Last week, my friends and I went to this cinema house. We loved how cozy and comfortable their chairs are. The screen was massive, and the sound doesnt hurt your ears. The snacks that can be bought here tasted good. Especially, their salted caramel popcorn was heavenly. We enjoyed the movie and the snacks.
What a fantastic experience. We went for a recent Halloween special. They were playing Freddie Kruger and we got an exclusive spooky tour to discover the interiors of the theater, including behind the screen and basement. It was amazing! Love this theater, reminds me a lot to the Ace Theater Hotel. Granted, the chair are not comfortable but I dont care if you are looking for a unique experience beyond the high end comfort. I dont cry very much. I would give you the back story, but its so boring Im afraid you might fall asleep. Last night, I saw Dreamgirls at the Million Dollar Theater. My goodness, there is a scene in the middle where Jennifer Hudson sings a song about being kicked out of the band. I sat there stoically, trying to hide back tears. Men shouldnt cry, right? Thats what Ive been taught.
Built in 1917, the theatre was designed in an exquisite Californian Churrigueresque style by noted Los Angeles architect Albert C. Martin. It was the first movie palace built by famed Hollywood entrepreneur Sid Grauman, who also founded Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and the Egyptian Theatre. In the 50’s, the theatre became an epicenter of Spanish language entertainment in the country. Today it is one of the last surviving grand movie palaces from the turn of the century left is Los Angeles.
Its a beautiful theater. I have wonderful memories of live music, accoustics and atmosphere being magical.
The theater is lovely. Looks well kept and appears spacious. Had a great time on 01/31 for Mexican comedy show. Thanks!
One word to describe this theater; Vintage. Awesome architecture design. Built in 1917
This is a very cool very historic location in downtown los angeles. I was there for work so I got to explore around a little bit. Definately creepy, possibly haunted. Beautifully ornate decoration in the theatre. They are doing an October screenings of scary movies on Friday, Saturday and Sundays. Definately a cool place to see a scary movie.
Since 1917 the million dollar theater has screened movies and was the first silent movie theater Ive had the best memories here love this place.
Ladies room has only 4 stalls, of which only 3 were unlocked for use. On a special night as yesterday to a soldout event of close to 2,000 seats it is unbelievable on the logistics of accomodations to our Basic needs. Most of the ladies from our group had to go next door to the Grand Central Market . Its a shame for such a beautiful place. During the show at times I felt like smoke was causing me to cough. I hope someone can save this historical theater and bring it back to its real beauty and maybe improve the bathroom situation. On another note, I am grateful for all the volunteers for the hard work hosting the Last Remaining Seats double feature The Bitter Stems and later on The Maltese Falcon.
Super cool theater. Very old and ornate.
Beautiful main theater. This is an architectural treasure. However, the seats are crammed too close together. In a theater that seats 2000 the mens room had 3 urinals and 2 stalls. The womens accommodations must have been as skimpy, because the line was at least 50 people long. The sound system was terrible which could have been the fault of the films we watched: The Maltese Falcon and a Bugs Bunny cartoon. We had a great time. The place needs another half mil to finish off the restoration to make the Million Dollar Theater a first class destination.
Just walking with both the building and the Bradbury.
Wonderful venue, wish more events went on in is historic LA theater
Super cool old theatre. Serious musty smell.
Beautiful building, friendly staff and conveniently located next to one of the best food destinations in Los Angeles
Gorgeous theater. Make your way inside when its open.
Needs a remodel!! Restoring it would be wise of the new owners.
Just left the Questlove Mixtape Potluck book signing....Classic Dude. Classic Theater
It’s 50’s Prom Night and GREASE is the word at the historic Million Dollar Theatre downtown ... A lot of fun!
Went with my family to watch Grease and have a spectacular time!
Beautiful restored theatre, fabulous venue for classic films
One of the gems on Broadway. On the last Saturday of every January there is an open Broadway night where you can visit all the theaters. I suggest buying a wristband for the event so you dont have to wait in long lines
Went here as a kid and like most things, it isnt as big as I remember it! But it was nice to see it again. The seats are not that comfortable. The beauty of this place is in its architecture of course. In its day it was the place to go, my Mom use to say. It is worth driving by to see an historic building.
Its small and confy
Great venue, saw Bernie Sanders so rating might reflect that.
It was nice to go and see the million dollar theater, it’s been years and finally went like it .
Beautiful theatre that still holds its vintage charm and magic from the era of classic Hollywood.
I am. The person who remodeled the teathe because when we lease. The teathe it was painted on gray color and damage .my boss ROBERT VOSKANIAN ARMED AGHADIA SIMOMSIMONIAN.
Came here for a free screening of the chef with special appearance by Roy Choi and John Favreau, director of Ironman! Great movie but the theatre did not live up to my dtla-hidden-gem-expectation.The theatre looked fancy with its European architecture decor inside. Located right next to Grand Central park. They were OK with us bringing in food.Parking isnt easy unless you pay.All the seats are so close together i didnt have much leg room (51). Tall people will definitely suffer. Luckily we sat in the front where the rails were so we got to stick our legs out while I bump into someones knee everytime I leaned back.Another disappointing thing is that theres only one bathroom. They have a lot of space to accommodate hundreds of people inside but theres only one bathroom for ladies which is located on the second floor. I saw the line grow all the way into the theatre.
One of a few remaining grand old movie...vaudeville houses. Only open for special occasions. Must see it when open on special occasions.
So beautiful ... You have to see it!
