There was so much to see! My husband and I spent 4 hours just enjoying the first floor! We saw dinosaur bones and prehistoric dioramas. We explored the rainforest and learned about research missions to CostaRica. We learned about the history of Milwaukee and enjoyed a peek into the daily life of many European countries from the 1800s. We took time to read the signs and consider the efforts of the artists who made the displays. It was a truly enjoyable experience!

Recently reopened and they did a fantastic job.A few things to know:You are given a set route to see the museum and masks are required. Also you are unable to enter from the parking garage, so be prepared to walk around to the front entrance on Wells St. There are no bubblers or food available within the museum currently. The gift store and all the little stores within Old Milwaukee are currently closed.Otherwise its just as good as it always was. Dinosaurs are amazing and all the exhibits look recently updated. We had a great time and were happy to get back into the Museum!

This is a must visit place in Milwaukee! Amazing collection of everything - right from historic animals, native Americans, bison exhibit, butterfly garden, bug exhibits, Egyptian area.Lots of interesting and interactive activities. There are exhibits representing every country - though a bit dated!Kids or adults, everyone would have an amazing and worthy time.Wish the lighting could be better.Planetarium is big and lots of really interesting shows round the clock during the museum hours.Only downside are the restrooms and drinking water stations - both were not in good condition and needed maintenance. Otherwise its a 5 star place and a must visit.

Very clean and well kept museum with so much to learn you could easily come back a few times and still learn more. Loved the butterfly garden and we also caught a showing in the planetarium. The streets of old Milwaukee is a great addition along with the trolley. Learning can be fun and this is just the place to do it!

Free day every 1st Thursday of each month unless website specifies otherwise. Lunch area on first floor only, with coffee shop. You should pack your own lunch. I didnt have anywhere NEAR enough time for everything, yet all that I saw was really spectacular and I cant wait to come back again. The streets of old Milwaukee was so much fun and the tiny details were a spectacular bit of fun to catch. The rainforest is SO detailed, you can tell a lot of work went into all the little specifics there. The Earth science was also impressive, but there is where I dallied too long and ran out of time. Most impressive, moreover, is the inclusion of sensory rooms in public spaces. The temperature was comfortable and the room was a perfect balance of sensory options without becoming overstimulating. The communication panel was a startling relief to see. I wish that more public spaces were widely accommodating of these needs, and commend the museum for providing it!

First off I should say that pre-Covid our experience was slightly better. We live in Green Bay and because it’s raining decided to make the trek down with a 3 year old. We looked at their website and it didn’t say anything about closures for the museum, including exhibits. I called ahead and asked about their masking policy since I legitimately do have some lung issues that make masks hard for me so I have a shield that I wear. I’m not the person who just doesn’t like to wear them and claims medical exemption, it’s legitimate. I simply don’t go places I can’t because of their policy and understand. I spoke to a nice woman who told me my shield would be fine and that our 3 year old didn’t need to mask. Perfect! We arrived today in our allotted time slot and had to walk to the other side of the building because they wouldn’t let you in through the parking garage. Fine... just a small hiccup. We went to check in and they told me my mask wasn’t acceptable and our 3 year old had to mask. I told them that we drove almost two hours and I had called previously to check. A kind woman came out and explained that we couldn’t come in if we didn’t have their masks on. She did say we would be able to sit on their benches and take our masks off when we needed. After being told they wouldn’t refund our tickets and having drove almost 2 hours with a 3 year old I said fine. Put the mask over my shield so it was barely acceptable and went in.While going through several of the exhibits are closed! The butterfly area wasn’t open, none of the fountains are running, and none of the moving parts in the Native American area move either. The gift store, coffee shop, and candy store in olde Wisconsin weren’t open. I understand that we’re living in unprecedented times but come on y’all. Put this stuff on your website for people to see before they visit. I was highly disappointed and won’t be going back. At least discount a ticket or something for all of the things we’re missing.

Nice museum with a really interesting old Milwaukee exhibit! You get on a trolley and go back in time by watching images of buildings and people in current day Milwaukee change into recreated images of the same buildings as they were in the past! Then they have a walk through town setup! I really enjoyed going here and would be a fun experience for kids too! I also enjoyed their rainforest exhibit! It was put together very well and all of the displays were amazing! However, it was a little small. The parking is close and inexpensive. I was there for several hours and parking cost only $11in the parking lot attached to the museum. The museum has free days the first Thursday of every month, so then you only need to pay for parking. The museum exhibits themselves are educational and engaging. Not a complaint. Our favorites are the Streets of Old Milwaukee and the butterfly exhibit. However, I recommend bringing your own lunch. Since, its Museum Week the cafes line was longer than we have ever experienced. I ordered a grilled chicken wrap. At first I thought it was pretty decent. Grilled chicken, cheese, avocados, lettuce and tomato... Turned out the first half of the wrap was decent. The second half was lettuce and tomato after the first two bites. This museum is spectacular! Spent five hours there like it was nothing! A great way to spend a rainy day. The planetarium show called Its About Time was a fun twenty minutes. Definitely more aimed towards children, but had a nice amount of good information in it. My only complaint is regarding the poor labels and very general information about the artifacts. Very few artifacts include information and most of the displays only contain a general description of the concept. I would have liked to see more information about circa dates or even an brief line about what an artifact is or the authenticity of the artifact. Id like to know if the thing Im looking at is real or if its a reproduction. Some of the descriptions did this but many things were not. Spiders Alive was also an interesting exhibit.
