Great hour tour. It was just what we were looking for on MLK day.The tour might not start off great. They have you watch a 10-15 min poorly produced video of the home’s history before going over. In my opinion they could completely cut that out. The talking and in-person storytelling was much better. The tour guide did an awesome job telling the story of 54-60 as though we were there. He had lots of anecdotal evidence and retrospection, meeting history. I don’t think he could have done a better job delivering historic wonderment to the kids in the group. He tailored the tour to the audience well. There may be some points that are more round about, but the tour is a well spent hour of your time while in Montgomery.Make sure to follow the Dexter Parsonage up with going to the MLK’s Church on 454 Dexter Ave!

Unfortunately, we stopped through on a Monday when the museum is closed, but also this Covid has them closed for now. Still, just being on the grounds, sharing the history with my kids, it was still very moving. We hope to get back one day, when we can tour not only this, but other museums in the area as well.

Hidden gem! We were the only people there and got so much out of it. We had an awesome tour guide and are sad people are not visiting this place more. Its a historical landmark for the Civil Rights Movement in the U.S. This place marked me personally and Id strongly recommend it to anyone driving through or in the area.

You had to tour options we did what it was just a walk through the smaller one and the tour guide he takes you through the house and he talks about Martin Luther King as the man not the activist not the legend you read about in the books he brings Martin to life it was amazing and it was more than I thought it was going to be if you are in the Montgomery area you have got to make the stop if you truly enjoy history because the way they do these tours its like you were invited into the home and you are invited to meet the man not the legend not the story. My husband who had no interest in going to this left happy and glad to hear done it

They embrace each visitor with a genuine hug that makes you feel like you were greeting a dear family member who you hadnt seen in years. Oh my!!! What a wonderful, informative and engaging tour! This is the home that Dr. and Mrs. King lived in when he was pastor of Dexter Street Baptist Church. If you think that this is going to be a random walk through a home with a bunch of old stuff in it, you are in for a treat! They have carefully preserved every feature of the home, inside and out, from front to the clothesline with a sample of one of Dr. Kings shirts on it, out back. With an inspiring and knowledgeable tour guide to bring every moment of our tour to life, we enjoyed our visit.

My best friend and I stopped here on our way to Florida. So glad we did it was a moving experience. There is parking right behind the house and you walk in and pay your fee at the house next to the parsonage. It was $30 for all four of us to go and well worth the money. Plam on spending about an hour there. We did not have Dr Sherry give us a tour but the woman who did our tour was very knowledgeable and kind we enjoyed her very much. When you first go in theres a video that they show you and explain the people who were making a difference in the area leading up to Martin Luther King and the people that worked side-by-side with him. I love the way they tied and Rosa Parks and the bus boycott with what was going on at the time. It wasnt just about Martin Luther King but everybody who work together to make a difference. Next they take you into the parsonage itself and explain each of the rooms and the part they played in Martin Luther Kings life and the decisions that were being made during that time. The most moving part of the whole house tour is at the end in the kitchen. They play one of his sermons that describes a moment that he had in the kitchen we all were moved to tears! Powerful moment.

Amazing historical tour of Martin Luther King Jrs home. There is free parking behind the home and the staff are so friendly. The tour begins with a short video followed by a tour of the parsonage. Our guide was really informative and took time to point out the smallest details and knowledge about the King family. Following the tour, there is an opportunity to visit the King Johns Garden for Reflection which was a fitting end.The tour lasts about an hour. We were travelling from the UK so it was difficult to book a time before we arrived but by just turning up we were the only couple there so it was like a private tour.Would recommend this to anyone in the area and really glad we chose to go go hear whilst visiting Montgomery.

10/08/2016The Dexter Parsonage Museum & Interpretive Center was one of the most rewarding tours that we could have experienced. To be able to transcend back into the life and legacy of the late, great, and symbolic leader of the Civil Right Movement – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s and his family was breathtaking. The tour couldn’t have been illustrated better by anyone other than Dr. Shirley Cherry. Dr. Cherry exemplifies her passion and compassion for love and equality for all which was evident during the tour, which I might add she stayed after hours to do… (AGAPE LOVE) We personally want to thank Dr. Cherry for the experience and the enthusiasm she generates, which is very contagious. This tour is a Must Do when you visit Montgomery, but make sure you tour with Dr. Cherry I promise you, you want leave the same way you came in…Emotionally!Thank you, Sharon & Tony Fuller“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away” – Author Unknown

Very moving experience to visit this parsonage. Dr. Cherry is a former RI school teacher and when she learned that most of our group was from the RI State Council of Churches, she went into overdrive to explain every single item in the house. Being in a place like that underscores what we dont know about such key individuals -- how their daily lives transpired and where they ate breakfast. You MUST visit the parsonage and the Dexter Avenue Church where he preached.
