The James J. Walker Park is the name sake of the Mayor of NYC form 1926 to 1932. He grew up and played here as a child when it was a burial ground and still is to this day the final resting place of close to 10,000 souls. They are buried beneath the Park and surrounding buildings. Pictured is St. John’s Cemetery cir. 1895.

Great little park where you can relax or play sports.

Too many smokers around young children! Definitely not a great park. Needs a serious makeover to clean all of the filth. So close to the pricey brownstones but in need of repair.

Always a great place with the kids.

This park is great for kids and in summer there is a life guarded swimming pool. Additionally, one side is on attractive Leroy St. Which has a public library.

My kids love this playground, it has two Pokemon go gyms in it too. When the weather is warm, theres a sprinkler, the kids love getting wet. Next to the public library, when its too cold outside, you can always warm up at the library.

Walked in to find a bench and eat my lunch from the famous Faccios Delicatessen nearby but upon entering there were a bunch of High school kids taking up the entire park smoking weed on what seemed to be their lunch break. I had to look elsewhere to enjoy my break.

Great turf, great goals, great location. Some of my favorite pickup soccer is at James J walker. I can usually find parking right across the street from it. The fences are really high and the ball rarely goes over the fence. If it does, its usually into the park, and almost never into the street. Shake shack around the corner for after game meals

Sweet area nice park and each time I went be there always people have fun check bnb it out ..hot 97.1 right across street ..school painting program is top notch

Good for tourists

Located under the bridge, it is a nice park to see 4th of july fireworks and to barbeque with family and friends.

Got heckled by some drunk white boys, other than that it was fine..

I cannot tell anyone how much I love this place. this place is an empty space devided in half with steam pipes sticking out of the ground, fenced in, right next to a public school. Something tells me downtown NYC pedestrians wouldnt appreciate a picnic on the sidewalk next to the NYC passport agency.

Best place for soccer. One field, rarely crowded, decent size goals.

Come have your picnic! The best place to just sit and chill. It is clean and great for families.

Base ball games are always fun when people from the street stop and watch. They need a bathroom though.

As far as parks go, this is perfectly competent and adequate. We play softball here for work and it serves as a good softball location. Fair warning: you may need a permit to enter though, as we have had to kick several groups off for a lack of permit.Not something we like to do, but rules are rules.Would receive 5 stars if we would win more.

Its a local park, great for the kids to let their energy out but nothing exciting about it. It does ha e a very nice soccer field thats always busy.

I visit at lunchtime. Lots of students from the high school so it can be a little noisy at the benches. The playground is pretty nice. Better for toddlers. Good ballfield with artificial turf. Used to be a graveyard! And they never moved the bodies. They just broke up the headstones and turned over the dirt.

Nice park, best place to come with children and play with them.

Mix of different ingredients; guys playing soccer, mothers with their children and kids smoking weed. Noone is bothering each other.

Excellent field surface. The city really needs to clean the trash bins more frequently. Its covered in garbage.

Nice part with plenty of storefront and restaurants around for a quick bite or bathroom break. Soccer field is well maintained.

The model of the Cosby show home is right across the street. Very cool to see.

Stopped by the field to watch the local kids playing little league baseball. Great fields in excellent condition, plenty of space for the parents in the bleachers.

Has a beautiful viewing garden on St Lukes Place side of the park.

A lovely green (turf, not grass) sandlot in the heart of the city.
