This place is amazing! I like that the main lake is accessible to the public, and you dont have to pay for it to enjoy a part of this area is rich history. I then went inside and bought a general admission ticket to check out the museum! Absolutely stunning. Its just absolutely amazing how many animals they found in such a close proximity. Reading about all of the history of the area was fascinating. They maintain the facilities perfectly clean and everything is very modern and up to date. All of the employees I talk to there were really nice.
Oh well laid-out and thought-out Museum. The exhibits are well displayed and educational. Really great way for kids to learn about the ice age. It also is captivating for adults. A very historical site. I really like the lab where you can see real scientists processing the fossils.
Visited here back in 2018. Really enjoyed our experience there. I’ve seen this place in the movies a few times so thought it was really neat to actually be there in person. Very crowded, but other than that, definitely enjoyed my time there.
Situated in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles, La Brea Tar Pits is a unique and highly interesting attraction that allows visitors the chance to witness live excavations of fossils while learning about the process involved. The 40,000-year-old fossils found in the tar pits were formed when animals passing through the area were trapped in oil seeping from the rock.At the on-site museum, you’ll see the process of rebuilding skeletons for display, reconstructed fossils of various animals – including sabre-toothed tigers and mammoths – and an outdoor exhibit of extinct animal replicas.
Its been SO LONG. My grandparents lived in Pasadena some years back. When we visited the grandparents, they would want to entertain us. This was one of those places that is unique. I dont know of any other place like this anywhere. This is cool, I will need to go back at some point.
This place is a great place every school should go to! You could see the indoor and outdoor exhibits. This place is a place where you learn about tar and science. This museum is awesome.
Fantastic active dig site and research area for ice age animals. Super interesting information about the animals and environment and location. Entrance fee (~$15 adults) comes with guided tours and museum. Two different add on movies available for $5. Very kid friendly. Great outdoor area to have a picnic and let the kids run around.
Hidden, but obvious gem in Los Angeles. Love the interaction with volunteers and encouragement to touch displays. Love on site lab and surrounding outdoor grounds are lovely. Kid friendly and so educational, excellent exhibits. Great gift shop and youll definitely keep your camera on continuous use.
We enjoyed our visit at the The La Brea Tar Pits and Museum. Although it was smaller that I thought we still enjoyed taking photos. The good thing about it is that they have markers where you should take the photos to get the best angles. They also have tripods for rent! Its worth the visit!
BEST CLEANERS EVER!!! Fernando and his mom have the most INCREDIBLE customer service and superb quality! My girlfriend and I have needed things to be cleaned next day and they ALWAYS saved us and come through for us!
We enjoyed wondering around the park looking for the new tar pits. Sad that the museum was closed but it was still good to be outside and learn a bit.
Lots of fossils and great explanations which give context to the science, paleontology, and methods used to collect and analyze the remains. The open lab, showing volunteers cleaning and preparing specimens gave a good view into the processing and documentation of the fossil samples. A fascinating glimpse into life in California before humankind were part of the North American environment. Sloths, mammoths, mastodons, saber tooth cats, dire wolves, vultures, condors. So much to see.
Great place to visit. The pits do smell like oil. The sabre tooth tiger has great skeletons and replica. The movie was worth the price. Visit the museum and take the guided tour.
Wonderful array of prehistoric life from the Pleistocene Era in Los Angeles, traveling through the museum grounds always brings a bit of childhood nostalgia to me. Rolling on the grass hills alongside the museum is probably the best way one could have simple fun on a nice summers day! Plus, the exhibitions are very interactive, lively, and informational. Great for families and the little ones.
Admission is not free, it’s $15 USD for one adult. It’s a much smaller museum than I expected. It reminds me of a museum that I would go on a field trip in grade school.Lots of animals and fossils and fun facts and animated videos. I wouldn’t go again though. If you’re into museums, you’d enjoy it more than I did.
If youre interested in Natural History or related fields, this is one of the places you should check out. Its a great place for kids and adults to visit to learn more about the different kinds of ancient animals found in the famous tar pits. You can also see the professionals at work inside the museum, and the ongoing dig in one of the pits. The pits and the park around the museum is accessible to the public with no entrance fee needed while the entrance fee for the museum is reasonably-priced as well.
I loved this place as a child so much that I had to come back as an adult. It is still just as impressive if not more so. The history of animal life in North America and the richness of the finds here are fascinating.
Awesome place to come and bring kids, or if you have childhood memories from this museum. Its not expensive at all. The museum itself is very short. Theres a short film inside you can watch for a fee. Outside the museum there are many tar pits and even new ones that have been getting excavated where they have found more fossils.
Had a day to choose something to do. Took a Lyft to the LaBrea Tar Pits. I lived near here in the early 80’s, and used to enjoy walking the grounds. It was very cool to revisit the museum and although I would love to see it get a face lift; the museum still has a lot to offer. Such a wonderful spot of history and interest. Today, more than ever, it is important to understand the history of the places we inhabit and to imagine the world as it was years ago. The staff was all very friendly and I hope you take the time to visit this little spot of history in the middle of a bustling city!
A pleasant surprise to stumble upon the La Brea Tar Pits and Museum. We saw the colorful Second Home Serpentine Pavilion as we were driving by and made the stop. Lots of fun and creative arts on display, as well as the famous tar pits.
Definitely appreciate you bring your children for some history and views. Lots of things to see and learn. It is very educational and you can learn a lot.The tar pits smell but its a great site to see. The scenery and the parks are amazing. If you have children this is a great place to come they will love it!
We had a great time here on a sunny Sunday morning this summer. We had a leisurely walk through the park, visiting all the tar pits and open air displays. The museum was also pretty good, quite different from the usual stuff. They had staff who would let us touch and feel a lot fossil replicas and talk about it in detail. It was also exciting to see volunteers cleaning stuff they had dug up from the pits. Kids thought it was fun.
It was my first time coming here and I really liked my experience. For LA residents, on certain days, its free from 3pm to 5pm, and I would actually suggest coming on those times. You can do everything here within the span of two hours. I was surprised that they have really nice items in their giftshops, and they even have 3d films! The museum itself is rather small, but it goes by rather quick. Theres also lots of nice spots to explore on the outside, and its cool how its also connected to some outside spots for LACMA. I enjoyed my time here and I definitely want to return on the weekend and they have certain things only playing Friday, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Great place to go on free for all weekend. Had a nice visit with my son and saw lots and learned quite a bit from the placards and the staff themselves. Some hands on activities for the little ones was cool and kept them busy. It started raining when we went so some of the exhibits were closed. The observation pit was closed as well so it made the entire trip through the museum very fast in my opinion even with a ton of people passing through the place. I had a great time but it felt like a one time attraction but I feel like I need to go back and really see it all on a dryer day. The wolf exhibit was truly amazing, so may skulls.
If you would like to know how tar pits killed mammals this is the best museum I have ever been where you can easily learn everything about tar pits. This is usually for kids but the truth is that it does not matter how old you are, you will find lot of fun and facts that you would think about our history.
This was a really great experience for learning and culture. To stand at ground zero of where ice age animals lived. The educators were very knowledgeable and passionate about their work. It’s a very hand on interactive museum great for kids and families. A lot of the help to clean the fossils are done by volunteers. Project 23 is there current project since 2006 and to see them work is a sight to see.
Even though the museum is closed you can walk around the park. The Lake Pit is an awesome sight. The bubbling and popping sounds that emit from the lake are super cool.
Amazing place! Must see the ice age fossils and learn more about conservation and the fossils themselves. The fossil lab is very cool and their workers work in front of you in the museum. Definitely need to go earlier next time to do more of their tours! This place is great for kids since many of their plaques of recon figures tell you to touch and feel yourself, unlike many other museums.
A bit small but it was super cool to see the tar pit! Tar pits were in the park for free, but the museum explained it and why so many fossils are found in them. My kids, 8 and 11, loved the area were they had paleontologist with pieces of bone. One of them talked to us a little bit through the glass pointing at things to try and show us what was going on. Super cool.
Its has been awhile since Ive paid a visit here. I have plently of memories of my youth in this site, hopefully when its all over. Whenever society normalizes, Ill built more memories either a solo trip or with loved ones.
Probably first heard about this place when I was a kid, and finally got to visit! Situated on a couple blocks within a busy city center, but super easy to access and a great way to spend a few hours outside on a beautiful day. The pits are amazing and people seem grateful for the work that goes on here. The museum is easy to navigate and full of information about the past. Walking the grounds and viewing the pits is free, but museum requires admission (although nominal).
I love Museum, especially Museum about nature. This is one is one of my favourite museum, we can learn how those animals gone forever, etc. They have short movies too, and explanation of some animals that scheduled on the map and event paper. Its a good place for family to bring their kids.
This is an awesome museum. We bought 2 student tickets online for $10 each and got to go through an Express line to redeem them once we arrived. Do plan on walking a lot if you go around the museum and on a tour. So wear comfy shoes. Parking for us was $16.50 during our stay at the museum. Very expensive. The outside grassy patio area is GORGEOUS.
Fantastic museum and park. Plan to spend a few hours here to learn about the pits and the animal fossils that have been discovered there. There are numerous free guided tours that will add to your experience.
An absolutely amazing experience. The museum is very nice with captivating displays and installations. You really learn a lot and is very interactive. Walking the grounds is nice and you can see live digs and real tar pits. There is a parking lot and plenty of street parking. The staff is really friendly and helpful.
We so enjoyed this place!! Bucket list loved it. Gift shop super kids stuff nothing with any meat in it for adults. Museum was 100% and amazing. Tar pit 21 dont miss. Gem of a spot hidden down town.
An unusual and important attraction to visit in Los Angeles. It’s unique and unusual to find tar pits in an urban setting where it’s actively worked on by researchers. In addition to the admission fee, you can also purchase tickets to a couple of different short movies they offer in their theatre. It’s a large site, you can wander around certain parts of it for free.
It was a very informative and fun trip. Kids liked every site.Dont miss the 4D movie, enjoyable.A family-friendly place with informative corners. Staff is friendly and helpful. They let my kids touch the skull of a Sabretooth.
Its a great museum, but those who work there arent guest services oriented.Today, a person who sat in the garden to rest, even after being told that it was a heart patient who had just been discharged, was harrassed by an employee/volunteer.When the wrong people are employed, it ruins it for everyone.Other than the guest services issues, its a very unique experience only to be had at La Brea Tar Pits.Make it a day. Go to LACMA as well
Absolutely fascinating! Extremely interesting, educational and beautifully displayed. Im going back for my third visit soon as its safe to do so. My favorite is the Giant Sloth, I cant believe they lived here, in my back yard with Saber Tooth Tigers.
Visiting the La Brea Tar Pits was one of our favorite destinations. It was such a unique and fascinating place. It is specially was very exciting to see scientists at work inside the museum cleaning the fossils that had recently been found at their active hit, which was actually on the property and you could go and see it. Great historical site with lots of fascinating information and also interesting to see them doing excavations as well.
A great spot to take the family if you have never been. Very fun, educational, interactive, and definitely a good time. The only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is because it is not an all day experience--at most 2 or 3 hours--so make sure you have other activities planned if you are planning a full outing.
A remarkable natural formation in Los Angeles. I think everyone should come to visit at least once, especially if you live in the area. Besides the museum, there is a nice park where you can sit and enjoy a picnic, or read a book, etc.
Its a really interesting and obviously historical place. Its even better when it is free admission (museum side, the park is free for you to wander) on the first Tuesday of the month! They have free tours regarding the excavation sites. A good place for when your 4yo asks to see bones. Would definitely come back!
I was driven around as a compliment of a friend .
Lots of great fossils and natural history in the area. I learned about this when I was in elementary school around 20 years ago. The museum costs $15 for adults, but it’s worth it. Definitely do the tar pull! If you’re pressed for time or money, you can skip out on the museum and still have a great time walking around the park.
Is a perfect place to take your kids for a fun trip.Bag a lunch enjoy a couple hours of fun .A lot to see a lot to do
Well worth a visit. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. I would recommend seeing the Titans of the Ice Age at the beginning of your visit... good background to appreciate the museum and grounds all the more. Good amount to see and learn both inside the museum and the various tar pits/project sites outside. Good for all ages.
We went on a class field trip and I was a chaperone. It was an awesome experience. We looked into an actual dig they are working on. Also getting to see the lab and the ladies working in there was fascinating.
That place is free to visit if you stay outside the muesum, so you can see all of the tar pits and see people actually actively excavating from the tar for free. If you want to go in the muesum (which I would advise) you will get to see many skeletons that came from the tar pits outside! Its amazing to see what they have dug up from the tar!!
This was a great place to visit with family. We went early afternoon. I would recommend going earlier in the day to do the tours. We were able to find street parking, but there is a parking lot connected to the museum plus a few other lots nearby. The museum is very informative. It is also very child friendly, most exhibits allow kids to touch the replica fossils, or have interactive parts.
Popular place for kids, Museum is not big, has nice outside view.
Outdoor and indoor museum that is truly its own. The tar pits really are active at some sites and they even have an active dig site for people to see. Just be prepared for the smell (but you get nose blind to it after a few minutes). The scientist working on the pits have a window for viewers and a presentation. The artifacts are amazing and really make you think about what life was like in the Ice Age. Also the art museum is amazing and detailed. Also, check out the gift shop. Its worth it!
Enjoyed Last Brea Tar Pits museum and park. The museum itself is small. Despite the repeated statements of 6 million fossils being found there, they dont have nearly as much as I expected on display. We watched a show, which was definitely geared towards smaller children, although it was informative about the pits, how they formed and how the fossils are found. The wall of Dire Wolf skulls is pretty awesome to see. Walking the grounds you can see people actually at work on fossils from the tar pits. Seemed everyone there was working on super tiny fossilized bones or teeth. The grounds are free to walk around, but an admission fee is charged when you enter the museum building. Shows (there are currently two running) are an extra $5 per person. On a side note, the staff at the central desk and at a side desk seemed aloof when we had an issue and we never did receive any help despite being told someone was on their way. Still awaiting a response to my email to them concerning this. Disappointing in that regard.
My husband and I loved coming back, since we both havent been since young being young children. Such a unique place I love how immersive many if the exhibits are, many allow touch and encourage active learning in kids which I great. I highly recommend it if youre from LA but have never been, or even if visiting town.
Such a cool and interesting place. Would recommend watching the Titans of the Ive age movie and taking the guided tour. The observation pit is by far the coolest part. Highlight of my trip!
I came here with my daughter’s family from Washington State that included my 6 year old grandson who just loves prehistoric animals. I had been here many years ago when my children were young. I thought it had greatly improved. We made a special day trip to visit the museum. My grandson was thrilled and especially enjoyed the Mammoth exhibits. They have several hands-on exhibits which is excellent and my grandson especially enjoyed. They have a live action show that the kids love. Also they have a very nice movie. You can view through large glass windows an actual paleontology lab as they continue with their research. The outdoor area is also worth seeing including the large tar pit area. You do not have to pay to see this display. The museum store is also very nice and has a great collection of souvenirs, books, prehistoric toys, prehistoric stuffed animals, prehistoric and Ice Age pictures and posters. My grandson was very happy and brought home some nice memories. They only negative is I thought the parking was pricey. I thought the museum itself was priced appropriate. Suggest you come early as I suspect the parking could get filled during peak hours. I did not explore about alternate parking. This is fascinating to see what prehistoric life was here in southern California. We are fortunate to have this museum and and young children and adults alike will enjoy and learn.
Youd think after 100 pictures of an elephant in a tar pit someone would rescue it. Theres an original thought. Someone please take a picture of a key hole or something to break up the monotony maybe a water fountain or a shingle. Thanx a wet footprint might be nice.empty soda can bird droppings imagination people imagination.
Wonderful for families and adults. It really explains the area and its age and significance. You really finally understand WHY this place is important and gives you a great feeling to be in this place. Without question, seeing the bones and workers cleaning the finds seems like youre being allowed into a bank vault, its that special...
We LOVED The La Brea Tar Pits. Very interesting to see the active site of excavation, and learn of the past excavations. Seeing the largest pit still bubbling was so cool! The inside of the museum provided some interactive areas, as well as an informative 3D movie (extra cost since we went on free day...which is the first Tuesday of the month).
The museum was great but walking around and seeing the pits and watching the scientists work really just made it so amazing. Everyone was helpful and kind. The kids really enjoyed the interactive exhibits.
It was very informative. Only reason they did not get 5 stars is because we paid to see two different shows. We watched the first then got in line for the other movie. They said we we were in the wrong line and sent us to another. Were they showed us the same one we had just watched. It was a pain but mistakes happen. We were not able to watch the second show because we did not have time. They refunded our money with no problem other then it took forever.
Awesome place to visit. Most of the bones and fossils you will see are from the tar pits in LA!! Thats amazing. The staff is very helpful and tell you cool facts about the different displays. There are observation areas where you can see that pits up close! I had an amazing time!
Awsome the experience for kids and adults! I was amazed with tthe fact that this is the only tar pit - live excavation site in the world with over 3.5million specimens recovered till now.If u get all inclusive ticket for $22/adult, you can see the museum with paleontologists in action and one film Titans of ice age and a small live show: Ice age encounters. Both of them are wonderful and everyone enjoys. If you are curious about science then this is the place you should not miss in LA!
Fascinating opportunity to see what animal life was like 10,000 years ago. Excellent exhibits and very interesting 3D film.
Very pleasant Museum to visit. Wonderful for families. Come prepared with a picnic lunch, and a blanket. Enjoy the greenery at their grounds, and beautiful building structure. Peaceful atmosphere. Parking is $15. After visiting the La Brea Tar Pits walk its surroundings outside the museum grounds. Very clean. Lots of choices for dinner and other points of interest.
This place is full of fossils excavated/divorced directly on the site. This place has millions of yrs worth of history and its only a few miles from downtown L.A.. You need to check it out if your in L.A.
An on-site museum housing and featuring the millions of fossils excavated in the nearby tar pits (which are inaccurately named, as was repeatedly explained to us).All around excellent. There are Imax shows, live saber tooth puppet show, a mummified baby mammoth, lots of huge fossils, a place where you can test the stickiness of tar for yourself, and more and more.Besides all that, its an active excavation and conservation site, so you get to watch and talk to people cleaning the actual fossils, both inside in a lab and outside on location.Children were loving it, and us adults too honestly.
I really liked this place. We didnt actually go inside the museum itself as the cost was 20$ ahead and wed spend to much the day before. However, just walking around the grounds was so interesting. You could see actual tar pits after excavation, they had very nice sculptures and an outdoor theater area. Warning: watch where you walk, actual tar comes up from the ground and its been tracked all over.
The best Ice Age deposit of biological species right here in our own backyard. A wonderful introduction to natural science to children and their parents. A work in progress as much work is there to be completed.Do not miss the 3D movie presentation which tells the story of the area and its inhabitants.I was disappointed that no effort is made to reach non English speaking children and adults by providing translation or guided tours. This is a small museum with an awesome collection. The exhibits inside and outside the building are unique.
Interesting place for sure, not sure its worth $15 per person plus parking cost but we had a nice time none the less. Wild that it is right there in the city.
La Brea Tar Pits, world’s only active, urban Ice Age excavation site. So what are Tar Pits? Over the last 50,000 years, Ice Age animals, plants, and insects were trapped in sticky asphalt, which preserved them for us to find today. More than 100 excavations have been made at the Tar Pits since the early 1900s, and most of the fossils discovered here are housed in the museum at La Brea Tar Pits, at the center of the Tar Pits! Guess what, this is right in the center of LA, quite unbelievable.
When you visit, you can basically walk into a dogs site. It is an active archeological dig site, and the team there really help make it accessible. Something I found interesting was how tar keeps bubbling to the surface, so they mark the locations with cones. Museum has a fishbowl lab where they preserve the bones. It is a must see when youre in the area. Can also hit up some other museums and outdoor exhibits while you are there.
The La Brea Tar Pits is a nice if you have never been there before. The natural tar pits outside are still active. It was being reconstructed when we went but still had a lot opened.
Took my daughter and she had fun looking at the different fossils. She also had fun running around the grass area and climbing the trees
The tar pits and lake are smaller than I imagined; however, the museum, guided tour, and ability to see current excavations more than made up for it. The exhibits were well done. Our favorite activity was watching the technicians clean and sort fossils in the fish bowl. The tour guide did an excellent job with the history and ongoing scientific activities. The restrooms were clean.
Great experience, lots to see and well organized. Very informative and staff were welcoming and helpful. All the exhibits were exciting to experience. Well worth the cost of admission for what you will be experiencing. Highly recommend
It is unusual to find such piece of history in a large city. One notices oil fields and oil pumps in backyards while driving around LA. But it is a leap to realize that these tar fields preserve such treasure from thousands years ago. The La Brea Tar Pits is a wonderful museum of Mammoth discovery and exploration.
Very cool museum and tar pits. I especially like the graphics and the helpful guides! Also the gift shop had humor!
I wasnt that enthused to visit here. Not too exciting that animals got stuck in tar. Will quickly dash in and check it out to say that I did it. WOW!! This place is cool, even for a non thusiast like me!! So much more to it!! Take the Excavator Tour. Very informative, educational and interesting. If youre hungry, there are restaurants and a cafe next door. If you have a California EBT card admission is free. Really enjoyed it. Lots of pictures!!!
Educational but museum closed due to covid
$15 to park in their lot, our senior cost for both of us was $24 to get in, and a few of the extras in the museum cost (the museum is included in your entry fee). We thought it very interesting, especially the museum. Lots of real skeletons taken from La Brea dig sites, fabricated replicas of ancient animals, knowledgable staff, nice grounds. A one time only place to visit.
All the pits and the famous lake are accessible without any ticket because are open in the public park. The ticket is required only to go inside the museum where there are so many things to see. The parking is 15 dollars. The visit is worth because this place is unique in the world.
What an amazing place to visit while you’re in California. It Doesn’t cost very much money and what a nice day it’s a beautiful park to spend time in as well just watch out for the hot tar LOL. You’re right next to Trio donuts here and so many other national landmarks within walking distance
Natural History museum with live palaeontologists working as well. Photo Booth available but you require to pay for it afterwards, they don’t tell you it that you need to pay for them, very tourist guilt trip. The place is definitely very kid friendly, with all the information on the signboards in the museum and the tar pits.
The amount of upgrades the area has done is amazing. Its only 3 stars because it is a small museum. There are a handful on hands on activities for children. The LaBrea Park is a moderate size.
We loved everything! We learned so much. The tour guides were wonderful as well, they were very knowledgeable. There was so much to see. We will definitely go back. Also, the squirrels were a bonus 6/5☆s if I could lmao.
This place is so unique. I had no idea such places existed (tar just naturally oozes out of ground trapping anything that steps in it). Incredible, also amazing how interactive and transparent the archeaological process is.
Me and my family took advantage of free tickets through Discover and Go to visit the LABrea Tar Pits. Buried under our feet in Los Angeles lies millions of fossilized plant and animal remains.Tar Pit Museum houses the worlds largest collection of Ice age fossils. My boys enjoyed the experience, we will return.Parking is 15$.
Right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of busy Los Angeles you find this lovely grassed area, which is the home of the La Brea Tar Pits. You can smell the aroma of tar even before you enter this piece of history.I love how they have an active dig that you can look at from above and see the bones they are carefully uncovering from being captured in the ancient tar.The displays in the museum are awesome too!Lots of skeletons of animals from many hundreds of years ago.Very interesting place to visit.
What a great way to spend a day for everyone of all ages. Really cool science mixed with the beautiful outdoors of La Brea! There are all kinds of cool interactive fun learning displays as well as great areas to walk, run, eat and investigate. And, there are really cool tar bubbles that surface un the tar pits. Be sure to check out the museum to see actual scientists cleaning and categorizing fossils in the lab and to see life since displays of huge mastodons and saber cats; An amazingly adventurous trip through time!
I wanted to visit this place for a very long time. I finally had the opportunity and its totally worth the experience.
Have been going here since it opened. Nearby parking behind the museum for $15 all day. Great staff who go over all the stuff to see. Wonderful exhibits with many animal skeletons in action scenes and next to comparable species. The lab is open to see how the material from the pits is examined. Bathrooms and water filling stations available. Great garden in the middle. L.A. County residents receive free museum admission Monday - Friday from 3 - 5 pm so we got in free as well the last time we went.Do not forget to go outside to see the pits where material is taken from. The outside lab is also open to see the massive amount of material taken from a local construction site. You will see tar seeps in different areas of the lawn. The Art Museum is next door, Craft and Automobile museums across the street. Restaurants are across the street as well.
Glad I came!!I was always fascinated with this place from when I was younger and saw the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie Last Action Hero when he was thrown in the tar pit lol. How cool is it that LA has these kind of natural wonders all throughout the area?Come and visit. Get a wristband and come and do a cool activity too.
We came too late for the museum but the park and outs are worth it. Quiet and clean, good parking off the road or $18 for the day ($8 after 7) and you can explore all the art in the park. There are little bits of tar sectioned off in the parks (please don’t put stuff in the tar or etch in the trees, it’s just rude) and amazing statues to get a feel for what the ancient wild life was like in Ice Age LA. Very informative info on each area and plenty of places to picnic or relax.
It was fun to go and check out no doubt being in the area. A lot of younger children and families. More geared towards that but for the sake of saying you checked it out go. We just did the movie and entrance fee. A bit pricey, everything is labeled you could just pay entrance and would not miss anything.
My son and I loved our visit to this fascinating piece of history. I am from Africa and my son is resident in LA. We started by watching the 3D movie Titans of th Ice Age and then went on a tour of the various pits with a very knowledgable guide. Seeing the paleontologists in the Fish Bowlworking on the fossils was really interesting. Great tourist shop. A tourist attraction that will literally stick in your mind!!
Great museum for kids. Lots of interesting facts and historical information. Tours to see the pits are amazing. Even if you dont have time to go inside the museum and do the tour, theres information and a large fenced area to see the tar outside of the museum.
