Went here for the first time with my 14 year old son. It was really windy and a little muddy in spots so we didnt ride to much, plus we are pretty new to trail riding so we stuck to the easy ones. We tried the pump track and that was fun, muddy in spots also, so we couldnt get the whole experience. We will probably be back and try more trails.
One of the most iconic MTB trails in Wisconsin. Any level of skill set can enjoy this place. You can easily spend a day here. Pump track and jump park to enjoy at the trail head.
Great trails for riding and I like the pump track. As a first timer to these trails it definitely was confusing. It would help to have maps at each trail intersection to help riders find their desired path more quickly.
One of my favorite places to mountain bike in the state. Well built trails, great maintenance and beautiful views. Only real complaint is trails are not incredibly well marked and no particularly great map is posted. I would suggest using an app like Trailforks to navigate your first time you go there.
Nice place to hike, though some of the trails weren’t super well maintained. Still had a lovely hike though and would go back!
There are so many trails and the scenery is gorgeous. Its also a bit less busy than lower hixon so its nicer for when you want less people on the trails or just a less crowded place.
Hard core fattire biking on one side. Little easier on the other side. Beautiful location.
Absolutely will return. A lot of hiking and mountain biking trails all levels.
This is by far one of my more favorite places to spend a day in the wilderness it has so many paths leading through so many different types of terrains and can get pretty rugged at times but also very very well maintained. Some of the most awe inspiring views as you look out over the Mississippi and able to follow all of its back waters. Then for the next 4 miles your walking through straight wilderness full of every type of tree imaginable. Then you come out to clear grasslands and a rock quarry dating back to the founding of la crosse it self. The wildflowers are amazing and the animal life is everywhere. What an amazing little jewel we have as locals to explore whenever we feel like unplugging and getting away from it all.. I highly recommend this destination to anyone whos never been and for those who have I dont need to tell you you already know 5 out of 5 stars from me
Stunning views. Easy paths and great foraging.
Great mountain biking trails for riders of all levels, no fee, even downhill and jump trails.
Very unique place for mountain biking.
Very beautiful place to have a wedding!
Nice trails with great views and the kid loved it
Well maintained trails that can suit many levels of endurance and skill!
Hixon Forest has been one of my favorite places to hike for more then twenty five years. The trails allow for hikers of all levels to get out and enjoy the gorgeous environment that the bluffs and the la Crosse area provide. It is also a good place to just go and hang out.
Had a great time on the human powered trails. The park continues to do improvements. You can spend an hour or a day here.
Awesome trails!
Upper Hixon was awesome today the trails never cease 2 amaze and challenged me :-)
Wonderful trails, quiet, and even when it is busy, its rare to come across too many people.
Good place to view some birds
Crazy awesome city park with wicked awesome hiking and biking trails
One of the best places in La Crosse to get outside. Hiking and mountain biking.
Hiking path was not marked well. Intended to hike the Bicentennial path. Started out on the path and ended up on another path. Had to cut the hike short.
Great place for hiking or biking to see nature,
Upper Hixon forest offers a wonderful variety of trails for outdoor activities. Mountain bikers, Trail runners, hikers, and cross-country skiers will find winding Prairie Trails, single track, and awesome Fat Tire Bike opportunities in the winter. Upper Hixon also features a BMX pump track 4 kids and adults to play on.
Beautiful area. Great view of town and valley from Grandad Bluff
Solid causual hikes nestled in the bluffs. Trails are under 5 miles with lots of connections and some difficulty variation. Dogs welcome on leash.Different paths marked for winter as well, with skiing and biking trails.Only downside is that some of the trails can get narrow. If youre visiting around early Spring, they may be closed to prevent trail erosion.
This has about the best terrain for hiking and mountain biking in the area...it will go from easy to absolutely grueling. A beautiful place to let out drive and take it to the next level. ( Wear safety gear and bring lots of water)
Lots of fun trails to ride on easy access and the pump track was a blast.
This is the extremely scenic forest surrounding Granddads Bluff! The roads to get there are rather steep and winding, but once you get there the views are absolutely breathtaking! Granddads Bluff is not to be missed on ones travel to LaCrosse!! There are bathrooms at rhe top of Granddads Bluff, so you should take any opportunity to go there!
Cool trails but be prepared to climb..... Alot!!
Awesome trails with great views. Great for hikes or even trail running.
Great hiking. Very well maintained. StuNning views
Absolutely beautiful hike! I love hiking here
Sooo much fun. Great biking for the novice to the Lance Armstrongs of off road biking. They have lots of different trails from flat grassy trails, to twisty downhill narrow trails the challenge the best of the best. We also enjoyed the small but fun BMX course.
Awesome place for hiking if you can walk up at an 87 degree angle
WHO PUTS A STEEL ROD IN A HIKING TRAIL? Someone is trying to cause harm to others. La Crosse park and Rec., please examine this trail and make necessary adjustments. We found 2 areas along the trail with these rods sticking out about an inch or two.
Great place to spend a day outdoors. Many trails for people of all different levels.
Got a BMX bike? Well come on down and try their trails. Great for hiking if youre up for some hilly terrain.
