I and 3 friends come to Myrtle Beach or Hilton Head every year for a week of golf and camaraderie. We will often play courses that are our favorites, but we always try to play one or two courses that are new to us.This year we decided to try Man O War, despite its $70 price tag, because of the hype, which I now suspect was self generated. While the course was in generally good shape, there was NOTHING that justified the price. We have played the Witch, and really enjoyed that course, despite the fact it was older and not in as good of condition as Man O War.We will not be back to ManOWar at $70 a round. It is a $40 course, at best.
This is a beautiful course with great water features and very nice staff that tried to make things as best as they could be. However, the greens were ok very bumpy and inconsistent. The fairways were littered with mowed grass clippings to the point you couldnt tell fairway from rough. Bunkers clearly have been neglected but I think thats due to covid. Also the maintenance staff has no cares about your golf game. Starting and running the mowers right behind people trying to tee off and hit. Running the mower right in front of you and not getting out of the way. Visually its the nicest of the 3 mystical courses but couldve been so much better.
Nice course. Enjoyed all the water and sand traps. Challenging but not impossible. There had been a lot of rain the week before so there were muddy spots and carts were restricted to cart paths which was understandable. Only complaint was the greens. They had been aerated and were EXTREMELY hard and bumpy. Putting was very difficult. Bought our golf through mbn.com and it came with lunch coupons with two free drinks. Well worth the money we paid. Staff was friendly.
This is definitely one of the best tracks in the Myrtle Beach area. If youre looking for a course that isnt impossible but still brings a challenge, this is a great track for you. The views are amazing, there is all kinds of wildlife from herons to bald eagles, definitely a must play if youre in South Carolina!
Nice course, but it was very wet, cart path only. Played with an older feller, he had to walk way to much.
Cant say nothing but good things shot 42-39 courses in great shape greens Fairways tee boxes everything I highly recommended
Course was in good condition but some areas were very wet. A lot of ball marks on the greens. Greens putted true.
Great course. Water isnt in play as much as youd think.
Very tough for me from the white tees (70 year male; 20 handicap). Might have been more fun from the senior tees. Lots of water! Layout and course condition was nice.
Pro shop not friendly. greens in bad shapeby
Fairways were real good. Greens pretty true. Definitely a must play if in the area.
Best deal in Myrtle beach. Beautiful golf course with excellent staff in perfect shape at a great price!
Pretty good condition although I didnt receive an ice towel as others on here have mentioned. The turkey cheese sandwich was good thanks for two free beers and sandwich that was nice at the turn. Had plenty of time as they dont send people right out the be keep about a ten or fifteen minute delay from group to group so that was nice as well. They actually kept me as a single which is what Id prefer I hate being paired with others I just like to go out on my own listen to music not too loud of course and play a round at my leisure.. heck I even found 4 pro v1xs when I caught up to the foursome in front of me. Lots of water so lots of mosquitos be prepared by bringing repellent but if not aloe works good for itch relief much like when have sunburn. Greens were fast and I had a blast. Thanks ManOWar for the fun day today.
Played OCT 21, 2019 - Was able to get a time as a single - which is pretty much unheard of in my golf experienc e- usually its come on over and well get you out with someone . The staff was extremely friendly, and chatty for that matter, letting us know exactly what was going on at any given time. I was paired with another single (local guy) and two gentleman from Canada for the round. The course itself had come back quite well from the rain that they got down here on saturday (we came in during the tropical storm and tornado warnings) and was not at all as wet as I expected it to be. The greens, while a little hairy, were receptive and rolled very well. Not sure how they went from poor to pretty much perfect in 3 days. Granted there were a couple spots on the 16th green that could benefit from some work, but that was really the only green that had any issue.Overall, i think many walks of player will like this course. As a 4.8 index, i found it challenging even from the regular tees. The course has plenty of penalty for errant shots, but its not incredibly hard, IMO. If you can loop it straight for the most part and put it out there 150 yards you can get around pretty well. The greens will give you a few fits though, as there are a bunch of subtle breaks that - if it had been dry and the greens running super fast - would probably be an issue for higher handicap golfers. All in, Man o war is really fun. The beer is cold and CHEAP for a golf course. The sand traps could have used some help, but I give that a pass because of the amount of rain that we had experienced, as well as my shared notion of if you dont like playing from it, dont hit into it. Just a little hard is all.Lost 3 balls in the water, shot 79 for the loop. There are birdies to be had, ladies & gentleman, but theyre not going to hand them to you, especially on the par 3s. Pace of play was kind of an issue but to be fair - we made it in about 5:15 and it was cart path only on the entire course. Thats very acceptable in my experiences with golf in Myrtle Beach for under $50.
Beautiful course great staff
I enjoyed this course very much. As a friend of mine put it, theres a lot of eau on that course. That was no joke. Water on almost every hole. It was challenging, but a good deal of fun.All the staff we dealt with were very friendly, and the iced towels that came out on the 9th hole were life savers. The sand traps that I had to play out of were all too firm and wet. The club house is showing its age. The food wasnt great, but lunch and two beers were included in our greens fees which made it taste better.Theres a whole lot to like about this course. If the club house were spruced up a little so that their over water deck were usable and the sand traps were in better shape, I would have given it 5 stars.
Good place to play for me now that distances are way down. Likeable layout, pretty easy on the knees.
The years course was in great shape and the staff was very courteous. I really enjoyed myself and will make another trip back soon.
Fun course, in great shape
Good scoring course. Greens are fast. Club house a little run down needs updating. Rumor of the course become housing development. Sad. Dont need more houses
Pase of play was excellent. Fun course to play. Easy to understand flag placements.
Course was very well maintained. Greens were very consistent. There was a lot of water but none of it really played into the course. Was disappointed in that aspect. Was expecting the course to be a little more exotic.
Beautiful golf course. Friendly staff and great greens. Very well manicured and cared for
Was in great shape looks like they putting money into the place
Great shape, best deal at the beach.
Just visited here with a group of 8. What a wonderful time we had. Great course, food and staff. Beautiful course. Had a wonderful time. Highly recommend playing the course along with the wizzard and witch.
Not perfect but not bad. We enjoyed the day and would play it again.
One of the friendliest places to play in Myrtle. Always enjoy my round here
Bent greens are all marked up by tourons not fixing their ball marks. Greens are soft and slow but thats what you get with bent greens. Otherwise the course conditions and weather was perfect. Awesome customer service on the course and in the pro shop. One of the best courses on the Strand. I would give it 5 stars but there are some people who just dont give a $$$$ about taking care of the course down here.
Very Fair test of golf. Course was in nice condition and the greens putted true. Cant ask for more than that
Great course lousy attitude of pro shop. You are a brother to them by playing the course
Great course and great layout. Youll love it! Lots of fun for the price
Course in great shape but the clubhouse condition and bag drop location need some investment. Snack bar staff very attentive!
Beautiful course people friendly in the clubhouse fairway screens in excellent condition I will definitely be back to play this again

Great experience. Staff was polite and helpful. The course was in great shape. You would never know there was an ice storm last week. This course has quite a bit of water which includes two island greens. Wide fairway made the water less intimidating. Speed of play for 18 was 3.5 hours which is great. I dont remember the last time I was under 4 hours at the beach. If have the opportunity to play the course I would definitely recommend doing it.
The Man O War is in better condition thank thé 2 other golf courses of thé group (Wizard Golf Link, Witch Golf Links. Defitly those courses need investment to keep their golfers.
The course has a lot of water to cross and avoid. If you enjoy a challenge, you will love the Man O War.
Great course. Bring extra golf balls... Lots of water!
Good course, ice towels are a nice touch for the players. The rough is deep easy to lose your ball even when you think you know where it is! Two thumbs up!
Great course, fast greens that roll true, lush fairways, level and well maintained tee boxes. Lots of water but most of it doesnt come into play. Challenging sand traps with some steep lips. The staff is super friendly and the marshals did a good job at checking on the pace of play. The clubhouse could use a makeover but I wasnt there to sit around.
This was a great course. Would rate it at 6/10 for difficulty. Most holes have open fairways with little to no dog-legs. The clubhouse does not have a locker room or shower and the food is sub par which is why I give it four stars in stead of five. Staff were all very friendly and provided iced towels while we were playing which were a life saver in the July heat.
Play three days ago course was in great condition only problem they aerated greens. If I knew the greens were aerated I never would have paid the money. They should have told us that the greens were are aerated
Staff were friendly and helpful, course was in good shape
Played August 6, 2018Greens are in phenomenal shape. Unfortunately the rest of the course was almost unplayable. I understand there has been rain in the last few weeks but the fairways were horrific—resembled a weedy, muddy swamp, mower tracks everywhere. Any shot landing on the fairway would plug 2-3” into the ground. Both of our pairs of shoes were completely covered in mud by the end of the round. Tee boxes were largely uncut. We were given a complimentary greens fee as a promotion through our hotel, but were charged $24/person for cart fees which I feel is a huge overcharge, especially considering the current shape of the course.Positives: the girl on the beverage cart was friendly and came around plenty of times during our round. A gentleman came around with ice cold towels and water during our round which was a nice touch.
Great shape. Excellent personnel
Course was well kept and greens were good and firm, although when coming to Myrtle from Florida to play golf ..... I was not liking the the fact that you could see all the holes from one to the other. Not very challlenging, One up and One down, Pretty much straight back and forth. The witch and the Wizard are all basically the same courses.... And you can see those holes from all three courses, It was included in our golf package so not too sure how much it was, We played the first week of Dec. A little chili but not a bad course over all. It was well taken care of!
This golf course will be a challenge for most golfers, but it will be a fun challenge. There is water on a number of holes and there are some tight greens. The fairways are in great condition and it they have a good putting service. The staff is excellent at helping in getting you set up with a tee time.
This is an all-around great course. Course is kept in fantastic shape. Greens are just about perfect. Course is challenging. Alot of water to be aware of.
Excellent price, well maintained course
Water everywhere awesome little course we had a great time playing beware of mosquitoes lol
Wet & soggy in all the fairways, and un able to drive carts to your ball. Wooden bridges are in very poor and possibly un safe to drive on. Course needs lots of repair.
Played here twice in 4 days. Rough was forgiving yet flyer lies were eminent for early rounds. Greens rolled true. Staff was solid. Cant ask for a better course. Tough yet forgiving track. Would definitely play again
Great golf course first time playing there i will be back again
Usually a great experience, we were very disappointed today. No rangers monitoring the pace of play, we played the first 8 holes in 1:45, and the next 10 holes in 3.15 and in the dark. The club house was locked and there was nobody available to complain to or speak to. Course was in nice condition and as usual the staff we did deal with was very pleasant. We probably wont be back for any slow rounds.
In very good shape great greens
We were the first group off at 730 am the course looked like a hay field!! There Was Three Holes Without Flags we got our cool towels when we were on 17th hole and the free lunch the hotdogs suked!! Great time for 50 bucks none of these coursessions will see me again!!
Love this course. Challenging, lots of water and sand. Greens were fast and accurate. Nice staff as well.
Decent course, but the club house needs renovation. Greens fees included lunch and two drinks, soda or beer. Staff is friendly. Course is medium difficulty, has alot of water and the greens were fast.
Course is nice, traps bad, facility needs upkeep. Staff is nice.
Really great course in MB. Enjoyed the layout of the course. Had parallel fairways but the course was wide open and very forgiving. Was a really windy day so that increased the challenge. Will make it a routine stop when I came to play golf in MB.
Dont let all the water scare you. Very playable course for all levels. Greens were in great shape.
Very well kept course. Challenging but certainly not too difficult. Despite water on most of the holes, an avg golfer like myself was able to avoid it for the most part. Very enjoyable round of golf.
Most challenging yet fair course. I loved it. Almost water in every hole. Wide and full fairways.
Best greens in Myrtle Beach especially if you are used to bent grass greens one of few in mrytle Beach visit the neighbor course the wizard
After arriving in M.B. yesterday, we chose ManOWar for our first round. We are a group of about 75 Snow Birds that play together during our stay. Most of us have either Prime Time, or Passport discount books. Well, our buddy booked our tee time and we went to the course. When we booked in, we were greeted by a male and female who appeared very unpleasant. The first words out of the mouth of the female was, we need to see i.d. for the passport holder. This was not possible because he had booked but unable to play... Needles to see this was said in front of other patrons waiting to pay...well talk about embarrassing..when we said he was not present, we were told the price would be $52.00 each ($15.00 more per person than with passport).By this time, we felt as if we were some sort of criminals...so we paid the extra before any other scene was made. Then we got on the course. We were not pleasantly surprised when the greens had all been spiked and top dressed. Well, as an avid golfer, I was ticked..first by the way we were treated...second because no one told us of the condition of the greens...We now know that the cardholder must be present..we get it...but I think it would have been good PR to either take us aside to explain, or let it slide... We were two golfers..not 20.After the round, my partner entered the pro shop and told the same friendly male that he was not happy for the price vs conditions...his response was..SORRY TO DISAPPOINT YOU SIR..!So please understand our group of Snow Birds will continue to play golf in and around M.B...BUT because of the lack of professionalism at ManOWar...it will be elsewhere....(if 75 of us were to play twice during our stay, that makes about 150 green fees lost for your course because of $15.00 per person surcharge...good business....)
The course and the work staff were exceptional. We had a great time despite the high winds.Would recommend it to all golfers
Great course. Friendly staff. Played a tournament today. Fantastic time.
Great greens. Great prices. Awesome staff
Course is wide open and greens are perfect. Staff if friendly and all levels of golfers will enjoy the layout.
Staff was excellent. Course was in great shape. Have to play again now that Im more familiar with the course.
Excellent conditions and friendly staff
We live in this golf course and have had our window broken twice in the last couple of months. The golf course refuses to help us with repair. They make money and we it costs us money. Terrible course management.
Course was wet, cart path only but was still fun and
I have mixed reviews on this golf course. On one hand I like the different holes that make you play certain shots off of the tee and into the greens. The greens were really good when we played and the fairways were good as well. It did take us about 5 hours to play but the wind was up and it certainly would wreak havoc on the golf ball at times. We ran into a horrible bug issue on almost every hole which was a huge distraction. The bugs were similar to mosquitoes but they did not bit me which is unbelievable because of the huge swarms. The golf course is solid but you really need to know where you are going because there are hidden trouble spots that come up without any warning.
Alright course. No flags for the many water hazards, greens werent that kept up. Paid a high price for the course when it should have been less considering the conditions of the course
Nice course one of my best bang for your buck greens are quick and lots of challenging holes.
Good challenging course with lots of water to hit over.
Course is challenging but fair. Conditions are generally very good. Quite a bit of water. Greens fee includes a premade sandwich or two hotdogs chips and two drinks, beer can be the drinks. Friendly staff.
Pro shop nasty and the guy wasnt very pleasant. The tall lady with dark hair was excellent
Awesome place if you enjoy 5 hour rounds with no ranger in sight. Also you may want to bring a lunch because there is no beverage cart.
Really enjoyed the course..
Awesome course and well kept. Would recommend this to all golfers.
Very nice course. The food in the club house is terrible. My son aND I had lunch as part of our golf package. Nasty hot dogs is not a lunch.
Beutiful course. A lot of water, but it was really fun to play.
The Course was.nice The Staff Not So Much Hated being Rushed With No One behind US Also Ball Washers Had No Water OR Towels So Bring Your Own Was Expected Better Customer Service From This Course
Love the course just wish the rough was cut down a little more.also like the ice towels, thats shows your guest you think about them.
Great golf course and the staff are very nice and friendly.
Greens on great shape but were super soft
Nice course. Friendly staff.
Nice course, fair, bent grass greens in good shape.
Great course.. not as hard as you think!
Great time good shape cool starter
Great course to play, with lots of water but very fair for the average golfer.
Fabulous shape tough track
Fun layout, friendly staff, worth playing
Very nice course, challenging but fair.staff excellent.
