Great short walk from the small parking area. Wonderful views, almost 360 degrees.
Short trails, happy views. Live nextdoor (sorta) and always take no longer then half an hour to hike. When I take over the Pokémon go gym for red team, Be sure to friend me- WINNEREEVEES101. Also add pokemon to it!
This is a tiny piece of suburban paradise. Start a hike at the Right Locke Farm. Enjoy the chickens and goats on the way to the hiking trails. Trails run around two small ponds filled with turtles, ducks, muskrats, dragonflies, red wing black birds and more. Along the trail you can see skunk cabbage, Jack in the pulpit, and meadow rue. But best of all, visit whipple hill in May to see dozens of native lady slippers in bloom.
Fun hike with a four year old.
Awesome place to hike with family. Parking a little challenging.
Very manageable hike with a view (in winter and early spring before trees get leaves)
Very fun walk/hike. Good for dogs on the leash, though you may encounter some off-leash. Also, there are llamas to look at.
A scenic and peaceful nature walk. Dog friendly.
Amazing hiking trails in a gorgeous area. Well worth the trip.
Enjoyable, easy hike in the neighborhood. Multiple trails intersecting each other. Theres ruins of an old house and a rusted frame of an old car (allegedly a 1952 Packard). Theres a treeless summit and a couple of ponds and streams.
Trails are beyond confusing and I almost got attacked by hawk.
Beautiful scenery, and is very remote!
My favorite hiking loop in the Arlington-Belmont-Lexington area. After the fall the rocky hilltop has views West to Mount Wachusett, and East to the skyline in Boston. The whole trail is forested, passing rock walls and a seasonally-running creek. A little glen just beneath the hilltop and above the pond has 15-25 ft. rock faces which are great to scramble around on.Except for the section along the stream the loop is pretty steep, but you can still keep a decent pace while trail running. From the lakes you can detour another .25 mile to the Wright Locke farm to see the goats and the berry pickin fields.
Whipple Hill is a small conservation area on the Winchester / Lexington border. There is sometimes limited parking but you can park on nearby side streets. There is a central ridge - Whipple Hill is the highest point on the NW side of Boston of the hills surrounding Boston Basin - with a few views, and a number of marked forest paths. There is also a nice pond with a small loop around that. Boardwalks protect some of the muddiest areas.
Nice almost-tranquil place excepting for the packs of unleashed dogs let loose by local dog walkers; one large dog ran up and aggressively bit my four year olds stick right out of his hands, which really frightened him and ruined the experience for us. I understand that dogs can share the woods (up to two a person), but if they cannot restrain themselves around people (especially children), please keep them leashed.
The best view in Lexington
Small and manageable conservation area with a decent variety of terrain. The summit is interesting as its the highest point in Lexington and there are some interesting boulders/rocks. Best for dog walkers- if youre looking for more of a hike than a ramble, best to look elsewhere.
Beautiful place. Definitely will be back :)
Nice place to hike and for solitude but a lot of bugs.
Its gorgeous, but dog walkers have waaaay too many dogs here. The limit is 2, but youll find packs of 6-10 dogs bouncing around the trails. Please be extra careful if you come here with young children. Its unsafe.
Pleasant forest walk.
A good place to view meteor showers as well as sunsets. Not much view of Boston or the local area, however. Dogs are welcome.
Sweet little conservation area with some good bouldering
Well maintained trails year round with access from Lexington, Arlington and Winchester. Dogs permitted off leash without time restrictions.
Nice local spot with varied trails
This place seems small but is actually pretty big! The paths wind around the location and you can see some great views of Boston. Really liked it. Seems like a great place to go running or a bike.
Trails are very well marked.
Nice little challenge for children. Shady and cool most of the hike. Great place to disconnect from the city. Make sure you get refreshing fruits and pops at the Wright Locke farm stand after the hike.
Dog walkers delight!
GOOD HIKING SPOT WITH NICE VIEWS
Pretty good suburban hike. I bet its more spectacular in June than in it was in April.
Well, Whipple Hill is a breath of fresh air - literally
Great place to walk with your family and/or dog. Fun to walk through to Wright-Locke Farm for popsicles, raspberry picking, and animal viewing.
Great place to walk with dogs off leash. Icey in winter. Need to have some communication with pet owners when dogs are lost.
Absolutely peaceful natural trails. Occasional runners and dog walkers!
A little buggy but a nice off leash place for your dog to get some exercise.
Whipple hill is a large land locked conservation area with well maintained and well marked trails. You can access the park from rt 2a in the Lexington Arlington Town line. The sign is small, and it looks like someones driveway. If you reach Arlington, you have missed the entrance. The parking lot is small and often gets crowded especially on a nice day. You can park on Reed St in Arlington and walk back to the entrance. You can access the trails from Wright lock farm in Winchester also.
Terrific place to hike, with kids, dogs, or just by yourself. Trails are not always well-marked so bring your GPS (phone). Scenery is not stunning but nice. This is more about woodlands, ponds, and streams to explore.
Good nature trails the hill could be bigger.
Beautiful hiking area.
Very nice local conservation land area. Good walking, surprisingly good mountain biking.
So many places to walk
Great view of Boston, pleasant hikes and dog friendly
A great forest with a summit view and a farm next door.
Calm and green
Great low - med walking trails
Trails are kind of narrow and tight. But its great for nature walks and views at its peak.
Beautiful nature
Highest point in Lexington, great spot for a stroll
Lovely
Had a great hike on Whipple Hill.
Pretty hill in the suburbs. Good for an afternoon walk or a picnic.
Small but nice, very hilly & rocky
Very well marked trails and nice scenery. Pretty small.
Nice to be out of sight and almost out of earshot of the world so close to home.
Great trails for walking, running, or riding.
Great Hiking a bit muddy
This is a small park that Google Maps makes slightly difficult to find by leading us to the entrance to a cul de sac of a housing development. In fact, there are two small parking areas. One is near the Johnson and Berkshire. We parked at other one on Summer near Lowell. We stopped here for the first time last weekend. We covered most of it in about an hour. This is not a particularly attractive park though it is interesting. There are what seemed to be unusually tall trees. There is a pond and a few vernal pools at the moment. The terrain transitions between dirt and mud and rocks.Coming in from the south, the trail was straight and fairly well marked and flat. Heading to and from the Summit, the trail varies with rock terrain to meander around. There is a view with a canopy of trees going for miles. Hardly a rooftop to be found anywhere and a nice reward for an easy to slightly moderate hike. The trail markers to and from the summit were confusing. Even though there are just a few trails, it wasnt always clear when you are heading further into the park or back where you came from.I was very disappointed to see how poorly other visitors are treating this location. Along the first half-mile, we found dog waste left behind in plastic bags in 3 different areas. Another half-mile later, another pile without the bag. No doubt this will deter some from visiting but hopefully shame others to being more considerate.
Love the views
Whipple
Quite place..!!
Great for dogs.
Expected more Whipple, got more Hill
Its quiet and peaceful
Wilderness in the middle of Lexington! More challenging terrain than other Lexington conservation areas.
