I’ve been wanting to take my 3-year-old here for ages and we finally got the chance. They have tons of interactive exhibits and bugs to see, plus little crafts as well. The butterfly area itself was beautiful and fun to see (it’s humid, so be prepared for that) My boy was a little scared of the butterflies when they flew close, but he was fascinated as well. I think his favorite thing was the play place area. There are some features and exhibits that are closed because of COVID, but it’s definitely still worth a visit.
There are lots of things to do here. My daughter had no interest in insects before we went here, after she had her entomologist Barbie giving lessons to her other toys on insect facts. Seeing all the butterflies in cocoons is pretty cool too. Make sure you go earlier in the day when all the butterflies in the biosphere are awake. The childrens play area is really cool and entertaining as well.
The kids absolutely love going to the butterfly aquarium, as they call it. There are fantastic exhibits both in and outside of the butterfly room. The staff is knowledgeable and provide lots of fun and interesting information. The indoor playground provides a nice little break for adults while the kids run and play.
I brought my kids and my parents along. I was surprised by how much my parents enjoyed it. The kids had fun but there is plenty of fun stuff for adults as well. We spent probably 2 hours here. Others might be done in 30 minutes. All depends on whether you find bugs and plants fascinating.
Ive been wanting to go here for a while. I read that the butterflies were most active around noon so thats when we went. True story! They were fluttering everywhere. Blue butterflies are my favorite and are on my bucket list to see in South America so seeing them flying around was great! Downside is you never got to get close to one or hold it but my friend who went in the afternoon said they were able to hold a lot of them. I loved the butterfly garden we took a 4yr old and all the exhibits and displays were fun for each of us. Definitely going again sometime. It was very peaceful.
The Butterfly museum is so much fun! So many beautiful butterflies plus way more! The environment is so lovely to walk around, hearing the water, checking out the amazing plants and flowers, the foliage itself is fantastic, then tons of butterflies all around, it is so fun. The ONLY downfall is the heat, but it obviously needs to be that way for the butterflies, its not a con, just unforgettable, but very easy to get over. Very enjoyable activity!
Definitely a great and friendly place to visit with children! The Butterfly Biosphere at Thanksgiving Point’s Plaza provides a learning experience for childrens and adults alike. It is home to over a thousand butterflies from around the world. In addition to many species of butterflies, it also has also many species of tarantulas, beetles and many more insects. The jungle like climate at the biosphere makes it a unique place to share with children the wonders of the diversity of places in this world and the beauty of nature.
The butterflies were a big hit with my kids! We enjoyed the biosphere twice during our three hour visit. All the variety of butterflies inside flying around and the ones on display were spectacular. They release butterflies a few times a day, but with covid it is TBD. They have a kids area with a slide and lots other things to see. There is also a huge ant farm. Bathrooms were clean - always important when you have little kids.
Very cool place! So many butterflies in the biosphere. Its so fun to watch them release true newly hatched butterflies. The new leave cutter ant exhibit is amazing. Unfortunately its way overpriced. Its a lot smaller than the other Thanksgiving Point venues but costs the same or more. $65 for me and my 3 kids.
5 stars. Lots of things for kids to do before you even get to the biosphere. The kids and I all had a great time. It was very informative. The biosphere was full of beautiful tropical foliage, and the butterflies were very friendly. It was hot and humid in the biosphere so wear layers if youre coming in from the cold.
As always, we had a blast! The kids love that every time we go, I always have butterflies hitching a ride on me. Beware of certain displays if you have arachnophobia as badly as I do...lol!!
An awesome place for kids and students. The butterflies are managed so well. You will find different varies of butterfly here. Good place for family hang-out.
Its a fun place. The actual butterfly biospere is really ideal, having butterfly chasing each other fly around you. The museum part is also interesting. I really liked the live ant display with tunnels running along the wall. Its a great place for kids to learn about bugs (just maybe stear away from the tarantulas if you kids not into that).
What a GREAT HABITAT for all those very special butterflies! State of the Art technology, very clean and very knowledgeable staff! If youre passing through YA GOTTA SEE IT! EXPRESSIVE!!
This was such a fun experience for my family, and me. My 6 year old was able to hold the butterflies several times during our visit, which made for a very happy girl.
Great family activity when the weather doesnt permit outdoor fun. Lots of butterflies in the dome that fly all around the patrons. I love that they have food areas where the butterflies seem to congregate. Besides the actual butterflies, theres lots of learning activities for the young ones to include an indoor playground!
Great place. Lots of butterflies and a good variety. Employees were kind and helpful. They have really good interactive educational displays for kids. Keep in mind it gets pretty hot and humid in the actual butterfly pavillion. Dress accordingly.
Great for children. Great in the winter because it’s super warm inside. Don’t bring your jackets or sweaters cause you’re not gonna need them. There are a lot of interactive activities for the kids. Pretty safe environment and good for all ages. Bring your cameras to take pictures of the butterflies. They also have a bunch of other insects and arachnids.
We love the butterflies, but the real gem of this place are all the live bugs and spiders!! Just phenomenal how many different kinds they have!
Great place for children and avid nature lovers! So many beautiful butterflies. It is a little smaller than I anticipated but still lovely from my grandkids and me!
This place is a lot of fun for kids. Its clean, lots of room to run around. They have bugs shows 4 times a day. The indoor playground area is huge and has dress up costumes, an area for crawling babies, building blocks, a huge slide and more! Like all the venues at Thanksgiving Point, single day entry is very pricey. $20 for an adult. It is really worth it to get the annual pass. $275 for the whole family for a year. And then the next year you renew the pass for only $250. I also like that it is open late, till 8PM. Perfect for winter and to let the kids run around until bedtime. They also have a huge butterfly Biosphere where you can see live butterflies. All around a great place for families. We come here at least once a week.
I have a hard time walking without help so I use a stroller just to give me something to lean on and they wont allow strollers. I understand completely though. I liked it but couldnt stay long as my family had to stay with the stroller.
We went when it opened and its seriously so so cool. Has amazing hands on learning experiences. Having the location by the freeway was genius because my kids talk about going and the things they love about going. They remember details I didnt expect. I love the people who work there. They are so hands on. Positive. Helpful. Kind. Every single time. Its so nice to go to a place where truly this community wants my children to learn as much as my husband and I hope for them too.
A little pricey but a good fun learning experience. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. It was a fun Saturday though. Its surprised me how many people are afraid of the butterflies that were happily flying around. Quite the opposite of their nature.
Butterflies are amazing. Many of them have like a 6 inch wing span. Very impressive. Exhibits outside are fun to play with and learn about butterflies.
A magical place that has a little something for everyone, regardless of age. Its so satisfying to have an enormous butterfly land softly on your shoulder out of nowhere! Its perfect for play dates with kids, fun / romantic dates, etc. The biosphere is definitely the centerpiece of it all, but they also have a lot of other displays containing spiders, beetles, cockroaches, ants, stick bugs, and more! As my husband put it, it helps teach you more about insects while getting rid of that fear factor that so many people have with them!
Definitely worth going and spending a couple hours to see everything they got. In the later afternoon you can pay a few bucks to set a newly hatched butterfly free in their biosphere. Then theres bug shows throughout the day where you can hold a harmless bug. They have many small and large insects to look at in cages. A small play area for kids and toddlers. Several interactive exhibits and a crafts area. Its free if you have the Thanksgiving Point pass. I enjoyed the 2 and a half hours we spent there.
Anyone with a fascination for insects needs to go here! The butterflies of course are amazing, but the other exhibits are also very interesting. We visit this place nearly weekly!
Such an incredible experience for my family. My 4 & 6 year old boys loved identifying the butterflies, as well as exploring the many exhibits with creepy crawlies. Wonderful time and we will be back!
Great for kids! Little pricey. Has some interesting Butterfly Biology! Google Black Fly Creations For Top Outdoor Gear And Adventure Videos Hosted on YouTube!
The place itself is okay. I give 5 stars because they have employees actively telling people to put masks over their face. Other places won’t do that but employees are active in keeping masks over the nose and mouth of people.
At first the venue strikes you as much smaller than the other attractions at Thanksgiving Point, that being said, you could easily spend over two hours here. The kids will stay busy for sure and have a lot to do. The play area is really nice and has benches for the grown ups to take a break. The butterflies themselves are magical and if I could stand the heat/humidity Id spend the whole day in the biosphere.
This was an amazing experience for our 6 year olds birthday. It was full of exotic butterflies with a great staff. My family had an amazing time visiting and we would definitely love to go back again. We saw a lot of butterflies and had a few land on us which my kids loved.
Crazy number of butterflies. Nice environment.
Great place to see beautiful butterflies. Its sad to see their wings falling apart though from dying off and being picked up too im sure.
Really cool!! So many different species of butterflies in such a small enclosure. Easy to see everything in just minutes or take your time looking around for specific species.
Super cool experience. There is a large playland for the kiddos to run and play. The butterflies are plentiful and friendly and the staff is really helpful. 10/10 would totes do it again. Cheers!
Great place for kids. Make sure to be there for the 11am or 5pm butterfly release. Well worth it.
This place is great! My kids had a blast. They have a bunch of interactive engaging stations. Very clean and family friendly.
This is the best place to take your family that isnt the mountains, as far as Im concerned. Its a marvel, and everyone within the biosphere walks about with a smile on their face. My face hurts by the end of each trip.y kids love it, as does my wife, and I probably love it more than any of them. Entertaining, magical and educational. I cant praise this place enough.
Pretty small for the price you pay to get in. The butterfly dome is really cool, though.
Loved it! Its definitely worth it, and I appreciate so much that its included for members. We didnt make an appointment and were able to walk in, but call ahead to make sure, especially on busy days. The reason for appointments is because they only allow a certain amount of people to walk through the actual biosphere itself which causes a line in the facility. We had to wait about 30 minutes, but there were things to look at while we waited which made the time not seem so long. Once we were in the enclosure, it was very humid, so dont wear hot clothes! It is beautiful, full of active butterflies and colorful flowers. There is no time limit once you are in the habitat, so we took our time enjoying this little slice of summer in Utahs dry winter. Other great parts of the museum (for lack of a better word) are a large treehouse play area with a slide and some great interactive learning areas. We really enjoyed it and would recommend it to all ages. We will be back!
You can make butterflies sit on your fingers. children will be thrilled. many colorful varieties of butterflies. you can try identifying them using the cards they hand out.
There’s WAY more to do here than just look at butterflies. The biosphere is gorgeous and filled with so many different plants and vegetation. There’s mango trees with ripe fruit, water features, plenty of walking paths and of course BUTTERFLIES!There’s also a reading room where it is stocked full of books about everything creepy crawly. My kids favorite part was looking at all the other bugs in the terrariums and doing the crafts.
It was a lot of fun, great displays and interesting pieces that really get people involved. It is definitely a perfect place for children, but adults can get a lot of enjoyment out of it too. The only thing holding it back from a perfect review is the price, which I understand is most likely for conservation efforts, but is still too high in my opinion. ($20 for an adult ticket)
Such a fabulous place! Great play areas- something for everyone from toddlers to bigger kids. Then you can go into the actual butterfly habitat and it is so amazing! Sometimes you can even gently have a butterfly on your hand. Completely beautiful!
I love this place! So many things to do and see. My 2 year old loves the butterflies and the play area with the huge slide :) I especially love going in the winter because the biosphere is so nice and warm. Its like taking a little tropical vacation!!!!
Wow... what a well planned and thought out place. There is a fee to visit, but this place is well worth the cost of entrance. The building in no way is anything to rave about in size but the minor detail and objects for kids to play and explore on or in was done pretty well. There is a slide, a rock ball to push and measure the strength of the kids, a learning place, games to play, there is a presentation done by employees about bugs and then the there is the butterflies. Another WOW, the butterflies, now the downside here is plan ahead, the biosphere where the butterflies is humid, I was sweating like a dawg in there but that was because I didn’t plan ahead. So many butterflies flying around and landing on kids and just all the smiles are awesome, brought my three kids and it was one of the best places they have been to in Utah. Definitely recommend a visit. Also Mens bathroom well kept for a public bathroom and the mural in the hallway done in tile is awesome.
Flutter-by for a visit!Did not have any specific expectations. Always fascinated by butterflies. But don’t worry for those who want something a little more there are plenty of other insect, creepy crawlers to entertain the entire family...especially for those who like the eight legged *hee-bee - gee - bee’s* kind.Display cases of these critters live in action. Other hands on things for kids to do.When your skin is done crawling...head into the biosphere itself.Butterfly galore...and amazing. If you’re lucky you may even be able to hold one.The kids had a great time. Was very happy with our experience and would go back for sure.
One-time visit, unless you need a break from the UT cold and want to hang out in agreenhouse! It was cool to see butterflies (there were plenty), but the walkways were congested. Very crowded. Same with kids play area. But overall extremely well-done. A lot of thought and care went into designing the exhibits and biosphere. Notes: $20 per adult. No strollers allowed. Not all parts are ADA accessible. Very hot and humid inside so be prepared to layer down. (Fun fact: butterfly life spans are about 2 weeks. They get new butterfly cocoons and hatch them in a lab, and release them into the biosphere, instead of butterflies laying eggs ️caterpillars ️eating all the foliage at unsustainable rates️cocoons️butterflies. So basically The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a true story. The biosphere wouldn’t be able to keep enough food for all the baby caterpillars. So they order new butterfly cocoons from FedEx every week.)
Such a fun place to go to. They are way less strict with things now then when they first started. We love going here and seeing all the butterflies flying around and learning about them. The Butterfly Biosphere is definitely a fun thing to see with the family. I definitely recommend the Butterfly Biosphere at Thanksgiving Point.
Great experience. Lovely place to be.
My kids really loved it here. They thought it was so cool to see the butterflies up close. Just know that the butterflies like it warm and humid, so dress accordingly if you plan on entering the butterfly habitat. My daughter also really enjoyed the play ground area and the really tall slide. It was a fun family activity, and we will be back again.
We loved taking our nephews here. They (and us) were amazed you could get the butterflies to land right on your finger (or face).
This is such a lovely place for kids, yet theres plenty to keep intellectually inclined adults happy as well. I love the variety of insects and arachnids. Theres so much here beyond the butterflies. If you like creepy crawlies in any capacity, this place is for you.
It was such a beautiful, peaceful place. The biosphere was filled with plants I had never seen before. It was like walking into a tropical forest. Watching a variety of brilliantly colored butterflies glide around my kids was a treat! The looks on their faces were priceless as we ventured around the pathways.
This is a beautiful exhibit! Thanksgiving Point hit another one out of the park. The plants and butterflies are amazing. I loved the interactive exhibits too. Highly recommended!
A delightful and magical exhibit! It offers a break from day to day monotony! Dress light, it is humid.Kind, compassionate, and educated staff. Play grounds for small children.
First time going and it was amazing. There are so many things to look at and enjoy. My wife and I went for the first time and loved it. We dont even have kids!
My mother loves butterflies. This was the perfect birthday gift. My 7 and 9 yr old boys thought theyd be bored, but there was so much for them to do. Worth the membership!
Very cool exhibit! There are tons of butterflies flying around in the biosphere. It was very interesting to see so many different kinds with such beautiful colors. There are other activities for the kids like an indoor playground and butterfly structures for them to climb and play on. The other creatures are very interesting as well. They have several spiders and insects on display. The hands on science activities are great to help kids learn more about insects and spiders. It was a beautiful learning experience for me and my 5 year old!
It was amazing! Its a smaller exhibit so it can get crowded, but if you go around dinner time (5-6pm) its emptied out and very nice! The butterfly exhibit was so fun you can pick up and hold the butterflies. They also have a play ground, live bug and critter experiences (hold bugs, pet snakes, etc.) We loved it and could have stayed for hours longer.
My children and I loved it!!!!! It was enchanting walking through and seeing all the butterflies!!! During the summer it was really hot in there, cooler when we went back in October.
What a great place to enjoy natures beauty!
Fantastic place to go on a dreary winter day. Great, friendly and informative staff. Safe and cozy for kids. Oh, and the butterflies are beautiful and friendly too.
This place was so much fun! The building is small, but every square inch has been filled with bugs of all varieties and interactive activities. The butterflies are of course the focal point, but the leaf cutter ant exhibit was so a major highlight. It’s on the expensive side, but well worth it. And they clearly put social distancing and sanitation during COVID-19 as a priority!
Great place for kids. Some good, hands on exhibits. A large, multi level play area. And of course, the butterfly bioshpere. They have a lot of Blue Morphos, which are fun to watch, and a good variety of other kinds. They have some laminated charts to show you the different kinds that are there and to help you identify them. The staff were friendly and helpful, and pointed out a few we might not have otherwise seen.
SO COOL! It was absolutely amazing! Had so much fun with my family seeing all the different butterflies! Outside the biosphere they have a play area for kids and other bugs on exhibit! They also have a fun electronic ant game where kids use buttons to have their ants steal food from a picnic.
Fascinating, educational, and thoroughly enjoyable. They carefully regulate the number of people they let in at a time, and strollers are not allowed in the Biosphere, which makes the experience so much more enjoyable for everyone! The variety of butterflies is awesome, and the scenery is wonderful... Its as humid as the Amazon in there so wear light, loose clothing and dont bother doing your hair! Wear light teal, purple, or yellow if you want butterflies to spontaneously land on you... They seemed to be attracted to those colors.
Took our kids here for my 4 year olds birthday. They absolutely loved it! My favorite part is that they control access so you can only come if you have an appointment. This means its never overly crowded which can be a big negative at other places like the Discovery museum. There are quite a few hands on things that the kids can do, as well as a big indoor play area in addition to the actual butterfly biosphere. Well be back for sure!
Let them little legs walk you right up to extravagant and vibrant butterflies that flutter right in front of your eyes. Once you step through the doors at the Biosphere you are lifted to an experince kids and adults could once only dream of experiencing. You see a world of insects in a wonderful climate controled facility. Kids and Adults learn and discover the mysteries of the bug kingdom and its all done in a safe and fun environment. Take that rent money and run the kids over to the Butterfly Biosphere as soon as possible.
Highly recommend this place if you have young kids! Theres an indoor playground, with a toddler area and my child loves spending time there. The biosphere is amazing. I would recommend going during the day (morning to early afternoon), the butterflies tend to be more active during those hours. Ive been there one time at night and you can hardly see any of them flying. Also be aware that the biosphere is very warm and humid. Be prepared! I usually wear a T shirt going in and just bring a jacket with me if its cold outside.
Bummer that so much is closed but still fun
More than just butterflies, but that is obviously the best part. Huge green house full of them.Outside of that there is a tree house, giant slide, group activities with bugs to hold, etc.
Great biosphere, fun museum! This is one the entire family can enjoy. The staff is really great and will teach you tons of fun things about butterflies and insects. They will let you hold the butterflies and will even teach you the best way to invite one to hitch a ride with you. Keep in mind that the biosphere can get a little warm and humid to keep conditions just right for the butterflies, so if youre going to be dressed warm, I recommend wearing layers so you can take sweaters, coats, etc off before going in.
This place was so cool!! Its pretty pricey to get in, but its so cool once youre there. You walk into this massive greenhouse with butterflies flying all over the place and really neat plants to look at. Its super humid inside, so make sure you dont wear heavy layers or youll get pretty warm.
People were out there taking care of the roads and aesthetic of the place. It is up to date and the staff are nice and come right up to you. The butterfly part itself was very cool. Expect it to be humid. Play place was great! Wish there were more bathrooms/hand sanitizer stations. Great place though.
A place like no other. If you luv butterflies and beautiful setting g s, this is the place for the entire family. There are employees there to assit with helping identify these precious wonders of the world. Must see!! You will not leave ungrateful from seeing and possible holding one of these majestic creatures
Really neat! We had butterflies landing on us and there were tons of things for the kids to do. We brought kids ages 11 months to almost 7 and they had a blast.
Definitely better to go when its warmer because all the butterflies and moths are more active.
Lots of insects great place to take childern other than having to keep a mask on all the time and it being 100 % humidity and over 100 degrees in temp. Even the employees were sympathetic to the mask situational restraints
Lots of bug facts and display stations. There is an area to go in with the butterflies, a giant ant farm, kid play area and interactive games.
So many fun things to do. Butterflies are amazing so many different kinds and colors. Fun interactive things for the kids to do.
I absolutely loved going into the butterfly biosphere and seeing the way their awesome multitude of plants were arranged. The exhibits are really nice to look at as well! Its not something I would go to *again* but it was worth the money on our visit. Its a great place to bring your kids. We went in the evening on a weekday and didnt find it to be too crowded at all!
Went to visit Thanksgiving Point last week in Utah and it was a pleasant experience. My daughter enjoyed the butterfly biosphere where we got to see a variety of butterflies, bugs and fun interactive games. Definitely a nice place to visit if youre in the area or passing through to Salt Lake City, Utah.
I recommend buying a membership to Thanksgiving Point if you plan on going to all of the museums. There is no way to visit them all in one day without being completely overwhelmed. We don’t live in UT anymore but go at least quarterly and I have loved visiting the Biosphere each time. The kids LOVE it too! Be sure to check out their website to find out about special events and demos before you plan your trip. Certain activities only take place on specific days.
Pretty cool place to visit to see all of the butterflies flying around, colorful blurs when trying to take their picture.
So fun! My little girl had such a cool experience with the butterflies. She really enjoyed using the magnifying glass and looking up really closely to the butterflies. The animals shows are really fun too.
Really a beautiful experience. Walking among the butterflies is magical. The exhibits are cool too that are outside. I feel that the price is a bit much however, $20 per person to basically see a handful of exhibits and to hang out in a greenhouse with butterflies flying around you. Its a great one time visit, but I dont know how many times Ill return in the future.
Great fun place for toddlers to climb and play. My nephew and granddaughter had fun running around with their magnifying glasses looking at things in the butterfly room.
So cool! More than just butterflies! Its a whole bug experience! They have a ton of fun things to look at and do. My son doesnt really like the big biosphere where the love butterflies are but there was not than enough stuff for him to do outside of there.
We love going here. Plenty for the entire family to do! They have a play zone for the kids, lots of bugs and interactive activities. Its loads of fun!
Amazing experience! Its new so it is still expanding in some areas but it is well worth the visit. Also good news that more is to come
In the area on vacation and decided to try it out. The actual butterfly area is amazing!! The are so many butterflies and different varieties. The kids enjoyed it too.
Beautiful facility. Went on a $2 Tuesday. The biosphere would have been a better experience if there was a mandatory film all had to watch on caring for the butterflies. Watched many children and adults ripping butterflies off of plants and leaving the sidewalk to grab them. Just no respect. Saw many dying, many with broken wings, etc. My 3 year old enjoyed it as we kept her away from others not respecting wildlife and as a few landed on our group throughout the experience. I wouldnt pay $20 to come here...but it was worth the $2 to see what it was all about.
This was such a fun interactive experience! I not sure that it would be worth the normal $20 price tag per person. But, $2 Tuesdays in August are awesome!
This was a very fun experience, it felt like walking into another world and it was beautiful, almost unreal. Have a big drink of cold water before walking in though, as the heat and humidity within the biosphere can be a little tiring. I was in awe during the whole time and really enjoyed looking at the butterflies with all their vivid colors.
Such a cool experience! So many butterflies, insects and cool things to see.
We love checking out the butterflies, it is also a great activity in the winter
Really great experience. Beautiful butterflies everywhere. This is fun for all ages. They also have release events at certain times that look to be really fun.
