Beautiful cathedral! We were here recently for a wedding. Pews were taped off to accommodate social distancing measures. Masks were required to enter the building. This stained glass is beautiful here. Having seen many examples abroad I can say the quality here is excellent. Not having attended any other services here I cannot speak to anything other than the architecture.
I was the visitor of the town, and went for the service.Very friendly Priests and Parishioners.Attended 11 am Sunday mass.Choir was excellent. The church is beautiful. Serene. The Cemetery is creatively managed and the 500 years old Oak tree has its own special place .By luck, it was the Parish family picnic on 3rd November 2019.I was warmly welcomed by the Priests and Police Marshal.Had a good time and tasty food all for free.
We did not attend any service, just visiting the church. Beautiful cathedral. The stain glass and architecture is so beautiful. Lovely place to visit, so serene. The cemetery was interesting to walk thru. Stop and check out the live oak tree next to the cathedral. The entire grounds, outside and inside the cathedral, the cemetery and tree are all very beautiful and worth the time to stop and visit.
Try to take in a Daily Mass at 12:05pm. Let Yourself experience the Peaceful Beauty Offered at Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.
Very cool place. Was pleasantly surprised.
Im not Catholic, but this is a beautiful cathedral and cemetery. The grounds are very well kept and there is a MASSIVE tree that is worth going to see by itself.
Old nd Beautiful brick n stained glass cathedral in the heart of Downtown Lafayette.
Beautiful Architecture in this historic church. Be sure to visit the Cathedral Museum located in the Cathedral Center Office building, located next door to the church. Lots of beautiful artifacts representing the history of the Diocese of Lafayette, and a great gift shop featuring many handmade and antique religious items.
Amazing place, I felt I was in the middle of a movie scene.
Absolutely beautiful every time I enter this church!
Attended the MLK Award & Mass. Beautiful service, flowers, atmosphere and music.
Probably the most amazing Cathedral around. Visited relatives buried in the cemetery. Ground are very well kept and in amazing condition considering it’s age. Definitely a landmark to see!
Very beautiful. Amazing architecture
Awesome. All the Priest there do a great job of help understand the scripture. Ive learned a lot in just the last 3 months going to mass on Mon, Wed and Fridays. They have Mass everyday of the week.
Amazing oak tree! My mind is blown at the fact its been documented in the 1800s. Truly a beautiful sight next to the church.
Outstanding church the clergy is excellent except, keeping the laypeople quiet after Mass. I suppose here in this part of the world it is ok to speak and be loud after Mass even before the music has ended they are trying to be louder than the singing. Very poor manners
The priests are wonderful: intelligent but relatable, reverent but warm, holy but still connected with their congregation. The cathedral, itself, is breathtaking.
The convenience of daily confession is such a blessing. I love that the Cathedral offers daily lunchtime confession followed by mass. Some days the confessional line can get a bit long so if you’re on a time crunch try to get there before the start time.
Being in the church make feel closer to God. I love the design and upkeep
Without question one of my favorite churches in the state, and possibly on the planet. It should be, I was baptized there. :-)
The church is part of American history, however I really loved the massive 500 year old oak tree with its gnarly trunk and expansive branches. There is a parking lot that makes it easy to view the tree.
Such a beautiful old church. We love going there. Weve been to several weddings there.
Beautiful place! Very well maintained. Friendly and respectful people.
I have had some amazing moments in this church. The homilies are wonderful. The priest are the best and most enlightened I have come across.
St. Johns Cathedral is a beautiful historical landmark in Lafayette. I went to the Catholic School so it is always reminiscent of childhood. The pomp and circumstance never gets old. The Cathedral was decorated in blooming dogwoods and the music was masterful with the trumpet echoing in the rising of Christ. My 98 year old grandmother was with me and the seminarians made sure that she was brought eucharist. Over all it is something that should be experienced at least once.
What a beautiful Cathedral. We walked inside the museum and Janice the curator of the museum took us on a tour of the Cathedral, sections of the meticulous cemetery and the museum. The history behind this magnificent church is spectacular and Janice was incredibly knowledgeable. I am so glad we went. This is a tour I will never forget. Can’t believe I took over 60 photos.
Fantastic liturgy and I am convinced they have the best choir in Acadiana (can be heard at 11 AM Mass). It is a joy to hear Fr. Chester or Fr. Andrew say Mass, and the cathedral itself is beyond gorgeous. Highly recommended!
Most beautiful church we have visited
Its a beautiful place of worship and a historic part of Lafayette. It is easy to find with handicap amenities. They have mass at 12:05pm every day except Fridays. They also have mass at different times on the weekends.
Beautiful just beautiful!!! A must visit Cathedral .
A beautiful place to worship God.
Beautiful Church!! Its where the Wife and I married in 1987. And where most of our Families Funerals take place.
Absolutely amazing my heart is there
Beautiful historic cathedral in Lafayette. Ive shot many YouTube videos here. Its just so pretty inside.
This is a beautiful brick cathedral in downtown Lafayette. The stain glass windows depict scenes from the life of Christ. Outside is an incredible live oak tree that alone is worth the visit. I appreciate everything about this church which is so conducive to worship.
Went to a beautiful wedding there sat..
Beautiful. So much history.
Beautiful strained glass, classy cathedral. Nice grounds around it
Cool!
The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist is a beautiful church located in downtown Lafayette, LA. The cathedral itself is an incredible structure of light colored brick with white accents. On the property is a massive 500-year-old oak tree with a canopy that stretches over 200 feet! The trunk is 28 feet around and has an interesting shape due to the winds that have slowly twisted it over the centuries. If youre in Lafayette, this is a wonderful destination for a quick stop or for a service.
Beautiful
GORGEOUS CHURCH. It was closed so we only visited the outside and cemetary. The chuch and cemetary are both well maintained.
As the Youth Director, I feel my review is somewhat biased. However, from the inside, the Cathedral is one of the few growing parishes in the Diocese. A large number of families have been added each year, and its noticed at the 9:00 am Mass where children are certainly welcome. Fr. Chester has been a wonderful, welcoming, and compassionate pastor. There are plenty of community activities for the whole family and for specific groups (mothers ministry, Dinner by Design for married couples, womens and mens groups, youth group, and many more). The 11:00 am Mass is my personal favorite, with a truly outstanding choir and organist, incense, and an abundance of altar servers, the liturgy is truly elevated heavenward. The grounds are beautiful. The cemetery contains several notable people including Jean Mouton, General Mouton, Kaliste Saloom, Ambassador Caffery and more. The church architecture is a sight to behold both from the inside and out. The Live Oak adjacent to the church is 500+ years old (the second oldest recorded in the country). Lastly, the museum has several priceless artifacts deserving a look, including Bishop Jeanmards vestments and monstrance. At the very least, worthy of a tour.
Beautiful, holy, peaceful and heart warming place.
Nice place to visit and take pictures
Didnt stay long, beatiful place though.

This Cathedral is beautiful! Very peaceful!!
Absolutely gorgeous and a HUGE CHURCH
Its a beautiful church inside and outside

Their 11:00 am mass is especially beautiful. The choir is awe inspiring. At Christmas time their choir performs traditional carols that are also lovely.
