As A kid about 25 yrs ago this was a magestic park. There were statues of carousel horses and so much to do for kids. Some of the original playground climbing structures are there, but since 2009 the homeless have taken over the area. Looks as if there is an area for a dog park I wish they would announce that to public so dog owners can use to park and claim it back for the community.

At one time this was a beautiful park, since the flooding and the homeless people living there its a dead zone. The grass is no longer green and the trees are few and far between. When I was a kid this was the go to park for birthdays as it used to have an animal carousel in the middle section that separated the 2 parks Beard Brook and Childrens Park. Now there isnt anything left of that. I dont hate the Park per say, I hate what happened to it.

It was good to see and hear that the City of Modesto was contributing to the Homeless of the community. Many of the citizens of Modesto have little or no idea of what these individuals and families face on a daily basis. I wish that more people would take an interest in trying to find homes and better living conditions for these people.

I had very high Hopes the park will be a success after the major renovation with volunteers contributing their time and effort beautifying the place... then the city made it into a homeless encampment... terrible.

Me

The hope I once had for this project is now shattered..when will people learn to be more than about themselves ? Nevermind answering because I am busy worrying if I can get something for nothing and still find a way to fail publicly without much effort and then blame someone else for the mess that kind of fail of this scale tends manifest !?.. The small amount of positive from the project surprisingly comes from the outside community. Open minds and big hearts..I truly wonder when and if this can be redone somehow .. Good try people.

Over a 100 tents and that i have seen go up within a months time. Im sure it will expand, as there r so much more homeless i am assuming heading that way. My business there was to utilize the outreach programs the county was setting up booths for such information.

Homeless camp. Some of My first memories are from there 51 years ago when I was 3. I would stop there with my mom on the way to grandmas and grandpas house. I would call it grandpas park. Never knew the actual name until I revisited Modesto and some of the important memories spots of my early childhood about a year ago. Kind of devastating the reality as compared to amazing little kid memories.

Place where the homeless are legally able to reside. I think its a great idea, to bad the State Capitol doesnt have an area for the homeless, misplaced, etc. But they are great volunteers there, food, port a potties that get dumped every other day, rides for appt, clothes. If your homeless and have self respect, friendly you know how you act... Than go.

Its was a very nice village until some people started a selfish rage in what just gave everyone the status of how people think about homeless folks, when really that is all wrong. Not all of us are like most of them. Other then that camp mom is a very great voice for the village and how those who went speak up she does. Thank you Melanie Slagel.

Looking like a park again. It will always be a stop for the domestically challenged, and the cruisers will always cruise. A nice quaint creek sided park with a heavy amount of traffic for the street size that will always be around.

Good hearted people end up with nothing because they often dont stand up to the wrong doings of other malicious human beings. Thus nice guys finish last.Regardless the tree line here is amazing and so are the recipients. I would totally bring my family and have a picnic with them (a huge tea party whenever) you have to bring the tea though.

I like Melanie and saw some freinds from the old neighborhood.! Left for 2 or 3 days, returned to camp and it has only taken 2 to 6 hours to get most of my stuff back. The mornings are pretty pquiet and happy and last night we had barbecued chickens. Be home by the way from home, almost reminds you of the weekend before woodstock!

This is sad so we tax payers are paying for all this and these people get to get there social security and keep getting EBT and we feed them and give them everything they need and they just sit around and do nothing but wait to get feed by us and make a mess and we clean it and they still will not work or even try we will just keep taking care of them on our dime and still give them there social security checks and EBT and they can just get more drugs right less drug test them and when they all fail that they have to leave and we will save money because that place will be empty with no one there lol this is nuts the government pays them and we pay for them what is this world coming to why work when you dont have to and get everything handed to you this needs to stop people need to grow up and get a life and do something productive

I did not visit here I live here with my dog and a community of the homeless in tents it is a blessing to me for the community to allow us to be here and help us out as much as they do...one main problem we do have here is the city council needs to fix the water so the shower shuttle can help out with showers it does break my heart to see the children women and men in need of this as well as washing cloths instead of just throwing them out when people come to donate more the restrooms here could be open instead of the porta potties that is tax dollars money when the homeless could be the ones to keep the restrooms clean provide our own toilet paper give us some responsibilities out here to prove we are greatful for it could always be worse
