrible ice conditions: dramatic crown, sinking gaps at edges, standing water well into the 3rd period, board alignment issues with lots of crazy puck deflections, low ceilings with dangling insulation. Again, nice staff but the facility needs attention.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. The ice needs a lot of work because of all the ruts and none of the ice is even.
I love the Patriot Ice Arena because of all the Stick & Puck sessions and public skate sessions. The ice is beautiful and they have great people that work there. I also have a restaurant case you get hungry or thirsty
We have our daughter entered into their 1st grade skating lessons. Their staff is extremely helpful, friendly, with great coaching! Thanks
Great place to skate!
Just returned home from The St Patty’s Day Smackdown hockey tournament at the patriot ice center ! Now the hockey was great competitive BUT when you go to these tournaments you absolutely expect the refs to let some things go to move the games along ! Well in this case they either let too much go or called every penalty that they could with some games being lopsided in the calls !! Also the championship game was totally one sided with the home rink team the Delaware Ducks winning their own tournament ! The rink management received 65 complaints about the refs in this tournament ! That’s a problem right there ! Kids getting hurt and parents going at each other in the stands with parents also going at the refs !! Total chaos ! Would never go here for another youth hockey tournament ! Safety is first priority when it comes to the kids playing and this place is not taking proper procedures to ensure that !!
Had a group outing to learn and play curling.it was Fun! instuctors very knowledgeable and patient. group had a great time.
As far as an ice rink for hockey this place leaves a lot to be desired. Doors to benches dont close, view from stands not good. Ice was OK but not great. Not close to rinks in PA and NJ
Great place for families
Amazing ice, nice facility, great atmosphere, would love to travel back to play ducks
Great place to learn to skate. Hockey games and hockey practice for those who already know how to skate.
The pro shop is great and Dave is awesome. Aside from that we would rather go to Fred Rust Arena at UD where the staff treats you like family and is always willing to answer questions. Good luck getting a response or ANY information about the ice hockey programs offered no matter who you ask. Staff cant be bothered to help you with anything. They just point like monkeys to a wall and dont answer questions. Ive heard other parents complain about similar experiences including on the MOT page and can now attest to the same level of unprofessionalism. Its shame because they lost our business for sure. Dont wast your time or money here. Go to University of Delaware !
I grew up playing ice hockey for the Delaware Ducks out of the Pond and I love the pond... but I couldnt even skate with the rental skates... you guys need to sharpen those if you want people to come back
Mediocre ice rink. 2 sheets of ice with one being Olympic sized. Worst locker rooms Ive ever been in, dirty and old with some being small and exposed and others being large and extremely cold. Rink is old and outdated, and cold use a paint job some time. Pro shop is good though, and they run good tournaments there.
Went with a group. We were all trying to improve our skating. Instructors were very nice, very helpful, and very patient.
New name, some cosmetic changes. Big rut is still along the boards in the NHL rink. Ankle snapper.
Been there once very nice
It wasnt bad, but it started looking outdated..at night the lighting isnt bright anymore and you can barely hear WSTW as the music they played while skating
The ice is awful! So hard to skate on the ice. Will not go back here for public skate. They do not take good care of the ice.
Great snack stand! Super friendly staff.
The building seemed a little work down... The ice had lots of holes, needs to be cleaned better
Has new owners but could really use new ice!Lots of issues with gap around the boards among other things. Blue paint in crease could use s renewal too.
Been going to the Pond since it opened. Its much dinger now & the ladies room needs to be cleaner
Great place with great coaches
Two sheets of ice, nice place, nice pro shop
Nice rink with plenty of seating and very clean.
Its a skating rink no cell svs or wifi
Great staff and a great time experienced or new to skating alike
Nice rinks
The ice arena overall is great but I suggest not going to the summer camp. The kids were rude to me and I felt super left out the counselors (most) talked about dating and one of them said the a word describing some boy. The hockey players cuss in the bathroom and one of the stalls had the f word on it. Another counsleor was talking to my sister and my sister pronounced her friends name wrong and the counselor replied like this: Her name is not that! Like in a tone making her feel stupid. Only one counselor was smart enough to treat everyone equally. And another counselor saw me not paying attention and just yelled my name instead of tapping me on the shoulder like I was about to cry because I was mistreated and I had only 2 friends. 1 was really nice but she didnt stay long and the other one payed attention to her other friends and not me. Never go there unless youre the type of person who is super confident and has a good reputation.
My 7 year old brought fruit with her to eat while watching her brother play hockey and they kicked her/us out. Most places do not offer healthy snacks so we brought our own. That man was awful with the way he handled it. His yelling scared my daughter.
Extremely dated layout of benches leaves little to be desired locker rooms are horrible very dirty
A simple place to get your skate on but I recommend definitely trying the Cosmic Skate.
We had a player get injured today on the ice during an EJEPL showcase game at your arena. The snack shop was not open. We asked to get ice and no one could get ice for our injured player. The EJEPL representative was not in the rink, as he should have been. This is a problem when ice is not available. I think its highly inappropriate .
The best ice skating rink in Newark Delaware, hands down!
The rental skates are the worst. Food was better here then at U of D. But bad skates for all of us. We even traded them in to see if We just got unlucky. No that did not help.We are going back to Fred Rust @ U of D.
Nice place, kids enjoyed it very much, nice prices on food
LOVEEEEE i go here on fridays and its so fun
Cindy is the absolute WORST! She is rude and I would NEVER support this establishment. She has never met me yet hung up on me twice because she said that she would not waste her time because there was nothing available. Just terrible!
Great place after school on a Friday night with friends
Two rinks and a great pro shop.
Could be kept a little cleaner
Ice area is poorly lit
The hockey shop is the highlight of this rink. Check it out
Played in a charity tournament there. First they had no shower in the locker we were in and on the second day they locked the showers. The ice was rough and not well cut. The e tire place seems to have gone down a bit in quality since I last played at the pond.
Great place to learn to play hockey
Did a tournament here. Great facility
Rink was nice but the rest wasnt that nice
One of my favorite rinks for tournaments.
Great snack bar!
Ice edges around boards are horrible on Olympic rink; thats an injury waiting to happen.
Attended a hockey game.
Not the best seating to watch hockey.
Nice staff
Sucks
Our second home!
Hockey all day!
Freezing cold!
Nice sports shop
Nice rink
Lots of fun.
