Love everyone doing their thing, I get inspired by the energy and workout harder!
Kinda dirty but great place to chill at
This place can do with a few updates and a few new workout machines. But I guess you get what you pay for. Its no planet fitness or NY Sports club but you can get your workout done here. It also has a swimming pool and fitness classes.
Teaching and dancing every Sunday 1 to 5 pm for very small and nominal costs by a highly skilled teacher. Anyone can join and learn and have lots of fun while learning, and a very friendly crowd.
A much needed neighborhood recreational facility in need of sprucing up and investment by the Parks Dept. In the summer kids and adults have to wait on a long line that extends down the front steps and block and wait for a turn to get into the pool, which is overcrowded. The demand is such that swimming classes fill up and many kids don’t get a chance to get lessons that summer. In the mornings they reserve the gym for certain hours just for seniors, by the way seniors used to mean over 55 years but about 6 years ago the parks dept changed it to 62, so they could charge the full price for membership for 7 more years to seniors. This effectively excludes a lot of people putting kids through college and trying to hold down costs to pay for it, but they obviously don’t care if they deprive this age group from having an opportunity exercise.
I really like this rec center its clean and comfortable bring your lock Im learning to swim and exercise for a healthy life NEVER TO LATE TO LEARN!! Senior friendly
Nice building. Looks classic but has modern features and reasonably priced classes. A bit of a walk to the subway. A bus stops nearby.
Love the stretch bars and the jogging track outside.
I took a shape up yoga class. It was great.
Very good pools, one indoor and one very large outdoor pool. Fitness center and classrooms. Not upscale, its a city facility. But the price is excellent.
Use to come her with my dad when i was 6 years old. Now Im 40 and take my kids here. Great family fun
A bit dirty, and old rustic equipment. However the equipment works just fine. Depends on how picky you are about those things. Haven’t used the pool. Wish they had extended open hours. But yeah, some places can’t do that.Staff are friendly, and they have a great veterans discount.Otherwise, an excellent gym for its cost.
Great place to learn swimming for children, teens and adults.
They close both pools for 12 days in JUNE. I joined two weeks before the closure mentioning how excited I was to use the pool and no one mentioned the upcoming closure. Also the pool is fenced off for certain groups during the day. Be careful you may not be able use it. No particular care in the schedule is paid to working adults using thus during lunch times. Pathetic service.
NYC Parks & Recreation site Great place for exercise at a great price
Nice and clean for a city run recreation Center
For a city athletic facility this place beat expectations. The only negative is location.
One of the best public pools in the area.
One, if not the best nyc parks & recreation center. And I uabe been to most...
Chill, small rec center with indoors pool that is 4ft on 1 end 8 at the other, cool staff and warm in winter:)
Asser Levy is an NYC Parks and Rec property. As such you dont pay much, but you get a lot of bang for your buck.1. Reasonably sized gym with all basic equipment - it is almost never packed with people except during rush hour.2. A very nice indoor pool that has certain times reserved for children and other times open to all adults.3. A very welcome outdoor pool that is operational during the summer.4. So many classes and group activities that are free of charge - it really produces a sense of community.Ive been a member for three months and Im already seeing and recognizing the same faces over and over - its pretty nice.
Ive been a member for many years. Classes are great. Instructors are motivating and very caring. This place is part of the citys parks dept. It may not be state of the art. Theres no fancy reception, no juice bar, no towels but the gym has pretty much all the machines and equipment you need. This is no frills and no fluff. Early mornings usually consists of older folks wjo tend to socialize more than really working out but most people are friendly and always willing to lend a hand. Best value in NYC.
Great public gym with a pool, workout room, free classes and ping pong in the lobby. The outdoor pool operates in the summer with strict rules, like no color t-shirts (you better check before you get there!) It could be cleaner, yes, but this is the best gym value in the city. One cheap membership gets you access to facilities all over town. Gym snobs will not be happy at this basic location. Fortunately the construction work outside for the new park and the VA hospital is now done and looks great.
Great recreation area with so much to do. A small track with a mini field in the middle(not real grass), basketball courts, wall-ball courts, playground/swingsets, a body-weight exercise area and outdoor PING PONG TABLES. I havent been to the pool yet.The only thing that hurts this rating is the location right next to FDR Drive makes this pretty loud.
I had a ball when I went there a couple weeks ago the staff was very friendly very helpful they showed me around largest facility in the city I went for the swimming pool indoor heated swimming pool awesome
Good facility and staff. They just need to be more diligent about safety concerns. Multiple occasions when violent and psychotic people come in, threaten others and start fights. If they dont take action and improve safety procedures in their facility, or hire security, people can get seriously hurt or killed when someone unhinged comes in.
So awesome that they have a easily accessible pool for lap swimming. Weight room has most basic equipment. Hard to find a better deal with any privately owned gym. Considering how little you pay for a yearly membership ($~120), you get slightly more than what you pay for.
Its a city-owned recreational center ... best course offered is their Learn to Swim ages 18 months & up. Kids should always know how to swim. They even have swim teams!!
Too many people hanging out in the locker room not working out
For a City Rec center I would recommend this place. Indoor and outdoor pools. Adequately maintained weight room. Variety of outdoor activities including a mini track and handball/basketball court.
A pool in the summer what else is there to say?
This is an interesting place. Its part of the parks departments recreation center program and so membership is super cheap (free for
Best price per year for a workout
Outdoor pool is free and enjoyable. Other free facilities include body weight exercise equipment on the grounds outside the center and ping pong tables. If you want to use the outdoor pool (summer only of course) you have to bring a lock for your bag. They will ask to see the lock when you enter.
Ashley Levys is very nice have a nice heated pool that the outside is really nice has a little feel and a lot of swings and basketball courts in all that little workout exercise place I guess for the elderly its not bad
This place is beautiful nice view and the rooms are very nice
Great lap swimming especially 4 us 60s folks. Am or from but cool swim
Friendly staff and nice facility - swimming pool, pool table, ping pong, etc
Its a smaller rec ctr than many throughout the city. But most of the staff is pretty nice however, while swimming I noticed a few men who needed to check the pool, one of which had to compliment me by saying very nice. Not sure Im gonna swim there again.
Cheap price but old and not spic and span. Good value overall at $11 a month
I came here for shapeupny yoga class. Instructor was good, and there were props available for use. However, the women at the front desk are unprofessional and unattentive.
Happy that they have a Variety of Updated machines.
30 years ago I used to go swimming there.
Very nice recreation center with an indoor pool. Calm space and clean environment.
The staff has become more professional over the years with changes in personnel. The life guards are always friendly and helpful.
Best bargain in the city. Indoor gym, indoor pool, free outdoor pool from last week in June through summer. You also have access to all of the New York City Parks and Recreation facilities throughout the five boroughs. All for $75 for 6 months or $150 for a years membership.:-) New York Racquet Who?
The indoor pool is so pretty. It has a fountain and skylights. The 2 outdoor pools are free. Membership for the indoor pool (and other recreation center benefits) is $50/year for adults, $10/year for seniors, and free for kids and teens under 18.
Remember it being nicer as a kid... Constant construction tears up the new park right after its built... What a waste
For 25 a year for young adults, its definitely worth the price, friendly staff too
This is a great public pool and I love the lap times available for exercise.
A great place to swim and exercise and free lunch
For the price, this place is amazing ! The pool is great and locker/ bathroom super clean.
More complete than my ex-girlfriends gym Equinox with people who are really serious about working out for their health at a fraction of the price. One year is less than one month at the aforementioned gym
This place rocks at $75 for six month. Certainly helps that it is right across from Peter Cooper Village. Has indoor/outdoor pools, gym (15 cardio machines) and pool/fusball/table tennis.
During the summer, use of the outdoor pools is free. To use the indoor pool, you need a membership. Everything is clean, relaxing, spacious and modern.
Very nice place to Swim outdoors and for a reasonably priced membership you have indoor pools.
A beautiful historical building providing affordable fitness and swimming facilities
Great pool, surly employees except for one older gentleman who is happ to show you around. Locker rooms are clean but in gross disrepair.
Great place to work and take your family to.
Really enjoyed the beginners yoga class!
Cute and in an awesome location
Absolutely terrible gym for one of the richest cities in the world, staff is not very friendly. Machines, equipment, and space is not very well kept
I really love the swimming pool and organization.
Went there for swim lessons with Susan. She is an AWESOME instructor!!!
Do not like the atmosphere here! Facilities are fine, but the people attanding here are not so friendly and seems selfish.
Good place with lots of activities.
Celebrating 4th of July
