The Great Valley Museum is a family-friendly museum in Modesto. Several exhibits feature various artefacts and even some live animals.Permanent exhibits include The Native Californian, which showcases artefacts from various indigenous cultures of the region, and Science on a Sphere, which features a floating sphere that projects real-time weather.A planetarium is located right next to the museum, and many events take place throughout the year. Group tours are available.
Great experience for the family. Lot of learning about our habitats and the animal species that live there in. They have great sceneries presented with great detail from the rodents all the way up to the big animals. Different species of bird types with all taxidermied animals. Great price for a good experience. Highly recommend for a small family outing about 45 minutes spent walking around looking at different things. With the telescope Up on the Roof we were able to observe the moon very close up.
Great little museum with excellent presentation of area wildlife. Diorama displays show both backyard birds and wilderness animals we almost never see. Wonderful place to take your kids to show them how important it is to protect our environment. Everyone can benefit for an hour looking at these displays. Very highly recommended.
My 5 yr old nephew enjoyed it so much. Everyone on staff was super friendly and assisted him with all of his questions. Will highly recommend.
Really cool exhibits, cool artifacts and there are buttons that give you an experience of what the animals sound like and an idea of their real habitats
Great little muesum, has a kids area, live reptiles and spiders, an interactive table of elements, a globe projector, and dozens of animal displays- the mountain lion is my favorite, but has everything from pike to Kodiak bears. But the real star of the show is the planetarium and its state-of-the-art projectors. They put on a good laser show there as well. This is a no-brainer if you have young kids.
Open OPen OPen Open please!!!!!
Great displays. It cost $4 to get in but its a bargain!
A blocked off place for lil ones, staff is awesome, the head curator is as cool as a cucumber.
Great option to fill out a day in town. The time youll spend here is 1-2 hours, depending on how many of the plaques you want to read. A little small, but a nice, quiet say to enjoy a Saturday morning!
This is a smallish museum housed in the Junior College campus. It was a bit hard to find; I had to ask a few of the students where the museum was, and some of them didn’t know that there is a museum on campus. Most of the exhibit space is taken up by a large taxidermy collection, including habitats, and audio examples of bird calls, etc.. they have other exhibits such as a periodic table featuring samples of the elements, and a room with hands-on exhibits for school-age children, and live spiders and (non-venomous) snakes.Staff was very helpful and friendly.
Fabulous fun for all but this adventure was made special by the activities the museum put in place for our toddlers. A day to remember.
Very nice, local gem. Go check it out with your kids!
This is a little cute place great for kids. They have a back room full of educational books, toys, and games. All STEM ( science, technology, engineering, math) activity. I also heard that each 1st Friday of the month they open after hours and u can go up to the roof top and check out their telescope and look out to the stars.
It was fun and the kids enjoyed having something like this close by - they especially loved the planetarium.
Wonderfully display and friendly and helpful people.
