Coal Creek is one of the best professionally managed courses in the area starting from the pro shop to your last putt. What I particularly enjoyed was the conditions of the greens. Even in August I was able to stick it!. Just wish more people would take time to repair ball marks. Definitely plan on playing Coal Creek again and highly recommend this interesting layout.

I dont play golf but I come often to the cafe for breakfast. Attractive women abound. From comments Ive heard this golf course is very welcoming of new players and is not full of snobs. The ground are superbly maintained by the city of Louisville Colorado. There are five hotels around the course.

I was in town on business the hotel manager told me that coal Creek golf course was a public golf course. When I came down here it was already 5 o’clock so I wanted to hit a bucket of range balls they wouldn’t let me without being a member!! It’s a public course!! They said due to coronavirus restrictions only members could use the driving range. But I could buy a membership today!! How does that reduce the spread of COVID-19?? If you buy a membership today then you don’t have COVID-19??Everyone should boycott this golf course

I have been PGA member for over 25 years and played quality public and private courses all over the country. Coal Creek is a Colorado gem. Greens are in perfect shape. Fairways excellent, and rough not long but thick so it can cost a shot if you dont catch it clean. Layout is really fun. The first five can beat you up if your not ready to play . I really enjoyed the course and the staff was very friendly. BTW if you go to a nice course like this and all you want to do is rip on the fact that they didnt have a breakfast burrito at 7am? go someplace else.

Golfed there on a November windy freezing day with cart path only rules and still paid $81 for a round, way overpriced! Can you give a discount when I cant drive the cart on the course please!? Or was $81 discounted already???

An exceptionally well-designed and -maintained public 18-hole course with a standard putting green, a very large undulated 9-hole putting green, a chipping green, and a large driving range. A number of ponds, meandering creeks and sand traps create challenges for most club players on nearly every hole. Occasional views of the nearby Rocky Mountains enhance the experience. Club pro David Baril is an excellent and accessible teacher, and the clubhouse restaurant (The Sweet Spot) serves food that is a notch or two above the usual golf course fare in comfortable surroundings.

Golf course itself was good. Kitchen/food is poorly run. They don’t offer any food on the beverage cart. At 7am on a Sunday they had no breakfast food ready, say burritos, egg sandwich, etc. We were given attitude by the cook and restaurant staff and told we could go to McDonald’s down the road. I can’t believe a course that is busy on the weekends doesn’t have a better food set up for the mornings or on the course.

Coal Creek is a fantastic local course that consistently offers affordable greens fees, $36-40 during the fall season. BUT...Im giving the course a 5-star review solely due to the immaculate set of greens (as of 10/30/2018). Perfectly maintained, fast, lots of slope and lots of putts that can break 3-4 feet. ANY of the super-elite private clubs in the Denver metro would be thrilled to have Coal Creeks greens.

This course is tough. Lots of trees and water. There are not too many opportunities to hit your driver unless you are a bullseye. If you download their app you get a free weekday round. The 3rd hole has an unbelievable view of Boulder.

Used an expo coupon for a foursome at the course. Not much of a deal, this time of year(Dec). Finished up the round, course was in ok shape. 2 greens were hard as concrete, we bounced a ball on it like in the parking lot. So I could go 3 stars for the course. But, got into the restaurant after the round at 4pm, sorry we’re closed. The deal included burgers with the round, not so much. Was told only 3 people on the course so we couldn’t keep it open. Not true,I saw at least 10 other people, not including my group. Not only that, but they KNEW I would be in for food, they gave me a copy of the coupon for the burgers. So I have until June to come back in eat 4 burgers by myself since the guys won’t make the 45 minute drive for a burger.Update: Made it in to pick up burgers to go. Hardly worth the effort. Their “cook” put the decent looking patties on the flattop and proceeded to mash every drop of moisture out of the burger. Anyone that even passed a high school culinary arts class, know that is NOT how to cook a burger. Will not return. Management messaged me “why the 1 star? “ This review was my response, never heard a word. No “how can we make it right?” NOTHING. If you play there, hope you have better luck.

Coal Creek is a great course, especially when you consider that its a city course. Since its reopening the course has been maintained extremely well. Tee boxes, fairways and greens are always in great shape. The course itself is varied and challenging with rolling fairways and greens, tough dog-legs and the ever present Coal Creek ready to take ownership of your ball if you stray to far from the center of the fairway. Compared to other similarly priced nearby city courses, Coal Creek is the best around for the price.

I see two reviews here that, to my mind, do not present a fair or accurate picture of the newly reopened golf course. The course was severely damaged by the 2013 flood and had to be virtually rebuilt. In the process, a comprehensive plan to enhance the course was accelerated. All greens were rebuilt and subtle contouring was provided. Although a little slow (although that will improve as the greens can be mower closer) they present a fair but challenging putting experience. Sight lines have been improved with some cart paths and bridges moved out of the line of play. Several decayed cottonwood trees were lost in the flood and a replanting schedule is in place. Scrub has been cleaned up to restore the course to the architects intended vision.Criticism of the fairways and rough is warranted but the fairways will rapidly grow in to a great condition and preferred lies are being played where needed. The secondary rough is excessive (and almost guarantees a lot or unplayable ball)but the greens staff have it in hand.A new and enthusiastic playing and maintenance staff has been hired and they welcome all comments on bringing the course up to perfect condition. Come, play and enjoy.

With the rebuild (due to the 2013 flood), comes a dramatic increase in greens fees, an unsubstantial mining theme that detracts more from the experience (which seems to be what theyre going for here), rather than adding to it. NO CART LADIES/MEN! No black/blue/white/etc tees...theyre now TNT, pick and axe, and other silly mining items.Range balls are also far more expensive than other front range courses...$9 for 60 balls (the largest bucket), versus the standard $9 for 90 balls everywhere else on the front range. The cherry on top is the putt-putt course they installed where the old practice putting green was...you wont believe it until you see it.I grew up on this course. It was the home course for our high school golf team. I hate what theyve done to the place.

Of the nicer public courses across Denver, Coal Creek is a great, unique challenge not offered by many other places. I like how tight a lot of the holes are - big trees are a nice feature Ive become accustomed to not having on a course in Colorado. While I was expecting to have Hwy 36 ruin the holes that face it, I found finishing along Hwy 36 to be a nice, comical reminder that I could be stuck in rush hour traffic instead of on the golf course. The course takes driver out of your hands a LOT. I love hitting my driver and wished there were a few more opportunities to do so. I could see this course being very interesting to play in a scramble with the opportunity to hit driver without such consequences. When I played (7/27/2013), the course was in great shape. Beautiful tee to green and the greens were in great condition. They could have rolled faster, but oh well. I hope it has survived the flood without major damages. Ive walked by the course a few times since the flood and it looks like the holes along the creek were definitely underwater for a while. That being said, The third green (right on the creek) was in good shape and just needed the drift wood removed.

Coal Creek Golf Course was incredibly generous in allowing our family to host a fundraising event a couple of weeks ago in support of our daughter, who suffers from a rare type of kidney disease. The golf pro David was gracious enough to help us plan the event, aid with logistics on the day of, and he and Steven (of The Sweet Spot Cafe) went above and beyond our expectations by donating over $250 worth of gift certificates for our raffle drawing. Our group of about 60 friends and family members were so impressed with the facility, and we were able to raise $1,566 for our daughters cause to benefit NephCure Kidney International. We were so thankful for this opportunity and only hope that we can make it bigger and better for seasons to come!

Played Coal Creek for the first time. The course itself was great. The conditions of the course were 4 to 4.5 stars. However, not too much to think about when making shot decisions which got boring. The reason for 2 star rating is the pace of play. It took 5+ hours to play 18. Apparently, tee times are booked 10 minutes apart which is always a recipe for backups on a weekend. It was difficult to keep a mental focus with constant delays. I would not recommend playing Coal Creek on weekends.

I have played Coal Creek three times this summer and I am highly impressed. Playing two sets of tees provided both a challenging and fair-play experience for myself and my father-in-law. My 12 year old was able to make a day of it from the front tees without having to play over the larger water hazards. I found the tees and fairways lush without requiring to employ the clean and place rule. What was most impressive was the conditions of the greens. Although there are signs of folks not repairing their ball-marks the greens themselves roll very well and no evidence of burn, disease or invasive grasses. The layout of the holes provides a variety of shots off the tee and good decision making if scoring well is your priority. The staff were courteous, golf marshalls helpful and friendly and the food at clubhouse was levels above the typical club-grub.

Played on July 21, 2015. Course is overpriced; you can play for less with far better conditions at Indian Peaks and many other surrounding courses. I was charged $3 for a small cup of take out coffee from the restaurant. Greens are in good condition; fairways need to grow in more. Tee boxes are excellent. But if CC wants to regain players it needs to reduce prices. No reason to return. There is a huge gap between one set of tees at about 6600 yards and the next shortest at about 5750. Whose brilliant idea was this? How about something in-between given that the course was just rebuilt.

Played Coal Creek today for the 1st time since their re-model. I cant fully express how disappointed I am with the quality of the course and the outright terrible service offered by the golf staff. When we called to make a time for today, nobody told us the greens had just been aerated. The green fees were discounted so I let that one go. As we are making the turn, we are told for the 1st time that the back 9 is closed. Nobody gave us that information when we checked in. I would have walked away. I asked for a refund and they offered me a raincheck. After some haggling, I did get half my money back. Now, Coal Creek has lost a customer for life. I will never return to that course and I would encourage others to go somewhere else to play. They dont care about their customers at Coal Creek.

This course is a great course, but ran by the wrong type of management. With the right type of workers, this place could really come to life. A lot o the kitchen staff is extremely rude and pushing you to get out of the place asap for the next customers. These people are all about money and not service. The food could be improved, the kitchen is disgusting and rarely ever cleaned and the girls at the bar just want your money. I was over charged multiple times. Crappy course overall.

Update on 5/2017: The pro (David) at Coal Creek offered us a free round to make up for our very slow round last month. I was not disappointed. Super fast round (4.25 hours), course is in great shape, and the rangers were on it this time. I hope it lasts! But for now, it looks like David is really putting forth the effort, which is so great to see because this course has such a nice layout and is very unique.Update on 4/2017: I gave the course another chance. Big mistake. The course is nicer than before, but the 18 hole round took 5.5 hours to play. We waited on every hole. There was not a ranger to be seen until, get this, the 18th hole! Why was the ranger messing around on the 18th hole instead of getting people on the other holes to play faster? That course is a joke and is overpriced. Avoid it at all costs. This course was closed for 1.5 years after the big flood in Colorado. Before the flood the course was fairly well maintained and had a nice diversity of holes. Pace of play was way too slow for the $65 price tag for 18 holes though. Now the course is unfortunately owned by the city of Louisville. The price for 18 basically has not changed. In fact, its MORE expense in the mornings now. But the course is a disaster. Fairways have crabgrass everywhere, greens are rock hard, and there are hackers everywhere hitting golf balls over your head. Slow pace of play with not a ranger to be found on the course. Its run by the city so what do you expect. Its terrible and maybe worth $45 per round, not $65. Stay away from this once-nice course. The city of Louisville ruined it.

I played 4 times since course reopened 6/28/2015. Greens are firm and rolling fabulously with more undulation than previously adding character not seen in most other courses in the area. There are 78 new tees plus a new larger driving range and 57 new bunkers. Some fairway grow-in is still needed in a few places as damage from the flood on 9/2013 and construction equipment took a toll. There is a local rule through the green which mitigates the minor inconvenience. All new staff in maintenance, pro shop and restaurant (The Mine - good food and service - breakfast and lunch with dinners planned in August) which is a sub-contract to the City. All employees are friendly and helpful learning their new jobs and the new course. New fescue grasses in several places is a major change for many golfers affecting pace of play as golfers look for their ball. Plan is to lower the height of the fescue and thin out in several locations but my view is that it adds character to the course like a few courses in Brighton and elsewhere I have played recently and causes one to focus more on shot selection and direction. Enjoyed the experience and will continue to play here often.

This course is in really bad shape. Played it over the 4th of July weekend and I will not be back. Unfortunately this went from one of the nicest courses in the area to one of the worst.
