Greens were fast .Holes were crowned slow moving ball rolled out at the hole. Fairways grass were short or bare. Enjoyed the outing. Ill be back
This course was a pleasant surprise, BIG TIME. It doesnt look that impressive online, but please go play it and see for yourself! There are great elevation changes and a few great sight lines, various and fun movements to fairways, and there are multiple clubs you can choose to hit off of most tees. Every course boasts its ability to challenge good golfers while still being fun for struggling golfers, but this course actually lives it. There is a perfect mix of options for both challenge AND recovery. Service in my experience was great too - especially in comparison to another Long Beach course I played on the same trip that was the total opposite. Well done, Recreation Park, I hope to be back soon!
This course is just ok.I understand this course is a local public course.Only thing I complain about is green speed. Its too soft and slow.
Playing right now and there are 2 groups on every tee. One of the most crowded experiences Ive ever had in 20 years of golfing and no marshal in sight. Skylinks was way better a couple days ago.
Great place to bring your dog to play. Plenty of space and balls laying around.
Updated review. Played the Recreation 18 today and had a completely different experience than my previous outing. Eli and Dean in the pro shop were great! Eli was very accommodating and Dean even went out to his vehicle to get a tool to help me tighten my driver head. The course conditions are great for this time of year. Additionally, the breakfast in the restaurant is some of the best Ive ever had. I learned that Ambassadors (former Marshals), really do not have a lot of pull on the course and at times golfers have to manage the course and pace of play of other groups who may be slow. I would definitely play this course again!
Course is in great shape. Played in under 4 hours. Pro shop crew rocks!
Good round. 4 hours 15 minutes.
Rec Park is one of my favorite munies in southern California. It usually is in decent shape. Greens are quicker than most in the area and usually put true. The course gets a lot of play in 5-hour rounds are the norm. So be patient! Tee boxes for most part of flat and they do a decent job of keeping grass on them for as much play as it gets. Its a parkland layout with some very fun holes. Great practice area two putting greens a chipping green with a bunker practice area. Driving range is a little on the small side so it will get busy.
The course is well maintained and with the long beach golf club sustem playing the course with a cart is a great deal. You able to order food while playing and pick it up hot and fresh at the club house. Parking can be a little bit of a hassle on the weekends but since I play only during the weekdays it is always easy. The advantages of being retired.
This course continues to email me tee time reservation confirmations despite the fact that I live 600 miles away and have never played there. I called them the last time this happened and asked for my email to be removed from there system and apparently nothing was done. Im curious how they got my work email which is on a private server with 10 other people since I have never been there or given them this email. I could understand the mix up if I was receiving emails at a Gmail or Outlook account, but this address is hosted through my companies website. Very fishy.
Best public golf course in Long Beach. Facilities keeps it up pretty well. Its not too easy and not too difficult. Its got nice hills that make it more difficult. Its not riddled with sand traps like some of the other local courses. Pretty great practice facilities as well.
Great course! Unfortunately it was almost a 6 hour round due to the Marshalls lack of guts to get a slow foursome moving. The foursome in question was two holes behind and when we notified the Marshall he said Ill call the pro shop and let them know. Uh, no, it is your job to make sure groups are keeping pace of play. I say this as a Marshall myself. If you have to call the pro-shop to keep pace of play then you are merely on the course to empty the trash, which this Marshall was doing when we notified him of the delay. Again, great course, terrible course management by the Friday Marshall.
Great course, well watered.
Single player per cart is great. We played in 3 hrs 40 minutes.
Customer service line is rude. Refered to my father asking for help, sorry man cant help you. Just asking about his resident card status.
Played the day after a rain storm. The course played beautifully. The drainage is excellent. Course is long.
Great course, but theres always an issue with people driving into your group.
Im new to golf. 2 months. Ive golfed executive courses and Twlight golf 9 hole pro courses. This was my first 18 holes. It was beautiful. The greens were well groomed, carts were in good condition and staff friendly and helpful.
Good practice session
Great golf course, beside the slower than expected really caused the round to be a bit less perfect. Overall conditions were better than good, much better than many course out there. Tee boxes were leveled, fairways were green, roughs were cut, and greens were true.....what else could you have asked for....
Rented their hall for the night ..great foods service and drinks ..would recommend anyone to use their for any event ..
Greens were in great shape, though running a little slow in the AM. Fairways were in a bit of rough shape with some bare spots and muddy patches. Still, overall pretty good.
They need to put new yardage markers on the driving range and new more visible flags.
Great course.
Cool course, wide open fairways and nice greens. The young kid at the front desk in the golf shop is a great help with a wonderful vibe.
Theres a senior special on weekdays. The course is in decent shape but the greens were punched during the last 2 weeks. If you like fast greens, wait a couple of weeks.
Nicely kept course, a little slow play but over all amazing course for the price
Fun and open course. Normally decent pace of play.
Super convenient parking, and plenty of spaces, really close to the venue. Beautiful little garden gazebo area for our friends wedding. Really hot & in direct sunlight, though, so bring a hat & shades! Nice, large banquet room for reception. Good service, too.
Great place to have events! My wife and I were married here!! Great open space and romantic atmosphere in the wedding section
Favorite Long Beach Golf course. Great price and always a great day
Why do Municipal golf courses allow fivesomes?? We were moving along at a great pace and then we crashed into a fivesome and play then moved to a crawl. Did not see a single marshall on the course to keep the pace moving. Great course, somewhat challenging and the price is right.
Greens in excellent condition but tough. Try to stay below the hole. Down hill puts are fast. Undulating fairways and blind second shots for us short hitters. Challenging but a fun course.
Great track. Constant winds and hilly terrain provide an enjoyable challenge. Beautiful scenery all around.
I was at the venue to do a walk through before a wedding. The site is gorgeous and the staff were amazing. Very professional, relaxed, and knowledgeable. I am excited to Coordinate the upcoming wedding here! Juliann thanks for all you do!
Interesting William Bell design. Greens are in fairly good shape for the amount of play the course gets. I would play it again.
Nice folks. Wide open track. Challenging greens. Decent pace of play.
Attended wedding reception at this location. The decorations were very pretty. The room itself is kinda open to the public bar which was weird. The food was very good, but bringing it out took way too long. The AC wasnt keeping it cool enough in the room.
I DJed a wedding here tonight. The whole staff is amazing! Mayra was the venue coordinator I dealt with all night and she was awesome. A real hard worker. And the rest of the staff as well!
Banquet facility is top notch! Indoor area for 150 people plus outdoor space with gazebo.
Garden area was beautiful, staff were very friendly and helpful, food was good, only negative was the beer was on the expensive side.
I enjoyed a pleasant evening playing at your course. However, much as I come I would like to have at least one free gamePlease can you accommodate me.
Such a beautiful place.. Im having my wedding here so if you like golfing please go here it was wonderful
I played Big Recreation golf course Monday, May 13th in 90 degree plus heat and found the course to be in great shape. The greens were exceptional and have been vastly improved. After requesting water from the course Marshall, staff were very accommodating. I enjoyed the golf experience, on that very warm day and will definitely play the course again. Whomever is the course Manager is currently should be commended on a job well done! Keep up the good work. Peace
Short by todays standards but has lots of challenging holes. No water at all. Historic course opened in 1910 as the original Virginia Country Club. Fairways and greens are in great condition. Thats amazing considering how busy it is. I took one star away because as it gets over 120,000 rounds per year it can be a long day. Five-plus hour rounds are common. Lots of people trying to play who shouldnt be out there.
Its a fun little track, but has been in bad shape for a long time now. If you want to feed your ego, go play here.
Good wide open fairways local course
This was the third park Ive played in Long Beach. Rec Park. and the others courses are amazing, challenging and fun. Good greens fast but not zoom zoom fast. Food is excellent (better than some country clubs). Be back soon
I have lived in long beach all my live and have been going to this park for many many years i love it its beautiful and just a awesome park has everything for kids and grown ups .
Not in the best shape right now but still a fun course to play.
Course is in great shape overall. Several sand traps are in terrible shape, no or little sand only rock pebbles.
5 hours and 15 minutes. For 5800 yards.
Top quality golf course in the areaGreens are always well maintainedFairways are also well maintainedPricing is fair
Ive been going to this course since I was a freshman in high school. Always great service especially from Will the bartender and Mariah on the grill.
I love this course
They just suck
This course is actually well maintained and laid out for a public course. There are good elevation challenges which leads to a fun and pleasant round.
17th Hole has no sand all summer.. AG is Cheap
Beautiful and lovely golf course. People are kind of judgemental and stuck up but still enjoyed visiting.
Very friendly, relaxing place. Beautiful park-like views from rolling hills. Fun course to play.
Awesome range. Nice staff. Good prices
Awesome deal if you join their Players Club
Fun course in decent condition. However, needs more carts to accommodate all players.
Have played this course for 10 years, its my local course and being that its a hundred and some odd years old it holds up pretty well especially with all the play that it gets. Greens are usually always in pretty good shape but every once in awhile you get some that are messed up from some A$$**** doing donuts in them hopefully we can catch the person that thinks that is funny. To the slow play problem people just need to play faster quit taking 20 practice swings and reading putts like youre on the PGA Tour and most important play from the proper tees if youre a high handicapper play it forward dont play from the blue tees
Golf course was in good shape even after all the rains!!
Very nice
First time Golfing here on a Sunday it was pretty crowded, put them about 30 minutes behind schedule. The play was pretty fast even with a 5 some. The Cart girl Amelia was great! the greens were in really good shape for a Public course. I am looking forward to playing here again.
Yesterday was the first time I played this course. I really liked the layout and thought the course was in very good condition. The greens were great! I gave it a Good in the Quality category for one reason and its the same for every Long Beach golf course. Slow play. Get rid of fivesomes! In a golf world where slow play is killing the game for amateurs, it is beyond me why the Long Beach courses continue this practice. I know its an issue of revenue, but heres the solution. Do foursomes only and raise the greens fees accordingly. $15.00 maybe? I dont know the absolute correct number, but what I do know is that myself and every one of my golfing friends would pay extra in exchange for a four hour round of golf.
Great place to have a round and the staffs always doing their best to provide and help you, even with those impatient peoples.
First time here nd loved it...
Very well maintained. Quick and easy to get a bucket of balls to use on the driving range. Highly recommend.
Course is in great shape.
Wonderful city golf course. American Golf does a good job managing as well.
Way too expensive for that course.
Extremely slow play. Not the most challenging course. Its inexpensive so lot of people go there
Great
This course had always held a special place in my heart. My friend and I played here a lot but he passed away 2 years ago and my hips and knees are bad. But on a positive note I played here again after my back surgery and I love it.
Not cheap, but I guess golf in Southern California isnt cheap! Expect your start time to be delayed in the weekend, 5somes and waiting throughout-last time it was 5.5 hours deep on the 15th hole and I had to gt going to work! You get a lot of opportunities to drive far which is fun and the greens arent too dry all things considered.
Great day course was in good condition.
We arrived 10 minutes before our tee time, and the nice young woman got us out there right on time. The fairways were in good shape, and the greens were perfect. These are the best greens ive seen in a long time. I will be back soon!
Good course for the price. Go during the week as they spread out the tee times and theres very little waiting on the foursome in front of you.
Had a great time here. Only complaint about other guests being rude. Great carts that show meters electronically.
You are greeted by course staff are friendly and helpful. The course is well maintained, greens are quick, overall a fun challenging design.
Great course lay out and greens are always rolling good
Nice small course. Would go back.
Surprising good conditions, greens always firm and fast, and the course primary protection.
Always amazed how well kept Rec. Park is.Greens *outstanding, fairways great. And starter was courteous and competent.Way to go guys & girls.
I really enjoyed this part because they have a doggie park thats really awesome to have people come together and they do have a different other person and start talking about one another and have to write
Fun course. Especially the back 9. Watch for errant tee shots on the first 6. Very busy on weekends.
Excellent young man behind the cash register in your golf shop. Lovely course. Had a fun time and will return.Linda Carreras
Went off at 7 AM 5 Hour round!!!! Put a tournament with 2 groups on #5 tee box in front of us!!!
Nice course. The cart girl didnt come around once but we brought our own beer and good.
