Was able to take my good friend who is mentally handicap. The zoo staff went above & beyond to make sure we had a great time. Which we did. All the animals were in high spirits and the penguins were belly sliding into the pool. A day that will me remembered. But I live close so Ill go again soon.
I have been going to this zoo since I was a small child, so over 40 years. I have seen it grow and evolve and I couldnt be more proud of them!! I wish this year, being their 100th year, was not affected by Covid, especially with baby Jaali, they would be bustling! I understand why the buildings are not open, but I do miss going inside for close ups of the big cats and seeing the birds and snakes and cotton topped tamarins! Hopefully next year! I went today to see Jaali and his parents before it gets too cold for them. It might not be a big zoo, but it is a good afternoon trip, solo or with family. Staff are always pleasant and love to answer any questions you might have about an animal.
We had a great time at the Potter Park Zoo. You could see employees sanitizing trash cans and people social distanced well. You can only go one way through the zoo and there are paw prints to follow. My 2.5 year old had fun at the playground too. Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy it in the shade at a table. The only thing is I wish we could have gone into the buildings to see those animals. Otherwise, I would highly recommend!
I took my grandchildren because with home schooling, I figured they needef a field trip. They were limiting the amount of people who entered, requiring a mask, had the paths marked one way, and strongly encouraging social distancing. It was a great experience!
From as a young 1 to a year ago to see change is normally good. I was very disappointed even my was to take my grandchildren there to reshare memories then have the balls too charge us from coming in out of town then to get not to mention student discounts but, no veterans really. if you have kid 7&under perhaps other wise to see what was once a great zoo watch discovery channel n donate to the zoo they need help
You could not go in any of the buildings to see animals because of the restrictions of the mandates put on Michigan for the pandemic by the governor... the price for admission was still the regular rate. There is a resident fee and a higher fee if you do not live in Lansing for admission cost. 60+ in age gets a discounted rate. The zoo is set up for one way traffic, 6ft distancing, mandatory mask wearing in most areas. Some exhibits even have signs stating only one family household can be in the area at a time. There were several animal exhibits closed, not sure if they no longer had that animal or what. There is a $5 parking fee additional to the admission fee. Plenty of parking space. Wheelchair accessible. The zoo has a fabulous open green area to enjoy with mature trees.
I went there on Tuesday, which is Bone Day. So the animals were excited to receive their weekly bone treats. Social distancing signs and mask signs were up. Friendly staff from entrance to exit. Small zoo, but loved the light foot traffic. Peacocks roam freely and its beautiful during the fall. Parking fee: $3 for same county residents, $5 for all others. Plus entrance fee unless you have a zoo card. Enjoy!
For a small zoo this was wonderful. All animals are well taken care of. You are greeted first by the bald eagles! From there all exhibits are natural and the animals look comfortable. The lion put on a great show for us. Glad I spent time there with my daughters family!
We are big fans of Potter Park Zoo. Even on a busy day theres plenty of room to roam and see the animals. Staff frequently sanitize high contact surfaces. The staff at the gift shop are very friendly too and are careful to limit the stores capacity.
We took a new born and a 16 month old. This zoo is the perfect size for a fun day! An added bonus the playground next to the parking lot was a major Hit! Very well maintained as well, cant wait to go back.
A good family time. Currently during covid-19 they have taken great precautions for everyones safety which is appreciated. Not what it was when I was a kid but its still a staple of lansing and good to visit.
Awesome zoo! Very clean and organized. The vulture is super cool! And baby rhino!
We love this place! Even with covid, they have found a way to make it an enjoyable experience for everyone!
Took our 1 yr old for his first visit to the zoo and It did not disappoint! There were awesome Halloween decorations through the park. The animals were all playing and our little one had so much fun! We definitely recommend this zoo.
The zoo is a great place to visit outdoors. Due to the pandemic, the zoo has one way traffic and you schedule appointments so the zoo is not too crowded. They also have hand sanitizer throughout the zoo. I felt they did a good job handling the pandemic. The zoo is a bit small, but can still provide an hour or two of leisurely enjoyment. Their gift shop too limits the number of people in at a time, making it feel safe.
It was great. The number of people inside the zoo is limited. You might have to wait, but people are exiting all day long also, so Our wait was maybe 10/15 mins. Signs ask for only one family group in an exhibit at a time. People were respectful of social distancing rules. It was a busy Free Grandparents Day, but organized so not crowded. Thank you Potter Park Zoo for a great family day.
We had a blast here! All the animals were out. Social distancing guidelines were in place and it was easy to navigate through which made it stress-free!
Absolutely amazing!!!! The animals are so happy. I love this place!!!
I celebrated my 45th birthday today at the zoo with my family. We absolutely loved it! Super friendly staff, clean, and fantastic selection of animals. My favorite, Luca, the American bald eagle!
Is a nice small zoo to take younger kids to! My 10 month old son had fun and seemed to enjoy him self.
We went as soon as they open to avoid a crowd. Kods dont understand social distance and parents may not make them adhere.Lots of one way signs and limit to one family per area to view. Once you go through you can go around again to catch anything you might have missed.Bring water, drinking fountains are closed. Wear comfortable shoes. Terrain is not always level so careful walking.Lots of animals to see.
We had the good fortune to visit this nice little Zoo last weekend. As a lifetime animal lover, I generally prefer smaller zoos. Although they dont have as much as larger zoos, you can usually get closer to the animals. This zoo is set in a beautiful wooded area. Theres plenty of parking and even on a Saturday afternoon, it was never crowded, which is a great selling point. Our favorite exhibit was the Tamarinds. Small white topped monkeys with some babies. Adorable, although I didnt get any pictures of them. The otter was a lot of fun too, swimming back and forth to the delight of us all. The lions, although napping through the heat of the day were beautiful. The rhinoceros is a very majestic creature.Exceptionally pleasant day visiting such a nice zoo.
Visited on a beautiful fall Saturday during Covid-19. The zoo was set up for social distancing with reminder signs and directions during the park. Additionally, there were hand sanitizing stations throughout the Zoo! Patrons were also respectful of social distancing and I did not see a person without a mask. Great experience during a difficult time.
The zoos October festival was awesome The one way directional signs on the floor worked exactly as advertised!
Didnt get to see everything due to the covid, but still seen some pretty cool animals today, and my granddaughter had a BLAST
Always enjoy going to this zoo. Went early in the day and the animals were much more lively. Potter Park did a great job of keeping the place safe to operate during COVID, but still able to enjoy the park!
Went to check brothers memorial bench and was very happy to see employees remembered him. he enjoyed every moment of donating his time to the zoo
Just gorgeous in the fall! We love the brand new elk viewing area
A great place for the price. Clean and well kept. Staff are friendly. Lots to do.Specially nice for Ingham county residents on Monday before noon because its free.
Great inexpensive family outing. Loved the baby rhino! Felt safe during the pandemic with the one way walk thru.
I always enjoy Potter Park when we visit out here. Due to corona the park is set up the best way possible. While we didnt spend as much time here as we usually would it was nice to get the kids doing something normal. Camel rides were even running and handled with safety and care in mind.
Not a very big zoo at all. But it was still funMy son loved it and thats all that matters. When I was a kid I remembered this being much bigger but as I got older it does seem a little smaller. The rhinos and penguins were a nice touch.
Potter park is a great zoo. Its definitely more geared towards younger kids, but its still fun for adults and older kids. They have a lot of different animals, and the atmosphere there is laid back and fun.
Nice medium sized zoo. Very clean and well maintained. Good place to visit during the pandemic, social distancing and fresh air. Quite inexpensive too!!
This is a nice smaller zoo. It has a nice selection of animals. The baby rhino and the river otters were a few highlights. It is during COVID-19 times that I visited the zoo. So some exhibits were closed and a mask is required for entry. Overall, a good experience.
They are well-organized and clearly committed to safety. Staff are visible and actively cleaning surfaces between visitors. Hand sanitizer is widely available. Water bottle filling stations throughout. They have a marked pattern through the zoo, but you can loop around it as many times as you like. Got there early on Sunday. Recommend it.
This is a great place to visit, especially with young kids. The zoo is not huge, which makes actually seeing all of it much easier than other places. It is also not quite as expensive. There are a lot of things to see and in recent years, there have been a fair amount of updates. We love the zoo!
Small zoo in a wonderfully green park with plenty of seating, grills and a playground area for the kiddies! The zoo is a perfect zoo for for children 10 and under. It’s small enough that they won’t likely complain of walking too much and the animals are kind of close to each other. Went on Zoo Days to day where entry is only $1 and parking is free. Friendly staff in ticket booth and throughout the park.
A local gem Ive been going to this zoo for forty years. Took the grandkids to the wonderlight show recently, highly recommended.
We are nice place to visit with the kids and family nice stuff and fun camel ride for $6
Baby rhino was adorable unfortunately alot was closed off due to covid
Potter Park Zoo is one of the best small zoos! Right now with Covid they are going above and beyond! They even gave us free water bottles at check in. There are cooling spray stations throughout. Its always been a lovely experience and Im so glad they are open as theres not much to do with everything else shut down.
This is an absolutely wonderful little zoo. The perfect size for a little one to enjoy. Very clean and well maintained. The zoo employees were so nice!
The zoo is doing an amazing job with socially distancing and other covid guidelines. I felt very comfortable going! Other patrons followed directions as well.
Love this zoo! Its on the smaller side - took us about an hour to get through. Theyre doing an amazing job with social distancing, mask wearing, etc. Perfect morning outing for us!
Love this place! Keep coming out and supporting your local zoo! Take the grandkids here often!
We never found the lemurs to my sons disappointment. However, the kids classes are very informative. We werent able to see everything because of cool weather but a good sized zoo for little kids with short attention spans. The kids especially liked the otters and the Lions performance. (He gave a very loud growl at lunch time) impressed with their mission to reduce plastic waste as well. Maybe next time more animals will be out.
Spacious caging for the animals, they seem content and not bored. Loved going through the park to see everything they had
This was a great zoo to visit. Small but lots of animals. Was wonderful even in these covid times.
Very cute zoo. Playground for kids and lots to look at. Active animals and very reasonable prices make this a destination to return to. I enjoyed it very much. Great half day zoo!
They have improved their enclosures over the years and it really shows the care they give to the animals there. The measures they are taking to limit covid spread seem well thought out, being not too intrusive to the visitor experience while also appearing affective.
This is a fun inexpensive place to go for an afternoon day date! Not all exhibits were open because of Covid, but it was still fun!
Beautiful area. Very clean! Well kept
Even though there is a pandemic, all the staff were right on top of things. Still sweet and very helpful.
They have done a good job under all the circumstances with COVID19. The zoo is clean and well kept. We enjoyed our time.
Calling a 13 year old an adult simply to charge nearly double for entry is outrageous. Old faculty and nearly motionless animals. Naturally overpriced everything and no discounts due to Rona. Gift shop was window shopping only, no entry into the building. Save your money and google black rhino instead.
Great for little kids. Not as much walking as Detroit Zoo. The kids favorite were the otters
Small zoo. Nice selection of animals. Wish the animals had more room to roam around. Mask required
I felt safe and had fun seeing all the animals, including their new baby rhino! There were plenty of sanitizer stations and the one way paths were easy to follow. Nice job Potter Park!
Great zoo! The have it set up really well for proper social distancing, and with the limited capacity its not very crowded.
Wonderful place to walk, relax and watch fun animals. Mist stations were a nice bonus.Sanitizing stations were empty, so bring you own.
Amazing zoo for a mid sized midwestern town. Great time!
Even though it has a lot of the houses closed down still enjoyed. Got to watch my greats have fun!
Quite a nice small zoo. Well kept and clean. Enjoyed our day with a beautiful picnic lunch.
Love the otters and baby rhino! Volunteers are so nice and helpful.
We always have a great time when we go to potter park zoo. My grand kids love looking at all the animals.
I was very happy with Potter parks covid-19 response it was still a very nice experience. All the staff were exceptionally nice and courteous
Great zoo. Not to overwhelming for kids and seniors. Just right for a few hours adventures
Small enough for a small kids big enough for kids at heart. Good info signs along the way. Large lawn area next to play ground for picnics.
Got to see a bunch of animals. Most of them were pretty active. Some were hiding in the shade but I cant blame them because it was really hot that day. Excellent experience, will definitely take the kiddo back again!
Wonderful little zoo. Due Covid some of the exhibits were closed. Would definitely recommend a visit if in the area.
Smaller city zoo. Pretty cheap parking and tickets for residents and non-residents. It takes about an hour or so to visit everything. Toward the end of the school year it can get very crowded on Fridays. I would recommend waiting for a earlier day in the week or Sundays. There is a petting zoo and camel rides.
I went to the zoo this weekend and was shocked to see two creepy old men standing in front of the entrance pushing religious flyers during covid times? Not even 10ft away!! I am pretty sure I just voted on a bond through the county for funds? Why is the zoo allowing one church to push their messages over others? Let alone having creepy old men approach my friends 4yo daughter on something not even zoo related!! The only thing a kid should be learning about at the zoo is the zoo!! I’m not sure if this a personal favor to someone’s favorite church but this should not be allowed!! 3 stars because I like the zoo but wish there were more workers by the popular animals to prevent crowding and respect the 6ft rule to take turns. Some families took their masks off and would not give space! So we would walk away!
Great place to take the family however it is a better experience earlier in the season when all exhibits are open
Had a lot of fun with the family! Great animals and awesome fun!
We stopped with our kids while we were in town. We had a fun visit. They had footprints to guide you along your way to help with social distancing. The indoor exhibits were still closed as of mid-July.
Nice zoo. Enjoyed all the exhibits. Was disappointed that the reservations were meaningless. Once it was full, everyone had to wait in the same line whether they had reservations or not waiting for others to leave before more could enter. If you go, don’t bother wasting your time making reservations.
First time there and would definitely go back. Clean, well kept, and nice layout.
We had our family reunion hee. It was great. The zoo staff who assisted us in reserving a location at the park and planning a guided tour of the zoo were very professional and excellent. In fact our tour guide, who is a zoo volunteer was so knowledgeable and patient with our large group. It was a great event and I would certainly plan to do this again. Thank you Potter Park Zoo staff and personnel.
Nice habitats for the animals. More animals than I expected to see including lions and penguins
I truly had a wonderful time with my friends and family as I participated in viewing all of Gods majestic creatures at the Potter Park Zoo however I am left remiss and slightly conflicted in that they had such small spaces and it seems a shame that they are so confined I know that the zoo takes very good care of them that I have no doubt . However I could not help but feel the sadness in some of the animals eyes as I looked at their lonely and empty confined existence .Nevertheless I have entailed many beautiful photos of these striking animals and creatures and I hope everyone enjoys the pictures in which Ive taken at Potter Park Zoo today. Also dont forget to check out the walk-in bird aviary where you can feed the birds they actually land on your arm and on a feeding stick if your purchase them it is an experience that you will never forget.
Great little zoo. Wish some of the enclosures were bigger for the animals but overall great little treasure.
Beautiful! I was surprised by their social distancing guidelines. They are taking all the precautions to keep us safe and enjoy our visit to the zoo
I love this zoo, they do a really great job, and I’m proud to have them in Lansing. Truly worth a visit!
The Christmas lights show was nice, but I remember it being more fun as a kid. Santa was there and Mrs Clause was nice enough to take a photo with my cell phone instead of trying to sell me a picture for a fortune, so that was nice. Very limited in the animals that you can see (as it is dark and many are inside), but non the less it was a good time and inexpensive. $6 or $7 for adults and $5 or $6 for kids.
Its a wonderful place to have the family time.
Great place for lil kids to run around and look at animals.good time
Our experience was not the greatest. It was not worth the ticket price when exhibits are closed. My grandson loves snakes and we couldnt see the snake and reptile exhibit. Also having to pay more than posted price for parking not worth it. Will not suggest this zoo to anyone.
Went to the Zoo with the Grand kids. Everyone had a wonderful time!
We had a great time at the zoo today. We were there about 3.5 hours. We walked it then went back around to see if we could catch the animals doing different things. I also appreciated that Moms were free from mothers day. What a great way to get familys out and about.
A great fun zoo for the whole family. A great way to spend time together.
Great layout for covid but not a lot of animals available to view.
Small family friendly zoo with some big animals. There a great selection of animals from amphibians to tigers a great place. We went for the lights in December awesome experience.
Awesome local zoo thats small without feeling crowded. In and out in about an hour with plenty of animals to see.
For this tray of food, I paid 14$. I like the zoo otherwise, but they should at least show you what youre buying when clearly it is extremely overpriced. The handful of fries was 4$, the one hot dog was 5$ and the Medium drink was the size of a standard small, maybe even smaller. The Small was the size of a kids size drink. Together they were 5$ which is more than you would pay at any food place. So defintely bring your own food. It cost 17$ to get in there for just me and my son plus 5$ for parking. I am happy to pay that, but the food prices really make you feel ignorant for purchasing anything inside the park.
