Beautiful venue in Downtown LA. This venue is very near to Walt Disney Concert Hall and beautiful Grand Park. If you plan to visit this place then I recommend using LA Metro. Get down at Civic Center Metro Station and this is just 7 minutes walk to this place. This venue is so clean and well decorated. A must place to visit in Los Angeles.

Its biggest downside is that it sits right next to the Walt Disney Hall. Jokes aside, its a nice venue, Ive been there a couple of times and thoroughly enjoyed the events but its somewhat older and the ambience and acoustics are nowhere near its neighbor. Still though a nice venue and obviously, you go more for the event rather than the place itself.

A weeknight at the opera. Outside Renovations have provided a source of rereshment [pricey] and social gathering. Place for selfies with show reference. The forth tier looks like a bit of a nosebleed. Bring your binoculars. Second tier is perfect to see both stage and subtitles. Nice bars inside include a little food and pre/post show talks are a delight.Rush hour traffic makes getting there a long chore. Will try public transportation next time.

I attended a birthday party at the banquet hall in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. It is on the fifth floor. Wonderful views of the city great food and an amazing place to have a party. Since the Dorothy Chandler is the home of Los Angeles opera the host the party made arrangements for some opera singers to share their talents with us.I felt it was a great honor to spend time and share the birthday at one of Los Angeles’s premier entertainment locations.

Located atop Bunker Hill in Downtown Los Angeles, the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion is LAs Opera House. It is a large, acoustically good auditorium. It is located on a wide plaza co-located with the Mark Taper Forum and the Ahmanson Theater. All three buildings are lovely and the plaza has a fountain, sculpture, outdoor seating for drinks and food and fantastic views of Downtown Los Angeles.Even if you dont attend a performance at one of the theaters, it is well worth a visit. It is totally free to walk around and enjoy yourself.

This venue was great. The seats were comfortable and close enough to see the entire stage from left to right. The stage was big and decorated beautifully. The performance was different than your classical ballet. The ballet show Jewels was more artsy and abstract. The orchestra was easy on the ears, not too loud, not too low but just right. The performers were very talented and skilled. The venue let you know when to go for a break and rang a bell to advise you to get back inside. They had sandwiches, sodas, water, alcoholic beverages, and snacks to buy if youre hungry. The bathrooms were clean. The staff kept everyone in check with the lines and the timing of the performance. Overall great experience. I highly recommend it.P.S. If you are hungry afterwards go around the corner to Kendalls restaurant. They are open late and serve food and beverages. A bit pricey but good food.

Music as expected was fantastic. One drawback the more affordable ticket which are all the way to the top (about 70$ each) get you a reasonable comfortable chair though with little space for the legs, and be warn the distance will make you miss the small details. All in all it was a great experience and Im looking forward to get there again.

2 stars for the poor service. The service attendants here match the carpet. Tired, lackluster and sorry. I attended a performance and per the ticket there was to be no late seating. With this in mind, my group and I arrived very early. As this was all of our first time attending a performance at this venue. The venue its self has a historic charm. However the carpet needs some TLC. Going back to the poor service, in the middle of the performance I began to cough and wasnt able to stop. So I kindly excused myself and walked outside to get some water. I was then greeted by two workers whose uniforms were 2 sizes too big. I was asked if I was leaving, I replied no, I walked out cause I cant stop coughing. I was then told I could not return to my seat because the performance was still in progress. My seat was in nose bleed balcony section. Anyone walking or doing jumping jacks would have not interrupted the performance. It was dark and the view from my seat, gives you a clear shot at the top of the dancers head. Needless to say, because I was courteous of others and walked out. I wasted money on a ticket, because I wasnt allowed back to my isle seat in the nose bleed section.I also forgot to mention. If you purchase balcony seats, beware. The seats are so close and tight. There is absolutely no leg room. I would compare the leg room to a seat on Spirit Airlines.

When visiting LA, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion offers the most exciting opportunity to experience classical music at its best. This week I flew from Portland, Oregon to attend the LA Opera performance of La Bohéme by Puccini. Although, regrettably, the scenery had some obvious flaws, the music was truly marvelous. The LA Opera brings a great value, at $49 per ticket in Balcony B.

The seats in the Chandler Pavilion are set too tight; they leave the audience packed together as if the designers thought they were hired to create human-sized sardine cans rather than a theatre where anyone who is not a size small are supposed to sit. We were here for the Joni Mitchell 75th birthday celebration in Nov 2018. The person sitting next to my left was a large woman, the person sitting on my other side a tall, large man. Neither of these people were abnormally large, but for the entire duration of the 2-1/2 hour concert, I could barely move, my shoulders squeezed together as if I were at Disneyland on New Years Eve. It was uncomfortable and claustrophobic. The sound, too, was less than desirable: I found it both loud but muffled. If theaters want to keep their audiences, they need to do much better than this in designing or redesigning them. While movie theatres are going in the exact opposite direction, designing seating that is more and more comfortable, live theatre venues are doing the exact reverse. If live theatre wants to keep audiences willing to pay stiff box office prices to come sit for over two hours ( most movies run less than concerts and plays ) they are going to have to do much better than this. The theatre does now allow drinks into the auditorium, which are all in plastic containers to avoid clanging glass noises as people inevitably knock over their beers and cocktails, but they still do make noise. I personally feel frustrated that live theatres still cry poor as an excuse to leave their audiences in miserable seating conditions. Get your thumbs out of your mouths, theatre owners, and start designing theatre seating for contemporary audiences.

A beautiful, large theater that hosts dance, opera and theater. Best to get seats in the orchestra section, if budget allows. Every Christmas Eve, they host an annual Holiday Celebration. It features some of the best of Los Angeles dance, music, and singing community. It is entirely free. Line ups happen early for those who want to sit in the front, but they keep those entertained by stroller singers. They also give free parking in their lot on Christmas Eve - for those who are coming to see the show. For those who line up too late and the seats are already full, you can watch it outdoors on the big screen. This is a holiday tradition that makes me thankful for living in Los Angeles.

We have been to the Dorothy Chandler on many occasions: Opera, ballet, old movie nights. Parking is easy. If you arrive close to curtain, you may have to walk a good distance, since the parking is also extended under Grand Park. My suggestion is to come early, grab a drink on the large patio area and enjoy the fountain and people watching. Sitting in the orchestra section is, of course, perfect. I would suggest row M plus or minus. You will be level with the stage and far enough away to take in the entire show. The balconies are a little tricky if you are old. We take 90 yr. old mom to the opera and the stairs are very steep with intermittent handrails. The view is good though! The restroom on the upper floors are good. You have to be good with stairs to use the one below the first floor. A word to those older patrons or those in a wheelchair. Enjoy the show!

Also if youre seeing a show with interactions happening in the back corners of the stage (like shen yun) then you may want to be at least three seats in from the sides of the room to get a good view.
