I love it! Great place for a exercise. You can use the computer and meet some good people, however; it is true also be prepared to see homeless folks just there for a shower. The gym equipment way out dated. I gave it a 4 and a half

I play Dodgeball here. The gymnasium is great. Changing rooms are ok. The showers are nasty.

It was my Old Camp when I was still in Elementary School. The first year was great, but it turned into a Hot Spring that seemed as hot as Hell since the staff became minorly meaner, and no one really liked me that much.

One of the coolest place to be. The staff is great they have a few floors with many options an indoor track, indoor pool, indoor basketball court plus tournaments, indoor tennis, weight room computer room so many options to choose from.

Good place to workout if you live in the area. Its a city gym and it has reasonable pricing. Clean and well kept. Nice weight room. There is a CULTURE at this gym and you need to make sure you understand it. Keep in mind the neighborhood. That is all I will say.

John the Chief lifeguard is a true Legend ... Hes been there for more than 30 yrs .. clean pool and bathrooms and showers.the pool security and staff are very nice. Dont like the fact that men jump in the showers naked for long periods of time... They should know better for the simple fact that kids attend this family pool... I feel these individuals should go to an all men spa and try their luck there ... Disgusting to say the least. My family and friends from the neighborhood attended this pool since babies... Showers should be with your swim trunks on .. no need for total nakedness .. go to toilet stalls and change there if u need to be totally naked.

Another very nice NYC Parks gym with pool. The staff is professional and courteous. The pool is rarely crowded as is the gym area. Nice place to exercise on a budget

Great place to exercise. Take interesting classes and mix with s diverse crowd. The pool is not too crowded and the water aerobics class is fun. It’s a little run down but basically safe and clean.

The pool is not overloaded, nice workout but limited resources, few computers, close computers at 3pm and the showers run for short periods and are cold to lukewarm. I prefer warmer showers.Its clean and tranquil if you dont mind the shortcomings listed. Best communal pool in town and friendly staff

Love this place to get my lap swimming on. There are usually less people in the evening so it makes lap swimming pleasant. Decent size pool, 20 or 25 meters I think... spacious locker room and close to 2 subways.

As my preferred fitness center for decades this rec center embodies everything GREAT about a public facility. Theres something for everyone and the staff is a joy to interact with. Those of us that have been around the block a few times still know it as Carmine Street.

Best time skating with my gym family.We can use another evening of fun.But maybe have the children skate in a different area or time.We were constantly dodging and tripping over falling children.When they came at me reaching and grabbing, I would skate around and out of their way. Every woman for herself.They will heal faster. And yes I laughed.

Decent facilities, best for socializing. Most people just go there for that. Lines can form at machines during peak hours, chatting will pass the time. Events are great and staff is friendly. Definitely not the cleanest gym, but far from unclean.

I love the pool. The staff are friendly. And you get to look at a classic Keith Haring mural on the cement wall that runs the length of the pool. And its free.

Id love to say it was bad luck but it seems to be a recurring pattern with these people. This is my 2nd attempt to give parks benefit of the doubt. After speaking with other members it is clear that glaring issues are being ignored. You have children monitoring children essentially. When management is approached about it. Their solution to physical hitting and bullying is to pretend / ignore the problem. Looking for a after-school program or recreation center for your kids to attend? Look elsewhere . Save yourself the headache. Its obvious people employed here are simply here to collect a check. It starts with management.

Never been myself but see a lot of family / kids having a good time in the pool during summer time. I go to the pool in downtown community center normally.

Tony Dapalito Management Staff decided at 630p to shut down the regularly scheduled evening basketball open play for paying members to replace it for free movie (public) on top of that police was called to have the paying members removed claiming the members were being disruptive! Unacceptable!!!! The way the staff addressed the situation was beyond upsetting. I have been a member for over 20 years and this is the first time and I am seriously considering cancelling my membership and moving on!

This gym is ridiculous for the price. Pool is nice and the people are friendly. Not fancy but totally worth the price.

The worst place to bring your kid for summer camp. My son has been both emotionally and physically abused by other children while going to camp here. Weve spoke to them before about the other children harassing him and they didnt do anything about it. The last straw was finding out my son was getting kicked by some other kid. I pulled my son out of their summer camp. The counselors are obviously not watching kids and not doing there job. I wouldnt be surprised if they are high just sitting down on their phones and not give a damn about the children. I wasted my money putting my son in their summer camp expecting he was going to have a great summer and instead it was the most terrifying and traumatizing summer he has ever had and they wont even give me a partial refund. I hope their summer camp gets shut down or at least get new people to watch the children.

Great place for a workout and the membership fee is really reasonable. They also have an indoor pool which is fantastic. Although they do need to keep it a bit cleaner.

Cleanest City Pool Ive ever been in with my kids especially when you go in the evening its never crowded!

Not the fanciest facilities, but it does have basketball courts/pools that other gyms dont and its the best value in the city. Very nice staff.

I come here primarily to workout. Although the facility is small, there is everything you need. It doesnt get too crowded no matter when I come

They wont let the kids use the bathroom anymore. The playground doesnt have one so thats a really rotten thing for them to do.

NICE AND CLEAN PLACE

I hate this place so much. I only go there for the indoor pool. Ive been there four times and two times I was yelled at by old ladies. There are so many old people here and they are so RUDE.The pool is small. The lanes are ridiculously narrow. Its usually cramped in there. My swimming ability is at beginners level, I can only swim half a lane and on the shallow side. These two old ladies stands there in my way all the time chatting in the water, not swimming. I always swim around them. However, one of the old ladies has the balls to tell me that I kicked water in her eye when I was swimming hahaha! This is the pool. Youre going to get wet. Im not the type to start a fight, I apologized to her and explained it is not intentional, I was taught to kick hard and that I didnt mean to kick water in her eye. In fact, I am here to practice my kicks in the water. She proceeded to say that I was taught wrong and this other old lady who she was chatting with jumped in and starts telling me how I am so wrong. I didnt even do anything to the other old lady! I feel bullied. I would move away but the distance I can go is right where they are standing. After that, they moved away to the other half of the pool where I wont go and they gather in a group talking about me. There was about 5 or 6 old ladies gathered in two circles looking at me and whispering to one another LOL! Feels like I teleported back to elementary school with old ladies. They are so childish.Other than all that, the shower has no privacy. Its one big room, no curtains, no doors, and everybody showers there.

NYC Parks rec centers are a GEM even in a city as luxury laden as NYC! Theyve got a new computer centre with BIG MACs, a big POOL (rare even at the posh clubs) and indoor basketball! - boom! BONUS - this place is in the heart of West Village! Keep your eyes open for CELEBS walking around 6th ave - like John Waters or David Byrne! Nothing like New York! :))

ALWAYS A FUN TIME IN THIS PARK.HANGING OUT WITH FRIENDS AND THEN SWIMMING IN THE CARMINE STREET POOL BEHIND THE PARK, DRINKING AND LISTENING TO THE BOOM BOX WITH FRIENDS.

Best outdoor pool

The outdoor pool is extremely busy during the summertime – if you’re lucky enough to score a chair, guard it with your life. Otherwise, enjoy the shallow and clean pool.

Cheaper than private gyms and there is a swimming pool.

I like this place and it fits my exercise needs. The only down side is homeless people who are mentally unstable and smell often come just to shower and not to exercise.

Everything is historical, however ipthat is not good for doing sports.

Its a bit noisy, and can be a little dirty, but its great for a free swim. Also you need to bring a lock or they will make you buy one.
