This transformed Greyhound Station tells a thorough story of the Freedom Riders and what they endured trying to desegregate bus terminals. Well done.
The presentation at the beginning was very heartwarming and made the museum great. Also they were super sweet with everyone in line trying to give them discounts if they could. Was not necessary, but added to the warmth of the place.
The original, one and only! Factual history in documented timeline. Boutique style.
Very nice! I always enjoy coming to public. Clean and helpful.
This is a gem. It was very informative and its also located in the old greyhound bus station and has some of the original flooring and doors from when it was segregated.
The passion and heart in this place by Dorothy who gives the most informative and interesting tours is palpable. She has made our trip to Montgomery unforgettable and I highly recommend stopping by. This place is only here because she cares to preserve the history.
The museum is small but loaded with history, and the video interviews with the Freedom Riders alone make this a worthy stop on the Civil Rights Trail. Unfortunately, some major parts of the bus depot are missing because the city didnt recognize the importance of the building.
Amazing museum layout and exhibits. Living history presentation by a Freedom Rider. If you ever get to Montgomery Alabama its a must see.
Great piece of history. Actually bus stop where the Freedom Riders arrived. Great staff also.
A small but mighty museum! An incredibly important piece of our history is preserved in this museum. If you have the opportunity to hear Dr. Montgomery speak, do not miss her, you will be enthralled. Ms. Dorothy is informative, gracious, and engaging!
Great museum. Small but impactful. Great tour guide.
True history a must visit.you can see so much and learn a lot
Small museum, very knowledgeable staff. I learned so much I never knew about the freedom rides.
Extremely interesting, very well presented, pretty much a must-visit for anyone interested in this subject matter. And that should be everyone!
The Freedom Rides Museum is beyond worth a visit when in Montgomery. Centrally-located, the museum is in the old Greyhound bus station building and is very small, but packs a powerful punch. The layout is easy to follow and theres a lot to take in and see. The woman working took time to speak to me about their mission and what they do there and she was beyond kind and knowledgeable. The museum is wonderful for kids and adults and really is a necessary stop when youre in town.
We came to Montgomery for the Legacy Museum and the Peace and Justice Memorial but were so glad we included a visit to the Freedom Rides Museum in the original Greyhound Bus Station. The Director, Dorothy, is passionate, informed and brings the visitor into the experience - she provides a guided journey through this important story. Dont miss this!
This was a good museum. The service was good and the pricing was good. This was not the best museum that I have been to but it is not the worst museum. I would recommend this museum to anyone and overall IO had a good experience here.
Great exhibits. Small but informative.
If you’re in the area or have out of town guests this is a must. Yes it’s small but such an experience. You can see everything pretty quickly so it’s not an all day thing. It’s So informative and really fascinating. I recommend everyone going at least once.
Small but lots of info. We lucked up and happened to be there when a busload of Upward Bound students arrived and we able to tag along on their guided and very detailed tour.
The woman working was very nice and helpful.
A must see... give yourself at least 2 days to see all the museums and churches of historical importance
PHENOMENAL museum! Phenomenal! To spend time in an actual Greyhound terminal that was segregated and that was one of the major spots of the freedom riders. I would highly, highly encourage everyone to attend this museum. It is well worth it.
Great use of an historic space. Very informative exhibits and knowledgeable staff. The tour was well done and the docent was well versed in the history of the time and the parallels with the present. It was an eye opening experience.
Great presentation given today by the youngest Freedom Rider Hezekiah Watkins.
This is a very small museum that does the best with the resources available; those just arent many, which is the only reason Im not giving it five stars. On the bright side, it is slated to expand in the not too distant future.Given the limited resources, its amazingly informative. I knew very little about the Freedom Rides and how they fit in the wider context of the Civil Rights era, so I learned a lot. If youre visiting Montgomery to learn more about Civil Rights history, you shouldnt miss this.
This museum is amazing! Dorothy gave us a great tour! She is a wealth of knowledge. You could walk through and read everything in 30 minutes but we stayed for longer as Dorothy had so many stories to share with us. Amazing to be able to stand in the place where such a historic moment happened
Did not pay for the tour but the wall outside has SO MUCH INFO!!! LOVED IT!
My daughter and I went just at closing time and our gracious host who runs the museum could not have been friendlier. We were overwhelmed in a good way to be at this historic place. It is a small museum that packs in a big impact with the story of the freedom rides and the young people who changed our history by the courage they demonstrated right there. Also some amazing paintings by the artist Faith Ringgold. Do not miss it!
Tour guide was so passionate about telling the history of the freedom riders and those who help create change in America as far as black rights.
This is definitely a must if you are in Montgomery. The original Greyhound station still stands and tells an important story of our past.
The actual historical site of the attack on the Freedom Riders. A wonderful depot of history and culture
Born & raised in the south & never have I learned even half the information about the Freedom Riders that I did here. On the smaller side, but very nice facility. Definitely a good stop. A typical tour takes about an hour. Take the tour with the wonderful, informed, enthusiastic women working here and you wouldnt be disappointed
Was in Montgomery this past weekend visiting the Memorial For Peace And JUSTICE and was very disappointed that the WHOLE town is shut down by 3pm. There was absolutely nothing to do. Would have Loved to see this museum as the outside exhibit is very interesting and informative. Montgomery was a ghost town!!!!
Wow!!! Woman at front desk was so friendly. We went very knowledgeable and offered to give us a 20 minute tour around the museum. Small space but impactful information. Lesser known events that deserve more coverage from Civil Rights movement. Overall great visit, highly recommend stopping by here.
A wonderful experience. My children and myself enjoyed all of the information that was given. We all learned a lot. Thanks!
Awesome experiance!!!! Great knowledgable staff!!!!!!
Nice museum....short, sweet and to the point.
Very awesome its the acutual bus station with the original both the color and white entrance as well as the original bathrooms.. nice new place great for a good quick easy history lesson
Montgomerys hidden secret! Lots of history regarding the Freedom Riders.
Very educating for the kids
Stood reading with goose bumps. Incredible to read it while standing in the very spot. So glad we happened upon this little museum each information board is written out in a timeline form, so you can read the timeline of events as you go down the line, see pictures of events and people, and stand where it happened. I wish they had a map to the church talked about on one of the boards, I wasnt able to find it.
Amazing amount of knowledge and great story telling by the guide
Historic. Great staff
Small musuem, but very informative. The host was knowledgeable and friendly.
The director who gives the tours passion, wealth of knowledge, and ability to convey the story of the Freedom Riders made this visit a must! She reinforced the importance of what they did and how that shaped our country and the Civil Rights movement.
Great exhibits and first person accounts of their experience. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Long lines and totally worth it. Guided tour adds value to learn more about the local history.
Meaningful experience. Worthwhile.
The Freedom Rides Museum was a fantastic and insightful stop on our tour of Montgomery.
One of my top favorite spots in Montgomery!!!! Tour guide was very informative and learned a lot about the freedom rides! Awesome experience and well worth the $5.00
Remembering the attacks upon the Freedom Riders of 1961 at this very same location.
Very knowledgeable presenter. Institution was filled his historical information, pictures and data.
Awesome experience! The tour was very educational and in some ways shocking to know about! I think everyone should experience this bit of history!
Small but houses an incredible amount of our nations civil rights history. A must see!
This place is amazing!
Small museum but great information.
A must see in the city of Montgomery, Alabama. We were eagerly greated by one of the museums guides. She(Trina Binkley) gave a heartfelt welcome and generously began telling us about the historical structure of the building(putting us in the moment of the historic greyhound bus station). She delivered a smooth flow of information from one exhibit to the next. This clearly made us feel well informed by her. The exhibits were amazing!! A bonus was her great interpersonal skills...simply delightful in conversation. We left the building with an enhanced knowledge base of the Freedom Riders, as well as, the city of Montgomery, Alabama. I will return with the rest of my family!!
If you love history... Stop in!
The exhibit is wonderful and the staff was very informative. This is a must see if youre in the area!
So informative. A must see!
Unique place to visit.
A great and knowledgeable experience!
Speechless!
Need a little more stuff to look at.
Very insightful and educational
Informative and eye opening
A little smaller than I was expecting, but nevertheless still a place to visit once in your lifetime.
