We had a wonderful time as a family of four on our first climbing experience at Rise Up. JB and Stephen were very welcoming and helped explain and demonstrate everything to us safely. We were pleased that even our skeptical 5 year old was able to climb safely (and that they had equipment available for her petite frame). To top it all off, because it was our oldests birthday, the guys surprised our kids with free swag and it made the entire experience that much sweeter! This is a wonderful small business thats easy to support - family fun, movement, and impeccable customer service! Five stars!

Awesome. Had a great time. My son loved the 40 foot wall and the boulder walls. The guy who checked us in, I dont remember his name, was very helpful and even gave my son some advice on how to boulder and taking his skills to outdoor climbing. Highly recommend.

It was our first time doing this, and the staff was super friendly and helpful! My kids has a great time, and I even did some climbing. What a workout! Its got a relaxed atmosphere, but they are serious about your safety. They did a great job with making sure we understood everything we needed to know.

For casual visitors, this place is overall decent. The bouldering area is decent enough for beginner climbers and the rigs for climbing up the larger walls are friendly to newcomers. There appears to be little risk in the setups for inexperienced climbers/belayers, and their design allows people to switch walls with ease. Also, the staff here are generally friendly and helpful. All of my interactions with them were pleasant. For competitive and dedicated climbers, this place is average. My chief complaint is that bouldering and toproping routes just arent fun to climb, and there is little opportunity to climb in your respective style. I get the vibe that you have to have seen the route setters beta in order to complete a route; you have to do it the setters way or not at all. This isnt always a bad thing, but it is really frustrating here. Shorter climbers are given little to no consideration in route-setting, and taller climbers are clumped onto the wall in contorted ways that will just never work because of their build/body type. As you can imagine this also leads to massive disparities in ratings for routes. A route with all jugs on a 10 foot wall and a route with all crimps on a 15 foot overhang wall may both be rated V1 (I have actually encountered this here). This is furthered by customers being allowed to rate routes which is a good idea in theory, but in reality you get really strong regulars who significantly underrate climbs and contribute to the disparity. Even worse, this disparity appears to go unnoticed: there are extremely easy routes that have the appropriate rating while there are significantly harder routes with the same rating. It creates an illusion that there are easy routes for beginner and intermediate climbers, when the reality is that there are a lot of hard routes passed off as beginner routes.I get the impression that the staff have little experience developing routes for a varied customer base, and that they dont test the routes before slapping a rate me sticker on it. In support of this, holds in the bouldering area just arent secured on new routes. I have spun between 3-5 holds every day I have climbed here, and it deters me from trying anything too high. This isnt exactly their fault, it is difficult to set routes that are difficult and that meet the varied styles of climbing and bodies types.EDIT: Most of the issues with bouldering routes appear to be mirrored in toproping routes.TLDR: A good gym for casual visitors, and a decent gym for serious climbers. Route development needs improvement if they want to accomodate beginner, intermediate, and shorter climbers but the facility is good. I have had some good afternoons here, but overall feel that there is definitely some room for improvement.

Always kind people on staff! They switch up the holds on routes at least a few times a month and offer classes for beginners.

A great local gym with a few minor issues. Many routes have spinning holds and they can take a week or more to tighten them down, even when they are flagged. More temperature control would be nice, during the winter it was frigid inside and now that spring has arrived it has been very warm.

Great Place to climb. They just need a 1 or 2 hour pass instead of the lowest price being a day pass, the day pass is.not very expensive to be fair.

Great place to spend a day with family and friends, so long as nobody in your party is afraid of heights! RiseUp offers boldering areas and top-rope climbing, and caters to all ages, and is reasonably priced when considering the membership benefits.

I had been wanting to give my son the chance to try rock climbing for a while and decided to go here while in Lynchburg (were from out of town). We were totally ignorant to the climbing world, but the guy at the front desk (Tyler? Trevor? Travis?) was very helpful and treated us great. After the orientation and safety checks, my son was climbing within 45 minutes of getting there. We were grateful for their helpfulness and knowledge. Recommended.

I recently moved back to Lynchburg and was looking for a gym to join, so I went from gym to gym (not like there are that many in Lynchburg anyway) basically interviewing them and seeing what the gyms had to offer. One of my friends suggested that I check out the climbing gym downtown and so I did, they sold me within the first 15 minutes of walking in the door. The next day I came back, got a membership and have been climbing ever since. The facility is great and the community is even better! I was weary since I was a beginner, but, I soon learned that the staff as well as the members were very beginner friendly unlike some of the climbing gyms I had been to in the past. Since joining a little over a month ago the problems on the bouldering wall are all new from when I started, this facility is excellent, the staff and environment is awesome and most of all, they know their stuff!
