I take a lot of bird/ wildlife photos. I can say that this place almost always gives me a good chance to get a good photo of some amazing birds!Best places are right of parking entrance. There are two or three ponds, that all ways has water birds. I like going on week days, when there are less loud families with kids. Tip, if your quiet, you will see more wildlife!

Its a fantastic place with miles of foot and bike trails, abundant wildlife, and an immense diversity of plants. From an elevated viewing platform I saw a white heron, larks, and a few other birds. This place is well worth a detour while traveling along I-70 between Topeka and Kansas City.

You can spend hours exploring this these wetlands. I went and saw at least a hundred frogs and about 15 or so snakes. I also saw a baby turtle. This is a good place if you like to watch birds too.

They didnt have enough trail maps. The north trail was disappointing, because we walked along the highway. They need to have a sound barrier or a row of trees. Also, they have orange trails on the map that are not labeled. The boardwalk trail was nice, saw some fish trying to an animal that was trying to hide the undergrowth. Saw 2 grey herons, 1 bald eagles, 2 young bold eagles, yellow butterflies or moths, and tiny species that looks similar to monarch butterflies, but possibly a moth. The mulberry trees where growing through the boardwalk, wildgrape vine was also taking some parts, and one willow tree was growing over the boardwalk as well. The boardwalk was not maintained for handicapped people at all.At the visitors center a lot of their specium plants have died and been overtaken by weedy species that arent native. Also, the wetlands does have a lot of non-native invasive species in the landscape.Seen it once and once is good enough.
