Great trails and escape from Newport. Just wish there was more bike trails so it would be possible to bike without being on the ultra dangerous and narrow roads.
If you want to walk through a meadow, this is your trail
Nice change of pace for a hike through nature
Parts of the trail are not so well marked, and parts very muddy. So come prepared. Then a nice stroll.
This is my second review. I have been through this trial a few times and its a long one. The maps says its an 8 mile walk/hike, but We have done up to 13 miles on it 2 times so far. There are a few entrances (see map) and I like to start at the Linden Lane off of East Main Road in Middle Town, R. I.There are so ny different types of trails. as far as wheelchair access, well I dont think its accessible for them . Because there is gravel, wooded areas, grassy trails and more. I think it would be difficult to go through with a wheelchair . During your walk you will come across 3 different roads. You have to cross in order to go through to continue on the trail. Some areas are confusing on which way to go. In those particular areas. make sure you have a map. I suggest printing one out before you go. They may not have any at each checkpoint. I didnt see any last time I went. It took my friend and I Donna 5 hrs to do 13 miles. we walked about an average of 21 min a mile. We did take a 15 min brake and we make sure we have plenty of water.. I suggest if your going to go the distance to wear your most comfortable shoes.I like to bring my camera and take pictures of parts of the trail, it has some awesome sceneryEnjoy
Come here almost everyday to eat lunch. Very peaceful and quiet.
Never knew how far this trail can take you, and if you get lost. you could do a lot of miles. The map says 8 miles I believe all the way around. However it has a few roundabouts you can add to your hike. I have been a few time and will continue to go. THERE MIGHT NOT BE A MAP, SO i SUGGEST YOU PRINT ONE OUT IF YOU PLAN ON DOING THE WHOLE THING. Its not all woods, you walk by trails that will lead you to walk by beautiful golf courses, homes, and such beautiful scenery. In between all of this is are the woods, with nice bridges over looking streams of water. I totally recommend it
It was very muddy on the trails. We liked being on the sea shells better. It was nice being near that pretty golf course. Lots of geese poop so wear boots.
Sakonnet Greenway trail runs from the Glen to Mitchells Lane and goes around Newport National Golf Course. Beautiful views of pastures and forest. Running or walking over creeks and wetlands is a immersion in island nature.
Beautiful place to hike and search for birds
Great 2 mile walk alongside golf course, connection options to longer walks both north and south
