This place used to be a great hole in wall place. It was a bit spendy, but had amazing food you couldnt find anywhere else. Now it has new ownership, less than half the choices and not so good of flavors. It still has the poor staff experience its always had and now food to match.
This is wonderful authentic Mexican restaurant with a wide range of food from simple tacos, tamales, burritos and fajitas to more exquisite Mexican fare. The drinks are proper and well-priced. The atmosphere is welcoming for everyone- whether youre drinking &/or dining solo, on a friendly or romantic outing, or with family or a large group youll be treated like family. Excellent service and staff. The lighting is perfect too- always a plus in my book. I can pretty much guarantee you wont be disappointed.
Concert venue for many bands, it’s ontop on the second floor. Underneath is the restaurant named the same. Came in from out of town to see a friend play here. Focusing on Spanish and Mexican music but very well managed.
Gone downhill. Went in with my mother at 5pm for dinner. Only waitress was on her phone the majority of the evening. Drink options were not available due to no bartender, salsa options were not available, very poor customer service. Had good experiences here in the past, but will not be returning.
I’m a low maintenance customer and I don’t go to places and expect excellent service, but I also don’t go back to places who give off the vibe that they’d rather not serve me/ my family/ outside races. Sucks, because the food was pretty good, but I can’t support unfriendly business practices. Too many places on Lake Street have this “stay out if you’re not one of us” vibe! Why wouldn’t you want more business/ better tips? The problem is not the customers, it’s the attitude you have towards them for no reason. I still gave 20%, but I’m usually a 40-50% tipper.
I normally don’t post reviews but this was possibly the worst dining experience I’ve had. When my friend and I arrived, we were completely ignored by the waitress despite there only being a few customers. We seated ourselves and she came by 20 minutes later to take orders. Only 3 of the cocktails on the menu were available so we ordered the only ones we could. The margaritas came back incredibly salty— tasted like mixer and salt. The food came and was okay. The waitress never came back despite us being one of only 3 groups there. I couldn’t believe the poor service and quality especially with how expensive everything was. Avoid if you can.
Nice place but the owner is no good. Has to learn how to be humble and not treat patrons like garbage. Had security remove folks in front of her because she couldnt see the artist play. Customers are first and then owner.. sad. Wish her luck
This place has great cooks, but their service is sometimes mediocre, sometimes just terrible. I have met a couple of good waitresses and a couple of extremely unfriendly, hostile ones, who were walking around for 10 minutes before bringing me a menu (forget about them saying hi). Last time I was here, I ordered a sandwich with fries to go: as usual, the sandwich was great, but it was accompanied by three fries! No kidding: literally three fries. No coming back anytime soon.
Im sad at how bad this place has gotten. Service was extremely understaffed. None of the beer taps were functional. They only had 3 tequilas on hand. Food quality was low, and the rice and beans were room temperature. We got the molcajete and there was a high ratio of gristle to meat.
Happy hour every day 3 to 6 for the week $5 appetizers all worth it my son and I go every week the margarita is very weak Im not even sure if they put alcohol in it. A few months back had a terrible waitress our experience there has changed and we keep coming back this is a place I would definitely recommend you have many options for the tacos as far as meat goes their jalapeno poppers were great and crispy there Chipotle wings spicy AF! Delicious the problem is they run out often and are not always available to order. A good friend of mine Christina who used to be a promoter here brought me here for my birthday couple years back it was a great experience of food was delicious and authentic so aside from the happy hour I have had dinner their drinks that night were a lot better then the margarita that they serve for happy hour which on are at the end of the day seems like a rip-off being that Im pretty sure theres no alcohol I rarely drink and this place their margarita I can only say is weak. Save yourself the $10.
Man this place is great. I just went here last night for the first time and not only was the food and drinks good but the people who work their are super friendly. After me and my company got done eating we went upstairs where we heard a bunch of music playing and I was shocked to realize they have a full nightclub. Nothing but good vibes. Will definitely come back here in the future.
Cant wait stop eating from here
Its a cool lil spot I lost my ID there and was wondering did anybody find it?
We love this place. Easy to pop into and grab food in the restaurant anytime. Best tacos and salsa in town.
Great food and service! Real Mexican cuisine not fake American/Mexican food... I recommend this place if you like Mexican food! The inside is amazingly decorated. So much thought must have been put in to the food and decoration.
What we have is a venue with no care for whom they book. Having an all ages show for 6ix9ine whom is still in hot water for using a 13 year old girl in a sexual video.... is just immoral. The best part was the response I received from them . Really paints a picture of the establishment.I have attached the reply given to the photo section on here
My girlfriend and I were in the neighborhood and noticed a street festival going on. We were hungry, and there seemed to be food trucks. Walking into the festival, we were suddenly confronted with the fact that it was Cinco de Mayo. Accidentally surrounded by happy people, elotes, and a boisterous mariachi band, we were caught up in the moment and decided to try El Nuevo Rodeo for lunch, since they were open and bustling and screw it, its Cinco de Mayo.I have since realized that this was a mistake. I am not going to complain about the things that should have been obvious. The service was slow. It was busy. The food was served on paper plates with plastic utensils. All of these things fit into my expectations of Mexican restaurant in the middle of a street festival on Cinco de Mayo. Its busy, and theres only so much you can do about it, and you dont want drunk people breaking all of your plates.I am going to complain about the absolute mush that was handed to us, cold and oily (greasy is a positive adjective in many instances and I am antagonistic towards its application right now). My girlfriends Barbacoa was a slab of mediocre grey meat that had the visual appeal of wet diarrhea and it came out looking the same way and with the same textural consistency. My food was arguably palatable, but the aftertaste left me feeling like I had just been forced to do shots of fryer grease. To top this experience off, the meal - with two Modelos, though I wish I had more before hand to mute the experience - cost us nearly fifty dollars. *Fifty dollars*. For two plates of hastily thrown together cold slop that a dog might even turn its nose up at. When I attempted to ask our waiter (who I had to find and ask to give us our check, as he came around our table exactly never after we ordered) to give us some sort of a discount since our food was cold, he told us that when he brought it out it was hot (this was untrue) and offered to take a single beer (this brought the check from 55 to 49 dollars.)And the best part - as an attempt to show me how good the food was, the waiter asked a table directly behind me as he ran my card how their food was. They looked at him with narrow eyes and blankly stated, Cold. What did you say? He asked. Its COLD. They repeated, louder.I looked at them, and at him. He shook his head and handed me my receipt.I wish all future patrons of this restaurant the best of luck.-Sent from my iPhone (on the toilet for the third time today.)
Pretty decent Mexican sit-down restaurant. The tableside guac is amazing and well worth it! They have a large menu, so it makes choosing difficult. The margaritas are really great and they have good happy hour deals, if I remember correctly.
Hidden gem, best Pollo Tinga in town
I went with my wife and my friend and his wife last Saturday 12/08/18 and I was invited by the playing bands to go on stage to help them with the Monitor Mixer Board because I’m a retired sound engineer with 33 years working with the most famous salsa and merengue bands known in Puerto Rico. Everything was okay until my wife suddenly started feeling bad and started vomiting and for about 20 minutes no one from the staff came to help us or to even ask if they could help. Later they sent their security person with a wheelchair with instructions from the manager to throw us out of there and they didn’t want to let the paramedics inside their restaurant. Conclusion: If This the way they treats their customers then they are worth nothing in the hospitality department. If anyone tells me again that this place is the best for live Latin Music in Minneapolis then sorry I have been in much better places than this place with much more better quality of human beings.
I went there with a friend and we were literally the only ones in there. The food still took forever. The waiter wasnt the least bit amiable and it was quite obvious that he was treating us coldly because we are white. I know this because I know Spanish and while we were eating I could hear him and the cook in the kitchen speaking poorly about us, even though we were polite to him. The discomfort was to the point where I started to wonder if they had tampered with my food. If I could rate them with negative stars, I would.
Like not love... open till 4 am on weekend... wish the food could be a little more authentic and not fake or trying to be to fancy keep it basic and faster service
I cannot recommend the night club upstairs. Dangerously over crowded with no air condition. I counted about 15 fights and 5 who passed out.
One of the worst establishments I have been to ever. Was one of two tables there for an early dinner, and it took an hour to get our food. I had ordered one drink, and would have had more, but the waitstaff couldnt be bothered to ask if I wanted another. The empty glass sat so long, all the ice had melted. I ordered water the next time the waitress came by, finally, because I didnt want to give them any more money. I was ready to just pay the bill for what we had and leave, but my wife wouldnt do that. It was another 20 minutes before the food came, and it tasted like it was a microwave dinner, and was cold. This place sucks, will never go back. I will also warn everyone I talk to in our neighborhood.
This restaurant is in my neighborhood, and we have eaten here on a handful of occasions. If you go during the day or early evening, the place will be nearly empty. That wont matter, the service is always pretty bad. They are never rude, but they are never attentive. They have salsa dancing and karaoke at night, and that seems to be the real draw of this place. However, I do think that the food is tasty. I typically order the House Citrus Salad with Jicama and Shrimp, which I would highly recommend.
I was there last night to see Chiquis Rivera and I’ve never been so disappointed with that place before. I literally spent my whole paycheck on vip only to find out I couldn’t take pictures with her. I wasn’t the only one who got upset over this. Even though I was told that it was the artist itself who was charging and not the club owner I feel they could’ve said something before instead of letting people spend their money just like that. I recommend doing a little research on the artist who’s coming before getting any type of tickets. Smdh for this reason I had to give them one star.
Not a huge fan. Burrito was not very tasty and had peas in it, which was a little odd. The margarita was ok, but way too sugary. Id stick with the appetizers here as the guacamole and chips were excellent.
Great spot for food and dancing!
My Burrito was great i enjoyed it and my Corona was cold but it cost me $16.76 wow!
We came here from a Living Social deal I had purchased that included, one appetizer, two salads, two entrees and one dessert. We started off with the guacamole that is mushed right at your table. It was excellent! Then I had the cactus salad which was rather interesting and good considering I have never had cactus before. My daughter had a lettuce, hicama, shrimp salad but it came without the shrimp. She questioned the waitress on where the shrimp was and she said Oh, with the Living Social coupon, you dont get the shrimp on the salad. Really??? We didnt make a fuss but thought that was very tacky and she should have told her that when she ordered it. Then onto our main dishes...my daughter and I split the steak/chicken fajitas which were pretty standard fare but good, my husband had a quesadilla and he said it too was good. Last but not least, we split the crepe for dessert and it was good. People to the right of us were eating the sea food boil and that looked fabulous. I would go back to try that. All in all, it was very good.
Service was horrible. There was 2 wait staff on, one being the manager, and we were almost never attended. We had to prompt them when we wanted something and it appeared that we were interrupting them. The took my order incorrectly and did nothing to correct it. The brought me my shrimp salad with no shrimp. They charged me the wrong amount and would not correct it. I had to pay almost $5 more than I should have, but she said thats just how the machine rings it up. During our meal the bus boy cleared the table next to ours and just brushed some crumbs off the table and set the plates, the table was never wiped down. At the end we waited for a long time for our dessert that I had already paid for but never came. We finally left without it, another $3.50 I over paid on top of the first mistake. The food was bland and the portions are smaller than expected. My experience was horrible and I will never go there again.
Slow staff if you ever get service on a Friday or Saturday. Ive been here twice and got the same slow service. Many people walked out. Im not sure they even want customers here.
Quiet. Good food. Not a long wait. Will go again.
The foods were excellent. But, it was TOO SLOW. It is a good place if you are not in a hurry.
Everything is made fresh in house and tastes great. They have the best chips and salsa in the TCs. I hear it gets pretty crazy late.
I have been to this restaurant many times. The food & service were both great! It is my go to place when I am craving Mexican food.
Really bad service, I waited more than 10 minutes to make my order (there were two people eating) then I received my food. That had a big, big hair in the middle of the “torta” I asked them to change it and i had to wait 20 minutes more, (there wasn’t people eating anymore) the sever was really, really rude. Oh and also $50 for 3 tortas!.
I’ve been here a few times in the past and had great experiences, but I won’t be back after tonight. My friend ordered the chipotle pineapple margarita and I ordered the Paloma (tequila with grapefruit Jarritos and a salted rim) which I have ordered here several times before. I got a pint glass with margarita mix and a tiny bit of tequila. When I tried to confirm my order with our waiter, he insisted it was a Paloma, even though there was zero carbonation and it didn’t taste of grapefruit at all (or have a salted rim, or come in the highball glass I’ve gotten there several times) . After several moments of back and forth, I ordered a glass of wine because he kept asking me if I wanted something else when I really just wanted the drink I ordered. My friend’s margarita was fruit juice with little to no tequila and a chipotle salt rim (I’ve ordered this drink there before as well and loved it). We weren’t checked on after we received our food, or given the waters we asked for until the third ask at the end of the meal. We’ll stick to Homi and make our own drinks at home from now on.
The after hours employees have poor customer service. I used the atm and it didnt dispense my money and the thing is they wouldnt take my card at the bar. I told them it charged me and asked for compensation but they inconsideratly told me to go to US Bank. I gave them 2 stars because this review is only for my experience at twerk fest Tuesday. Thankfully I got my money back but I will not be spending my own money at twerk fest ever again.
I was here for the 5 de mayo celebration. Good food and music. Had fun with my family.
Delicious food. Super flavorful meats. I got tinga, barbacoa and carne asada tacos. Gobbled them up
Great food and club ar night no id needed
0 stars. Worst asada ever! Dripping with grease and so chewy I couldnt break it down. Portions were ridiculously small. 4 bites of rice and beans for a $15 plate!!! Unbelievable!!! Waitress was inpatient & wouldnt give us time to look at the check. hubby & i wont ever return.
The alfa concert was lit
Food great. Service fine. Nice decor. Cheeky feel. Would go again.
Best Mexican food in the twin cities ...must try everything on menu
Love come to dance here
Good drinks late night grub
Absolutely one of the worst dining experiences I have had in Minnesota! Slow service, uninspiring food, management that says they will make it right and never have done so. Avoid this place like the plague!
Huge venue. Great for renting a room for parties and events or just coming in to eat.
Food was possibly the lowest quality Mexican food I have ever had. Tasted and looked like everything came out of a can. Bland and near tasteless. Service was slow, rude, and he obviously wasnt listening when we ordered because it all came out WAY wrong. The server then copped an attitude about it. Water was never refilled. We will not be going there again.
Great service, fun atmosphere, the fried plantains were perfectly prepared. Authentico!
Bad service when we got there it wasnt busy it was empty and it took them about five minutes to ask us what we would like to drink because the server was too busy chatting with other workers so we had to just get up and leave.. way better restaurants around than this one
Good food and lots of seating available. I had the seafood soup and my friend had the tacos. Both were good however the crab legs in my soup were pretty dried out like they had been in the freezer too long. The servers were friendly, however extremely slow.
Service was okay but cashier was not polite. Most importantly, food was not nearly as tasty as it looks on photo. In fact, it was the worst Mexican food I have ever had.
Pesimo service, la comida no esta buena, y para variar se ponen sus propinas [email protected] service, food wasnt good and they put them their own tip, like if they deserve it.
The service was terrible. The food was warm at best. Dont go here if you want to get in and out quickly. No one was there and it still took over an hour for lunch. The food was very average. Very disappointed.
We were drawn here by a Groupon for a authentic mexican meal. Unfortunately it turned sour by starting in the restroom....they must be competing in the top 10 filthiest in the metro area competition? If they leave their restrooms to this, what does the kitchen look like? The service was slow even though the restaurant was nearly empty at 12:30 on a Friday. The food was OK, nothing to run out into the streets and shout about. We will not be coming here again.
Overall bad service and mediocre food. Went for my boyfriends birthday and we were very disappointed by the quality/service. Do not recommend. Many great Mexican restaurants along lake street other than El Nuevo rodeo..
Place looks nice but the service is slow. The food isnt the best Ive had either.
Worst Mexican food I have ever had, and we paid over 50 for our meal. I will not go back, and will continue to tell everyone I know about how large of a rip off this place is. Way Way better Mexican restaurants within minutes.
Always alot of fun!
I have not had food this good since I left So Cal! I love this place. Esta mui bueno!
Exelent
We love the fresh flavors of this place. The service is friendly, if a bit slow and erratic. The tableside guacamole is the best in town. They pay attention to details, and the lowly sides of rice and beans are homemade and flavorful. The tacos, tostadas, nachos, jicama salad, Cactus salad, tortas and fajitas are all favorites.
Food was amazing! Service was wonderful!
The parking isnt the easiest to find in the area in general, but the place has a long history and conjoined to a decent taco shop. Very popular venue so be prepared for crushing crowds.
Loved the food and our waitress was lovely!
It took forever to get our drinks out and the nine dollar guacamole and chips, which was the best tasting thing on the menu, came out with the meal. The carne asada and the tampiquena was hardly edible as the steak was a cheap piece of fat. You can get better meat from taco bell. The tortillas were warmed in the microwave. Those were also gross. Very disappointing for an expensive authentic meal.
Went in with a groupon and was treated really poorly. The manager basically came out and scowled @ us and then limited what we were allowed to order. I think there was only one other table there. Our service was incredibly slow and they made us feel like we were a problem. Maybe they dont like interracial couples.....Idk? Here is a tip from someone with 10+ years experience in the industry: Dont put out a groupon if you intend to totally botch your name. Being from the neighborhood, my fiance and I have found a few choice places and would usually stick to them. Groupon is intended to offer the customer a good deal while checking out a new establishment they may not have normally walked into. If they like it, they will spread the word, bring friends, family ext. If your service continues the way it is, I dont know how you are going to stay in business. No wonder there was nobody there!
Great food
A good place for pisteadera and to bailar
Nice plece to dance and aet
Online menu says seafood combination dish has lobsterarrived and has notfish bland squid rough mussel sandy and fish fillet tastes saltyservice s ok but i didn pay to be served that junkbtwthey r suppose to open till 10but when we arrived at 9 it s LOCKED!!!never going back
Among the best authentic Mexican food in Minneapolis!
We bought a Groupon to try this place. Reviews looked good. Huge mistake. The stench of urine when we walked in should have been our 1st clue. Here is the rundown: Sunday at 3pm, only two other tables in the place occupied. We ordered a Cadillac Margarita and a Rodeo Margarita, waited forever, then watched our Waitress who couldnt have been 15 years old, grab a menu to see what was in each drink and proceed to attempt to make them. . After another 5-7 minutes, we got the drinks, they were HORRIBLE. No tequila detected at all. No one to complain to, no chips and salsa until we were almost done with the drinks and had put in our food order.Food was just ok, sauces were fresh but portions were small, Chili Reilleno was about 2 inches long and not freshly fried, enchiladas were mediocre. Tostada had a weird cardboard taste. Again, no one to complain to. We got the wrong sauces on our plates, not what we ordered, the Waitress said the cook put the wrong sauce on them by mistake, no offer of making it right. Not sure if the C Team, maybe even D Team was working on Sunday or if its always like this, terrible. We will not be back, EVER.
Wonderful food service and ambiance!!
Im cool with a little messy but this place is nothing but bad all around, from the bad costumer service to not clean restrooms
Nice to go dance and meet people
The food isnt the greatest quality very simple I ordered some chilaquiles severed with dry chicken and green salsa with just a little bit of cream plus this dish is usually serves with queso fresco witch they didnt put on plus I paid $2 for a small horchata that they couldnt be served in a bigger cup I am just very disappointed in this place.
Good entertainment place
Timely servers, great food, will go back again!
4:00 on Sunday was perfect. With a free parking bonus. Only a couple of other people were there so service was great and the only noise was from people raving about their food. Seriously. We contributed spectacular! and amazing! We had a Groupon for an app and 2 entrees. We ordered the nachos for an app and the waitress automatically asked which meat we wanted since the app could be up to $10 and the nachos were only $8 if you dont add a $2 meat. They were quite good and El Nuevo was fabulous about all of the things we needed on the side due to a picky eater and an allergy. About the allergy. My husband always orders steak fajitas WITHOUT onions. Some places cook it with onions and then when he has to send it back, they just remove the onions, add some Sizzle and send them back out. He will then proceed to vomit in their parking lot. If they are lucky. We mentioned the onion allergy and were truly shocked when his fajitas arrived, not simply without onions but with lots of extra peppers, avocado slices instead of guacamole, and diced tomatoes instead of pico di gallo. Truly, places never do this. He is lucky if they bother to warn him about some of things he has ordered. His steak was well trimmed and tasty. I dont normally get seafood at Mexican restaurants, but and glad I ordered the shrimp fajitas. There were plenty of butterflied and deliciously garlicky shrimp. And from what I heard one table over, the enchiladas were great. A few tables over, a couple order the giant seafood extravaganza. We actually went over to get a closer look and joined the couple in taking photos. They were in awe. (of the food, not our audacity--they were actually amused by us and the woman described the miraculous bounty of the sea to my daughter)Highest praise: we would go back--even without a Groupon! In reference to the person who felt discriminated against...for what its worth, all of the other happy customers during our visit were as pasty as we were.
Best Seafood soup in town.
We had a great lunch.
The Waitres gave us a horrible service and the food wasnt even good
Smelled slightly funky, bathrooms were okay. Didnt have change to give back.
Food ok
Good food, :) the mens bathroom was bad (dirty) if they had the bathroom clean I would give them a 5 star
Really bad!!!
Alot of brown meat
Lovely event
