I just parked by the merry-go-round which is closed right now. We went for an incredible hike. It was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving so it was really uncrowded. I loved all of the different trail options and the views were spectacular!

San Francisco and the Peninsula. This place has tons of activities to keep little ones busy, from bouncy houses to tractor and train rides, to pony rides. Definitely a great day trip to wear the kids out. This is also a pretty great spot if you want to have a birthday party or for a group, because you can rent out some of the bouncy houses on-site for a private party.

We bought a Groupon $25 for 2 adults and 2 kids. Great deal if you have 2 kids since its $15 for kids and $5 for adults for unlimited rides. Was fun for our kids, hayride, cute train ride through a ghost town, pony rides and bouncy houses. Great fun for a few hours and boy were they zonked after!

Easy breezy way to spend the day. Hike around some of the trails, check out the old zoo. Enjoy a picnic in the shady park. Carousel must be a landmark, it works but I dont think paint has ever been retouched, but I dig the old creepy vibe. Also has small snack bar and nearby restrooms.

Historic old-fashioned merry-go-round hidden in Griffith Park. There is a spooky Spreckles organ that plays hauntingly enchanting music. The future in distance you get from the carousel, the spookier the music seems. There is a nice little history, Walt Disney used to bring his daughter here and, apparently, dreamt about opening Disneyland while sitting at one of the benches. The merry-go-round appears to be all original. There is actual horsehair used for the tails. Although it may be in need of a re-painting soon.Rides are only $2 and there is a refreshment stand. Worth a visit whether you plan to ride it or not.

A charming, quirky gem in Griffith Park, this early 1900s merry-go-round is a great attraction. The organ blasts out that familiarly creepy, haunting playground music... Enticing and horrifying all at once. And the varying state of decay of the horses adds authenticity to the ride while helping to continue the unintentional, mild horror aesthetic. At two dollars per ride, can you really afford not to take the plunge? To experience one of the thrills of yesteryear - to put your life in the hands of century old engineering? It is both a pleasure and a terror. Great fun.

I was surprised just how long this hike was up to the iconic Hollywood sign. The trail is paved in spots and while not difficult, it was much farther than I expected to reach the sign. Be prepared by wearing comfortable shoes and bringing a water bottle. I walked it on a Friday afternoon and it was not crowded at all. Easily 75% of the people I encountered were locals out exercising. Once you are up to the sign a tall chain fence makes pictures a little difficult but still worth the climb. A friend who lives locally told me that the sign is protected by numerous cameras that assure no one gets any ideas to jump the fence and get too close. On the advice of locals, I took N Beachwood Dr up to some limited parking and happened to find a spot without a problem. Its not well marked and I think the locals like it that way.

Not many people realize that they have this free, great resource in LA. And there is more to it than just the great views from the Observatory. There are many miles of hiking trails, where you can forget that you are in the middle of a huge metropolis (until you get to the top of a ridge). A hike to the top of Mount Hollywood gives 360 degree views of the city, and is worth the effort getting there.

I did not know the merry go round at Griffith Park is privately owned and still operating...it has a rich history of its extistance . From being built in New York, then coming to San Diego for the first few years in 1926 for the Worlds Fairs and moving to Griffith Park in 1936 where it has been ever since. So go on a Saturday or Sunday and keep this Los Angeles icon going! You will be glad you did #hiddengems #losangeles

The merry go round is so nostalgic and I instantly think of all the movies Ive ever seen with one. The ride is 2.50 a person not bad considering its LA. This one is a quicker pace than Im used to but fun all the same. The music can be a little loud for little ones but if they can get past it they will enjoy the ride. Parking is above the merry go round and you walk down just a bit. There are light snacks like pretzels to enjoy.

Its one of many great places in Griffith Park and has historic significance. It was built in the 1920s, its been there since the 1930s, Walt Disney once sat on a bench there while watching his daughters ride when he first dreamed up the idea of Disneyland (bench now on display in Disneyland Main Street Opera House lobby). The Merry-go-round is open every weekend and expands to daily during the summer time. Hours are 11am to 5 pm. Its only $3 a ride.

There are many miles of hiking trails, where you can forget that you are in the middle of a huge metropolis (until you get to the top of a ridge). A hike to the top of Mount Hollywood gives 360 degree views of the city, and is worth the effort getting there. However, there is much more to the park. Travel Town Rail Museum houses vintage and antique trains, in addition to having a small scale raildroad circling the area. Next door, the LA Live Steamers takes Walt Disneys love of trains to the public. In addition to the Carolwood Barn, where Walt worked on his trains, there is an extensive layout of model trains large enough to ride in. The LA Zoo is also in Griffith Park, along with the Gene Autry Musuem of Western Heritage. The Merry Go Round is still located near the ranger station, and is credited with giving Walt Disney the idea for a theme park. There are play areas, BBQ pits, and even a pony ride area (with yet ANOTHER miniature train). And the trails! Miles and miles of trails!
