We were charged $42 admission for 3 adults, and our visit was limited to 2 hours only.A hefty price, and therefore we expected something really good. According to their website you should have high expectations. It is nice to have a walk in nature, thats the only reason why I give it 2 stars. The board walk is not maintained at all, and some observation sections are completely closed off.The planks on it are old and partially loose. Even if you are trying to sneak, every other step sounds like a drum beat, and animals get to hear you coming already from a quarter mile away.Nd thats why you dont get to see any wildlife close up.So if any, you get to see the wildlife only from the far distance, which defeats the purpose of going there in first place. The information tables are old, some of them are simply missing, showing you animals you dont get to see (same as the website). In fact you get to see more wildlife driving North to South on Logan Blvd.Taking all those facts in account, I find the admission completely overpriced.$3 - $5 would be a fair price, and even for this money I would not come back a second time.
Our trip was great! We heard alligators bellowing!! I’m a Floridian and I’d never heard that sound in my life. Our walk was beautiful, full of bird sightings and even a baby alligator. The walkway is well maintained and even some spots to sit and enjoy or take cover if there is rain. We enjoyed reading all the signs and had downloaded the kids scavenger hunt from the website to see what we could spot! Adults like scavenger hunts too ;) we were ecstatic to spot the zebra butterfly that is only around this time of year.
Overall, overpriced for a walk in the swamp. The old growth forest is breathtaking but we had the misfortune of seeing almost zero wildlife while being as quiet as possible and walking at a snails pace. $14 an adult is too high for what you get.Staff was nice. Boardwalk needs some work (loose boards, closed observation areas and missing information signs). We did stop at the crew bird rookery down the street and we saw a lot more wildlife in the first half mile than the entire walk at corkscrew....for free!!!I would not return for the price paid but I do think it has potential...surely there is wildlife there...we were just unlucky.
Beautiful 2.25 mile walk through a gorgeous swamp. Not to be missed! The staff is friendly and ready to answer any questions. Coming from New Jersey, Corkscrew Swamp was liking visiting another world. The plants and animals were unreal, and we were overjoyed to have an alligator swim right up to pose for pictures! There were so many amazing anoles and even some terrifying grasshoppers but every creature and plant was so amazing!
Corkscrew Swamp is my favorite Wetland orientated park in the United States. Why? There are so many pluses versus the rest. The only feature not provided is camping. It has the room, but the main reason it is there at all is the untouched water, wetland plants and animals.Animals dont get names. It is not a zoo. Animals are in their natural settings and you are the visitor, walking or gleefully skipping along a Brazil wood raised walkway. This preservation is supported by visitors. Each plant, bird, insect, alligator, mammal is wild. You are there to protect and respect them. This is a self-guided tour with rangers along your exhilarating walk for help and knowledge. Each pass you buy is good for 2 days. Their provided food is filling and if you dare, there are chairs on a raised deck outside the center, but most of us enjoy the inside air conditioning, gift-souvenirs shop and dining area to catch our breath and talk.Rather than spoil your wild adventure, I am providing pictures, as it is a photographers heaven on Earth.
Highly recommend this wonderful nature preserve with a 2.5 mile boardwalk trail through a Florida prairie and cypress swamps containing some truly magnificent old growth cypress. Enjoy the abundant wildlife along the way. We saw painted buntings, egrets, herons (blue and grey), eagles, buzzards, red hawks, various woodpeckers, ospreys, numerous wrens and gnat catchers, squirrels, otters, gators and whole panoply of rare insects during our all too short 3 hour visit.
Amazing miles long raised boardwalk over a cypress swamp. Shortcut available if you dont want to take the whole long loop. Handicap accessible. I saw people in wheelchairs along the whole length of the walk. Expect to see most of the classic swamp birds and creatures up close as well as treats like painted buntings. Restrooms and visitors center and American style lunch type food available in cafeteria like setting. Plenty of free parking but entrance fee is $14 for single adult but less for kids and seniors etc. Audubon naturalists/volunteers are all over the area and are very helpful and cheerful. Super duper place to visit.
Love this place. Second time here and just bought their membership. I recommend going on a cloudy day, and dont forget your binoculars!
An impressive area. The boardwalks take you through areas that would be normally very hard to navigate. Loads of birds tucked into many different habitats and the ability to get up close and personal with a lot of plants as well.
Really cool place to visit. 2.5 mile board walk with different terrain. Really liked the old growth cypress forest. Good chance to see lots of animals and birds. They have a nice visitors center and gift shop. We were very pleased with our visit here.
Great Audobon-managed preserve; part of whats left of Western Everglades. 2.5 mile boardwalk through last remaining old growth bald Cypress stand. Many woodpeckers, hawks, white-eyed vireos, wrens, black and white warblers-- and stunning flora, including many rare orchids. Only and hour from Fort Myers.
A truly amazing place. Boardwalk takes you through diverse environment. Lots of birds and animal viewing. Staff was great.
Beautiful place to go for a nice walk, take in the fresh air, and see some wildlife. Be sure to reserve tickets online, currently they are not accepting walk-ins.
One of the most beautiful places in Florida to visit. I had a wonderful day here walking the boardwalk. We saw a few families of raccoons, big gators, 22 baby gators, many species of wading birds, heard plenty of frogs, saw baby softshell and musk turtles, and the habitat diversity is grand! I cant wait to show people this gem.
Great place to hike and exercise. Will burn tons of calories. Whole round is about 12 miles, a bit long, especially with all the gators in the middle of the trails. Expect to see and/or walk around them because they WILL be there at the right time. I personally have never had a bad experience there and no one else I’ve hiked with or met there, but never get too close, just in case.
What a great boardwalk full of wildlife. Saw an alligator and a bunch of birds along with many different ecosystems. Just a peaceful walk and nice staff to help.you figure out where to go.
Outstanding place to visit. I seldom give 5 stars....See this place.... AMAZING...We visited in Mid April...lots of exotic birds...critters of all kinds and BIG GATORS...ITS A RAISED BOARDWALK...SEE THIS PLACE....WORTH THE MONEY
Ive lived in SoFla for 25 years and zoomed by this place a hundred times and didnt know about it.That was 24.9 wasted years, because this is a real gem. I will definitely return for a visit in the summer; they have rain observation shelter in the middle!
Great place, relaxing and surprising. We saw raccoons, snakes, woodpeckers, alligators, old growth cypress trees. Staff were on hand to give interesting facts. Excellent boardwalk totally handicap accessible. Love this place.
We had a nice family day out at Corkscrew swamp and enjoyed the board walk board, which took about 2 hours for the big loop. The weather was fine in the late afternoon and we got to spot a lot of animals that were starting out for the evening.
A wild walk in the woods..Florida style.. Kinda pleasant walk through cypress woods via a very long boardwalk loop. Lite breeze and no mosquitos on our visit. Worth the drive..
Im 13 and I had a great time with my 3 brothers 10, 8 and 5 looking at the wildlife.I attached a bunch of pictures as well.
This is a great restoration/preservation project and place to visit. There is a 2.5 mile boardwalk which winds through several kinds of native habitat. Its largely shaded, but still hot, and bug protection is highly recommended. Theres lots of wildlife to view and families will find it interesting & informative. We highly recommend it!
It was a pretty good trip from what I can remember from 8 years ago
We stayed in Florida for two weeks and this was one of the best experiences we had during our holidays. Please if you are in the area do not miss this sanctuary as it is very peaceful and beautiful as you can see in the pictures. It can be hard to see Wildlife depending on the weather but we did get to see a baby alligator, a woodpecker, and some beautiful birds.Mosquitoes were not really a problem
A very solid walkabout. The rangers are very polite and knowledgeable. Great staff, expect to spend about 2 hours, my 8-year old daughter was a little bored by the end but I enjoyed it.
This place was awesome! Spent 4 hrs birding, but could probably walk it all in about two or less. Wonderful boardwalks, so nice in the fall & winter. Might be hot and humid in summer.
A wonderful place to experience various vegetations and wildlife up close on their boardwalk!
Great natural sanctuary. Easy accessible with a stroller or wheelchair
This place was amazing!!! The trails were very well maintained and there was plenty of wildlife to view! A great place to visit while on vacation, especially to see the beauty Florida has to offer. My family and I highly recommend it.
Highly recommend. Very cool boardwalk, saw all kinds birds, gators, snakes and reptiles. Naturalists on the boardwalk to help you and make sure you dont miss anything. We luckily timed our visit during a bit of a feeding frenzy at the end of the dry season. Took some stunning pictures. Make sure your camera is well charged. Its full of beautiful scenery and wildlife.
This was a great experience. It was a short jaunt through Florida wilderness, clocking in around 2.25 miles overall. It felt longer than that though, given the amount of things to see.The ground was still fairly wet given the time of season. We went in early April. We saw a multitude of both land and sea creatures in the swamps. The boardwalk was beautifully built and stretched around trees both living and downed. We saw a section that had been left damaged from hurricane Irma that the Audubon society has left damaged to show the impact of the storm. We managed the trek easily even with some members of the party being elderly. The walking surfaced are dry and wide and allow for wheelchairs and strollers.
A wonderful place to see so much! Different birds, Alligators, Turtles, Ghost Orchids. Just live this place!Take you time, be quiet and you will see all the wildlife!
Such a wonderful place to visit. Cant wait until the next trip.
Spent about 2 hours out at the Sanctuary last Sunday & it was absolutely amazing! We were able to see birds, butterflies, snakes, baby alligators and even a huge fish eating spider! The guides were wonderful too! They would walk by and let you know of any creatures to keep an eye out for and everything was very clean!
Highly recommend going here . 2 mile walk through the swamp on a boardwalk. So much to see .
We had a wonderful time at Corkscrew! Beautifully maintained 2.25 mile boardwalk through different ecosystems of the everglades. Great opportunity to see wildlife!
What a beautiful place! The rangers were knowledgeable and helpful. The sanctuary was beautiful and wild. I loved it here, wish we could have stayed longer!
Incredible place for a good walk and to view swamp wildlife. Highly recommend visiting if you like a good outdoor walk. Only slight drawback is a $14 charge but you can use it the following day as well- it’s still well worth it
We had a very nice day, but what made it worthwhile was the Rangers with binoculars who could point out Wildlife that would be easily missed if you walked slightly too fast. Binoculars are a must. We went during the dry season, so a hundred percent of the wildlife was in the wet areas. If you have small children, the zoo is more entertaining. The plant life is interesting, and the ecosystems, and it is all natural. It was interesting to see what it was like for centuries. The Naples Botanical Gardens has more to explore, if you want variety.
Great place to go and take an insightful walk within the swamps of South Western Florida. The walk is nice and easy, you get to see swamp flora, hear the wind through Cypress forest or even see a gator sunbathing. Nice souvenir shop at the entrance. It was still recovering from Irma when visited so the price was reduced.
Always love coming here, we love seeing tons of wildlife in the beautiful setting!
Beautiful trip through wetlands. The boardwalk allows you to see an area unpassable otherwise.
This place is amazing! Nature diversity and great place for relaxing and beautiful sceneries for pictures.
Very peaceful walk thru natural Florida. Saw many birds, fish and a few Gators. Recommended for nature lovers and bring your walking shoes.
Nice boardwalk trail. We saw some alligators, turtles, raccoons and a lot of different birds!
One of my favorite birding spots in South Florida, the well maintained boardwalk takes one through several different ecosystems. Wading birds are seen in the lake and marshes, while songbirds, woodpeckers, and raptors are seen throughout the prairie and forested areas. Nesting birds are not uncommon if you visit during nesting season. Other wildlife is commonly seen from the safety of the boardwalk including alligators, raccoons, lizards and snakes. Bromeliad, wild orchids and swamp lilies are a few of the flora that grow in this wonderful preserve.
A beautiful walk. Many birds and creatures of you are quiet and patient. Take your camera and binoculars.
Great place to visit. Lots to see.
Corkscrew swamp is a worthwhile escape from the people and traffic of Naples. It is real Florida but unlike some of the old, tacky Florida attractions, it is clean, fresh, and natural. Our guide was knowledgeable and engaging. We brought our three kids (10, 8 and 3) including a stroller and it was a favorite day for all of us. What an amazing place in this world. Thanks for all that you do!
Fun visit! We took the longer route, I suppose about 2 miles which took us about 2 hours to complete. We saw an otter in a stream, a barn owl, a momma gator with her babies, and many more fun animals! Definitely worth a visit!
I really enjoyed this walk! Excellent information posted throughout the trail, and fantastic views of some monster Cypress trees. A great spot for photographers, bird watchers, or anyone looking to experience some authentic Florida interaction. I would definitely bring friends back here! Oh, and the German woman from Arizona working the admissions and gift shop was super friendly, and helpful!!
We saw a wide variety of wildlife while we were here including racoon, turtles, owls, alligator, green and brown anoles, butterflies, various birds, and an eastern diamondback rattlesnake. We had the pleasure of seeing 26 baby alligators sunning themselves with the mama gator off in the distance.
Great place for a nature walk. We saw a bunch of wild baby alligators and adults from the safety of an elevated boardwalk.
Great place to visit and learn about the local ecosystem. We saw a lot of birds while walking on the boardwalk. Also saw a raccoon and a large alligator. The visitor center has ample parking. The gift shop offers a variety of wonderful products and some great art prints.
Amazing place. Check out the photos for 4 I took on the same day.
Have been coming to Corkscrew for decades to walk through the swamp, relax and commune with nature. Each walk is a new experience and never disappoints.
Beautiful, spacious, buzzing with wildlife. Informative guides from Audubon who were both passionate and relatable. Plenty of walkable and accessible boardwalk throughout the preserve. A variety of habitats, bird species, plant life and animal life. A must-visit for SWFL visitors with interests in natural environments.
Best little nature park in Florida. Try one of the swamp walks.
Spendy for a short visit. $10-16, per adult good for two days. I recommend going at the beginning or end of the day to see the most activity.
A great place to visit, especially during dry season.
Beautiful day at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary! Lots of birds, alligators, anoles, turtles, snakes and flowers in the oldest stand of Cypress in the U.S. Your days admission is good for two consecutive days.
This is one of the best maintained and most appealing walking trails (boardwalk) in the State. It was easy to manage a wheelchair, once we got past the more crowded first part of the walkway. Its worth the admission price. December is the right month to visit!
Great place for birders. Dont forget to look for the Hammonds Flycatcher rarity.
We saw a variety of showy birds, ancient trees, raccoons, and other swamp-oriented elements of creation! It was quite beautiful and easy to navigate..the guides were knowledgable and helpful. The natural history was interesting.
Nice walk through the foliage.
Easy boardwalk trek through forest and swamp. Lots of wading birds and alligators.
Great experience, nice walk. We saw a few wild life. Baby alligator, pig frog and different species of birds. I will definitely visit again.
Saw many different animals today, the staff and volunteers have done and still do a wonderful job..we have been many times and everytime we come its a bit different but always enjoyable. Nature is an incredible thing.
We were turned awayDidnt know we needed a timed ticket. We only saw 1 other couple, and next day Thursday, she said was booked..So we lost a day of getting to see things in Florida
A great way to see the natural Florida wild life.
Such a wonderful walk through nature! Birds, turtles, alligators and more seen from an elevated boardwalk. This was a much needed escape from lifes fast pace, easily accessible from I-75.
This middle of nowhere Audubon sanctuary is a great several hour getaway. It has a nice welcome center with a gift shop and cafe. There is a 2 1/2 mile elevated boardwalk walking path that has a shorter route if you have less time to walk or physically challenged. There are covered seating areas along the path and a few observation areas as well. Bring a camera and binoculars. You can also rent binoculars at the gift shop. If you do not have your own bird watching guide book, they have those for sale in the shop as well. They do have strollers and wheelchairs if you need. At the beginning of the walking path, they have a handwritten list of animals and critters seen that day. They also will place photos of animals in the general location of where they are usually seen. There are volunteer guides who will set up spotting scopes and show where the critters are hanging out. Every time I have been, there have been guides but not sure if they are there all the time. Though you could walk the path fast, it is designed for you to discover and enjoy the swamp and the wildlife inhabiting it. Depending on the time of year, the water levels vary. Regardless of when you go, dont forget insect repellent. The gift shop carries it if you do forget. It does get into the woods but there are plenty of areas youre out in the sun so if youre a ginger and not from Florida, SPF 50 may be your friend. I think park entrance fee is a bit pricey but it allows you to come back the next day. As of January 21, 2018 it is $14 for adults, $6 for college students with IDs, $4 for students ages 6-18, and kids under 6 are free. Its $10 for Audubon Society Members.
If you are in the Naples area, dont miss out on this treasure
One of my favorite places in SW Florida. Beautiful ~2.5 mile walk (with a shortcut, if you arent up for the full length) through the old Cypress Forest. Always tons of birds and critters to see as well as numerous panoramic landscapes that you can meander through while enjoying the sounds of nature. Additionally, there are a number of informative plaques and graphics along the way that contain super interesting trivial knowledge but written concisely, so you cant help but learn a lot and become deeply engaged. Did you know that the Audobon Society started out as a group of bad ass guerillas, protecting the egrets from poachers? I didnt until I went here. I always assumed that they were just binocular-weilding, Ornithologists, but in fact, during the time of the gold Rush, egret plumes were just as valuable (for hats and fashion) and the Audobon Society protected the nests so that poachers wouldnt slay the adults, leaving the orphaned young to die. Really amazing stuff and a gorgeous afternoon walk.
Went out first thing in the morning. Its been very warm for February so the bromeliads were already starting to bloom as well as a lot of the trees. One thing to note is the sheer amazement that comes from standing in front of trees that are 500+ years old. I would definitely recommend to bird watchers and general nature enthusiasts.
Great place for nature at its finest!
Interesting place to spot wildlife. The boardwalk was enjoyable to walk. But quite a few intense bird watchers might shame you for talking too loud.
Great place for a walk and to see wildlife.
Beautiful place. Great for tourists that want to find out about the local nature. Staff is very friendly, one even gave our kids some binoculars for free to see the wildlife
Such a peaceful place. Great place to go with the family
Cool stop. Take a break. 1/2 hour walk
Beautiful, natural cypress swamp with boardwalk. Lots of wildlife! Bring mosquito repellent!
Corkscrew Swamp is a special place if you go please take your time most people rush through the best way to see Corkscrew is to move slowly, set on the benches, take in the scenery and observe the diverse wildlife.
Was a great day wish there was more time.
Beautiful park, would go back at least once a year.
This is a great place! There is a 2.5 mile wheelchair accessible ramp through the swamp. We saw birds, raccoons, and an alligator! Well worth the trip.
Our first time at the sanctuary, it was great! Looking forward to our next visit.
A must for anyone. Great place to view an area that feels untouched.
Weather was perfect for a beautiful dry walk thru a swamp. Park is very well maintained and very interesting. Saw lots of wildlife and cool plants. Will go again.
Great place to visit
The winter months are good for a quiet board walk and enjoying nature. The animals were not as active as they would be during the summer, but there were good bird watching opportunities. Two pictures of a bird seen during my walk are attached, enjoy!
This is a wonderful preserve. The walk is on a boardwalk and it’s shaded in most areas. You can see birds, alligators, all kinds of critters. I love this place.
Wow! As frequent visitors of Everglades National Park, this place was really impressive. The boardwalk is in great condition and there is a great peace to this place. Staff at the welcome area were very friendly.
Well worth the time and admission. Go early. One of the best things to do in South West florida
Lots of an amazing things to see; it was worth the trip from Fort Meyers to visit! I love going somewhere that also is helpful to good cause, like the preserve to protect these beautiful creatures.
