First time mountain biking, and it was the perfect place to start out. Just drops and turns. However, it was quite muddy, and there were many instances where I had to dismount to cross areas that were rocky. It also seemed like the course was a bit short. Other than that, it was easily accessible from the trail and a very beautiful property, with stunning views of the nearby creek(s).
Amazing get away to mother nature in the middle of Ashburn that is fast becoming a concrete jungle of urbanization. Nice way to get there is to park on W&OD parking lot off Belmont Ridge (look out for a large cell tower) and bike to the trail area (1 mile). There seems to be quite a lot of use of the trails since we observed a bunch of energy bar wrappers, old socks, t-shirts etc. We hope to get back to do some clean up and return glory to mother nature. Great hike in the park with a 1 mile circuit that keeps the promise of a great get away. My 5 year old enjoys the adventure that nature has to offer. Access to the creek with stone bridges to cross across make it an exciting weekend or summer evening activity. It took an hour to finish the circuit. The trails are also designated mountain bike choices.
Overall trails are well maintained. Could benefit from a bit more marking of side trails and main path.Minimal areas of trash seen, though looked recent.Getting to it was a bit tricky, need to park near the W&OD trail and walk about 10 minutes down.
Locked gate. We used Waze to direct us to the parking area. Went past it to water treatment plant (dead end) so doubled back and found a locked gate & no trespassing signs. Much appreciated if a reader can post alternate directions or address for the trailhead. Wed like to try it another time.
Nothing really fancy, but a pleasant walk through the thick of the woods along a very narrow nature trail that 3/4 of the time is alot of zigzaging. You better have your GPS or Google Map to sure you are staying on the primary trail. Several times there were forks along the trail ( few were simply a shortcut for the zigzag trail).Nice view of the Sycolin Creek down a short side trail.
Very nice but too short a distance only 2.5 miles
The terrain is very wild on the western half of the trail. But the creeks were swimmable if you are a talented swimmer
The kids loved the mini bridges over the muddy sections. You have to walk on the W&O trail to get there. It goes by a nice little creek.
Nice hiking area.
Short trails which can get muddy but a nice break from the trail.
Lovely place. Especially after rain :)
The trails are run out, and you could tell people has been riding in the mud, as the ruts were at least thirteen inches deep. Nice place, however it could definitely use some maintaining. Great ride for little kids its what I used or ride when I was little, so if your looking for a challenging ride or a ride you could lap many times this isnt the trail for you. Happy Riding!!
Really nice Forest trails for horse back riding, mountain biking, and hiking/trail running. It runs along goose and syclion creeks where they mere at goose Creek. There is a lot of trash so I will try to clean it up as I go visit. This place is only accessible off of the WO&D trail off Belmont ridge road parking lot
Great trail ride and beautiful scenery
Hidden gem on W&OD trail, just past Ashburn towards Leesburg. easy hike
Good for hicking, just off the bike trail.
Nice little dog walk or hiking, biking area.
Great place for a walk.
Very enjoyable trail. It was nice and relaxing to bike through there.
Great place to go to get a sense of the geology of eastern Loudoun county.
What a trash pit. Took my kids there to do a little fishing... Mountain bike trails looked fair. We got to the Goose Creek side and there was nothing but trash, trash and more trash. Fishing bait packages, beer cans, chip bags, sandwich wrappers more tackle packages strewn from one spot to another. The tree cover made it very tough to cast your rods. Then we noticed there were bugs covering the whole creek... No fish to eat them we found. Then o. The way out there was a health advisory posted to a tree telling of how unhealthy the fish are in the creek.
Nice course with a few different routes. Lots of turns and a few step downs.
Excellent park
Never went there
This trail does not seem to be maintained at all. Not really suitable for a mountain bike due to very overgrown and unmarked trail segments. In some places I had to push through thick vegetation walking my bike just to get through. There was also a section with deep muddy ruts that the bike couldnt get through. Id suggest walking this one, since its now basically a deer path rather than a biking trail.
Way to challenging for me, but for those who know how to handle a mountain bike on rough terrain, Im sure its something to look forward to.
If you live in Ashburn/Leesburg or just passing through on W&OD, then you should make a stop here for a quick and fun ride. Its nothing very technical, but it is one of the only trails in the area. The trail is pretty narrow, as the vegetation has grown over the sides. The only part of the trail that is basically gone is the grass straight away that parallels W&OD. There is a lot of mud on the far side even after weeks of no rain and 90+ temps, so be prepared to slog through even after light rains. Luckily, the rest of the trail drains well.As for what to expect, a couple of root littered downhills, a few rocky uphills, low branches, and some mud. I took my 8 and 11 year old on their first trail ride here, and they did great. The 8 year old did have some trouble climbing two steep-ish hills, but he was on a 20 single speed. If one of the local mountain bike clubs sponsored this site and did some maintenance and fix the mud issue on the backside, it would really make a big difference. One last thing, wear bug spray! There are a lot of ticks, and the overgrown vegetation doesnt help the situation. This is usually pretty bad in the spring. We didnt have any ticks on us in late August, but we had a lot of insect repellent on.
Nice lil quick trail nothing serious
Quiet place to hike or ride
Poorly maintained and very boring
