Never been in my whole life... what have I missed? A great walk up a hill that keeps going... gets the heart pumping... so much nature... and right smack dab in the middle of Lewiston. No dogs allowed. I prefer not having to worry about stepping in something softy and stinky.A great walk! Do it!
My “home” hiking trails so I am a bit partial..... love the hills and how well the trails are marked. The fire places and animal ( deer, ducks, turtles) just wonderful!!!! You can have a quick hike or weave through the trails and make the hike last for a couple of hours. Add a weighted pack and do the steep trails and you work up an awesome sweat !!!I so enjoy hiking here !!!!
Love this place. Absolutely so pleasant and peaceful! Great active people go there and honest people. I lost car keys and cash there. All of my belongings got placed into the lost and found mailbox on the post board at the beginning of the trail. Also located in the mailboxs next to the lost and found one are maps and different facts of animals. Nothing but good memories when I go there!
One of my favorite places to walk. Really grateful to the caretakers of this beautiful stretch of land! I know they are mostly volunteers.
A days worth of hiking in 1 area. Benches along many of the trails. Open fields aswell as wooded paths.
Great trails for walking, running and biking. Beautiful setting year round. A few cool fire places, both BIG and small.
We took our 5 year old and two year old on the yellow trail and they had a blast. Beautiful, easy hike on a fairly clean trail. Plenty of critters playing right off the trail that seemed pretty used to humans.
Our COVID backyard. Having this sanctuary close has been amazing.
Great trails, clean and no hunting
Love it amazing trails. Multiple difficulties. And well maintained.
Beautiful spot but wish they allowed dogs
Awesome place to go with your family and get out into the wilderness a little bit, pretty easy walking on most trails.
Very cool to take kids for a peaceful walk
Its a nice short walk
Nice peaceful walk. Wooded trails. Few ponds. Fire place or 2. Maybe 3. Different areas.
Awesome family place to go
Great place to reflect.
Bring bug spray! Clean trails, good healthy fun
Walking trails in the woods close to the city. Easy walking suitable for younger kids. Beautiful at all seasons!
Pretty, nice place to explore...lots of trails..intresting remnants of its past
Went to this place as a young Cub Scout... now age seventy-two and still love to walk up to the fireplace and come back down by the pond. Have taken all my grand children up there over the years. Have never seen many birds but never have gone up there looking for them. Been there in all seasons...best is the fall. Wish I could still take my dogs up but no dogs allowed any longer.Love Thorncrage!
Its a beautiful pocket of land with well-kept trails and landmarks. Its the kind of place you can get lost for hours in and not even care.
Always enjoy walking through woods here. Any time of year
Love it so peace full! Wish there are more of these throughout Maine
Nice big area, feels like exploring a jungle. Good hiking place
I have been going to this Sanctuary for year and It is a gem in Lewiston always plenty of parking and 3 distict trails that are beautiful in all season. The only reason this isnt a 5 star review is because there is a no dog policy which I understand due to it being a bird sanctuary.
I love this place. Plenty of room to roam n if lucky never run into anyone else.
Went snowshoeing there after a snowfall and had a blast exploring some of the trails, the trails were clearly marked but you can go off path and still find your way back easily
Beautiful little park that allows you to get away from the hustle and bustle.
Beautiful hike with the grand babies
Clean, fun trails to walk. We had a blast with our 3 year old!
Great trail thats not far from LA has different paths and great views and spots to see. Check it out.
This place is great to enjoy nature and clear your mind. Its very relaxing and enjoyable. The kiss love it as well. Always a great place to visit anytime of the year.
The people i met there were very kind, they even helped me and my boyfriend jump our truck because our battery died and also gave us a pamphlet to another place and gave us a bird book! I enjoyed everything about the experience!
Rare location tucked in the middle of Urban City life.Preserved by the care and keeping of founding principles and tge respect of most everyone who comes here. Well marked trails, trail maps sitting areas...beautiful family experience quietly concealed from L/A hub bub...:)
Peaceful and relaxing
Great hike
Very nice trail so many to choose from. Wish dogs were allowed but still a great hike
If you want a place to walk and be in nature this is a great place
A perfect place to get exercise and some fresh air. A good place to see animals also.
There is a inner fire
First time snowshoeing, great trails.
Very beautiful place. Unfortunately, they do not allow dogs so I cannot go often.
Great place to enjoy the peace and quiet of nature
A huge tract of unspoiled land right in the city of Lewiston Maine.
Peaceful and relaxing. Nature at its best. Took trail during peak of autumn and words cannot describe the beauty
Great place to take a walk, nice places to explore, great in early summer and in the fall. Among the trees is where I lost myself and found myself all at once here. Such a peacefully serene place.
Perfect nature walk. Many Awesome different types of birds.
Great place for a quick or long hike. Its nice having this little gem in town.
Great fall colors,nice relaxing walk
Very peaceful
Well marked, easy trails in the shade of the forest. I have only been twice and have encountered deer both times! New favorite for walking exercise.
The sound of silence!
Great place to unwind and enjoy nature within city limits.
What a beautiful sanctuary! Very well maintained and maps and information pamphlets are available for free. I dont know why Ive never visited before but its now on my list. Interesting fact: The highest point in Lewiston is in Thorncrag.
Beautiful place, nice trails. Thorncrag = birdwatching, picnicking, hiking, walking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, sledding, skating, nature photography
Beautiful place for a walk.
Fun Place to go sledding
Great trails, wonderful place to go for a hike. I enjoy the trail markers they have the designated difficulties for walkers, this helps when going for a hike with people with disabilities or physical ailments (like myself). Beautiful and well maintained. The only improvement I would like to see if better maintenance of ponds, as well as a spruce up of the trail markers, as some of the less used trails can be hard to follow.
A beautiful place for a short hike.
A quaint little park that can be covered in just a few hours
Beautiful area, plenty of parking.
Wonderful place for walking and meditation. Amazing bird watching as well. A historic legacy towards land stewartship.
Its a very clam place. A nice place to just take a walk injoy nature.
I absolutely love hiking there. I havent been in a few years, but plan on doing a hike this spring.
Very nice, family friendly. Awesome volunteers.
Beautiful & calming
Great for exploring. Many different trails and ponds. Bringing a child here is a good idea. Many frogs and beautiful scenery.
A nice hike through a variety of habitats. Pretty busy when I was there which may have contributed to the few birds seen. But the power line trail was a nice treat--saw a Fox Sparrow and a White-throated Sparrow.
Big hill
Beautiful. But dont go off the path walking through feilds- ticks.
Great place for a walk, nicely marked trails.
Great place to relax and take a walk.
Great place to hike
The trails were very icy when I went and there was no birds or people in sight. Very peaceful. Looking forward to going back when everything is in bloom. Liked the stone circle fireplace in the center of the trails.
Nice hiking place but the leaves need to be cleared off the trails..its slippery..
Nice place to decompress and enjoy nature
MUST WEAR A LOT OF TICK REPELLENT HERE.Please be careful here and check yourself thoroughly afterwards. The place is infested with ticks that carry Lyme Disease. I’ve been dealing with Lyme for 10 months now. I had 4 ticks on me after a walk there in March 2018. I only found 3 of them that day and one was hidden on the back of my thigh which left the classic bullseye rash.Beautiful & relaxing place to explore, just wear repellent if you go, please.
A very pleasant place for a winter hike.
If you like a great hike, biking or just a family picnic, this would be the place to do it. Its also a big thing for bird watchers.
Great place to walk. Watch out for ticks.
There are not many things to do these days that are free, so this is a delightful find. The area has trails to follow. A beautiful walk in nature so close by. A favorite of the locals.
Nice, quiet place to take a stroll in nature. Well kept, the rest rooms were locked tho.
Peaceful, blissful and relaxing. Worth a visit if youre looking for the best nature walks around
Its a beautiful, privately owned sanctuary perfect for walking and appreciate nature. Its calm with nice walking paths that are marked fairly well.
One of The best spots in Lewiston
