Originally I came here to see the railroad exhibits and take pictures. Its a great place to get local history and really old dates from mid to late 1800s exhibits have been really preserved and restored extremely well. Free admission and takes about an hour to really appreciate all there is to offer. Most of the offerings are outside, so wait for great weather. What was on the inside was mostly closed due to covid scare. Recommend!

The Ranching Heritage Center is a collection of all types of house structures built across the plains to meet the needs of the early settlers. The settlements and landscape setting provide an interesting and engaging historical walking tour. From the reconstruction of every day life on farms and ranches to the depot and train travel every one stays engaged in the history. We take our adult students here every year. Most of the are only in Lubbock for their education. The Ranching Heritage Center helps us share the history of our area. It also provides a walking talking environment to learn more about our students. The historical structure and displays are great conversation starters and bring up memories and stories from their past and present.

Really cool place to visit! But too hot in the August sun haha. The museum part is educational and interesting. Then its a nice walk through a well laid out path through actual old buildings of each type and era with explanations and the history of each building and the occupants. Along with this are old train cars, pickup trucks, wagons, etc. Also an original oil drilling rig about a century old. From time to time there are special events, music, dances and so on. It looked like that would be a lot of fun. It is really a neat place. Done by donation but not skimped on. Its something different than the normal touristy things as well.

I attended the Christmas event they hold here every year. They have actors dressed in late 1800s - 1900s clothing and playing roles in their Mills, houses, stables, etc. Santa was also there and set up very nicely. This is a well put together Christmas event and I would highly recommend attending!

Enjoyed it very much, lots to see old train, houses and shacks, spent about 3 hours, and its free entry. Visited from England, only thing missing was somewhere to get a coffee and a snack which in UK there would have been, but enjoyed it a lot.

We thought an hour or so here would be fun, instead we spent half a day and it was worth every minute of it. Being from the mid-west we had no clue about the history of ranching, now we do. Theyve done an amazing job of telling the story of western ranching.

As a midwesterner, I had no idea what to expect from this center. We were blown a way and spent half a day there exploring everything. They have done an exceptional job of creating a chronological history of the west. The buildings give a realistic feeling of what life was like for early ranchers. Great family venue for all ages.

A really good place to take the family for an afternoon walk. The museum is almost completely outdoors. So bring screen, good shoes and some sunglasses because you will be doing quite a bit of walking. Excellent for a history fan wanting to see how the area developed over time! Really cool place to check out. And better yet - its free admission!

My favorite thing they do is around Christmas time. They do a candlelight walk thru the whole outside. Its lit up and in each house they have characters acting out what it was like to live in the era. Very nice to bring the kids and reflect on history. Also they have a live band and hot coco and hot apple cider to keep warm. I enjoy it have been going the past 2 years now.

Fairly cool place. One trip is sufficient, however. Its not usually busy. Just stay away during the holiday light show. Way too many people wandering aimlessly in the darkness. EDIT: After visiting several more times, because theres nothing else to do in Lubbock, I stand behind my four star review. This place really is pretty cool. Plenty of neat exhibits and a great gift shop as well. I forgot to mention the BEST PART. Its completely free to get in! Take the family here in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the sweltering heat.

Theres so much history to see and learn about here. Outside, there are real farm buildings filled with time accurate furniture, tools, etc. Inside, there are smaller and more weather sensitive items on display with descriptions as well as written historical information. Related paintings and sculptures can also be found inside. As a historical museum, this is one of the biggest and best Ive ever seen. Everything is extremely well maintained and theres so much to see that it takes a few hours to get though. I really cant believe its free.

It is a nice museum, but be aware that THE OUTSIDE CLOSES AT 4pm; the inside stays open until 5. Now, I know all of yall go there to see the tiny inside portion, but not we, and were disappointed when we got there at a quarter to 4 to find out they close the outside at 4. We are from Oklahoma, so we arent here for a long time, and we were disappointed to find out the real hours. The guy at the desk laughed at us about it.

If you like old ranch buildings this place has them. Everything from the late 1700s to early 1900s. The only thing I wished was that you could go inside them. There arent any you can enter, however, you can look into the majority of the windows and see the inside. Everything is outside on paved paths, we walked around 2.5 miles. Inside there is art exhibits and Indian artifacts. Susan Jones(?) was wonderful she gave us a brief history of the area and some history of one of the artists and his drawings.
