WHAT AN AMAZING WILDLIFE PRESERVE! This place is amazing for a nice walk with family, friends or even by yourself. The loop around the preserve is about 1.45 miles long with a few turn outs into heavily wooded areas or views of the lake. I called before coming in to ask if I was able to jog and they said their guidelines were to be courteous to others walking on the trails. When you enter drive down the dirt rocky road until you see gates, keep going straight ahead and enter the round about and park anywhere. When you enter the gates there’s directions around the preserve but for my first time I went off google maps to see where I was around the park to not get lost. About 70% of the trails are shaded and the rest are exposed to the sun. Place has some bridges to have a epic scenery of the entire preserve, Enjoy your walk and take some water. Place accepts donations.
Very beautiful place. I had not idea this place existed until I saw it in the Google maps. I couldnt believe how long the actual trail was. It doesnt look like a big place when you first pull up. It was so amazing. I cant wait to go back. They have restrooms on site. They also have bird viewimg stations that almost always have birds. Just an amazing place..
The Wildlife Pressure was suggested to us by a friend and I am glad we finally made time to come walk the trail. We come out to Midland and Odessa every few months and I have never seen so much greenery in the area! It is beautiful! They had ample signs about closing times and wildlife cautions. The entire family had fun on the trail and it was very easy to walk. We will definitely be going back.
This nature preserve in the middle of West Texas is a gem! I am so glad that I found this place. The trails are relatively kept up and there’s plenty of plenty of shade throughout the ~1.5 mile trail.I saw a bobcat, some bunnies, rats, dragonflies, and so much more.I came here to try to get some miles in on a “trail” vs road. I will say there’s not a lot of elevation so it’s a relatively easy run/walk.Throughout the park there are multiple stations you can stop at and enjoy different views.I also met the supervisor, Mr. Rangel, who keeps up the preserve. He was very kind and we shared a great conversation.
A needed respite and wonderful way to commune with nature. The I-20 Wildlife Preserve is a great place to get away for a few minutes or a few hours and enjoy some peaceful quiet. On my trek through the trails, I saw so many cool things. Lots of ducks, birds, and other wildlife. I even saw a bobcat! If youre a nature or landscape photographer, youll love the chance to get some really nice shots without having to travel far. And all for the low low price of FREE! I-20 Wildlife Preserve is kid and family friendly, but no pets, alcohol, or bikes.
When they say don’t be late they mean it not even by 2 minutes or youll be stuck in there for about 20 minutes, oh and get a picture of your license plate taken. Myself and like 7 other vehicles had to encounter a hostage situation. Other than that it’s a beautiful place.
It was alright. Its Refreshing when you just wanna take a walk. It has a lot of dried trees. It was kinda sad to see it abandoned or not maintained anymore. It must be a nice little place to walk back then.
I looked on the website and on Facebook to specifically check the rules about dogs. We came from out of town to look for birds, bugs and butterflies. We arrived to see ugly signs saying NO DOGS!. If this is so important why dont you put it online to save people frustration, time and energy?
Nice to see a natual area here where there is not much nature. Was too hot and august so no water 8n the pond or birds but really nice to see something so planned and looked after in this way. A gem.
Midland is ugly. Period. This place makes you forget that.I love this place. Easily one of my favorite places in all of Midland. It’s the only bit of natural beauty for miles in any direction. Not a visit goes by that I have to remind myself, “you are actually in Midland right now.”It is also a photographers paradise and you will see more photography sessions happening along your stroll than you will probably see wildlife, but you can’t blame them... Midland is not pretty and you have to take every advantage you can get.
When they say they close at a certain time, they mean it lol. Fun walk, lots of Pokémon Go stops and gyms. Highly recommend
Nice place to walk. It takes about half hour to complete, walking. It closes at 8:00 p.m. Just dont be late at the gate, not even two minutes, the gate keeper is not very friendly.
Saw so many big bluegill and bass one bass that probably topped 8 lbs you cant fish there tho saw a coin and a bobcat we go like every month its really pretty and so much wildlife I loved it!
Really cool very beautiful though I think they got the dragonflies mixed up with maskito
This was a nice find in Midland, since the area is quite bare. We enjoyed walking here and viewing the wildlife. We saw many kinds of birds, a couple rabbits, wildflowers and other plants. It was a good break from the bleakness of the area.
I didnt see much of anything, maybe the wrong time of the day/year. Either way, I enjoyed myself. It was disappointing to see the amount of trash people have left behind. If you bring it, take it back home with you & dispose of it properly. I will visit again before & I return home, this time Ill go early am.
Loved this place is was very relaxing . Great for meditation reflection and just taking a great stroll. Very romantic. Very educational
Love visiting and walking the trails with my kids. They learn so much more when they experience nature!
Would not recommend to anyone, unless youre looking for a jogging trail.
Its just beautiful! A great tucked away place with a great walking trail and duck blinds for viewing only.
You forget where you are as you walk thru the playa. It is unbelievable! Take your kids. They will love it!
Best time to visit is in the spring. You can make a beautiful flower bouquet, theres plenty of sightseeing to do, you can have a picnic, its for the whole family! Excellent to go for a walk or a run. Really no complaints!
A nice little escape close to town. We take the kids there when the weather is nice to get them outside and away from screens. There is great tree climbing, stick collecting, nature observing, and interesting views. There is loud highway noise pollution but you can sort of tune that out.
This is a very peaceful place to walk and get my steps in for the day lovely scenery and small wildlife
LOVE this place. I live in North Texas but grew up in Odessa. My husband and I came to visit my dad who is a photographer. I took some amazing pics too! The walkways are well tended. The amount of birds we saw was fantastic. I loved the butterfly area and the flowers around were amazing. Five stars. Will come back!
Great place togo and relax and take beautiful pictures.
Went here for the first time last week and now planning a weekly walk with friends. Beautiful place to walk and just escape the city life! Would highly recommend!
Best place to hangout. Can even plan family picnic. School trip for kids. Even can plan romantic date there. Morning time is the best. Do visit. Wild life here is a good attraction in summer. Few of bird species comes around here at spring time makes beautiful sounds.
I really enjoy this place. Its clean. Its peaceful. I enjoy watching the birds, frogs, all the different plants n trees
It is so beautiful ! I saw a variety of wildlife, abundance of birds, including hummingbirds, incredible amounts of bees. Even though you can hear the I-20 traffic, it is a beautiful oasis with cattails in our dusty desert !
I love walking at this park. Reminds me of home in S. Louisiana. With the water and shade, it makes walking in this W. Texas heat a lot more pleasant. Also, plenty of wildlife for you nature lovers.
Quiet a place in the middle of crazy for some peace
It was really pretty! But be prepared: the trail takes a little over an hour to walk10/10: would not wear jean shorts again
We saw lots of flowers and critters. It was really nice to see a sanctuary for animals when this is such a dry place. We saw a turtle and really enjoyed ourselves. Definitely go check it out
This is a must stop for birders. This is a nice hidden gem in West Texas that more people should know about.
Great place to take the kids. Easy walking for us older people.
I love having a place to be outside in or near Midland and feel like youre in the wilderness. The trails are maintained and it is basically a 1.25 mile loop with occasional scenic overlooks to view the playa when its full of water. There is a lot of native wildlife there that you will rarely see on other places around Midland. I really enjoy the Preserve. :)
Great place for a short hike.
Enjoyed walking the well shaded, peaceful trails. Make sure you use the restroom and bring plenty of water
We LOVE this place. We always pack a small picnic and take our sweet time to look around. Today we saw a turtle, a cardinal, and a HUGE frog
I love this park! It is a peaceful place to just get out of all the hustle and bustle! It is really cool to see the big bullfrogs! We came here to get our family pictures this year! The only downside is that it doesnt allow pets. I love walking my dog, but since I cant bring my dog, I rarely come here.
Love this little spot. You dont really see any animals, but it is beautiful to walk through
We really enjoy the nature preserve. Its a nice place to walk with the kids. Its definitely not a national park or awe inspiring beauty, but its a nice trail and a cool place. The biggest gripe against it is that you can hear the interstate. The road noise really ruins one portion of the trail, but most of it is very pleasant.
Amazing Gem in the heart of Midland.
Only place in Midland that makes you feel like you are not in Midland. Trees, water, etc. Actually makes you feel like you are in the woods until you hear the vechiles on the highway. Good place to have pictures taken. Best to visit after it has rained recently. Excellent place to take kids for a nature walk and look at wild life. Probably the best place Midland has to offer (Its still Midland..so does not say much).
Its so much fun it takes me away to another town
This is a great place with shade and water just keep an eye out for the snakes and ants!
Beautiful spot to walk
Great place for bird photography and if you’re lucky you might see a Bob Cat. Take bug spray you will need it. Update, has gotten over grown with cattails and weeds
First time going here. Had fun with the family and was able to see ducks, which is my toddlers favorite lol. My little is about 1 1/2 and we had to make sure he didnt hurt himself on the mesquite trees on the side of the trail. Will be back though.
It was so cold great place to hide something Ill be coming back for sure
Such a wonderful place to absorb some actual nature in this dirty area of the stateDepending on the time of year it can quite barren with a drastic lack of life or absolutely flourishing everywhere you lookEither way its always a nice break
A nice quiet place to go and spend time with family
Great place to run/walk though if the wind is blowing from the south you will get exhaust from the highway. Make sure you sign in as attendance records help fund this awesome nature preserve. lots of wildlife visits this watering hole especially in dry months. Ive seen cats, turtles, scorpions, rabbits, raccoons, and many many birds and water fowl.
Just 3 miles from Holiday Inn Express, this charming little park provided a place to take a long walk and enjoy nature. The roar of highway traffic on I 20, cell towers and surrounding industrial sites made me wonder who had the foresight to preserve this little bit of nature. Trees and shrubs are marked, giving us an idea of where particular plants came from and after driving through hours of scrub country it was instructive to learn that there are many types of plants in TX!
I enjoy this place
The paths are well-maintained, its peaceful, and its fun to watch the birds, dragonflies, frogs, and butterflies.
I would like to have more places like this in Midland
A nice refuge from the baroness of West Texas. I could have used a bit more interpretive information, but overall a nice hiking experience.
Great walk if the weathers nice, go after a good rain when the water levels are up and it looks alot different. Theres a cool butterfly garden and a really tall structure that lets you see almost the entire park.
What a charming spot. The nice trail is a loop that goes around the pond. There is an observation tower and several well constructed blinds that keep rain off. I stop here every time I pass through Midland. I also go to the Sibley Nature Center.
Its a nice foresty get-away. I recommend taking a nice stroll with your family.
Perfect spot for a walk on a spring day. Great wetland area, with plenty of trees. Bullfrogs in the middle of west Texas was a surprise.
Its a shame that all of Midlands green space is confined into one square mile next to a highway. I have found this to be one of the only solid places to run. The path is a 1.5 mile loop with a mix of blacktop and wooden bridges of the water area. I does make me really appreciate what I have back home in the upper midwest.Has bathrooms, and is wheelchair accesible
Your best public option for nature walking in Midland. A little road noise, a lot of consistent heart on behalf of the volunteer crew making this place happen and continuing to get better! Kudos to all tge recent cleanup crews, your efforts really show!
I didnt walk through but my family that did had a good time.
Im just visiting the area. It was nice to be able to walk in nature for a while. There wasnt alot of wildlife, at the time I visited, mid morning. Ducks, a few frogs and birds are the feeders. It was a nice place. Several docks to walk out on and a larger, longer one overlooking the water.Over-all, a nice retreat.
Ive lived in West Texas for around 40 years, and just found this place last year. Very beautiful and clean place to walk and relax. Its very clean and there is a wide variety of native wildlife and plants to be seen here. It feels like a different part of the state!
Nice felt like you were out in country despite the noise of I20
Its a nice place to just walk and enjoy the out doors. Kids enjoy it alots of frogs and dragon flys and ducks. Check it out it dont look like West Texas here
This was a nice adventure for our scout den. Everyone enjoyed it. Wonderful nature walk. I recommend to anyone who is looking for a change of scenery round here!
Great place to just relax. Easy walking and a wonderful place to take outside pictures.
Very nice park, relatively close to town, stroller and wheel chair accessible! Well kept, quiet, safe for children. Clean.
EasyWonderful clean walk.Birding is great.
Great place to take a walk or go for a run.
This place is great! Its a real escape from the usual West Texas scenery and its right in our city! Lots of plants and wildlife to check out and the walkways and bird-viewing blinds are great!
Free place to get out and view nature. Lovely high peak to view the whole place. I want to say a little over a mile.
It it a wonderful place to go especially for taking picturesGreat place to go for a walk or jogPlus its a break for the desert
This is such a unique place in Midland. Where else can you feel like you are spending time in nature in the middle of an oil field? We always enjoy our walk around the playa. We always see lots of wildlife and there are two geocaches on the property, which are fun
I didnt see anything in there. Maybe they were close
Very beautiful place its like it dont belong in Midland it should be in East Texas not West Texas really pretty very secluded
What a wonderful place, does not feel like typical West Texas.Great for walking trails, butterfly and bird watching.
Terrible ours for someone in the workforce/oilfield, on top of that this place isnt open past their POSTED hours and they are willing to lock you in and leave without considering someone getting hurt.
Good preserve and example of nature in West Texas. The area could do with some cleanup of trash and clutter though.
Good place to jog. Very peaceful, best scenic views in midland.
Its a great beautiful place. But be sure to be out by 8 or youll feel the wrath of pissed off cops that have to come let you out or some lady that works for the preserve that threatens to close the place because of people that dont get out in time!
Unique... this Area Preserve and Sibley Nature Center offer the only experiences like this near town... 5 s
Best place in Midland and surrounding area for actual nature
Nice place
Nice hidden place to go to see West Texas wildlife.
The beauty of nature at its best. Bring your camera. There are lots of photo ops.
For Midland, this place is incredible. Nice scenery, great walk/run.
Only place you can go and enjoy the outdoors in Midland.
Place for a walk and workout. For some reason it has Open hours, which makes it inconvenient for people working long hours.
We visited in the winter which is very dry in Texas, but there was still water in the lake which was a welcome break. A great place for a walk outside as a family.
A beautiful place to walk and enjoy nature!
