One of the best museum to visit in Milwaukee. They charge the visitors depending on different categories like students, adults, children, etc. they offer discount for students with ID card. The surrounding of the museum has an amazing view. Inside of the art museum, there are various ancestral pieces, ancient paintings, modern paintings, and other art pieces.Due to Covid-19, all the CDC protocols were followed inside the museum. Mask was compulsory and social distancing was followed. There’s also a coffee shop inside, if you would like a small break. Not that you cannot eat or drink walking around in the museum. So you can finish eating/ drinking and then continue visiting the museum. Overall, it was a great place.
This is by far one of my favorite art museums in the Midwest. There is a Monet section there is so much interesting modern art that entertains you and so much quality Renaissance art that will pick your interests. Because of COVID-19, I was only able to see the first floor so I cant wait to come back to see the second floor whenever they choose to open it.
This is a wonderful museum. Every room I walked into had so many amazing things to look at. Rarely are art museums this consistently interesting to me. Usually there’s just a few cool things but I spent almost two hours here and was excited by the pieces of art the whole time. And not only is the art enjoyable - the actual building is beautiful and a pleasure to walk around in.
Beautiful location with an interesting and varied collection. The museum is open on a reservation basis, and confined to the first floor, with arrows on the floor to lead you through the collection in a single direction. The curators have done a very good job of representing their collection in the current format. Had never seen the sails lowered before, amazing!
The building’s architecture is amazing. The building layout and flow design for COVID was well thought out. Definitely worth the visit during your time in Milwaukee.
Stopped by this place during our Wisconsin trip. Entry was free. We werent able to make a reservation online but we were still able to make it and they wait time was reasonable. The staff were quite friendly. Lot of useful information. Im glad I made a stop here. Do recommend! We parked at a 2 hour free parking spot which was a 10 minute walk towards the park nearby.
The Milwaukee art museum is one of the most shockingly beautiful places I have enter. The architecture alone is pure art but its exhibits are even more impressive. Do NOT miss this when visiting Milwaukee.
We enjoy the Art Museum every time we visit! All the museum staff are very informative and cordial! The architecture is phenomenal. Milwaukee is so fortunate to have this dont miss attraction!
Beautiful artistic space with a wide variety of works. Felt very safe with their Covid procedures. K-12 educator get in free with ID. I love coming here with my niece.
I love the art museum and have even had a visit since covid. The second floor is understandably closed. The staff has done a great job at making sure the paths are visible so that distancing is easy. A reservation is also recommended. As one of the largest collections, the art speaks for itself. My favorite is the hand blown pieces by Dale Chihuly.
Beautiful place to go and even if youre not into art you can appreciate beautiful architectures and the views.
The old German clocks they have are absolutely incredible. The level of detail is something you have to see in person to truly appreciate.
Amazing experience! Cannot wait to return when the second floor is open.Loved the timed ticket entry during COVID. It allowed us space to view the art.Hubs doesnt love art, but has already asked to return.
Beautiful architecture with great exhibits. Its a treat to see from outside and inside. Covid19 has it arranged in a continuous one-way flow, but crowds are light so you wont be tripping over people.
What a great museum. Their special exhibits are the reason I go back to Milwaukee often. This time did not disappoint. Went to see the Phillips Collection but also got to see the updated Okeefe permanent collection. Such great pieces the added. Of course, the museum itself is a great design and has such great views of lake Michigan.Do yourself a huge favor and go here often.
A wonderfully approachable art museum. Wide range of works, and styles. This is a great museum for all types of people, even ones who dont usually enjoy museums. The opening of the wings is a graceful and lovely sight if you can catch it but the architecture overall of the building stands on its own. Love the folk and self taught artist, and photography galleries especially.
Absolutley brilliant place! Lots of great collections of the finest arts, and the building itself has amazing arcitecture. This is a must visit attraction in Milwaukee!
This place is like heaven on earth to me...Im fascinated. I live in Chicago and my friend suggested I come up to see this museum knowing I would love it. So, l drove up in August just to see it. The exterior is memorizing...I could look at it all day. In fact, I have on a few occasions now. I was a tad disappointed when I first went in August because the wings were down for the month for maintenance. HOWEVER, when I went back in September they were up for the month which gave me views most wont ever get to see. The wings typically lower at 5:00 p.m. on a normal day. However, since they were up, all the views up and out of the atrium windows were unobstructed during twilight...all the way until 8 p.m. when they closed. It was surreal...no one was there except my hubby and I. It felt like we were on some fantastic space ship....perfectly white and silent with a sea of blue out each window. The museum itself is beautiful and brilliantly laid out. Each room has an ambiance that was thoughtfully matched to the pieces within it. I cant say enough how much I love this museum.
Beautiful building.Only one floor open (Covid-19).Interesting pieces on display. I laughed and cried. Will return for a full tour.
They staff was nice and friendly. Tad expensive for a family of 4. The exhibits were beautiful. The kids were excited to see art that was created by artist they studied in school.
Hands down, my most favorite spot on the lake. MAM is a gem.
Firstly the view of Lake Michigan is worth noting. There is so many amazing exhibits. The really cool thing I like about your tickets, is that you do not need to purchase special exhibit tickets. The ticket you pay for allows you to see all of the traveling exhibits. I loved the art with special mirrors.
Ive been here a couple of times and had a great time. The building is a piece of art in and of itself and is right on the water. The focus seems to be on modern art although there are a fair share of exhibits showcasing old relics. It is quite spacious and the artworks are beautifully curated.
Great museum. If you want to see everything there, youll need at least 5-6 hours. Gray contemporary art section. Cafe had many tasty healthy options.
Great art work! Love the architecture of the building. I like they are maintaining 6 feet distance and all safety precautions. Awesome experience!
Despite the currently limited areas you can visit, theres a good mix of art on display and I cant wait until its fully open once again!
It was so interesting....I really loved it. History gathered about our armed forces.
Fun time, lots to see.
One of the best landmarks in Milwaukee, the art museum is excellent, it has nice views of the Lake Michigan, they have a discovery place besides, parking is plenty underground and on the next door, a bit further down the road is another cheaper parking stop.Could easily spend a couple of hours there. The place isnt very crowded most of the time except on summer weekends.
MAM has done a wonderful job at distancing patrons and maintaining a homogeneous flow. I love this place.
Couldn’t get in as it was temporarily closed during our visit. But it’s very beautiful building architecture from outside.
Great museum with excellent permanent exposition and various temporary exhibits during the year. Amazing building by famous Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. The wings of the museum close at 5pm.
Fascinating place. One employee in particular thought he was the facemask Gestapo, however. All the other employees were very nice.
Amazing museum to check out different art installations. Its also great if you can see the wings open up on a nice day!
I love this museum! Great variety of art exhibits, fun interactive art exhibits, and classes are even offered from time to time. I also appreciate the student discount thats offered here. I could spend all day wandering the place!
I love this museum. Divine, amazing, awesome all the exhibitions.
This is one of the best art museums i have ever been to. I do plan on re-visiting this museum because of how much the arts intrigue me here. I give this place a 5 stars for its beauty in all. The food isnt the greatest, but hey its a museum and not a restaurant lol.
Beautiful place absolutely gorgeous OKeeffe paintings were great! Bathroom were clean and cheap price for everything!
Gorgeous space! So happy to be able to visit this gem right in the heart of Milwaukee! Such an amazingly inspiring place. Look forward to visiting again when time permits.
Well organized for social distancing; one security guard/gallery attendant was especially charming- youll know him from the ihop joke or the painting with the dog. To be fair he taught me to look in a way I hadnt before.
Absolutely gorgeous! A great visit for locals and tourists alike. Even those who arent traditionally art fans will appreciate the collection and even the architecture.
This is an amazing place to go for young and old! try something different you will be pleased and surprised how beautiful this place is. also their cafe has amazing salads
Beautiful building and great collection. From BC pieces to present day.
Amazing place to see!A Must visiting place in Milwaukee??!!Great archetecture building makes your eyes refresh and staying inside the art building is even better. Many different sections in the main level and other level as well. Thanks to pretty much different era of arts, most of people will be satisfied with.If weather is good like summer, spending time outside would be great as well.
Very special place. Considerably big museum for a small city like Milwaukee. There are free (after admission fee) walk in tours at 11am and 2pm. The tour took approximately 1 hour. Highly recommended.
Beautiful museum both inside and out. Love that the featured exhibit is right by the front door. Good mix of old and new, but heavy on more modern art. GREAT for families
Not only is Calatravas architecture incredible, its also extremely inviting and empowering. To step inside is to feel as though you are perched on the edge of some fantastical voyage; the building gives the impression of being a beautiful and futuristic yet still classic ship of some kind. The art within makes good on the architectures implicit promise of movement by providing the journey. The docents/guards were all very polite and very helpful: they have gone out of the way to accommodate me, both by providing me with a wheelchair when necessary and with information about the Museums collection including but not limited to the location of specific pieces.
Fantastic Art museum! Massive collection, plan to spend three hours or more. Great place to get your steps in and admire some amazing art. The building is beautiful itself next to Lake Michigan.
Beautiful outside and lots of interesting art items inside.
Attempts to maintain safe distancing was great. Good signage. Beautiful building.
Interesting stuff. Probably not my exact taste. But it was a really cool layout.
The building is beautiful! Lots of great art work. Its free every first Thursday.
This is a great art museum with an outstanding collection of beautiful and modern art. The setting of this museum really pulls it all together, and the wings on the building are really a spectacle to see. It is clean and well-kept, and the food in the restaurant is delicious. It is an overall top-tier museum.
Even the outside is a work of art! Very easy to navigate. Parking underneath is covered, heated and secure.
I like to spend my time in Arts gallery in every new big cities. Whats unusual and surprised for me here: art object of samples industrial design (L1). Collection of coffee sets in art-decor style (same location). Very interesting exhibition of wooden cabinet and chairs (top level). Strongly recommend.
CLEAN, Polite,Peaceful, Relaxing, BEAUTIFUL PIECES. great way to destress if u love Art and a Beautiful sunny day
My wife and I visited this museum a few years ago! At the time, it was free entry and very well worth the stop. Great photo opportunities. I recommend this stop to anyone!
I feel wildly fortunate to have such a legendary landmark in my neighborhood. The MAM is world-class architectural feat with an equally impressive collection nestled inside. The building itself is best approached from the bridge over Lake Drive or via scooter/bike coming from Veterans Park. Take a few minutes to circle the facility to truly grasp the impressiveness of its construction. Once at the main entrance, you’ll notice no detail was missed, even down to the pivot motion of the doors. The feeling of walking into the Calatrava is something that simply must be experienced, both by residents and visitors (and can be for no charge!). I’d obviously recommend you get a ticket anyways and explore the several levels they have to offer. As a member, I will frequently stop in, even if it’s just for an hour, to wander and take in the ever-changing assortments they have on display. Venturing through the galleries and into one of the corner rooms overlooking Lake Michigan is a true exercise in mindfulness. What a wonderful spot!
Beautiful. Flow and display make this a nice place to visit. Stop in for tea coffee or to eat in the Cafe, as you cant beat the view.
The architecture alone is a must see. The staff are wonderful. The art is very eclectic, a little bite of something for everyone. I honestly couldn’t decide what enjoyed more. It had been awhile since I’d been to a museum. It was incredibly calming to sit in front of art and let my imagination soar. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit.
Beautiful building, great exhibits! Came at opening to watch the wings/sail thing open... It was funny, much ado...Nice gift shop but the center display cases take up most of the space...Nice little cafe. Nice nooks to sit and look at Lake Michigan. We came on the first Thursday of the month (Free!) paid for parking under the museum. The whole place feels very scandanavian.Next time Ill bring the bicycles and go for a ride on the trail behind the museum and right on the lake. Easy freeway access, zipped in and out of town no problem.
This is one of the best things to see in Milwaukee. The design is outstanding with Lake Michigan as it’s backdrop. Then there is the artwork inside and more architectural beauty. You can see modern art and art of the masters. Don’t miss this museum.By the way, we became members!Very popular place and the views by July 2020 are over 11,000!
Small museum! But has a good selection and interesting pieces. Good parking spaces available and very economical. Nice for date or for families. Definitely recommend this place!
This is a gorgeous space. I happened to visit on a family day which meant LOTS of people/children doing lots of art stuff...pretty cool to see. After you enjoy the art, you can grab a bench or comfy chair and settle in to watch the water, the bicyclists, the kite fliers, and the birds. There are two places where you are able to grab somerhing to eat/drink; dont expect too much and you wont be disappointed. I wont comment on the curation of exhibits because when it comes to art I believe to each his/her own.
Loved the museum, all the exhibits I was really passionate about and the day we went it was so beautiful outside, the light inside was so nice.
Do visit at 11:45am as the wings for the structure start opening at 12 must watch for time lapse.Iconic structure with amazing art collection.
The Milwaukee Art Museum is a must see if you’re in town. I love the rotating art collections and consistently checking out the permanent art. The structure itself was designed by Santiago Calatrava who in my opinion is the most unique architect out there now.
I never heard of this museum until my wife wanted to visit. What an amazing work of art and architecture! It’s a must watch it open and close from the outside. The inside is incredible to walk through. Looking around is just pure eye candy. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
What a wonderful museum. Gorgeous architecture. A large variety of galleries. My 6 year old son loved it even. The art studio was very fun. We created 2 pieces of art. It is expensive to get it. I need to check if it is a reciprocal membership partner. It was not too bad for us to go because kids 12 and under are free. It has many decades since I went to an art museum. The price may be normal. Great staff. Students get $2 discount. Teachers and military get in free.
Building is amazing, right on the lake, a cool art museum. The building was used in the Transformers movie! When we were there they were having a wedding by the large glass wall overlooking Lake Michigan and it was so cool! Convenient parking is directly under the building and there are walkways leading to the scenic lake front.
Make sure you check the hours. I was only Abel to walk around outside, but it was pretty awesome even doing that
Even the parking garage is beautiful. The layout is an absolute maze but I think given time may make sense. I loved the selection and size and staff. Being next to the lake with huge windows was a big bonus. Gorgeous museum. My only negative was walking into the cafe around half an hour before stated close to find it completely empty. I waited for a hostess or server but when none showed I headed out to eat elsewhere
Beautiful building. Limited selection of art. Nice cafeteria with terrific views
We saw a Warhol Brillo box! Just a fun museum. Lovely location, some works that youll remember from Western Civilization, and frequent community events.
The entranceway alone is worth the price of admission. Its all white and makes a bold statement as it welcomes you in. As far as the art goes, youll be dazzled by the Andy Warhol soup cans, which are original ones, a Rothko and a Picasso to name a few. Worth going to see all the these priceless works of art even if youre not an art historian.
Beautiful! Well designed and thought out pathway during the pandemic. Accessible and kind staff
I was visiting Milwaukee last week due to my work. As I had one day off I decided to hit the art museum. It was definitely worth visiting!! I was astonished by the architectural concept of the main building. Beautiful!
The building is One of the best Architectural designs!
Rude employees. No compassion for the disabled. Manager refuses to accommodate disabled people if you come in and need help but arent buying a ticket. Hes only about making money.
Absolutely beautiful iconic building on the west shore of vast Lake Michigan. The museum is well built and decorated with simplicity but is rich in seriousness. Admission fee is $19 plus $7 for up to two hours parking. A must-go place in Milwaukee.
I visited with my mother and daughters and had a wonderful time. The building was a work of art in its own right. We appreciated the free entry for children. We spent 2 hours enjoying the permanent and visiting exhibits. Highly recommend this gem in Milwaukee.
This art museum itself is a masterpiece. It looks like a spaceship and has an outstanding modern design. Great lake views. Recommend visiting. One of the must haves when youre in Milwaukee!
While many people see Milwaukee as a blue collar town, seeing us as more unsophisticated types, we actually have a very well-curated art museum that you should try and get to at least once in your life. The building itself, called the Calatrava Building, won an award for its structural design. It is also positioned perfectly next to Lake Michigan giving many stunning photo opportunities in the exterior alone.Inside, the museum is just as fabulous. It is a rather large art museum, so plan plenty of time if you wish to experience everything (I recommend a minimum of 3 hours). They allow pictures everywhere which is great. They have several sections from modern art to classical Dutch art and their collections are rotated regularly. They also have an incredible main exhibit at any given time, with my two favorites being about the idea of play in mid-century modern design and the art of comic books from the golden and silver ages of comics. This speaks to the accessibility of the museum itself where even the layman can come and gain a greater appreciation of art without feeling condescended to.
This is a world renowned Art Museum. The collection is exquisite and they have pieces from all over the world. The art is from many different eras. Just the architecture of the building alone is a beautiful work of art. The art museum has a lot of functions for the community. I’m about to join as a member because I enjoyed my experience there over the weekend so much.
Must do & see!! A slice of surprisingly wonderful architecture rises from the shore of Lake Michigan to greet you as you approach Milwaukees lakefront. Its bigger than youd expect inside and their collection is vast enough to bring you back for multiple visits. The kids loved it.
Did a great job of handling COVID challenge. Great to be able to get some culture in with all the craziness going on.
We love the Art Museum and are fortunate to have such a beautiful facility in our city! We visit at least a few times per year. Our daughter is in an art program through her school in partnership with MAM and she gets to visit as part of this program called the Junior Docent program. Its really opened her mind to the world of Art. We also enjoy going to the Kohls Art Generation Studio to make our own art. Thats one of my favorite parts of the museum!
Amazing. Down side is only 1 floor is open
It was a nice experience. The staff were extremely helpful and courteous. Even the guards were willing to go out of their way to help us. The exhibits are plenty with modern art and the American art and cubism, Renaissance, Ancient Grecian and Roman artworks, etc. We were particularly interested in the works of Picasso, Chagall, and Monet. But there were many other famous works on display. There was also a paper workshop where kids can create their own artworks. The admission is not free but well worth it.
Amazing piece of art. Please enjoy the Calatrava new building. Is such a piece of art and it is completely free (just to get in the building) but the museum prices are pretty decent.
Incredible design!
The MAM is wonderful architecture. We visit about every other month to view their collections. This day, we attended an awards ceremony for high school artists. The photos are of student artwork.
Absolutely amazing. Always new pieces. The security is a little.... Hovering, makes you feel uncomfortable. But besides that the staff is quite inviting. The facilities are modern and well kept. Everything is clean and simplistic while maintaining a beautiful aesthetic.
This is the most beautiful building in Milwaukee. Inside is a treasure trove of art from around the world, with lots of permanent works on display as well as special collections. The open spaces are often the backdrops for private events and public concerts, and all are exquisitely staged and serviced by the museum’s caring, expert staff. Overall, it’s a world-class art museum of the highest order.
No words for the architecture which is an engineering marvel and aesthetically pleasing. Loved the view from inside the museum towards the lake shore and inner ceiling of the structure. Only issue was for to find an exit towards the lake shore..had to go around the building to find an exit towards the lake shore. Recommended for a one time visit if travelling to Milwaukee.
The Milwaukee Art Museum is excellent. To me as a layperson it seems world class. Beautiful artwork, some historic pieces and overall incredible design. Its easy to get to, inexpensive, and the staff are friendly and helpful.
If you love art, definitely worth a visit. Loved the old and dusties, as well as some of the modern art. The building is also quite beautiful. The views out of the building are also amazing. Spend the whole day there and just enjoy the experience.
This art museum is one of the more interesting buildings I have been in. The parking garage under the museum is below water level of the lake and is beautiful. The art is top notch with representation by many of the big names.
An amazing and beautiful architectural delight surrounded water…absolutely perfect spot on summer days. had a fantastic visit!
