A great sized dog park. Dogs and people are friendly. Be prepared for lots of mud and lots of dogs. If you go around 5pm there are usually 20+ dogs, but early morning usually there are 3-5 dogs.
The park is great itself. The regulars that go there are bullies. Literally had to leave the park because they were annoyed with my dogs playful barking... at a dog park. Said it was rude of me to let my dog bark around them... at a dog park. Also on the same day had a women complain because my other dog kept playing with her dogs ball. There were 20+ dogs there and apparently she thought my dog should know which toys were not ok to play with. I dont normally complain but seriously. Never going there again.
The park itself is awesome but lately there is constantly large groups there. I used to bring my dogs here all of the time but the last couple of times Ive taken them people let their kids come up and get all over them while they are still getting used to the other dogs which is even more difficult when other dogs are literally following them around barking at them. Recommendations for a good dog park for friendly but shy dogs are welcome because now this one is shot for us.
Dog park was well kept and the area around it was nice, but was frustrated after my pup was chased by two aggressive dogs and their owners couldn’t care less as they continued talking without looking up.As we left the park, one of their dogs attacked another dog and finally the owner stepped in and a screaming match took place between the owners. We left at the right time.I totally understand this was probably just a bad experience based on the positive reviews, but owners need to watch their dogs closer.
I love all the parks in La Crosse Wisconsin. They are all beautiful and different. I enjoy watching the Mississippi River. Seeing the bluffs on the Minnesota side. Mother Nature is very beautiful even on a cloudy, rainy day. Everyone should take at least 5 minutes of their busy day and just look at nature thats around you.6
Its a dog park by the river. If your dog needs to run every day its about the only place in lacrosse you can let them off leash
We come here a few times a week, while the park used to have an issue with glass, they recently resurfaced it & put new grass down to make it more safe, the park does have a $12-$24 per year cost.
Nice size and a great view of the river. Friendly environment just wish I had the guts to go interact with the other people
1st off I want to say that I was very impressed with how the dog park is designed. A large one and a smaller 1. It was the 1st time my daughter myself and my dog were there and we ran into for other dogs and their owners and they were all great. However I did hear of a dog that was slightly aggressive that was there earlier that day. People need to understand that if their dog has any aggression towards humans children or other dogs that they should not be bringing them there or have a muzzle. My main reason for only Giving 3 stars is because when I left I ran over a screw and I also had a screw stuck in the bottom of my flip flop that was poking my toe. These screws ended up causing me to get a flat tire in the process. If they are going to be doing any kind of work they need to make sure theyre picking up after themselves because thats very unsafe. The over all park was great and I would consider going again but not parking in the entrance closest to the poop plant lol.
Good dog park, fully fenced and well located.
Fishing off the riprap can be fun.
My dog loves the dog park. I dont know how I feel about the actual park because its by the poop plant.
This dog park is the best. Two very large fenced-in areas for dogs to run around in. Well-kept with tables and chairs to sit at. This is our favorite dog park in the entire La Crosse/Onalaska area!
Beautiful view of the river, and a friendly little park. Dog park on the northern end, and a childrens park in the middle, a ball park on the eastern edge of the south end, as well as a charming open air shelter with picnic tables on the south end. A nice place to have a break and commune with nature, or relax with friends and family, worth a visit!
Good big park with access to fresh water. Tends to have a few others there whenever we go. But definitely is in need of some funding.
Great dog park. I take my dog here every day. I wish it was kept a bit cleaner. I find garbage and pieces of glass occasionally. I always pick it up. Big open space to run and shaded areas.
All of the pups were friendly. My pup loved this park!
I was a little disappointed with the park. My family met at the park for the fourth of July. Maybe it was the party goers, but the park didnt seem well maintained. There were several spots where homeless people left their belongings. Just didnt seem as though its monitored by law enforcement. Definitely will NOT pick this area for another outing!
Nice view, bad road, WAY too close to the water treatment plant, stay down wind
Such a nice stop to enjoy the river but the road is HORRIBLE.
Smells but is a cool area
Dog friendly, close to water for Fishing, lots of picnic tables of cookouts, nice playground for your kids and a beautiful view...
We rented from Airbnb a boathouse, and absolutely loved the River experience! It was next to the Houska Park on a back channel of the Mississippi. We want/plan to come back! The Houska Park has a busy fenced in place for dog owners, but also has a nice Pavilion with observation deck. Our group was there for a picnic supper and could hardly get done with the picturesque views of the Cass Street bridge and River traffic, from light to dark time. Totally awesome, thanks to our Creator God and mans architecture!
Great place for a day playing with the kids, having picnics, fishing the good ole Mississippi, reading a good book on the benches, taking a short walk on the paved trail, or just soaking in some rays while enjoying the scenery.
Clean neat area nice. Some memorials, love note graffiti in the tower structure, kinda cool.
Good place to fish they also have a dog park now but it does smell kinda bad there
The view of the river are very nice, but this park has a proximity to the sewage plant that makes breezes from the south less than pleasant. Has a nice shelter with a viewing platform, a softball field, and play equipment, with a pedestrian bridge off the island to downtown and fishing access to swift Creek. The dog park has some issues with debris, but overall a nice park
Beautiful area for walks and just relax!
Please fix the road. The dog park is awesome, however the drive is not worth the damage to your suspension.
Beautiful view of the river. I mainly use the dog park. It is pretty big. There are always water dishes and jugs of water out along with a working hose. They keep it well maintained. Lots of picnic tables and a large shaded area. Highly recommend.
Not all dogs are friendly here and I worry about taking my pup as he’s been attacked 3 times by the same dog
Lots to do here. Kids, adults, and even dogs.
Another great river park to visit with wonderful views. Very quiet and only person there!
Beautiful view the road needs to be redone though.
Houska is a nice green space with a dog park, picnic area, playground, and baseball field. It also has a great view of the lake and is next to a really nice bike path.
We took our dogs to the dog park. It was awesome. There were lots of room to run and play, water bowls available, and shade. There was seating for the hoomans.
Excellent dog park here, two entrances to the larger park and a separate slightly smaller area. This park also includes a good size playground, a baseball field, lots of space and shade. One can both drive or walk to this park as there are walking trails that go through the area. The only reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is that the park happens to be near a human waste disposal plant which can create a terrible odor at times.
The fields here are terrible, worst Ive seen in years. Someone is going to get hurt running around out there. No games should be played here until its fixed.
I enjoy it there as does my Jack Russell. Nice variety of dogs to choose one she wants to play with. Everyone is so friendly.
Nice little park on the miss.river
Good place to run ur !
Good place for a dog park if you want to take your dog somewhere and play
Wonderful place to experience yourself and learn new things.
Never heard that they have a dog park here, apparently they are known for their dog park and dog walking areas. Drove through here by accident actually and thought my friend took the wrong road. Its a BEAUTIFUL park, its tucked away right on the River and it didnt have too many people and since its not a thoroughfare, its obviously a destination park, unlike the other Citys Parks and wayside benches here and there throughout the city of La Crosse Wisconsin. I will definitely come back to Houska Park. Lots of mature trees and shrubs, and picnic tables are scattered throughout the area. Prime location for watching the sun set over the water : )
Beautiful place at night. Has a big dog park
If you think youll be needing to relieve yourself, bring a bucket. One single portable toilet and located far enough from a shelter that a person with a sore knee may as well figure on crapping their pants. A joke of a park.
Owners need to control their dogs instead of sitting in chairs watching them bite a puppy. There is dog poop all over because the owners are too lazy to pick it up.
Dogs caught kennel cough at dog park.
I love the park itself, but the road is terribly in need of repair/replacement.
Good dog park. They had cameras installed and people look out for one another.
Dog park was great! Huge enclosed area, entrances on both ends and some doggy bag provided as well.
Go here when the weather is nice my kids love watching the boats and dogs at the dog park. The play area is also nice and always clean.
Great to have this in lacrosse! We are happy to get to socialize our dog
The smaller park (which is meant for the small dogs and old/disabled dogs) always has large and vicious breeds in it! People do not respect that small dogs should also have a safe place to play and run with other small dogs (or older and disabled dogs that can’t hurt them on accident). Heck I’d even be fine with it if they just brought in friendly big dogs (my little one loves labs and Golden’s!) but sadly people bring in their more aggressive players (Not mean dogs just more playful aggressive — which is fine with dogs their own size but with the little ones accidents can happen). I know little dogs can be just as mean (if not meaner) than big dogs but at least 2 big dogs or 2 small dogs get into a fight you have a chance to separate them before anything horrible happens, but a big and small dog on the other hand... well it only takes one bite from a big one and the little ones a goner. And however much I love all breeds and there not all bad, little dogs with pit-bulls and Rottweilers is asking for trouble. They really should be in the big side.
The only bad thing I can say is the smell. Other than that..great
Great dog park to let them run free!!
Nice spot as long as the wind is blowing the right direction.
The roads are god-awful and the smell from the sewage plant can be well overwhelming... Only go of the winds blowing from the north LOL but true
Houska has a beautiful view of the river and a really nice dog park. However it is by the sewage treatment which sometimes affects it.
Its a nice park for drug dealers and waste management.
Dog park with 2 separate areas you can choose from. Both are fenced-in. A lot of fun playing for your dog!
Always a great time with my dog
Dog park is nice but the park road is terrible!
Road needs to be patched up
Small but nice
Love it
Spent all night
It was on the news that is a very run down park and not safe to go to anymore!
Its down by the river.
Stinky park
Because I love it
Out of the way park, no stand-out points to make it worth recommending.
Dog park is very nice
I did not see the cat.
