Very nice aquarium. Would be great for a small rainy day trip. Very educational and enjoyed each exhibit especially the sea turtles. I wish they had actual placards up about each exhibit and animal as waiting for the full sideshow on a monitor was slow and did not always include the animal of interest.
Key West is a wonderful destination for families with children of all ages.Between the great outdoors and the fantastic museums around the island, you’ll never be at a loss for fun, interactive attractions that will keep kids entertained just as much as parentsGet up close and personal with Key West’s marine life at the Key West Aquarium. Located in the heart of Mallory Square, there are many hands-on experiences to be had. You’ll meet moray eels, barracuda, grouper, tropical fish, conch and sea cucumbers with narration by the museum’s expert guides. For families with animal-loving kids, this is a must-do.
Very small for the amount of money you spend. They just have one large room with displays. Kinda disappointed with how little they had for our trip. Nice place to cool off if you need to do that!
The aquarium was a great place to see all the tropical fishes up close. They also have a touching tank, sea turtle exhibit and a shark tank. The staff is very friendly and available to answer any questions you have
Neat little old aquarium. Very small. Not worth the money but I guess worth the experience. They have some cool species. Definitely the shark feeding is cool. The outside in the back is still damaged from the last major hurricane so there is no admittance out there. This poor place needs funding!
Very small aquarium . Its more of a showcase but animals are very unique. I think a lot of the fish need more room to swim it reminded me of a pet store .
A fun little aquarium. We expected it to be really crowded, especially on an 88 degree day. It wasnt crowded at all. They had some nice activities, animal feedings, encounters, and presentations. Its about the right size for children with a short attention span. The rescued loggerhead turtle was my favorite part. It was a little expensive. It was $15 for adults $10 for kids and I think ages 3 or 4 and under were. For us, it was worth it. The Aquarium also has a cool history.
Really interested and nice place to learn more about our marine world . Nice A/C by the way in case you need to cool off.
This is a tiny aquarium. A lot of the tanks were dirty, and difficult to see through. They did have a few odd/unique fish, and we saw the nurse shark feeding, but honestly it was disappointing. It appears that part of the aquarium is closed off for renovations and upgrades. The other thing was that almost all of the plants and all of the coral were fake... For a place with tons of swimming reefs and open snokle parks I would have expected that the aquarium would have gotten permission to host live coral and plants. I did not feel like this was worth the cost of entry given its location.
This was a great trip for our toddler. It was nice to have some AC! The staff is great - one nice lady brought wet cloths and ice packs for us, which was much needed as the little guy had about had enough of the heat.It was fun to see the exhibits, especially the baby gators!
Small and pricey..especially in the last hour and during a remodel...but its for the good cause.
My 9 year old enjoyed feeding the nurse sharks. The lady working was very informative. They have a touch tank for the kiddos. Definitely a small aquarium, nothing like the big ones.
My family had such a good time at the aquarium. Its a small aquarium but the chats they do make it really amazing. We were there for the invasive species chat, shark feeding and game fish feeding. My kids loved feeding the sharks and the game fish. So much fun in such a little place.
What a great place and the kids loved it. A great way to escape the street and step into A/C for a while. We were there during Covid-19 restrictions and the staff was incredibly friendly! Of course my daughter touched everything though...
The size of this may not impress some but we found it interactive and neat. We stayed thru all the different feedings and enjoyed it a great deal. They have a large puffer that they have trained to come up to a bucket float for treats. They fed stingrays and nurse sharks, tarpons and barracuda. Cool place worth supporting, they have a rescued turtle -Lola, who lost a fin. The octopus and albino bamboo shark were so cool as well.
The aquarium is a breath of fresh air, to know more about conservation efforts for wildlife and the environment. This is no Monterey Bay Aquarium, but its nicely put together and offers a multitude of sea animals from the local area. The cool things: an area where people can touch things like sea snails (in shells), hermit crabs and sea urchins. Also they feed turtles in front of you which was very cool. Theyve got a large sea turtle and also quite a few nurse sharks in their small pools. Would be 5 stars if these animals in particular had a larger enclosure, as they normally travel quite a bit in their natural environments.
The staff are friendly and informative! Not to mention so many cool and cute animals!
Went today. Did not know the aquarium was so small. 1 room with about 20 tanks and two big pools. 1 big pool outside and that is it. Took about 30 minutes to look at it all. Wish we would have been told about the back area not being open. The price was expensive for what was offered. A few tanks were leaking as well.
This was an amazing place. They are very interactive and they do a lot of things with kids. This is a great place to bring kids or people who love animals. It was amazing. We got to hold things such as crabs in shells to starfish. I saw a lot of beautiful animals.
I had my girl scout troop participate in a virtual educational tour of the aquarium and it was an engaging, interactive and wonderful experience. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable and I completely recommend other groups to consider participating. Its a win-win...helps small businesses during these hard times and fulfills a wonderful experience with their virtual tour!
Fun place for kids. Very educational. However, too small.
The Aquarium is on the small side but you can easily spend a couple of hours here. I wish they have more animals but I understand that they wouldn’t have the space for more, it would need to expand first. A must see at least one time.
I like coming to this place. It was different this year due to covid, but other than that I enjoyed visiting this place. I would gladly visit this place again.
Nice older aquarium with conservation programs in progress. The fish and oceanic life are as curious about you as you are about them. Feeding demonstrations and touch aquarium add to the enjoyable interaction.
Great place to visit. Awesome cool animals and we were able to feed the sharks.
Lovely little aquarium. Worth stopping in and learning about their aquatic residents. Sea turtles are rescues which is great. Loved our visit.
Great little aquarium with a variety of marine life. Super nice keepers who love to answer questions. Demonstrations every half hour or so.
It was a nice experience, but a little small in my opinion. There is no parking available on the street, you will have to try to find parking in a local garage. Lots of shops and souvenirs in the surrounding area. All in all the tanks were very clean and the fish were maintained. Thats always good to see. And talking to some of the staff you can tell they really care about the animals and their job.... which is also very nice to see.
WOW!! A must see!! Inexpensive and super neat!! Their informative staff was friendly and helpful. There is a pool area where we were able to handle live horseshoe crabs.. hermit crabs the size of a grapefruit.. starfish and sand dollars. They have several animals they are rehabilitating. Check this place out. My whome family loved it!!
Small, fair price. Nearby parking available. They have a feeding show for the tarpon and other fish/turtle.
Its small, but it has a lot of fish to see. I had fun.
Please come and support this wonderful aquarium. The staff takes such amazing care of these beautiful creatures. I had a rare experience of visiting while it was slow, which made the time I spent more memorable. I will always make my way back to Key West just for this aquarium alone.
I completely underestimated this place! My husband and I really enjoyed our visit. We have always wanted to see sea turtles but didnt want to have to go to the turtle hospital or dry tortugas. They have three resident turtles that have been rehabilitated. It was awesome seeing them put on their prosthetic fins. Were definitely going to return!
It may not seem very impressive from the outside, but the walls were lined with aquariums and we got to see a shark feeding. I actually loved it, it was well worth the price of admission (the air conditioning was also stellar)
Feel the need to go back in time? That is what it feels like when visiting this longstanding Aquarium as it was built between 1932 and 1934.The aquarium is home to exhibits on alligators, atlantic shores, jellyfish, shark feedings, sea turtle conservation, and a touch tank.
Unique collection of fish and inverts. Small but great aquarium. The mangrove lagoon was a huge highlight.
Was expecting more being we were in the Keyes. It was very small and felt more like a fish store, not an aquarium. Good place to kill time, but I wont go back.
Must see! Had a great time
This place is nice. Small but fun and very knowledgeable staff. My dogs attended too and loved the hospitality. Will definitely visit again
Went here a year ago and it was so fun. I would go this year but don’t feel like walking around wearing the mask. People need their oxygen to stay healthy.
Really poor aquarium. Was expecting something much better from the place located on the sea.
Small aquarium but kids loved it watched shark feeding
Fun thing to do if it’s raining or you want to do an indoor activity. The aquarium isn’t big, but it has a lot of great sea creatures to look at.
This aquarium with its convenient size has most things. At certain times you will be able to feed the sharks if you are between 6 and 14. They also have a touch tank at the entrance.
Really awesome to see the different sea turtles they have. Rather small but well worth your time.
Really nice aquarium that works with multiple zoos around the country to rehabilitate injured sea life. Great for kids and people of all ages.
Very cool fun place. Must go to the shows (otherwise will be just okay)!Kid loved it, especially feeding Sharks!!!Exceeded our expectations!
Great way to cool off while helping the local economy! Neat little place with knowledgable staff. Worth a walk thru
Easily the best aquarium I’ve ever been to! The marine biologist gave sessions on the touch tank, sharks, and fish pond that were in-depth and fascinating (even for 3 adults). We all got to feed the sharks and the fish. There were dozens of fascinating fun facts around the aquarium (there’s an immortal fish, jellyfish can live 27 years as polyps and then die within a year of reaching maturation, etc). This place is small but man is it worth a visit!
A small aquarium but the exhibits and the shows done here and worth the money!!
The employees are very informative about the wildlife! It was great to see the presentation on the turtle, nurse sharks, and the heat about the lion fish!
Great specimens, good use of video signage describinf the exhibits, a great way to spend an hour or two. Solid social distancing practices.
It was amazing. I had really good time there. Every 30 minutes feeding shows are there
Key wests oldest tourist attraction. We enjoyed it. Its small, but a lot to see
A very nice small aquarium well worth the visit. The staff are excellent and very friendly.
I loved this place. Girls here really care about animals here and you can feel it. They do have a lot nice and interesting presentations. Even if this place is small atmosphere here is very friendly and enjoyable. Thanks you a lot!
Great place with the kids! On a rainy day my children got to feed sharks and some fish for free. Obviously you have to pay admission
I have fond memories of this aquarium as a child and was excited to bring my own children. The kids liked it but I was disappointed. Its definitely not what it used to be. I know it has suffered some from hurricanes and such but knowing part of the already small aquarium was closed before we paid for tickets would have been nice. Again, my kids enjoyed it since they didnt know the difference.
Small aquarium, just ok. But kids will still enjoy. Great for a rainy day!
Kids had a great time looking at all the fish and feeding small sharks. They love picking up the little critters in the touch tank as well.
Small but lots of shows, interactions, and things to learn. Many of the animals are rescues as I learned. Some could never return to the wild or they would die. Such as the hawk they have with only one eye. All the staff we met were extremely nice and knowledgeable.
Its a little aquarium but very nice. We had an enjoyable afternoon of looking at sea creatures, some we got to touch, and we also got to watch them feed the sharks.
Learned so much here! Love what they are doing to help and save the animals in this region
Such a great experience visiting the aquarium in KW. Its small enough for a short visit and fascinating to see what sealife is there rehabbing. Alligators, sharks, fish, turtles, really neat place.
Nice aquarium in a good spot. Not a large place. Took over an hour to look at everything. We could have spent 2 hours there, but had other places to be that day. They have 4 sea turtles. Three of those are missing a flipper and can not be released. I dont remember the other ones story. Touch tank is fun: horseshoe crabs, hermit crabs, conch, snails, sea star, and sea cucumber to reach in and touch and pick up in the water.A Burmese Python is on display as an invasive species. They have an albino, which is not a good representation of the normal colored ones currently breeding in south Florida. One outdoor area has bigger fish in it and there is food pellets to feed them. A lot of fun for 25¢ !
This place is perfect for family activities and very educational if you love sea life! ️
Small but cute. Currently under construction
Turtles are my favorite part. Doing cool things for them
We visited the aquarium last week. We feel the price of admission is too high for this attraction. The building is old and while there are quiet a few fish to observe, the outside area by the snake tank, looks as if it’s falling apart.
Small, but cute aquarium. The feeding was awesome. Hunter, a sea turtle is 200+ pounds. They also let you feed the fish!
We visited the aquarium during our recent trip to Key West in August. It did not disappoint, loved it! They have a great variety of animals. They also have a lot of gifts and things to buy. While we were there, they were doing a show with the sharks, and then went outside to do one as well. It was the first time for me getting to see some of the animals in person. This is a wonderful place to bring your family, they are very nice.
To be an aquarium in the keys the key West aquarium is quite small. From all the ocean, and sea animals all around, youd expect a bit more. However they have a good verity of animals from alligator all the way to sharks. Me being a huge shark fan, Id wish they had a little more types because all they have are nurse sharks and another type Im not sure about. You can pet and hold the crabs, snails, and starfish. They have 2 turtles outside the very back, that both need new flippers. The names are lola and Rocky. Their flippers are both made from the same people who have made winter the dolphins fin. On the outside door on the side, they have lots of fish, turtles, baby alligator, and a snake. Then theres also a gift shop to the side, where they have stuffed animals, key chains, souvenir, Christmas ornaments (we went late June so Im guessing all year around), shirts, etc.. The aquarium was good, the staff really cares about the animals, and make sure they are safe.
This little aquarium makes up for its limited size with animal accessiblility. We were there for 2 hours feeding fish and other sea life. Then we watched them feed the sharks and stingrays. So, cool how they have some animals in stalls in the ocean. Kids ages 3 and 5 loved it.
Small but offers a nice collection of the native species. Some nice interactive programs throughout the day. They were in the process of renovating during our visit, and one expects the revamp will offer some fresh experiences.
Awesome aquarium, the staff was great with all of our questions about aquatic life. A must visit if your in the area
Very interactive aquarium. Smaller and hidden away but very much worth finding. They have a variety of local marine life. Their feeding shows are awesome. See what time the feedings are and get a chance to feed stingrays by hand and sharks with a tool. Staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Will definitely be back.
Maybe it was a bad day at their facility or because of the covid-19 and things reopening back to a normal, but this place really was a let down. It was not worth the money spent to walk into a room with small to average tanks, no information plaques stating what the animal is or called, did have monitors that kept changing with information on them, had 2 sea turtles that were injured and can no longer survive in the wild in a tank, a few sharks that I think were nurse sharks, and an outside pond that you have no clue what kind of fish and animals are in it. Did not see any employees until the exit. Felt like it was a let down. The place was small, but does have potential if the right person can take the reins and guide it, grow it.
What a great place. They have interactive things every half hour. Not to mention great fish and turtles and other creatures
This is an extremely small aquarium. I wouldnt even call it that really. Its 1 room with 3 open water areas with turtles, a few sharks and 1 interactive tank with conchs, crabs etc and small tanks that line the sides of the room with other animals. My son did get to feed a shark during one of the educational sessions and that is my reason for the three stars. For the money you pay this is not worth it. If it were $10 a person I would say go in a heartbeat just to enjoy the air conditioning and to watch the shark feedings. But after fighting to find parking in Key West and then paying $17 a person to get in... It just did not feel worth it to me.
Small aquarium for sure but unique. No other aquarium let us touch the animals. Quit fun and informative museum. We had a good time there! I will recommend highly!
This place was okay. It was very small, and wasnt really worth the price for me. The fish were cool to look at, but it wasnt the nest I have been to. If you have the extra cash, check it out, but its not a must see attraction by any means.
We always stop into the key west aquarium every time we visit the keys and it’s always a fun time we were kind of sad about the water front area being closed for construction but the rest of it was still great! Loveeee aquariums and this one while small still has a lot of great creatures some of which others do not have! Must visit!!
Great for kids and adults too! Fish, turtles, and even alligators. Regular presentations and feedings. Interactive learning. One outside exhibit is under remodel. Still plenty to see!
Small but cute .. a good place to take the kids and kill some time. It was clean and definitely unique.
Highly recommend checking this place out.
Wonderful experience for the kids. They feed tarpon, eels, turtles and more. It was a bit damaged by Hurricane Irma. Big pro: the entrance is good for two days.
This historic aquarium has done a great job keeping up with the times. It has a wide range of fish and other specimens, including an outdoor mangrove swamp habitat.
Remember from Childhood when Mother worked there Great Memories Although Bigger and remodeled was Awesome!
It took 15 minutes to go through the whole thing, not very much to see ️
Fabulous place to visit. Knowledgeable staff.
Cool place to stop by and get some AC while enjoying looking at the fish and sharks. Great info given on sea life.
Run down place. Tanks were leaking. Needs lots of TLC. Staff was unbelievable friendly.
Though this aquarium is small, it is still worth a visit for small children. They have a touch pond where you can touch horseshoe crabs and sea cucumbers, amongst other sea creatures. They have another pool filled with various small sharks. Outside, they had a shark feeding time, which was popular amongst the patrons. We were even treated to a turtle walking, who had a fun little quirk, where if you tickled its backside, it will wiggle back and forth. They have various other smaller fish and other sea creatures displayed throughout the walls of the aquarium.
Today was a hotttttt day in Key West. Heavy air, storm building to the south. Just after lunch. Wife suggested we view the Aquarium .What a great idea, cool inside, interesting exhibits with more info than just a name. Volunteers happy to speak with you. A great place to find relief from the heat, and as the entry fee goes to helping a great cause, not so painful.Parking sucks, oh yeah, welcome to Key West.
A bit expensive for the experience... especially because we arrived 45 minutes before closing, but we still enjoyed it.
It was really kool got to feed sharks and see neat fish.
You get what you pay for, I’m not one to write reviews, especially negative ones, but this aquarium is tiny. They have maybe 16, 2x4ft tanks and some nurse sharks. It’s an interactive aquarium, where I got to feed the sharks (which seems cool but really wasn’t a big deal and wasn’t worth the wait). It seemed more like a learning center promoting environmental awareness. If you’re looking for a legit aquarium, especially for a family, I would look elsewhere. This would be better to just stop in and kill some time, maybe 20-30 minutes max.
