Small venue with some table seating in the back and standing in the orchestra area. Good sound and reasonable drink prices. They serve food too but I have never eaten there. They dont have a coat check which is annoying if you go there in cold weather and dont have a seat. It gets hot during the show and you have to hold your coat the whole show.* I received a reply saying that they do have a coat check but when I was there on 11/18/19 I asked two different employees and both said there wasnt one.
Fantastic location with a great selection of food, drinks and eatery to go to. Great customer service and prices. The area also has a outdoor area to sit and eat. Also the mall has seating so you can eat indoors. Most of the food stations close around 8 pm so if your planning to visit, be sure to get there early. Also most of the food stations serve the food at a fast time as well. Again a great place to visit!
Awesome place to see a band. Felt comfortable in the space provided. Not too big not too small. Great cornered stage layout. Staff was inviting. Drinks a bit pricey but Im sure their rent is too. Great location.
Its a decent sized dance floor.... And a lil side gallery for seating away from the crowd... Great party space... Open yet intimateWay overpriced drinks... Wasnt even giving straws... But besides that was cool
The former home of the historic Village Gate Theater, where the likes of Bob Dylan and Janis Joplin once graced the stage, this subterranean venue generally features very good sound. Seated shows tend to suffer from the typical jazz seating arrangement, i.e. patrons are crammed into place and may have to contort their head in strange angles to see the stage. General Admission shows tend to be a nicer experience, although sold out shows can be jam-packed. The VIP section is tucked into a back corner on a platform. The bar offers a decent selection of cocktails and has solid food. Be forewarned that your phone will likely have minimal service this far underground.
Amazing intimate venue to see favorite bands
Great venue! I was at the back by the mixing station and its still the closest Ive ever been to Peter Murphy
This place is epic. Went for 80s night and cant wait to go back. Bar was easy to access because its big. All around great experience
We came for Drag Queen bingo and had a great time. $10 for a set of cards. There were silly prizes and and fabulous hostess.I had a delicious salad but be aware there is a two item order minimum. Cocktails were not cheap $15 but my cousin loved her spicy Margarita!
Jessie’s Girl - Friday nights 80’s revival is simply the BEST 80’s night I’ve ever been to. If you’re a fan you MUST go. We were really blown away by the 3 singers and the band. Amazing set list and the crowd loved every moment of it. If you’re visiting NYC do add it to your list. Worth the late night!
Great place to see some live music. We were there for some Metal. Place is small enough to feel intimate, but large enough that your face isnt in the next guys hair. Prices very reasonable for NYC, and excellent selection of beers and spirits. I look forward to the next event at LPR.
Great venue. Checked out Bigflo and Oli here. Good sound system and great atmosphere.
Fantastic venue with amazing sound. Saw the best concert of my life here. Kevin Barnes is amazing and hope he comes back soon.
Great venue. The Art Battle was cheap and very fun.
Nice hole in the wall music venue.
Linda’s bingo night was 10 star but the venue was not a 5 star. Bathrooms were awful. Expected of a club but the place was not kept clean. Food was terrible. Cocktails were pretty good. So be sure to eat before coming here!
I like this venue because its a lot more intimate then some because of the size. They also seem to showcase the artists really well...Ive seen a few shows here and every one had great sound - really love it.
What a fun event! I absolutely loved the burlesque show. A really fun atmosphere, and the drinks were really good. The matcha cocktail was my favorite. We also had sandwiches, and they were perfect portion for a late bite to eat!
Great venue to catch upcoming and international bands. Acoustics and amplification need to be more flexible and better tuned to support the myriad of musical forms that are showcased there.
Updated review: Came to LPR once again to see Echosmith, Weathers and Jayden Bartels on 2/13/20. Great venue and staff as always. Good prices on drinks too. Will definitely be coming back soon!Original review: Very nice little venue. Went to see Astrid S on 9/17. Be prepared to buy at least two items in the showroom, theyre reasonably priced. I felt a little unsafe since they didnt check bags, I asked them if bag checks were necessary and they said no. Other than that it was a pretty venue.
Great venue in downtown New York City. One of the best the city has to offer and truly independent and non-corporate!Used to be called the Village Gates in the 70es and is now owned and operated by musicians who created a space to host one of the most varied, eclectic and interesting music programming the city has to offer. The venue offers food and drinks, seated or standing, with a stage that can also be setup in the round and it comes with a fantastic sound system, modern state of the art mixing consoles and operated by knowledgeable staff and great sound engineers who make things sound great night after night. Highly recommended!!!
Excellent venue for music. Not too big. Good sound. Always have had a great night there.
Great venue. Have been there a few times. Shows can range from lines around the block and standing room only, to cozy seating. The service staff are great and I have always enjoyed the shows at this location. Worth a try if you are interested in a fun, eclectic venue.
Great venue for a concert, first time Ive ever been. The band was incredible, totally going again.
Great place to see a show. The one and only drawback is that the stage is very low so if youre not up close it can be hard to see the performers if the show is crowded.
Great venue for a show. Sold out but not oversold so it was comfortable
Cool spot with live music. Friday nights are a ton of fun
Great entertainment space. Good Layout, good dance area, good staff. Great performers.
Had a great time. Drinks werent strong but the Freedom Party was live.
Definitely love the atmosphere of the venue! The bartenders were really nice and skillful. Their ten X drink was the most delicious mixed liquor Ive ever had!As a suggestion I would look into getting a bigger more elegant fish tank hence the name and all.
The drinks are over priced for the quality and the food is grossly expensive for items that should only be served to a child as a packed lunch. 9 bucks for frozen tots? A dry sandwich that comes with potato chips? The wine is awful as well. The tables were wobbly and the arrangement of the seating was also unnecessarily tight. I will not return there or recommend it ever.
Based on my experience I would give 3 stars but I can see how I could rate it higher an a different night. I went to a sold out show and it was very crowded with poor sight lines. This made it harder to enjoy the jazz musicians playing. Sound and ambience was good. Serving drinks in plastic cups is also kind of lame. Ill probably go again.
Great venue to watch live performances. We were sitting in seats farthest away from the stage on the main floor and we still felt very close and intimate with the performers. The bartenders make excellent cocktails! Theres room to dance in the back if you were so inclined. Im definitely coming back to see other shows.
Excellent atmosphere. Corner stage makes for an intimate experience
Went last Saturday with DH and friends...and ooh we had a blast! Jessies Girl and Party Rock bands performed our favorite songs. We danced through the night on floor and stage! :D We could tell everybody was there with the same intent: enjoy each others company and the bands. Crowd was enthusiastic and mostly in their 30s/40s. Musicians are very charismatic and top notch, what a great vibe. Not bad for a cold night in the city!
Good entertainment, place had some interesting smells.. like a basement.
1100 capacity venue. Unorthodox layout. Good sound. Drinks are expensive. $9 draft beer.
Acoustics and lighting aren’t bad. Drinks are reasonably priced. Wish there was some kind of viewing spot for short people.
The 80s Show was a total surprise and an Excellent time! I think every genre of music was covered, including The Cure (our favorite part). Steer clear of the 18 bachelorette parties going on at the same time and guys who cant handle their liquor and you will have a blast.
Very small but cozy place, went for a Kpop concert/party event and everything went well :)))
Loved this place and I saw my fav person Mary J. Blige
Good venue, beautiful aesthetic, great costumer service, delicious food. Just saw a concert here and it was incredible! I wouldve given 5 stars but took one off because everything is overpriced. Eat before you come because a ham sandwich is $12.
Went here for art battle, really cool place! Much larger interior than I expected, good sound system, all in all a good place to see a show.
Its exactly what you would expect. I went for 90s night, and it was a ton of fun, extremely loud, and not packed. They are wheelchair accessible. The small gin and tonic I needed to dance to Nelly (it was actually more of a 90s-00s night because everyone but us was born in the 90s) was $13.
Great experience. Friendly staff, amazing Soundsystem.
I feel like its 90s night every night, but thats not necessarily a bad thing. Theoretically they rotate the schedule of themed cover bands, but regardless of what the theme is if the night, its sure to be a good time.If youre a serious music goer, this isnt the place for you. If youre not interested in carrying on a conversation with your friends, that also wont happen. But if youre in for a good time casually singing along to some throwback hits, then buy a ticket in advance and skip the line.
Freedom party was lit! Great time.
The cool thing about this place is the size and good sound quality. You can see your gavorite artist so close that it feels that you are hanging out with them.
Great live music venue that provides a pretty relaxed atmosphere for hearing some great bands. Mostly general admission but good bar scene. Wish there were more places like it!
Went for the art battle event and the setting and vibe is cool. They also have a bar which sells drink and snacks.
Great venue, decent bar prices, even at capacity it is still enjoyable
I have been there twice, and both times the soundsystem has left lots to be desired. If I can hear the people at the bar over the headliner, you are doing something wrong. Avoid at all costs
So much fun bringing back the eighties. Jesses Girl rocked it.
What a great place for fabulous entertainment. We went to see the Burlesque show Spoilation amazing. Highly recommend checking this place out.
GREAT NYC small venue.EXCELLENT PA.
Freedom Party!!! Great music, great crowd and venue.
The 90s era music was GREAT.. Hit after hit was played
Herbert Hollas Freedom Party! - nuff said...!
Its really about the performance that youre going to see, but since this place books acts that I enjoy, I love it.
Very intimate venue. General admission, no seating.
Bartenders rip customers off. Be aware of what they bring up and bring you back.
Man....I had so much fun looking forward to the party
I love this venue although they should really get someone to design the sitting area much better when there is a sit down show.
Great spot. Very intimate and friendly service. The sound was awesome, not a bad spot in the house.
Just the right size for the show i saw. cocktails were great.
Good drinks, quality soundsystem, venue wasnt over packed with people.
This is one of my favorite hang out spots. Im there at least two or three Saturdays a month for Jessies Girl. The staff, security, and bartenders are all lovely and the drinks are strong and well priced.
Amazing sound system! would love to come back for more shows
I went for an old school party. And had a great time!! Drinks are a bit pricey (no place is perfect) but well made. Plus the DJ is good youll be dancing all night
Came here to see Peter Murphy on August 10th; nice little club, and the bartender makes a good old-fashioned. Be warned that its greatest strength is also its greatest weakness: the stage area is very small, so bring some earplugs (or get some from the bar).
They making alot of money and they not fixing the place need alot of repairs.
Really solid concert venue. Perfect size.
Vibes, good. Drinks, good. Music, excellent!
Good place to see a show. Larger than some Villlage clubs, good acoustics, table seating or stand at the bar. Menu includes sandwiches & snacks; I had a salad & it was fresh. Bathroom is above-average for a club in the Village.
Favorite music venue in Manhattan. Always a surprising variety of acts coming through — Ive seen it all: singer-songwriter; hip-hop / art rap; folk-y electronics; string quartets; and perhaps my personal favorite, le rap français (shout out to Bigflo & Oli). And to top it all off, the venue has one of my favorite stage configurations — even if you arrive late to a packed show, youll still be able to find a clear line of sight, unlike e.g. many of the Bowery Presents locations.TL;DR: check this place out.
Unique place with an intimate feel. I saw Dean Wareham here and it was a really nice show. The audience can get right next to the stage—there is no heavy security vibe—and it’s a great place to see a show. Functional bar, good vibes and chill people. Good spot.
An amazing event with the SyncSummit.com
Went once for a show. Cool spot.
Very intimate space. Not too much hassle. Good sound system. The only design flaw is that the only bar is on the far side of the room, so you really have to fight your way across a crowded floor to get a drink.
This is such a sweet venue. The atmosphere is classy, laid back, and low key. Ive seen two shows here so far and they were both awesome. The sound is great, and there really isnt a bad place to sit or stand.Phone service is pretty limited, but youre at a concert, so who cares.
Le Poison Rouge is one of the very best small live music venues in New York.. Up there with Mercury Lounge, Rough Trade and St. Vitus, its in an elite class.
The music and entertainment were amazing. Great sound.Door doesnt check IDs.Drinks are way overpriced.
Great intimate performance venue one of the best in the city.
Nice space, had a good time!
Very cool place. Beers range from 5 to 11 dollars I went with the Narragansett for 5 bc the more expensive beers were basic .Good dance / chill space
You might not get into the Poisson Rouge (Red Fish in French) - the locals call it the Poison Rouge - I guess they dont speak French... anyway, if you dont get in, the whole corner of LaGuardia and Bleecker are packed with live music bars. Its Greenwich Village, after all.
Great spot, came for the Colombian Festival. DJ was great, drinks were good(a little on the high side) can get quite hot. Wish the A/C worked a little bit better.Def reccomend if you want to have a fun night, tonight was amazing.
Went to a “Fleetwood Mac” night where there was only techno music with like a few Fleetwood Mac beats. I think it was called Fleetmac Wood. Total scam.
Went to Jesse’s girl and 80s night. Absolutely fantastic. We had a blast! The show is terrific and a must either for tourists as for locals. The whole personnel is great, super welcoming and eager to serve, extremely strange for nyc.You definitely have to go now!
Came to see the Cruel Intentions show, which was great. The two item minimum per person was a little obnoxious since I’d just eaten, but I certainly understand the need to make profit in the space. My cider was great but the tater tots I ordered were a little stale and not particularly warm or flavorful.
Amazing, interesting, happy, and positive energy in the air amongst a crowd of diversified people. The good classic music is what brings the positive folks out to lounge...The same listening ears match up with the same like minds equal a successful night....
One of the more eclectic venues in NYC. Small enough that it feels intimate, big enough that it gets some great headliners. From jazz to doom metal to folk to drag queens to burlesque. New York City really has it all and this venue represents that. Drink prices are reasonable if youre a local (obscene if youre from a different city but hey, theyve gotta pay the rent somehow). If your favorite band or artist is playing here youre in luck. If not, you could chance it with a winter jazzfest show or one of their many others. They clearly love music.
Had fun at drag bingo here
Had a great time with my family & a few friends. Will definitely return
We went to the 80s night here and had a blast! The DJ and cover band were amazing. Such a fun time, I would highly recommend.
