Poolenalena Beach Park

Amazing place and one of the nicest beaches in highway. Tricky shorebreak to be aware of but great swimming and snorkeling near the rock formations on a calm day. Must do beach while in Maui.

Wow its a hidden gem. I really enjoyed this beach once I went to it. I always judged it from tbe outside and thought itd be trashy but really its super great!

Totally awesome turtle town along both rocky outcrops at each end of beach. Good parking availability. And porta potties.

The waves are gentle enough to relax in and strong enough for body boarding. The sand is beautiful and its not super packed with tourists. Its a nice little beach to spend the day enjoying everything South Maui has to offer.

Wonderful beach. Plenty of parking, and it is typically less busy than many of the other beaches in the area. Lots of shade, great snorkelling! Definitely recommend this beach. Take the small path over to the right near the parking lot and you will find yourself in a beautiful cove!

Great beach. Not too crowded and pretty shallow water. There are waves for boogie boarding and rocks for snorkeling. The only downside is that there isnt a shower to wash off the sand.

Awesome spot for snorkeling or chilling on the beach and enjoying the amazing scenery. Watch out for fallen spikey twigs on the way there though before the rocks!

Great beach. Crystal clear water, beautiful sand, beautiful views. Cant ask for a better beach in Hawaii. Just wish they had better public facilities, there is no real restrooms or showers, only a single porta potty.

What a treasure! Once you park find the trail on the right, keep following it. It will lead to a beautiful (almost) private beach. Clear water, great waves and turtles!

Best beach. Not too rough, long sand and not too crowded.

This is one of my favorite spots in Maui, it’s not always quiet as sometimes people gather to celebrate someone’s birthday, like it happened during my last visit, there was a dj, bbq and tents with locals celebrating, we were invited to join it was very nice . My favorite spot is the little cove at the end of the beach, the sunsets and views are breathtaking. The beach at the end is also used by people who likes to enjoy being nude. It’s a great spot for mature people who respect and enjoy this type of settings. It is also the perfect spot for a romantic evening and the best beach for an elopement or intimate wedding!

Best Beach on the South End of Maui!

Not crowded, nice water, turtles and long stretch of beach

Went on a Sunday & was fairly busy. Surf was higher here than the further north beaches we had gone to. Saw people kayaking & several snorkelers. Went in at the north entrance, lots of parking with easy overflow parking in the street. No running water, just a port a potty.

Wonderful day at the beach with Dom, boogie boarding and playing in the sand and eating cinnamon rolls!

Beautiful less crowded beach soutj of Maui. A lot of photshoots happen here. My wife had her maternity shoot here and it was simply gorgeous. Sunsrt is a treat to watch any place in Hawaii.

Beautiful and relaxing place

Lovely sand and quiet and peaceful. Long beach with options to walk to one end Makena Surf Hotel to other beach. Water nice but not great snorkelling with rough water. Great body surfing beach and lots of free parking but no showers.

One of my favorite beaches in maui

This is a very nice spot! Not super big and not crowded, at least when we were there. Had we known about this beach earlier, we would have come here each day during our stay. The waves were not crazy there were lots of families out in the water and on the sand.

Calm water and was able to see whales from far away.

Incredible! Go to the north end; past the black lava rock. Less people on the north. Fantastic snorkeling by the reefs, we saw countless turtles.

Very quiet beach on the south-end of the Kihei shore of Maui. Bring a beach chair or towel, lunch and spend the day! Great view of Molokini and Koolawe island.

Amazing place. Make sure cart out what you bring in. Respect this place its a gem.No shower or running water but has a port a john. Nice place.

Very nice beach! No bathrooms though. It was windy and choppy but still a great time exploring, playing in the waves and reading in the sun.

My favourite beach for snorkelling. north side (right) snorkelled with plenty of turtles (a few in shallow water right off beach) over the course of the day. plenty of beautiful fish, absolutely marvelous! only problem was went on a Sat and were a few people camped out. next time Id go during week. quite a few shaded areas also.

This beach has a nice huge shady area under trees. Its a nice place to relax. It seems like a lot of locals come here.

Great beach. For me it holds special meaning. Great for star gazing. But note that camping is not allowed.

Great beach but loaded with locals on the weekend who dont like to share.

Amazing family friendly beach. One of the few beach parks used 24 hours. Local families fishing and crabbing from the shore, local musicians creating around campfires. Much more popular than the one, dirty, paperless port-a-john can support. Friendly regulars. A good spot to relax with Maui organically grown herbs.

Sitting on this beach as I’m writing this review - it’s absolutely a hidden gem. Nestled between several resorts and the beaches of those resorts, this beach is definitely overlooked. And what a blessing this is, of all the beaches we have been in Maui so far, this by far has the best snorkeling (saw 3 different sea turtles, and big reef), very little people, and plenty of shade which usually is missing from even the popular beaches. Absolutely a must!!!

Beautiful beach among many others on the Southside. Big dirt lot needs to be paved and there are no showers or bathrooms, but its a nice beach without too many rocks.

Not crowded, great views of the other Hawaiian islands, brown sand the consistency of sugar. Decent rollers for the kids to boogie board.

Smaller beach but not crowded at all. Waves were gentle and entire vibe was relaxing.

Just the sheer beauty of nature! It is breath taking!

Love this beach! Three sections, north, middle and south. The middle section is the largest with wonderful sand. The north section is separated from the middle by a small bluff but is easily accessible. It is a bit smaller but has great sand and is great for body surfing. The south section is the smallest with some good snorkeling around the rocky tip to the south. Surely one of the top 10 beaches in Maui.

Love this beach ! I was at Changs beach! Used to be a nice house here and we used to camp, park, party,fish, right on the beach!.....the beaches are little crowded now with the influx of tourists and oh yeah..... DLNR...ugggh......

All these beaches on this side are great, try to visit as many as possible when you visit.

Fairly quite, great snorkeling

Great beach. Limited parking, but not very busy. Good snorkeling at the edges, with chances to see turtles and a large variety of fish!

My family and I went snorkeling and saw a family of seven turtles with trumpet fish cleaning them! Healthy reef and kid friendly. Parking is not too hard, easy to access, and there a facilities.

Nice wide beach with super fine sand. Wasnt crowded. Good snorkeling at the edges near the rocks. We saw fish and 4 huge turtles.

Nice beach next to some Condos and fair sized parking lot. The water is a bit rough with high under tow so hang onto your little ones. The boardwalk is nice to walk on.This is one of the few beaches with a community provided restroom facility with showers so you can wash yourself and your feet afterwards.

Needs restrooms and shower facilities......one jiffy john.....parking lot a mess, dirt and broken stone.....beach nice..... great surf break.......good body surfing and snorkeling.

Great beach if you want to get away from crowds. We spent a full afternoon here snorkeling and watching the sunset.If you do decide to snorkel, just be cautious of how quickly the waves move you. I got distracted and ended up getting knocked around pushed into the reef. Saw a sea turtle though so that was cool.

When we went there it was hard to park but once we went down to the beach it was great. Gets windy so make sure you have things tied down and get the umbrellas put into the sand deep.
