Absolutely beautiful hike. HIGHLY recommended. Not too steep, but still a good workout if you take it fast.
Casual hike (not steep), excellent view and lots of cute looking prairie dogs that don’t seem scared to step in front of a moving vehicle. They say there’s quite a bit of wild life that can be spotted here. The biggest concern for me were the rattle snakes (not a fan at all). Good thing I didn’t encounter any during my hike. Over all it was a very pleasant experience.
Good hike. I got a little lost and went on the wrong path, but it was still enjoyable and easy to do. Some hills, but not too hard for kids.
This was or first time visiting this area. It looked like there were a few short trails, which was great for our dog. The views of the open space are beautiful!
It sure would be nice to have a dedicated Mountain Bike Trail somewhere in Boulder County.
Well maintained trails, just caution you to put on sunscreen, you wont find shade on these paths!
Love it here! Super easy hike! Watch out for those rattle snakes though they ain’t playing !
Wonderful area...fairly easy hiking with views of our awesome panoramas and the prairie dog sighting delightful...
Gorgeous collection of trails located just outside of Longmont. The trails are pretty relaxed and good for novice hikers. Spectacular views of the surrounding plains and hills make this one of my favourite places for a quick hike. Patrons of these trails do a great job keeping them clean and free of debris or litter.
Beautiful scenery amazing trails to walk. The Rocky mountainness is really great exercise. Nice views from the peaks.
Just moved here from ohio and I must say rabbit mountain is really a hell of a place. Many trails with many great views, the drive alone is awesome! Watch out for rattle snakes tho! Came across two last time I went, seen them later during dusk-dark.
Wide open trail. Not many trees. Good trail for taking a dog on hike.
Two very different choices of hikes here. One, Eagle, is a loop going through trees and other landscapes and is not so difficult. The other, Little Thompson Overlook, is more difficult because of the number of rocks you need to be aware of so that you do not fall. Overlook has a beautiful view at the end of the trail to sit, think and look out at the world. Neither are very difficult. There also happens to be a road going up between the two that is a good challenge, harder than the other two hikes, that is smoother and a real workout for those wanting a nice clean jog without the rocks. This is the add-on needed now. Only maybe 1% of people wear a mask here. There is a sign at the entrance stating they are required but it is completely ineffective. The trail often requires people to be very close and those refusing to wear masks also refuse to move over even the tiniest bit. It is up to the 1% of responsible people to also socially distance.
Amazing space, lovely atmosphere. If you want to grill, bring your own. The grill is padlocked.
Great little getaway hike. Great for the whole family. Not too much shade but beautiful views.
I took my horse for his first trail ride there and he did great. It was uncrowded and it was a really easy, nice trail
Great place to hike even if there are only a few trails. Views from the trails are great and easy to traverse. There is a very nice picnic area and lots of parking. The restrooms however, are amongst the most pungent I have been in, it kind of sticks with you.
All levels of trails, beautiful scenery, dogs on leash allowed, close to town but feels remote. Also, has picnic tables and restrooms. We did a late lunch picnic and afternoon hike. Spent 2 hours exploring. Love this hiking spot!
Great trail with beautiful views of the front range and the twin peaks. Not to challenging either. Just a few minutes outside of Lyons.
Not too busy. Pay attention as you hike this easy trail as I have seen an occasional snake and two bears in the past two years.
Great spot near Longmont for a couple different hikes, Eagle Wind is my favorite, especially for trail running.
Fun low stress hike
Really good hikes for the whole family with great views
Peaceful and usually not crowded. Beautiful trails to walk, run, or mountain bike.
Very fun and short hike. They have three trails that you can follow. All of which are just right for a quick hike.
Nice place to hang out if you dont wanna drive too far
Lovely open views to look out upon.
One of my favorite places close to Longmont. Great for a quick hike or mountain biking.
Wow, a ticket for being there just after sunset. I was literally watching the sunset from the benches overlooking the parking lot.
Great short but sweet hike/bike trail! With great views of the Flatirons to the Southwest and on the other end of the trail great views of the Plains.
Not bad
Great place to go for a day hike.
A favorite for a quick hike! Great open space and easy parking.
The frontrange has so many hiking trails and this short, rocky trail would seem to not offer much above others, but the views to the west and east are always amazing. The trail is very rocky, so wear boots (or good bike tires). I see people trail run it, so perhaps Im overly sensitive to the ankle breakers.
While the parking lot is rather small and I was full, the hike itself was enjoyable. Some very great views!
Beautiful view. Clean bathroom
Wonderful views and great hiking options.
Great area, not much shade on the different trails. Great views and good area for easy mountain biking. The trails are short but have great views and are not crowded most of the time except weekends when the parking lot is often full
Fun to do with you family especially if you have little ones with you.
Good easy hike. Parking is limited at the trailhead, getting there early is good, or evenings. Eagle wind trail is a tad less than 4 miles round trip. Little Thompson is shorter and quicker. Easy and fun hike without having to drive a long ways. Yes, there are bull and rattlesnakes summer time. Enjoy and have fun!
Nice trail, alot of wildlife.
Great spot near Lyons for an easy hike.
Nice, close to town hike. The loop has more shade, the lookout path is very Rocky and surprisingly looks out north. I always see deer here, often bald eagles, and today we saw a beautiful Western Tanager. Well-travelled trail with lots of dogs and some bikes.
Limited parking, but a good open hiking space. Has a bathroom.
Okay for a quick hike. Bring your sunblock and water. Watch out the rattlesnakes in the summer.
I hike here all the time. Good trails and well marked. Parking is short, and most times it is full.
A great place that is super close to Longmont with wonderful views. A great place to hike and mountain bike with everything from a trial you could push a wheelchair on to more technical hilly and rocky trials. My only complaint is that theres only about 10 miles worth of trail. More than most people need for walking but not a lot for mountain biking.
Great little trail for hiking, biking and trail running. Due to sun exposure it is best in fall, winter, and spring as the trail seems to dry quickly.
Its RATTLESNAKE season. I almost stepped on one laying on the path (just past the bench) to soak up some sun after 4pm yesterday. Wear protective clothing and be on the look out. I was wearing running shorts and could have run into big trouble yesterday had I been bit.
Beautiful and spacious, loved every minute of it!
Pretty trail, prairie feel. Good for kids. Dogs on leash.
Its great
Eagle Wind trail is the best of the 3. Nice views. Not too challenging but still a good workout. Big Thompson trail is very rocky.
Beautiful morning hike even in the Frozen Fog. A little muddy in places but not too bad and made for great tracks to look at!
Great local hike, keep dogs on leashes due to lots of rattlesnakes and deer, the first part of the overlook trail is a bit boring but its worth it, and the loop is my favorite quick hike.
Nice lots of nature.
Nice hiking spot
Great spot for pictures, etc
Great walk and no snakes in cool weather!
Stunning views. Great space for horse back riding or dog walks. Not overly crowded and very peaceful. One of my favorite hikes in Boulder County!
Beautiful easy hike! First part is steep. Levels out up top!
Love rabbit mountain.. great If you have flat landers from out of town in . You can go on a nice hike and not kill your company..
This is a great hiking area, a lot busier than it was five years ago. Its a convenient place to get away. The trails are a great length and mild in difficulty.
Nice place to ride horses, bikes or hike, dogs on leashes allowed. Watch out for
Nice and close to home! My therapy place.
One of my favorite short hikes in Boulder County. Have been coming here for ages. Some things to know. On most of the trails there is very little tree coverage meaning in the dead of Summer it can be a VERY hot walk. Keep this in mind if youre bringing your four legged buddies. There is a small covered area with a grill that I believe may be first come first serve but dont quote me. There are restrooms as well as a pretty decent amount of parking either in the lot or on the road.Plenty of wild flowers in the spring and early summer as well as an abundance of song birds and several birds of prey including a Bald Eagle from time to time. Deer are very common as well as foxes and coyotes but they typically keep to themselves during the parks open hours. If one ever approaches you you should probably keep clear as this is uncommon behavior and the animal could be sick. Has never happened to me here but it is a possibility.Just a PSA - Keep your pups on leash because BC Rangers AND Boulder County Sherrifs patrol the area heavily and may issue citations and as always...putting your dogs waste into a bag doesnt count as picking it up. You have to actually make it into the waste bin for that to be the case. Be a Dear and do everyone a favor and pick up after Fido wont you?Otherwise, everyone seems to be quite friendly when you pass them either on foot, on bike, or even on horseback. Dont forget the sunscreen ;)
Quick access from Longmont, convenient and beautiful hikes, easy to moderate terrain
No shade one hot day but the hike is great
Beautiful wilderness area. Unique foothills views to the South and captivating rock formations everywhere. Dogs must be on leashes for their own safety- definitely a rattlesnake area.
The trail was niece but parking was hard
Fun place to hike with the family.
Nice trail that is a moderate challenge and has some diverse scenery.
Dog friendly, nice open spaces. Similar to other areas of the front range though.
Super rocky trails, nice views, not too steep for an early season hike.
It is fun to hike and the views are worth it
Beautiful hike/ trail run! Can be snowy, icy or muddy in the winter. I always see elk roaming around so be careful with dogs.
A little rocky but completely rideable.
Love going to rabbit mountain to walk the dog. Beware it can be really hot mid day. There is little shade. We go first thing in the morning or at dusk
A real nice, not too long trail near Longmont. One mile up 350 ft, then 2 around the top, then back down. Nice 360 view of the area.
One of my favorite front range hiking spots.
Great place friendly park rangers plenty of wildlife
Great hidden gem that has not been overly busy any time Ive visited. Because it is off the main road, not many people tend to know its here. A few different hiking areas offer different views of the area.
Very nice park in the foothills with three trails. I have seen elk in the plains to the south.
We love coming here for hikes with our dogs and kiddo. The loops are short and moderate, with nice views of the northern front range. It can get a little sunny with minimal shade, so bring a hat. Lots of parking at the trailhead.
Nice hike kind of short bit easy to get to
Nice place to hike. Bathrooms do not smell well.
Beautiful views and trail is easy enough to hike.
Nice hike close to home in Longmont.
Watch for raddle snakes. Never seen them myself but Ive talked to many people whove seen them even on the trails
I like this little trail. The whole family goes to hike.
This is a great place to explore the plains to foothills transition. I believe it to be an underrated birding area. Facilities are 1 restroom, covered picnic table, information/maps sign.
Nice walking trails, great views. Easy to Moderate in difficulty. Restrooms not good. Watch out for the snakes. We didnt see any though.
Moderate incline. Great views.
This space does not look like much as youre approaching it, but has great views looking out once youre there. I like the covered picnic table area as a reprieve from the bright sun.
A favorite place to hike with my dog, family and friends that is a quick drive from Main Street Longmont. The trails are well marked and easy to moderate for hikers of any ability.
Two trails to choose from, both are very scenic and easy to moderate difficulty. Bathroom facility in parking lot. Dog friendly too.
