Awesome time. Well worth the 40 bucks. Crew couldnt be more friedly. It is kinda weather dependent. I wish they were more willing to go out in the choppy waters more to feel the water under you more. I saw a few sea sick looking people so I understand why they dont but Id like it. Do it if you interested
It is a beautiful tour, but thats all it is. There isnt any educational benefit. The crew was very nice, and did talk about the ship, sailing, the Great Lakes, etc. if asked. But there is no formal educational program. The video is misleading because they dont let you into the crews quarters anymore. (They used to.) I think this is a boring trip for kids over 13. The only fun part is raising the sails. After that, its just a ride.
It seemed pricey at $45 each, but we really enjoyed the 2 hour trip on the lake. The captain and crew were all so friendly. The history of how the ship came to be and its adventures since were captivating. The view of Milwaukee from the lake was wonderful. Be sure to use the bathroom before getting on the ship.
Sailed with the crew, out of Milwaukee, on a gorgeous late summer day. What a blast.
Not everyone wants to take a trip back in time, but I do. The S/V Denis Sullivan is an opportunity to ride on a piece of living history. Wisconsin, and Milwaukee, is lucky to have such a treasure. It rides gracefully in the water. Crew members (and passengers) participate in raising the sails. You can see the teamwork it takes to make a tall ship run on sail power.Ive ridden the ship dozens of times, and I love the looks it gets from passing boats. The captain says, It attracts a lot of fiberglass. This type of ship used to be the cargo hauler of the Great Lakes.I grew up on Lake Michigan, but never really had a chance to be on the water. Im making up for it now, and Im traveling in style.
Mostly boring, and very sickening. Granted, it was a rough day on the lake... But, the crew, for us... Didnt engage with us... They were on the bow, in a group, talking about movies, or TV show trivia, and then actors in 80s movies... We, as customers, were just there. Main deck only, no below deck anything. They talked briefly about the ship, only because someone asked, and also only because we were waiting for the last guests to arrive. Motor was on/being used for propulsion the entire time, smell of diesel exhaust not great... Definitely NOT the experience I was looking for on a period sailing trip.
I took a 7 day trip on the Denis Sullivan and it was a trip of a lifetime I will never forget it. I really appreciate everything the crew members have taught me and I wish it never ended.
Beautiful day to be out on the lake today wonderful crew had a great time enjoyed the entire experience
Awesome care. Thanks!!
