Came here for the first time with a High school friend back in 2014. Ive been coming back every now and then for more. The surrounding restaurants and stores have such fun experience and charm to them when it comes to checking out Japanese culture. There are security guards that monitor the place to keep things order ly all the time which makes me feel safe.
Lots of fun! Cool to look up the history on the place before you go. Make sure you bring your own cardboard, there isnt any there and they clean it regularly. Put some sand under your cardboard and get ready to FLY down the slide! Hidden little gem!
Always something To do and to see all of the stores and restaurants were very strict about everyone wearing a mask and social distancing the parking is always limited but we get there early to avoid any problems. This is absolutely a place to bring your family even though a lot of the businesses turned into restaurants you still get an overall good experience and there is a lot of history and information that goes along with little Tokyo.
I love this plaza. All the stores and restaurants are fantastic. It only loses one star because of the cleanliness. Inside the restaurants and stores are clean, but the plaza itself is filthy. I wish I was cleaner. It literally feels like a rundown gas station restroom. It would be a better experience if the plaza itself is clean.
So many cute little shops and wonderful food. The staff are very friendly. I love coming here.
This is a biased review. This is the second place I brought my girlfriend and we have come here many times after sharing wonderful memories. This is definitely a romantic place to explore and there is definitely a variety of places to dine at, all rising above each other than the last. RIP Curry House and Galaxy Hot Pot. You are sincerely missed
Great atmosphere but Ive had way better sushi. Dont get me wrong still pretty good. And they have some good lunch specials if youre ever around give them a try for yourself
Just beautiful. I am so grateful that during this time where we have all been quarantined and stuck in the house that they have actually opened their doors to outside dining and some of the little shops have put their products out on the sidewalk. Excellent excellent excellent. I highly recommend you getting out of the house and coming for a visit.
I’ve been coming here ever since I was little. Sadly Lette has permanently closed during COVID. I get shumais from Mitsuru Cafe and groceries from Nijiya.
Nine of us had to have Japanese food at Oomasa at Little Tokyo last week. Every one has to eat out side because of covid. We enjoyed the people and the music. After dinner we bought masks with beautiful fabrics as the vendors outside of their shops. After being alone for so long it was a great afternoon and evening.
Ive been coming here since I went on a field trip my freshman year of high school. Ive brought many friends here over the years. Its one of Los Angeles most charming neighborhoods and a sure place to get some great food and have a good time exploring Japanese culture.
Aesthetic is lovely. Very nice folks. Plenty of places to take your IG photos. Good places to shop and eat. Most places are practicing social distancing efficiently.
I enjoy my visit everytime I come, but there are too many people walking around without a mask, so if youre coming for the first time just be wary. it gets pretty crowded so be warned. Otherwise have fun!
I absolutely love the culture and cluster of history, shops, and eateries here. Please support Little Tokyo, its family-owned establishments and rich culture during this pandemic! Businesses are welcoming and friendly, restaurants are offering take-away and distanced eating options (and the food is as delicious as ever!) Enjoy your time here and bask in the warmth of Little Tokyo.
One can walk through the small elbow-shaped street in 5 minutes. It doesnt demand much attention -- which is good. But for the hungry there are quite a few cozy bars and restaurants, a specialty market and a bakery.
It’s a MUST place to visit while u’re in LA...lots of good food...I ate At Maruya...good service, great staffs and wonderful food there!!! U guys need to check it out!!!! One more thing bout this plaza is be prepared to hv ur money especially ladies who love to shop Coz they for plenty of cute stuff there
Its a great little place to shop or dine. Lots of little shops and restaurants to choose from. My daughter loves it here for the Anime merchandise and the Japanese products they sell in the market.
One of the most iconic and gorgeous places you could find in Los Angeles. You could anything japanese related ranging from foods such as ramen, bento boxes, sushi, japanese treats and much more. You can also find lots of wonderful souvenirs to take home and keep on display or use for everyday life. And the ambiance is always calm any time of day you go.
Nice selection of stores and they had hand sanitizer in each one. One store had a cute selection of shirts and patches! Hard to find bathrooms though, ended up going to a starbucks across the street.
Great place. Lots of real nice shops. The wait lines were sooo long but the shops were worth it!
Great place. Clean and safe. The security does a great job keeping the area safe and clean. Its safe to eat at the restaurants here without worry of being hounded by the homeless.
This areas have very good Japanese restaurants and souvenirs shops. Its a good idea to go on the a week day especially with covid, and it will be a lot less crowded. Very good area too walk around and see what Japan looks like.
I just wish that things were so restricted but there were some stores closed but its cool its a fun place to go and hang out all day food was great too
Small...but picturesque, with a number of memorabilia stores, cafes, and resturants to choose from restaurants. Recommend to check out the surrounding area too...though not officially part of JVP...it still feels like part of it.
My very favorite place for anything Anime this place brings me nostalgia to the best degree I will always love it here and the workers here are very welcoming. Come check it out if youre a fan of anime or just love the Japanese culture Im sure youll love it just as much as I do
Awesome place (parents make sure to take your weeb children here or in general if they watch anime take them)
Its just a nice calm place with lots to do, good food options, variety of stores, and reminds me of my time living in Japan
Amzing to place to go out to eat for sot down meals or fast snacks like parties and sticky buns please try one for me they are so tasty! Also right by some, cool anime shops in the mall there!
Always a fun visit here! Felt very comfortable despite the pandemic. People respect social distancing and wear masks. The restaurant we went to was clean and well organized. Go check it out!
Although it maybe small. Theres many nice things here. Would recommend if youre a tourist.
Love it!!! My boys and I always have a great time at the Japanese Village Plaza!! They always fine what ever they are looking for at a good price. Its a two hour drive for us, but so worth it!! The only downside, no public restroom. Other than that, you will have fun.
This haven in the middle of the largest homeless population in the country is a miracle of God. Much peace can be found at the wishing fountain. The place is incredibly safe to walk through at night too if you ever stranded in this area.
We had great time greatly recommend !! for 11 year Anime Queen is was worth teh drive.
Lots of food and souvenirs shoved into a small area. The security does a good job of preventing the homeless from harassing you.And I am not over exaggerating. They will physically shove themselves in a friends, or your path and block you from walking any further to demand money no matter what you do. Offering money unfortunately makes it worse and you genuinely become concerned over your safety. They are not the passive, chill nomads I see at home that I can hold a conversation with. This is one of the few times where I will say it is warranted to have the security. The stray one or two homeless who calmly keep to themselves are allowed to walk around. Im completely happy that they can go and get a cup of water on a hot day from a food shop and walk around to people watch. Mad respect for the discernment.THAT BEING SAID. There are some tourist price spots but a lot of the food is very reasonably priced for the locals even though its a very popular tourist area. It makes it worth going back repeatedly to try out a new eatery each time I take the 1 hour drive instead of being a one and done destination. Its a lot of (obviously) Japanese style foods, sushi, Ramen, steam bun and curry shops which is more hit than miss in quality. They do a great job of keeping up sanitation in the area. You will know what I mean when you walk less than a block away from the Plaza! Covid has not dampened the business there. Everyone wears masks except when they are eating. The shops all do a fantastic job of making sure customers and employees are safe from the scary germs.Aside from the most minor nitpicks that arent even worth mentioning I say carry on and I hope that the quality and experience remains positive and high.
So cute and so fun to go too! There are so many different and cool things! But that leads to one thing, the stores are pretty expensive. Some stuff is the perfect price others are WAY over priced so watch out for that if u go.
Its a really nice shopping center. Because of covid-19, everything had a long waiting time to get in. I took my daughter to an anime store and we waited for over an hour to get in. Luckily I enjoy spending time with my daughter so it gave us an hour to chat, but if youre looking for a quick stop in shop and leave this is not the time or the place.
This place is a mess during the pandemic on a Saturday. There is no social distancing, the outdoor dining makes less room to do so and no one was 6 feet apart when lining up to get into retailers. There is no one to monitor and control the amount of people who are allowed to enter the village. If you have a fear of contracting covid-19 please be careful. I dont have photos but I did get video footage of how bad it is.
A fun place to visit to learn and experience a bit of Japanese culture
My favorite place in LA actually. When you hear word little in Little Tokyo, you just cant imagine how little it is. But there are grocery stores, bookstore, restaurants, anime stores and a lot more. It wont take long to see everything there, but youll find what to do there!
Boring. Lots of closed stores and a bunch of people in line outside the open stores. Very lame vibe.
Limited people allowed in stores during this phase of reopening, but I love shopping and walking around here
I love it here such a different vibe the bakery are amazing fresh made sweets opens around 11 just dont be here at night not a safe area but in the day time theres always alot of people must pay for parking I go to the all day for 6$ by the grocery store right now it has construction going on it on temple and 1st
I highly recommend it.The food is great!will be back soon
Cute little shops to check out and great food at a reasonable price.
The Japanese village is a cozy cultural location with many shops. Its always enjoyable to come down here.
Very good food options, people are nice, theres always a dog to meet!
Nice place, but no restrooms, only one available was a porta potty and it was half a block away.
Ate at Hibachi Korean BBQ, and the food is tasteful, very kind and quiet place. I enjoyed teriyaki chicken.
YES IT IS OPEN!!! I love anything Japanese & am so grateful for this area opening up so everyone can get out of quarantine for a bit and enjoy an excellent meal outdoors at one of these fine restaurants!
One of my favorite places to go to in los angeles definitely would recommend it post and pre quarantine
I love little Tokyo. Its clean and you get some great food you wouldnt be able to find anywhere else.
Better known as Little Tokyo in Los Angeles, Japanese Village Plaza is the center of the Japanese themed area in Downtown LA. The plaza itself has numerous stores that sells Japanese goods, Japanese food, and even a Japanese supermarket. If youre lucky (or unlucky, depending on your mood), theres usually some sort of gathering of cosplayers in the plaza. Street parking is available, but nearly impossible to find, and nearby structures all charges an arm and a leg. Definitely worth a visit if you can make it here.
Really great plaza with lots of food stops, japanese apparel shops, and import stores! This plaza is connected to a mall nextdoor, too, which houses quite a few toy import shops. Everything is always clean and well taken care of, and there are a few nice places to take photos if youre visiting. :) All the establishments here are doing great with limiting the number of folks allowed inside at any given time because of COVID, but that does mean that the courtyard fills up with people waiting in queues, so its a little crowded (but not a dealbreaker). If you come here, youre guaranteed to have a good time! Be sure to grab some fresh takoyaki and a blueberry matcha latte while youre here; you wont regret it. :)
Lots of variety of foods and must have a mask to go in the market but other wise great hangout place. Parking right next to the plaza too so convenient
Awesome place lots thing to do very good food and a good place to take a date
Been going for years, a great place to visit in Los Angeles. Great bars, food, cultural events, shopping.
Love this place. So many options to eat Ramen, sushi, or Korean BBQ. Parking is cheap and so much to see and do.
Love the place, the restaurants, the stores and shops. However, no public restrooms...wow!
I mochi ice cream and bought Sanrio merchandise. Good visit but doesnt have the greatest parking garages.
Of course I visited during the hottest weekend of the year, but they could seriously provide a bathroom or two, even with Covid going on.
Safe.. Good food... Nice People
Great place to walk around with a date. Almost great food at any restaurant there. Always have an enjoyable time
I love little tokyo and... um I met someone special in the Anime Station last month and well one thing is for sure Im not single anymore no regrets
Many restaurants, outside service. Stores allow 6 people a time. Fun safe way to get out and about in LA
Stopped in at the height of Covid. Everyone was very careful, sanitized and masked. My daughter picked up some great stuff at a surprisingly decent price.
Lots of cute stores and places to eat many different kinds of Japanese food.
Cool place to chill and eat. Too many options
Great food! Fast and friendly service.
YAMAZAKI BAKERY... and Mejia market. Its like a mini vacation. JPV, all day awesome!
So many things to do and its so calm and fun to walk around for a couple hours. A lot of places to eat and just window shop. I go here as much as I can its pretty fun to go with friends or family.
A good place to go smoke a joint, eat, and maybe but a cool shirt or hat
Fun place to go with friends and family a bunch of things to see there.
I stopped by taking out sushis from Kura. The waitress was ki d and the food was good also.
Very nice great sushi they even have clothes the market was really nice five stars
Beautiful small plaza. Traditional modern take on Little Tokyo. Nice little shops and ice cream stores
So much to see! Love this place! All the stores and the food is soooo good! There is no validation but the parking is plentiful and easy to find. Don’t forget to check out the 2nd floor a there’s a game room, karaoke and other stores! Just be prepared to wait for dinner. But you will find tons of places to eat!
Enter this place and you will feel yourself like you are in Japan! Decoration is adorable and the tiny streets just feels like Japan.Lots of restaurants here with sushi, ramen but also souvenir and gift shops with all typical Japanese stuff.Lovely visit!
A nice place to relax and get coffee, or alternatively hang out and eat food with friends and family.
I love how it has so many Japanese style shops, boutiques, and places to eat!
I really nice & clean plaza with lots of Asian style stores and restaurants! We came here on a Saturday and it was a really nice time. This plaza is very clean and no homeless walking around like you will find in other parts of LA. There are many Asian stores to buy clothes, hello Kitty, and food. The restaurants are also really delicious but on a weekend you might wait a while. There are many places to sit in the shade and people watch. I enjoy coming here, it doesnt feel like your in downtown LA!
So many things we love about it . Frist the food the small shops and atmosphere. Its our little Japan without going there.
Very easy outdoor dining. Many good and dessert options.
Had a covid experience if you know what I mean
Really cool place to check out. Lots of good food and plenty of stuff to see.
Gorgeous as always. Felt safe with everyone maintenance social distancing and was very respectful.
Is amazing place, gud good and Nice stores
Fun plaza with lots of different stores/shops! Clothing stores, ice cream/boba shops, restaurants, markets, bakeries, etc.
Fun place to visit, Japanese culture, food, drinks and anime if you like it. Twinkle brown sugar has some great boba tea!
