Went for a drag show last night, drove over a half hour from our hotel only to get there and nothing was going on as all events are cancelled because of covid!! Probably a good idea to let people know the events are cancelled so they dont travel there and find that its closed!!
Loved it!! There is something for everyone!!Stayed at the AC Marriott across the street, great hotel! The Gay 90s peaked our curiosity so we had to check it out. So glad we ventured over!! Fun, Fun, Fun!! Its advertised as a gay bar but I think there were a total mix of all types of people, dont be shy. Check it out there are 5 or 6 differant areas and they are all cool!! If we are ever in the area again we will be back!!
This is the only good club in Minneapolis. The music is always good and they have multiple hidden bars throughout the two levels. Cheap drinks and always a good time!
Best place for me ever in MinneapolisEvery weekend I’m thereGreat service and amazing drinks and cocktails
I love going here but last night I got kicked out in a really rude way. My friend has a boot on his leg. we were walking down the stairs and I carried his drink to help him. I gave it back and a Security guy came up asking if I had a bracelet. I didn’t and I showed him. He went off on us. I was trying to explain to him that my friend was in a boot and I was trying to show him my bracelet that said I have diabetes. I can’t drink Alcohol! He just made us leave. He didn’t even see me “drink” it. It was going to be a nice night but totally got ruined. We were there for 15 min max.
I am so disappointed in the staff at this bar, the Asian bartender guy ignored me every time I tried to get a drink. People would walk up to the bar and he would server the person next to me and just ignored me, which was done a couple of times. Also, the girl at the coat check was super rude to my bf when we claimed our jackets, he was being polite and asked her how she was doing and she just started out with a rude comment. This was my second time here and probably my last time.We should not be treating each other like this, we should be trying to become and stay united instead of being rude to each other because of whatever differences we have. I hope the atmosphere here change so people can actually co.e out and get a good experience here.
The worst staff ever. My experience has been terrible as I am local individual that used go to this place often.
Had a Great time last night. Never knew I had it in me, but this place brought out a lot in me! Great place, great time, good thing the wife was out of town!
I used to work here in the early 2000s. I started going to the bar in the late 80s Adam worked the door. This is the best place.
Got corona after coming here. be safe
Not what it used to be.The place has so much potential! There are several segmented bars within the venue that were once quite fun. Over the years they’ve tried minor renovations but nothing that was an actual investment.I had a knife pulled on me here one night, so that is a sign that it isn’t the safest place. I was sober and this individual fell onto me & my friends, then pulled out a knife.Thankfully the security tackled him and 86’d him after I notified them of what happened.Unfortunately much like the other venues on the block owned by the same people it went from being fun/sleazy to an embarrassment. Most of the drag performers left and went to Lush (Northeast MPLS) because they weren’t happy with the management. Those performers had been doing shows for idk, 15+ years?A sad, dark, dumpy bar that used to be so much fun.
Gay 90s is great and I often go on the off days and evenings because they have a great atmosphere and great karaoke.
My favorite bar in Minneapolis, 2 story nightclub that meets everyones style. From arcade room, drag shows, dancers, and a mix of all kinds of music everyone will find a room to their liking. On busy nights the security will let you in on the left of outside patio if your 21+ and paying cash, everyone else through main door. Its an 18+ club so expect a younger crowd. Also serve food in room where you coat check, you could buy a fishbowl of liquor at the same counter if you want an adult slushie. Check their website for events and ask the bartender for the drink special, unless you like paying $12 drinks
Be warned, the drinks are small and WEAK.
Great bar hut the neighborhood is really really bad. I got mugged right around the corner.
Eggs n Drag brunch is my favorite. Staff is amazing, show is superb. Reasonably priced.
They don’t answer their phones.
Love this place. The people are so friendly, welcoming, happy and have a great time. Gay or straight youll have the best time.
The bouncer was a female who wouldn’t let my girlfriend in but let me and one of our other friends in. When we asked what her reasoning was, she said she had one but wasn’t going to tell us. Said there wasn’t anything wrong with her ID just said she couldn’t come in because she didn’t want her there.
I’ve been coming to the 90’s since my 21st birthday and this place never gets old. Great people, awesome drinks and great music to dance to. The drag show is always a favorite of mine. Thank you for being part of my life.
Great drinks. Great bar section. Seating section was good.
This place has gone down hill. Way too many straight guys and even more fat guys. I wish there was some decency with the people they let in.
I came here because I heard they over-pour. I came for happy hour and after ten minutes i asked one of the employees behind the bar how i could get a drink. Some guy outside the bar-top told me it was shift change and to be patient. I went next door.
One amazing experience! The drag show was phenomenal! Every detail was accounted for and my friends that were visiting the establishment for their anniversary enjoyed themselves immensely.Thank you to everyone for putting in all the effort.
Yikes! Staff is unwelcoming and not friendly at all. Security is confrontational and rude when it is not warranted. Somebody put their hand in my pants on the dance floor. Just a sketchy atmosphere overall. I understand that these issues come with the territory of clubbing but Ive had better experiences elsewhere.. Drag show is great though, the performers are talented and a lot of fun! :) If you come here, good luck!
All I have to say is use CASH to pay for your drink! Was charged once for my drink then $22 for who knows what. This was my first stop downtown so it wasnt like i was drunk and forgot what i charged to my card.
Its a nice club with a lot of different rooms to go into and the drag queens are awesome! However, its not very lgbt. My girlfriend and I have gone there a couples times to take a break from the straight men at other clubs, but unfortunately they were all over that place. Nice club, but not very gay!
I’ve never been to a more welcoming place. Nor have I had more friends in my life then I have since I walked through the doors of this beautiful place. Everyone is so welcoming and even help me and inspired me to become a Bio Queen! I look up to each and ever one of these amazing ladies that steps on stage night after night. Never have I seen one queen be nasty nor have I felt uncomfortable by any of them. If you wanna come to a real party you’ll wanna be at the fabulous Gay 90’s! Thank you for opening this place up for all of us that don’t feel welcomesd anywhere else.
Went for the first time. Had a lot of fun! Everyone was really nice. Kinda trying to figure out the dress code tho saw some some guys in jockstrap. Was wondering if I could go shirtless.
Apparently security isnt a top concern at this place. My son had his iPhone stolen and his friend had his wallet stolen. Minneapolis police are also extremely unhelpful stating they deserved what they got.
Had a great ladies night! So many different areas to have fun in, really awesome place to be
Loved this place first time being here and had a blast everyone is nice and just so down to earth great atmosphere everyone is so happy
It was my first time ever at a drag show/club experience. La Femme was amazing & the main host was very including & soooo beautiful & hilarious. The drag queens were working it out there!! Latin night was super fun as well since I am Hispanic. The other dance floor was very packed & there was a couple of weird men who wouldn’t stop eyeing my friends, but overall it was a very turnt & welcoming experience. Definitely coming back!
Always such a fun time there. There is something for everyone and karaoke too. A must if you want to dance and see a show.
LOVE ITTTT! Eggs n Drag Brunch is so amazing. Today i went to the Halloween eggs n drag brunch 2019, and it was my first performance! Anita, Eve, Rosie and Brandonna are all amazing! also, Logyn Spaid! Logyn is so so amazing as well. 10/10 need to go again! Happy to say ive performed on the stage!xoxo- @theonlyquixotic
I was at this facility on 04-19-19. I used their coat check service. I had a tag with my number on it and the clerk gave my coat to someone else who didnt have a tag. I was told the people who took my coat were my friends. The only people I was with also had their jackets stolen. I couldve stood at coat check and picked any coat I wanted there as you can see all coats. I was told if I can describe a coat I would be given that coat. What a horrible service this establishment provides. They do not take any responsibility for their actions. I will never go back again!!!!
Stay away Sketchy place!! Rude staff! P. Nobody helps . You have to wonder if it’s an inside job?
Kicked us out forme friend turning 21 at midnight. we didn’t get her a drink until she was actually 21 and then they told us to leave. we said we’d show her idand they refused. then kicked us out in the cold.
I love this bar...the staff...its my home. Good food. Love the staff and the cocktails are superb. A very welcoming atmosphere and fun place to be and dance.
This place had a very relaxed atmosphere!! This place is great! The 90’s is my favorite bar in downtown!
My besties and I came out to have a good time and we did! Such a positive atmosphere.
Needs many renovations! Kinda gross and smelly.
Foam partys are super fun! 3rd friday of every month!
This place is great! So many different rooms on different levels that all have different themes, music, and entertainment. There is a cover charge of $5, unless you get there early enough! On the first Friday of each month, theres a special event called Kinky Friday. Its pretty crazy and I highly recommend checking it out at least once! The drink prices are pretty reasonable for downtown, and if you are a sober cab, your non-alcoholic drinks are free! The clientele is diverse and usually very fun!
10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND. Ive been here multiple times and this place has gotten significantly worse, with the atmosphere becoming more hostile each time. My phone was pulled out of my front pocket last night and was stolen. I called today asking for a manager, was told there was one there but he wasnt going to take my call. I was given to the head of security, who was INSANELY mean and rude, and told me the manager wasnt there and that he couldnt give me his schedule, and that they refuse to hand over security footage for my police report. The night I was there, the entire security staff was beyond rude, and refused to help with my situation when I was clearly in distress. I know multiple people who have had their phones/wallets/credit cards stolen from this place and have had the same experience.
I used to love this club, but the security they have now is a joke. They allow there Male security guards to put there hands on woman. Idgaf if ur straight or not that is never okay. A man twice my size got away with not only hitting one but two woman last Saturday night. And I think it funny that they talk to me like I have no idea what happend when I was completely sober. Its to bad they have definitely lost my business and all those that I talk to.
Im from Milwaukee and came here last night after pride, it was packed because of pridefest but I thought it would be ok, the cover charge was insanely expensive, $20 to be in a place where its so packed I cant move, sweating to death just standing in there and cant even get a drink. I spent maybe 30 minutes actually inside the place and half the time was spent trying to get back out. What a nightmare, what a waste of money, never coming here again.
Friendly place but not what it used to be. I went with a group of friends. Saw a great drag show! But the drinks were expensive, the average age seemed about 19 and I felt like a minority as a gay man. All in all I probably wont return. Ill keep the memory alive and let the straight highschoolers have their fun.
Such a free and relaxed atmosphere. Perfect choice for our pre wedding fun. Drinks were priced fairly and this place was free flowing and fun.
Great place! But some of the staffs are rude. My friend and i were watching the drag show and my friend is sensitive to strobe lights and had developed a huge migraren and we left the show and went to a different room and she wanted to get some water and she had been waiting for the bartender to notice her and when she did and asked her for water, she laughed and rolled her eyes and ignored her. She didn’t get her water. We went downstairs and went to the game room and she did get water. Bartenders are not to ignore requests like that, especially if they do not feel well and just want water. The place is great overall, but some of the bar staff definitely need training
The best gay bar out
Amazing memories at the Gay 90’sDefinitely recommend to all,Good food, great crown and if you go on the right night amazing entertainment!A+
Im from Chicago where we have an abundance of gay bars and drag shows /clubs. Out of all the ones Ive been to here, nothing compares to the Gay 90s! The atmosphere, the people, the Queens, the service...this place tops it all!! What a great place to hang!! Next time Im in town Ill be back for sure!!
Update: My best friend of over 30 yrs took me here in 2016 and we had the time of our LIVES!!! Cant wait to go again next time Im in town!! Good drinks, good folks & good music!!
We have been coming to the gay 90s for many years. Tonight I was shocked when they asked us to move out of our reserved seats to seat someone more important. Upon this occurrence I asked around and found out others have had similar experiences here. I believe management at the gay 90s is slipping.
Customer service could be better. Bartender used racial slur at customer.Could have been easily avoided if the bartender learned the guys name TBH
Love this place. Especially the drag show
I AM ALWAYS LIKE THERE IT IS MY FOVERThis bar had horrible service and when we asked to talk to the manager we got kicked out with no explination
I love the 90s! Fun & does not judge your style. You can wear a sweater and they will let you in. 3 diffrent sections of entertainment. My favorite is the upstairs where they perform for you. And also the section with the poles. I went one time in the summer around my birthday and they had a foam event going on.
It’s very bad service there and unsafe place to go in!!
Really fun dance club, so many levels of people, performers, special events, etc . Good time to have with friends or maybe find some new ones !
3 dance floors, 6 bars and drag, a game room and karaoke what does the 90s not have? The tenders are usually high spirited and a swell gals but the drinks are overpriced on top of the $5 to $10 cover charge, which is the reason for 3 stars. The bathrooms need a serious cleaning but the atmosphere is relaxed, open and accepting of all walks of life. Its fun to go and watch the shows and then dance your butt off in 5 inch heels. Usually the kitchen closes at 9 but it seem that they have been having problems staffing which leads to long wait times and wilting lettuce. The wiener hole is usually open late, til around 1am, at least 1 night a week but they wont open unless the club is busy and the partys pumping. The bottle service is on par with most other establishments and thier special events are one of a kind.
Ive had issues with the bouncers at this place on more than one occasion, something that has never been an issue for me anywhere else as I am a very polite person! The crowd can also get a bit scary, my friend got punched in the face for no reason while we were on the dance floor! I wont be returning.
Good for club newbies, needs restoration and more informed staff. Had my hat not returned from coat check once.
Great atmosphere. Good tenders
Fun at Bingo night! Looks run down from the outside but they have great hosts and drag entertainment.
I only give this a 1-star rating because the bouncers or people checking your IDs do not have, in any way, shape, or form, the correct knowledge to know if an ID is fake or genuine. The drag show and overall theme of the place gave a good vibe, but the fact that they refused to acknowledge that my GENUINE Indiana license was fake with no way of checking, absolutely destroyed the mood of the place. Why not invest in an ID scanner/checker? It is also an 18+ club and the fact that they cannot distinguish that I am above 18+ is absolutely stupid. I recommend that if you have flawless looking skin, a baby face, and an ID other than a Minnesota license, you take your business elsewhere because the bouncers wont be able to recognize if your ID is genuine or not and will just be given we wont accept it. THIS IS THE ONLY PLACE I HAVE EVER BEEN TO THAT DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT MY ID WAS GENUINE. One of the bouncers said yeah its real and they decided to let me in, I just lost interest in the place and would not be returning at all.
One of the best clubs in town! Great variety of music venues and dancing. The performances are top notch!
I normally dont go into bars alone, but LGBT bars are an exception...This place had a very relaxed atmosphere!! If you are in the Minneapolis area its one of those must see places to check out before leaving :)
Went here for a friends birthday. I enjoyed the drag show, but it felt a little sketchy late at night.
I worked here when I was younger, its nice to stop in and see the familiar faces.
Ive not been there yet, my good fruit. But I shall endeavor to wax - up the old handlebar, put on a clean pair of spats and don my best bowler. Then I shall sally forth and infiltrate their place of purveyance. Suppose I could encounter a young sporting chappie to accompany me to the bath house?
I met some of the most amazing men I could ever imagine who made me feel cut and sexy lots of flirts just what I love about men doing with me and after they close Ive been very Very well taken care of
A male bartender tonight guided me and my friend to an unmarked males bathroom assuming that I was a transgender female. I am a cisgender disabled female. After getting on the toilet, security ordered us to leave before I could even pull my pants up. With my underwear still not pulled up, the manager assumed I was drinking (not asking me or giving me any test) and talked to my friend like I wasn’t even there. End of story. Discrimination still exists even in venues that are supposed to be all inclusive. It’s wrong and there’s nothing I can even do about it.
You know when youre walking in a movie theater and your feet stick to the floor? This place is kinda like that. I still have a good time here and they make strong drinks.
I wanted a drink and my friend went up with me to help for i am new at drinking. And i was cut off by this one lady. Although the music way amazing, i was upset i couldnt buy a drink when they thought i was buying alcohol for my friend when i wasnt!
I can only write about the bar on the first floor. It used to be dark, dirty and have thefunkiest (not funky in a good way) restrooms. Well it is no longer dirty. The carpets and the lights have been cleaned and the walls and ceiling repaired and repainted and the restrooms are state of the art, both aesthetically and functionally. The entrance door is still neglected and dirty and the flower boxes in winter are full of, ugly, Hernadoz Hide-a-Way- on-skid-row ugly. I dont get that because theyve obviously spent many thousands upgrading the first floor. Its still dark but if you want to read a book you can go across the street to the Public Library.Ive gotten really good service. I ask for the good stuff but the price is always right.I go there at least once a week and have had plenty of chances to observe the service.
The bartender (he must be one of the main ones) because hes always there... anyway, he slid me my beer so fast causing it to spill, and then wouldnt replace it and wouldnt take it off of my tab. that was my first beer of the night and he was just down right rude. gave me a whole new train on of thought. ill never go back there unless hes gone
Always a fun place!
I love the shows upstairs and the foam parties are a lot of fun.
Pretty fun club, spent new years eve here, dont remember a lot of the evening as a friend kept pushing drinks on me, but the one thing I do recall, was that when the bartender at the end of the evening watched one of us spill the shot at the bar, he charged for it, and wasnt particularly pleasant about it either. Its a bar, people are bound to get drunk, and accidentally spill, especially when its swamped, dont get butt hurt that I spilled a shot on your bar.
It was very nice and great music. It was a little empty. I went on a Saturday night and there wasnt that many people there. They had cages to dance in and poles as well.
Not a gay bar but rather a place for bachelorette parties to go to feel like they are at a gay bar.
Sketchy place!! Rude staff! Phone stolen. Nobody helps . You have to wonder if it’s an inside job?
Music could be better, gets repetitive for regulars. Beware of your debit/credit cards, because you will be overcharged! the bartenders need training
The club was pretty packed down stairs but in other rooms it felt almost empty, as if no one was there. The bars are amazing, along with lighting, and music. You definitely do not have to be gay, bisexual or anything like that. Yes it maybe easier to talk to people but you could be straight and still go there and dance. No one asks and the atmosphere is totally non judgemental. At least make it an option next time you go?
So much fun! Bartender was fun, attentive, and friendly. Most definitely will visit again.
Super fun place. The customer service is exceptional
Just about what you would expect. Loud music and dancing. The drag shows here are great!
My friend and I had our wallets stolen by a pick pocket at the Gay 90s. Mine was stolen from my jacket pocket. My friends was stolen from his back pants pocket. Both of us had our wallets taken around bar close. We both lost cash, since we had removed our credit cards before going out.My bus pass, which was in my wallet was drained within two days. The thief dumped the rest of my wallet contents a couple of blocks away, which was retrieved by the Minneapolis Police Department. My friends wallet was found at the 90s with all the cash emptied.According to other reviews below, IDs and other items have been stolen at the Gay 90s before. The security staff at Gay 90s was helpful to me in trying to locate my wallet. However, they treated my friend, who is not white, like a criminal while he asked if his wallet had been found.
Dude that works downstairs in the hip hop room under that car is amazing !! White guy super friendly and funny as hell. Might I say he’s also a looker XD.
Not much of a gay bar more of a straight bar. It smells inside like old spilt drinks, the floor is always sticky, and drinks are weak. If youre looking for a actual gay bar try The Saloon on 9th & Hennepin.
Best drag show EVER!
If you establishment close at 2 dont put on here that it close at 3 waste alit of ppl time and gas are being wasted so you need to fix that but i wont be back ever and recommend others dont either, way to much violence in there also.
The 90s is certainly a Minneapolis gay bar institution. However, over the past decade, the crowd has shifted to heterosexual customers outnumbering the homosexual crowd. Famous for their 18+ nights (W/Th/F/Su) and drag shows, this venue has multiple rooms on multiple levels that cater to everyone: Karaoke, dancing, and Go-Go dancers on weekends. Expect to pay $5-$10 cover and about $5 for a rail drink most nights.
The Gay 90s is seriously the only bar I will go to in Minneapolis. I love their sexy male bartender. He is so adorable and is the main reason I go to that bar. Very good food also. And they were very pleasant the time I was there.
Very large mn nightclub. Fun crowd. Great ppl!!!
