We visited the Heritage Ranch Museum and it was really interesting. Very well laid out and an enjoyable stroll as we went through. They had been closed for 7 months and just reopened last week so it was a good time to visit.
Outstanding. Anyone who visits Lubbock should visit the RHC if you have any interest in American, and Texas history.
Weve been here 4 times and always enjoy ourselves
Oh yeah, if you are interested in rural history (or were raised in 40s or 50s rural America), you need to see Dr. Marian Ann Montgomerys Cotton and Thrift exhibit. In addition, there are other exhibits of dinosaurs and early mammals, Native American art, pottery and textiles, a great collection of Chess sets and some really nice Western art.
Great museum to walk around check out early plains life.
Getting ready for Candlelight at the Ranch! My family loves this place! It is a great experience to what life was like on the plains. I is definitely worth the visit!
I could have happily spent half a day on my own in either the Watkins ceramics or guitar history exhibits, but both were also fun to see with a small group with very different perspectives. We also spent a lot of time in the chess exhibit, including the playable set, which was really fun. Id love to see a YouTube channel about how they develop their exhibits.
Awesome place to visit and experience some of rhe historical buildings and cuatoms of the old west!!! There were 3 families in our group 6 adults and 5 kids!!! Everyone had a great time and would definitely recommend going if you are in Lubbock!!!
A really nice educational place to go visit & learn, hosting unique events in Lubbock Texas !!!
Staff is incredibly helpful, exhibits are not the same old stuff you see everywhere else. Extensive dino exhibit. Didnt have as much time as I wanted to look around but really enjoyed the time I was able to spend. One of the must-dos if youre in Lubbock.
I always enjoy coming here so much to learn about I get so excited I love to learn about the dinosaurs and The Planets. Among other things.
Nice museum lots of history to take in.
I have taken my daughter here a couple of times. I also have visited on my own. I really like the Dinosaur exhibit, it is small but very informative. This museum has much more than natural history exhibits, and appeals to many different interests. I hope the citizens of Lubbock recognize the value of this museum and support it through the forseable future.
Been here quite a few times during my tenure as a Texas Tech graduate student. The museum never disappointed me, in fact, Ive fallen in love over and over again!
It was so much fun to see.
Awesome history and well maintained
The kiddos love coming here! Awesome displays and i loved when they had the stuffed animal room! Great spot!
I really love the art collections of the theme “Americans going West”.
When you first enter the museum the greeter are very nice and smiley. They give you the information you need and let you go gone with your business. Loved it look forward in going again.
Nice museum. Special exhibitions are always good. The perminant stuff is guite interesting though not very focused. Hey but its free yeah.
Very valuable to our community. We are all in this life together, thats what art and museums teach us. We need to live, love each other or we are all going to be extinct.
Love the beautiful sight, nice and family friendly place to walk and check amazing ranches from 18th century.
I dislike that most of the dinosaur displays are resin, and not real bones. The Dino displays have also not changed a whole lot over all in the last 20 years. The weather exhibit was interesting, but felt very cramped in the small room they have it crammed into. The Vampire/Werewolf exhibit was interesting. For a small museum over all they make good use of the space they have. I dont recommend seeing the art installation of the CDs on the floor with the flashing lights. Gave me a serious headache and could probably cause a seizure in someone prone to them.
Good museum in Lubbock. Its free
Very nice, very clean campus, family loved it...
This is a wonderful place to spend a couple of hours with old bones, artwork, and special exhibits. I particularly enjoyed the temporary exhibit on chess. I dont even play chess, but the chess sets from around the world were beautifully made. The N.C. Wyeth paintings made to illustrate childrens books on exhibit made me want to re-read some of those books. Even if he did not consider his work fine art, the illustrations are attractive and thought-provoking. And worth viewing again and again.
It is a good place, good for a one time visit
Ok. Expected way, way more and could have been a lot better. Examples: show us the Barb wire that tamed the west, hats, what chuckwagons were like, etc.
I like to bring out of town guest here to give them a sense of what the area is like, our culture, and people.
Enjoyed the exhibition! No charge entry. Theres some dinosaurs for the kids.
It is always a great deal of fun and very informative to visit The Ranch and Heritage Center at the Texas Tech Museum. If youre a resident of Lubbock or just visiting this is a must-see. Be sure to check for special events like the candlelight tour around the Christmas season its exquisite!
What a wonderful museum. You will need several hours to cover it well. Do not miss the outdoor exhibits of TX history and wonderful display of how the lived. This museum is free to the public. We did not see the planetarium so I cannot comment. The museum has lots of really interesting exhibits. When we visited, several areas were roped off or closed, so we were done in about an hour and fifteen minutes.
Great place to spend a few hours and learn texas history kids loved it
The Museum is not open to the public at this time.
Its always busy and not enough help, and the number one priority is to get the customer on there way to many employees are just standing around talking, need better management.
Always fun, I took my grandkids, exhibit was awesome.
Some areas closed. We loved the chess exhibit!
Great place to bring the kids for free! Highly recommended!
My girlfriend and I went to the museum, and it was a fun way to spend a warm afternoon. Plus the museum is free. The light shows and movies are fun as well, and reasonably priced.
Was only there for a brief moment but found some cool items.
Awesome place so much to see and very well kept!!
Me and my family always have a great family time when we go always something different, I really enjoy going.
Excellent survey of western art ..including Georgia Okeefe. I love the way the museum has honored the American women fiber artists/seamstresses of quilts. My Aunt Opal Bulls Adamson was a seamstress and quilt maker in Lubbock 1930-80’s.
Went there for a talk and everything was professional and set up in an engaging way.
Very nice. Lots of information, and great art.
Recently went to the ranching heritage candle light event and it was amazing. It was so cool In seeing the actors dress up and bring the historical building to life. I’ve also been here on the regular days and it’s so fascinating In learning about the history of each house at the museum!! Def it’s a must. You can also enjoy the inside of museum and they have a lot of cool displays about the Native American Cherokee and the cowboys. Also if you are looking to see the 6666 barn it’s a must!! It’s free to visit but you can also donate a few bucks if you can!! Enjoy!
So many things to learn here about history and art. A must visit for people visitng Lubbock. Will be back here again.
Beautiful tonight for candlelight celebration
I have been here as a child, teen and adult. The last time I was here the had the frescoes there and they were beautiful. I live just across the street from it as well.
I love this place Ive been many times. And an never disappointed
Wonderful place to visit. Many informative exhibits.
Love going here! Always have very interesting exhibits!!
Free and fun! So many different exhibits and activities. Enough to keep the kids busy for half a day. I would bring a stroller and good walking shoes.
We had a great time at the museum and the laser show.
Ive been visiting the TTU Museum since i was a child, and it has yet to lose my interests. I love this place. The staff is very friendly, and they continually have new exhibits annually.
Great museum. My son loves the dinosaur exhibit.
Its free so you cant complain. I enjoyed the fossils and the paintings, especially the mammoth and the Norman Rockwell. My girlfriend liked the red dress exhibit. Next time Im in Lubbock Ill check out the Ranching Heritage Museum
Candlelight At The Ranch is a wonderful tradition that me and my family look forward to each year. Its an experience that is heartwarming plus it teaches the younger generation what life was like back then. Its awesome and I hope this continues for years to come!
Brings you back the that ole western feeling of pilgrimage and adventure. Check out the houses in the back of the museum, but get there early in the day.
Nicely done! Can learn about few topics, but a bit messy in term of path setup.
Amazing to explore and learn from our history with our future leaders, our children. Very nice, clean and informative museum.
Your portrayal of Native American art and the West in general wreaks of colonial undertones. Native American exhibit shows a lack of cultural understanding. Puebloan tribes and other Southwestern peoples such as the Navajo (Dine), are NOT the same and should not be grouped together. They have a conflicted past. Additionally, your display of Lubbock history is shamefully white. There is no mention of the contributions of African Americans or Latino Residents. Lubbock segregation is void from the conversation. This shows in my opinion, poor taste and perpetuates colonial and archaic ideologies. Get with the times.
Was happy to finally see new exhibits.
Always a great museum to visit when you have a fre afternoon!
A must see place in Lubbock, especially if you have kids.
Wonderful if you like history. Very well maintained and clean.
Great place to learn about the areas history. Very clean and the staff are so helpful and happy.
This is one of my favorite places to bring my kids during the summer to cool down. They always have new exhibits and always very clean. The staff is always friendly. The best place to come and cool down from the summer heat and the kids will enjoy the dinosaur exhibit. Mine love it!
Dinosaurs! (and a lot of other fun exhibits).
Good place to learn and enyoy with family and friends
Will open a childs mind into history. A wow factor with so many dinosaurs facts and sets of fossils
Very well done, ..clean, interesting, informative..will go back soon to finish my tour !!I like to read everything therefore Im slow
Great experience. The Ranching Heritage Center was fun
Enjoyed my visit. Watched jazz and had a great time
So much to see and very friendly staff.
Love how they do activities for kids and families to enjoy and learn together. Thank yall!
Well great museum and great staff very nice and amazing artifacts.
Very nice Museum.
Average review for and average park. Lots of long-term and narrow slots. No pool or other amenities. OK for a one night pass through.
This was an incredible museum. Well worth the time to visit it. Plan on spending lots of time
Its pretty dang big and its got a lorlt of different things to do great place to bring you kids go on a date or kind of anything that you want.
It was nice to take my granddaughter and grandson. They really enjoy it.
Always a great place to visit
A great place to go with grandkids!
I enjoyed walking through each of the exhibits at this museum. The pottery and modern art exhibits were particularly interesting. There is also a planetarium that has laser shows. I would recommend visiting this museum.
Dinosaur Day was fun but the tables were under staffed for the large amount of people there. Overall the kids had fun for free.
We always have a good time when we go, I only wish they had the weather exhibit still, it was a favorite for the kids. Another interactive exhibit would be great.
My first time here in FOREVER I LOVE coming here. Kettle Corn was great & Hot CHOCOLATE.
Wonderful place with very high quality stands and expositions. Recommend to every TTU student.
Informative, Educational and so much fun for all the ages!
A wealth of information displayed but unorganized slightly. I would prefer more natural history.3 exhibits are 5 star and 4 were 2 star in my opinion.
Exclent museum with a wide array of unique and changing exhibits. Mostly adult friendly but not there that kids might find to be of interest.
Never had been, born here and enjoyed it very much. Will go back to see the rest of it.
Always such a great place to go by your self or with friends and family. Love this place
Loved the cotton sack and quilt exhibit
Enjoyed this very much. Very interesting exhibits and extensive replicated historical houses other structures. Must be a great place to work as everyone we talked to was very friendly and seemed happy to be there!
Great local history and rotating exhibits. Oh, and dinosaurs!
