I love this place. Arts district staple, easy to walk to and get in usually and good drinks. The games are a lot of fun. It’s a fun place for a date but also not bad to go to by yourself and unwind after a long week. Four stars only because sometimes it’s too packed but on week days it’s perfect.

Once was quite enough for me as Im averse to crowds. A small town girl at heart born and raised in a Big City. With crowd aversion as the only downside, EightyTwo (or the Barcade as its known) has well crafted drinks to offer, a vibrant, attractive and young crowd, and plenty of pinball to offer. It was worth the trouble to go to.

So the first time I visited the EightyTwo was back in 2006 on my first ever visit to Los Angeles. (About the time I caught the California fever and decided I am going to do everything in my power to move here.) What brought us to the Frolic Room of all places. Well the 311 song by the same name of course. I am a HUGE un apologetic 311 super fan and my favorite album is Dont Tread on Me.

Friendly, accepting environment. Loads of 80s arcade games, pinball machines, and great drinks I highly recommend the old fashioned. I was very surprised with this place. They have lots of the classic arcade games and pinball and the games are actually between 25 and 50cents!! They didnt upcharge on the games at all. The drinks are pretty reasonable for prices in LA. Coming here with a roll of quarters was a lot of fun and reminded me of playing in arcades (albeit this one has food and booze). Ill definitely be back here at some point.

The food is generally pretty good here and its kind of tough to mess up the beers. Mixed drinks are hit and miss though depending on whos making it. Have had drinks before that taste extremely watered down or have so much ice in the glasses that after two sips, youre done. Pretty difficult to find a place to sit on Friday and Saturday nights since it is a pretty busy place, but thats a good problem on their end right?

Very cool place with a ton of arcade games. Went with a group of people. There are two separate rooms with games and one is dedicated only to pinball. Nice sized courtyard in the middle. Bartenders were fine, not super nice but fine. Came home to find out I was charged completely different things for the same item on their own drink menu by two different employees but since it was so dark and not itemized I have no idea what was wrong. Or they charged like 4 bucks for a glass of water. Which makes no sense cause it wasnt a bottle. Oh well.

Came for beers and games, was satisfied.Atmosphere is modern, spacious, warehouse. The games are expected to do the heavy lifting in terms of decor. There was a DJ in a dark corner when I was there.Played mostly SF2. Joysticks felt in good shape. Games are cheap and run on quarters. Id like to come back and check out the pinball room; theres an impressive number of machines!Beer selection is above-average and diversified; one of each popular type pretty much.Bar service was adequate. One bartenders response along the lines of were not gamers; people dont usually ask us about games rubbed me the wrong way for some reason. My question was what game do people recommend most. On reflection, that was probably just a true, if slightly dismissive answer. Most people passing through just want to blow a few bucks on Centipede and have a beer. Nothing wrong with that. Honestly, after visiting the 82 website, there was zero poetry about celebrating classic gaming or indeed self-promotion of any kind. This place just wants to be a basic frickin retro barcade. And it succeeds.

This place is the paradise of every child or teenager who lived in the 1990s. Original 80s, 90s, 00s pinball machines all working perfectly. For those who did not grow up in the United States, exchanging notes for coins to play pinball is unprecedented, not having to buy special coins or credit cards, just tossing a 25 cents coin and playing, personally was a dream come true, I felt being teleported to the 90s, I miss what I didnt live.In addition, there is a bar to get drunk, food, DJs on the lounge, all at a fair price, plus a bathroom that is beyond spotless clean, it even gives pleasure to use it; a place very different from what existed in Brazil, where arcades were considered places for outlaws .----Português BREste lugar é o Paraíso de toda criança ou adolescente que viveu nos anos 90.

It could be amazing, but there are some glaring problems.First if all, there are no ATMs inside. Isnt that kinda crazy since you need cash to change into quarters to play?Second, the change machines are ancient and barely functional. Actually, only one of the two worked. It was very slow and there was a line. Id recommend bringing your own quarters if possible.Third, tons of people were smoking inside. There is a center area without a roof, which is really nice, but I had to leave because I kept coughing due to all the smokers.Fourth, later in the evening they started to really blast music. It was really hard to talk, and it isnt like theres a dance floor inside - so whats the point?I dont think this place would survive if it didnt have so much free publicity.
