Municipal parks and other green spaces of varying sizes are in no short supply in and around Livermore.Brush Peak Regional Preserve is part park and part nature preserve, but unlike others that permit adventurous visitors to venture off the trails, in Brushy Peak, you’ll need to stay on well-marked paths, because it’s home to some protected plant species. The preserve features several family-friendly trails, but previous visitors have noted that shade and seating areas are few and far between. If you’ll be visiting during the summer, you’ll want to bring a good hat, sunblock, and plenty of water.Brushy Peak Regional Preserve’s entrance is located on Laughlin Road, just a short drive from the city center.
The longest trail from start to finish is a little under 5 miles. I have taken my son with me since he was 5 although he complains a bit he gets it done I also have hiked it while 6 months pregnant so its doable. Depending on what way you go up its either a steep incline or gradual incline. If you start from the end of the trail and go up its a gradual incline. Dog friendly place but must be on leash. Bathroom/water available in parking lot There is a mini lake/pond no fishing allowed. Depending on time of year there are ducks, frogs, cows, sheep and plenty of lizzards/squirrels. Definitely check the weather before going some days it can be windy others super hot depending on time of year. Definitely a place to take the family for fitness or to get away from the city.
Strangely beautiful. Great hills for running but be careful, some of the west facing paths are cracked.
Brushy Peak made for a super fun hike with my brother and his dogs! I definitely want to do it again.
Full sun exposure and a good amount of uphill/downhill hiking. But the views are great especially an up close look at Brushy. Always pleasantly surprised by wildlife. Saw a cottontail this time around.
Absolutely beautiful. They had fat n fluffy sheep there it was great.
Great place for hiking. Especially after raining season because it has a more wonderful view.
Wide trails with short or long options, good vistas. Today I enjoyed the sheep & sheep dog.
Very nice scenery, serene and close to home; its a great place for a short hike. The serpentine rock formations with scrub oak growing around them give the hilltops an enchanted feel.
Nice trails with difficulty level easy to hard. Wont suggest during rains as slopes are steep at some places. Less crowded makes it more enjoyable.
Easy hike. Great place for a fresh walk.
That was a difficult but amazing hike. Pictures will tell more than words.
Good trail loop run. Cows were cool and scenery was beautiful. I definitely will go again.
Brushy Peak is one of my favorites. Brushy Peak may not have as many trails as a lot of the other ebrpd parks, but its got a great view and grazing cattle. In all honesty, the thing I love most about this park is that it reminds me of middle earth in the springtime. This park is free to visit. Know before you go: bring lots of water, apply bug spray, and watch out for cowpies.
Great preserve and good trails. Access to Near the summit is a 2 mileish trail. It has steep portions but is doable. Continue past the summit for a 2 mileish return on a loop trail, almost all downhill. Overall very pleasant hike.
I really like this trail. There are several ways to start and end your hike and the views ate great!
Nice wide open hiking trails. Not a whole lot of shade.
Very nice regional park. The trails are open, so this Park is best to visit on days that are not super hot, like winter and spring. Nice views from Brushy Peak trail.
Great example of East Bay wilderness. In the Spring, green rolling hills, chirping birds, and a tranquil atmosphere. Just beware if it has rained recently, it will be quite muddy.
Beautiful 5 miles hike with 1k elevation
It was a beautiful Memorial Day weekend for a hike at Brushy Peak. Thanking God for this great nation we live in and the many, many soldiers who sacrificed so we could enjoy these simple pleasures.
Long trails that go up and around the mountain. This may look boring from the outset but it has a lot of character. Kid friendly and you can enjoy this in both winter and summer.
This place is pretty barren looking when you pull into the parking lot (which is free). Theres no trees in sight at first, looks sunny, dry grass and bleak. I actually enjoyed my hike though and saw a coyote!!! There are a few pretty trees when you get further out on the trails, wildflowers and big boulders. There is a bathroom, maps and water fountain at the parking lot.
I love this hiking spot. Right near Altamont Pass. Its never been packed when Ive been there. Gorgeous views and you get to walk with the cows. One of my favorite hiking spots in Livermore.
A nice hike. In summer super hot and in winter super cold and nothing much to see. If you geocache there are quite a few to find here.
Beautiful place when everything was green. Pet friendly. Walked with the cows. Excellent views.
Beautiful hike with some good elevation. Frogs, mountain gophers, lizards...even a dead cow!
Great open-country hiking trails in easy reach of town. Offers beautiful trails with magnificent vistas, and up to 800 foot climb on some trails.
Just the experience of been out with family in the outdoors its five star.
This is great place for a hike not so great for pretty much anything else. It’s a little desolate in terms of people or any activity for that matter - surrounded on all sides by private land - but still is a huge area with trails and mountains and you can walk and hike for hours. We went in August when the grass had all dried up and there was very little vegetation on top of the hills. The top offers a good view of Livermore - see if you can spot the US flag post in Livermore downtown!
Went here for a quick 2 mile loop. The trail does offer some challenges with the elevation gain from the parking lot to the top. You could just go up to the lake and turn back. The trail is laced with wildlife. As I walked the trail we noticed several types of birds and tiny lizards everywhere we looked.
I consider this place a hidden gem for mtn biking. The climb is somewhat grueling, but the rocky decent is what makes this place fun. FUN, FUN decent!I always announce my presence when approaching hikers. So if youre mtn biker, pls be courteous and let people know before you pass. I once saw a biker try to pass left but a small child got in his way. The biker somehow avoided the collision.
Hiking with my pup.Nice and easy. And clean.
Definitely a challenging hike with steep hills but some nice views if you make it to the top. A few birds of prey to view if youre a birder as well.
Great hike with nice views when you get half way through. Some areas are steep climb but very much doable by most
My go to after work hiking spot. Little gem in our area.
Very nice, dog friendly trail.
If you’re lucky you’ll be here while the cattle are out.
Hiked this in Feb. which was nice and green.
Beautiful and mostly quiet! Found some Native American acorn grinding rocks even
Its a good place to hike with good trails and great views of Livermore. The only things is the road you have to drive on to get there. It is very thin, and at some points only 1 car can fit on the road. The corners make it very dangerous if someone is speeding coming toward you because their is no lines in the road, its like Paterson pass but with more blind spots.
I had fun hiking the foothills
It is moderate hiking trail and very customizable. You may take one trail to climb a hill or another one at the fork to avoid it and walk on a level trail. Dont have to continuously climb or descend a giant mountain.
This is great Trail experience for horse 4.6 MI it doesnt get too hot on the Range if you start early enough in the day and you avoid all the foot traffic
Short, medium and longer hiking, biking and equestrian trails. Very easy to get to but feels far from it all. Fantastic views of the Livermore valley.
Beautiful views, great workout, and close to home.
Best hiking in East Livermore
Great hikes, crowded on weekends, but big enough you can still usually find some quiet trails. No rules enforcement so expect off leash dogs and people smoking all over
Great trail for hiking. At the base drinking water is available. Restroom available. You can expect coyotes roaming around.
Its very open and very hot no shade
So challenging but oh so worth it!!
Favorite place for a solo hike. Great for beginners too.
Beautiful views of Livermore, windmills, and grass ecosystem. They accomodate with a spigot for water and a unisex bathroom. Trails can be steep, so tightly-tied sneakers would be the best option. Really tough mud when it rains for multiple days, so dont even try when it does. Full exposure to sun and sometimes dusty if no rain for multiple days.
Nice place for riding and hiking..
Good hiking trails with views of the Livermore valley
My favorite place to hiking
Great place for a loop hike with changing scenery and nice views. Hills provide a workout without being too strenuous.
Beautiful place.
Nice hiking in the hills! Great to get a bit of a workout. Also pretty nice for birding. Not a lot of trees or shade, so bring some sunblock and water!
We hiked the West loop. Some of the trail markings were lacking or vandalized, but wasnt too hard to find the way. Lots of cows who were on or near the trail. Didnt realize cows could be intimidating. Lots of critters and wildlife, which was very cool. Excited to go back and try the harder trails.
This place was beautiful. The trails to hike were outstanding. The views are great and the wild life we saw was everywhere !
Great park with varied hilly trails. Hot in the summer, much is exposed.
Beautiful hiking and riding area. Trails are just enough of an incline to get your heart rate up, but not so steep that your legs give out. And if youre willing to stick it out youll be rewarded with some beautiful hilltop views.
Ive hiked here over 70 times at this point. Its great for beginners and for hiking or jogging routines
Very nice came during bloom season lots of green great views.
Not much of a nature environment but still have good Breeze and view of the valley. Free range cows at close distance. Good legs work out, you dont need to run to feel it. Just walking and jigging alone got my thigh in shape. Many trails to choose from with good top views.
Not that challenging or exciting. But a good place for a walk or run. Though some parts of the path can rocky, so be careful.
Great place to hike! Be sure to bring a hat on sunny days as there is not much shade. Also some hill get pretty steep. Bring proper hiking shoes that preferably have laces. I would rate most trails on the intermediate level. In other words not everyone will be able to reach the top.
Amazing place to exercise and just connect with nature. Beautiful sights from tge bottom of the mountain to the top!
Fabulous place to watch golden eagles soar!
Nice easy climb... Near the home and easy to get to. Lots of animals to see...
Great hiking, even saw a coyote.
Expansive trails and beautiful views. Well maintained.
Really nice area and very clean
Love this place due to their walking trails
Multiple trails with serval rest/picture taking spots.
Cultural significance to my past relatives.
Great trails for a walk or run. If you come mid day, bring a hat and/or sunscreen as there is little shade. Parking, bathrooms, trails, hills, views. Its a great place to get out and explore
This place is really cool but make sure to follow the path we went out of the path and got lost and also had to go through bushy plants with so many bees. Its really easy. There are cows walking around minding their own business. Watch your step for cow poo, pointy plants and other stuff.
Nice place for a hike with a beautiful view
Great!
Very relaxing walk
Peaceful walk with green rolling hills
Really nice area to hike at, but do not expect long hikes. We did almost the entire hiking circuit in one day. Still, I would recommend going there at least once. Very scenic.
This is the most accessible free (no parking fee) trail in the East Bay. Trails range from just over a miles to over a half marathon if you do them all continuously. Also it is open a 5AM to 10PM year round for those training with busy schedules. The most popular 6 mile loop is ~750 of elevation gain.Trails get very sloppy just following a rain but dry up in less than a week usually.
It was very quite, peaceful and serene. There was a small pond on the way and cattle grazing around. There are 4- 5 different trails.
Great, scenic getaway.
Nice spote just go early before it gets hot
Fantastic place for running, walking, biking, send enjoying outdoors
It was a well used trail. Lacking a bit on scenery compared to what Im used to hiking, but the walk past the pond was lovley.
Great hiking easy to follow maps
Love this trail. Always clean. Plenty of parking. Many trails with different difficulties. You can plenty of wildlife, so far we havent seen snakes, so thats a plus!!
It was a little hot but thats my fault for not going earlier in the day. I think it could use a few more picnic tables for places to have small children rest because I had my 6 year old with me and saw other little ones who were looking for places to sit down and relax from the heat. Several very nice view spots to watch the sunset though if you want to do that.
