On vaca and this place is close to our hotelWe decided to stop in and check it outSome of it was flooded out but we able to get to tour some of its cool stuffMake sure you have water on hand cause it was really warm in there .A lot of cool stuff and some freaky stuff as wellRobert the Doll lives here and story says he is a Haunted Doll here in the keys
We went to this museum last week on vacation. Its a decent place to go on a rainy day. My husband was joking about not asking Robert for his pic, but the kids and I made him do it. His Robert pic turned out ok, but the next 2 photos were completely white and blurry. I dont even believe in this stuff, but that was definitely odd...its worth a visit for sure.
Good small fun. A handful of curious exhibits, some arty sculptures, the fort itself is interesting enough, and of course the real reason most people will come here, Robert the haunted doll. Was sort of creepy for me because I was the only one in the place besides the employees and I didnt want to breathe any life into Robert by paying him any attention other than walking by. Ive had a frightening experience with a haunted doll many years ago and thats all Im going to say about that.Having the run of the place alone really made the experience special except for wandering off into a closed area by happenstance and unexpectedly surprising some construction worker in the dark. Yipes!! Lol
Very interesting fort and robert the doll is cool awesome veiw on top
Great Fort museum with lots to offer, even Robert the Doll. Affordable entrance fee. They give you touring notes as well to walk through with. Gorgeous views from the top of the Citadel-do not skip the climb to the top if youre able. Fascinating old fort with lots of local history, not just military history. Wish there were guided tours but the notes were a nice touch.
Great museum. Great staff. And Robert The Doll is the absolute best!
Very interesting place! Needs some work on the displays! Dont forget to be polite and say Hello to Robert the Doll!
We understand the whole Covid 19 hours of operation have changed, but please update the hours on the website. We purchased tickets to tour the museum, and when we arrived (before 4:30 which the website claims is closing time), when we arrived the sign on the door stated that is closed an hour and a half earlier than the time on the website and that the museum was closed on weekends. Definitely going to get a refund.
This is a hidden gem of a museum nestled away from the bustle of downtown Key West. Yes, this is the home of the “haunted” Robert the Doll, which got a lovely new display area, complete with spooky music that plays in the background. But it also offered a wonderful history of Key West and it’s perfect for children to roam around. Outside, you’ll find a massive garden, including a miniature home for your toddlers and small children to play in. The gift shop is teeming with goodies and the staff is pleasant and can answer most questions. I can’t recommend this museum enough, especially if you want a little more culture on your Key West vacation.
Lots old pieces. Nice displays in an old fort. Floors are originally to fort, little hard on a scooter but nice to see
Very interesting place make sure to ask Robert the doll if you can take his picture loved it!! Been to KW about 20 times first time at the Fort
I understand the closures & modifications of hours of operation due to Covid-19. What I do not understand is why you could not post the temporary closure on your website. We checked website at 0930, it states open. Still states open at 1531 today. Sign on door states closed til July 7, 2020. Fix your website
3.5 Stars? It’s really pretty neat inside but not really worth the $12 to get in. There is only one small exhibit building. The fort itself is almost empty besides metal art pieces which have nothing to do with the history of the fort. I with there was more historical information about the fort within it. What areas would be used for and even once you got to the top- what you were looking at and toward. I would say it’s maybe worth one visit, but we probably won’t ever go again. There just wasn’t that much to see.
Neat place to visit. Be respectful to Robert.
Robert the doll has been in my dreams ever since I. Moved to Florida I finally got to see him. And became very emotional for about 30 mins after leaving so glad I met him
Excellent tribute to some interesting local artists and some historic haunted items.
My daughter insisted we go to East Martello Museum to meet Robert the Doll. She is very into paranormal activity and all that good stuff. We were surprised and grateful the museum offers active military and dependents with ID cards free entry. Christina was lovely and we thank you.Although the place is small, we took our time and took everything in and actually enjoyed the exhibits. Robert the Doll was everything my daughter wanted him to be and more. Remember to introduce yourself and kindly ask Robert for a pic before snapping away.. trust me when you see him you’ll want to show respect (it’s interestingly creepy) :) Thank you, Robert, for letting us photograph you!
This place is so awesome! It is a place that has great history. Getting to see & meet Robert The Doll was great too. The staff are very nice & accommodating, and they also have a very nice gift shop as well. The price for admission is not bad either, it is worth the money. Great place with awesome artifacts and definitely a place everyone should visit while in Key West!
You cant beat the price. We learned a good bit of history that we didnt know before and we used to live in Monroe County for several years. Our kids enjoyed it, as did we. Their favorite part was the life size doll house they could walk into. If youre physically able to climb the spiral staircase on the interior of the fort, you are rewarded with an unprecedented view of the water.
Your website says open. Your doors say closed until July 1. Just drove into town from Marathon. Thank you so much
Our visit was amazing! And the best part was seeing Robert. We asked permission to take his picture but I didnt ask to share to I wont. It was a great experience with a wonderful view from up top. We got to see tons of fighter jets flying overhead.
Robert the doll was scary. But the depth and diversity of exhibits leaves something to be desired. Given the rich history of key west I expected more. There is a super cool view from the rooftop which is a must do, offering one of a kind views of Key West OceanSide
Neat place to check out, Robert is a little creepy but he historical aspect is cool!
Very cool experience coming to visit this museum! We had a great time. It was really interesting to see many of the sites here. Im not even going to begin to go into the main attraction you can have that experience all to yourself. It is quite the memorable one to say the least! I recommend anyone going to key West to check out this museum while you are there. Its fairly cheap and worth the small amount of time to check it out.
Rude rude rude rude staff. Not a cool enough place for you to be that rude!!!
Had such a awesome time learning of key Wests history.. Thank you this place is amazing.
It says it’s open online and let us purchase tickets but when we got there it says it’s closed until further notice. just say it’s closed online and not waste time and money
Cool, we saw this on the ghost tour, our son wanted to see Robert the doll, I did not want a pic of Robert, so I photographed areas elsewhere.
If you like history, go. But please do not take pictures of Robert the doll
I think most people, as I did, will come here for Robert. And it sure was interesting. But I gotta say, there’s a lot of history in this place, so take your time to go over all the artifacts and explore around the museum, including the upper floor of the fort that has beautiful view.
Great museum to see while one waits for there plane
This is a great spot to visit..full of history and exhibits. Its hot inside. No AC but worth it. You can purchase water inside. New local artist exhibit has AC. Also you can meet Robert the doll. Great story on him..must see!
Must do the ghost tour the place is way better at night.
Robert doll is Nash house caught purples hue house looking down town caught Louis law go now
Very neat museum with lots of history. The highlight is Robert the Doll. Follow the rules and you will be fine!!!!
I originally only went to see Robert the Doll, but I enjoyed learning about key west history. There is no air conditioning in the museum area so be prepared to sweat!
Great history of Key West. Enjoyed being able to take the time to look at everything. Robert the Doll is also here!!
It was a great experience I waited eight years to check off my bucket list. The man in the gift shop was very friendly and informative, the exhibits were well maintained and set up well. I finally got to meet Robert the Doll and am very pleased to say I had his permission to take a photo! I cannot stress this enough: Just be polite and courteous and ASK PERMISSION BEFORE taking his photo. There were a couple other guests who were rude to him, I think he will be expecting their letters of apology soon.
A must see spot for anyone visiting Key West and home of the infamous Robert the doll. Also houses folk art and a lot of history.
Great little Museum. Lots of information about Key West. Dont forget to ask Robert for permission to take his photo.
Great place to check out ♡
Very cool little museum plus you get to see Robert the Doll. Great tour guides and a fun yet creepy haunted experience
Interesting place to visit. Good exhibits. Unusual art
Cool place! Loved hearing the history behind it.
The museum is nice, but I have to admit that the reason I wanted to go to Fort East Martello Museum was because of Robert the Haunted Doll. A doll famous for being haunted and the inspiration for Chucky from the “Childs Play” movies. And it was worth it. The doll is very cool and unusually. I also got a small Robert-doll in the gift shop. Thumbs up for Robert the Doll!
This was a pretty cool place. Robert the Doll was doing his things. GF and I were the only two there so it was cool to have place to ourselves and explore.
This a wonderful historic site and fun for all family members.Parking is a challenge with the Uber/Lyft drivers using up some of the available spaces.
Got to stop in and ask Robert the doll if you can take his picture!
You need to check it out if you love to experience haunted items, but be very respectful.
A very neat and historical little place. Stop in and say hi to Robert the cursed doll.
Another good place to visit when in Key West. Take your time walking through the museum a lot of interesting facts about the island.
Atmosphere is eerie and interesting, really enjoyed the self tour option and exploring the forts hidden wonders. The museum allow you to travel back in time to a period where of discovery and imagination. Recommend you to visit if your in Key West.
Was part of the haunted tour. Crazy activity. Loved it.
Im giving it five stars because I dont want Robert to haunt me. Hes a cool looking doll, the president sent him a letter on his 100th birthday so he has that going for him.
Lost of history and good at filling you with knowledge. A super plus is seeing Robert the Doll very creepy and a must see in Key West!
Another big piece of history here.
This is my favorite museum to visit in Key west. it has amazingartifacts.
Cool stuff...be respectful of Robert the Doll. He is kind, playful and a little sad and lonely
Great experience. Came to see Robert the Doll but there was so much more to see. Beautiful views of the water from the top.
Love the museum and all that it has to offer. So many interesting, and weird items to look at. Entrance fee is on point. Make sure you visit the famous, Robert the Doll. No air conditioning, so dress cool. But, hey, its an old military fort and has lots of history. Its also across the street from the beautiful ocean. Highly recommend.
Whether you are a History buff or into Haunted items, this museum is a MUST VISIT!! The Ladies at the front are so pleasant and so full of information. But BEWARE, Make sure you ASK permission. Before you take Roberts picture!!!!! Make sure you ask about the Roosters!
I’m haunted by Robert the Doll ever since going lol. Great views from the deck up top
Great History and Nice Staff! And make sure to give 5 Stars or Robert will haunt you!
Unique historical building and interesting displays. Loved the junk sculpture display and Robert the doll. Lack of air conditioning in parts of the building made it uncomfortable in the August heat. It is out of the Old Town area, so we took an Uber to get there.
Very interesting. Self guided and worth the stop. And Robert the Doll!
Very inexpensive little fort. I loved learning the history throughout the fort and meeting Robert the Doll. He was a very good listener and his sailor suit was much nicer in person. Thanks so much for letting me look around the fort and take pictures of Robert. I will definitely be back with more people!
Interesting visit to a civil war fort rendered obsolete before it was finished.
Nice historic site. Knowledgeable staff.
We went because it was a stop on the Ghosts and Graveyard tour to see Robert The Doll. The tour guide at the museum was cheesy and spoke in a cheesy trying to be scary tone.It would have been better and more credible if she just spoke in her normal voice.
Pretty cool little museum with a self guided tour. Did I ask him??? I wont tell.
Museum was nice. The old fort is awesome. Robert the doll is here under glass. Very cool
It was a nice museum, and it was good to seeagain the haunted Robert The Doll.
Its a self tour I always like it better when you have someone who loves their job giving tours. It was well preserved but a little unorganized.
Loved everything the had on exhibit here!
Great history and a Funky Key West museum
Loved the museum. Lots to explore n Robert the doll
Fort East Martello Museum hosts Key West most famous resident...or entity. The story of Robert the Doll will surely have you curious to know more. Just make sure you ask Robert the Doll if it is ok to take photos or video. A video on screen shows letters of unfortunate events people documented for not asking. If you do forget, beg for forgiveness, apologize and leave money in the offering box or you may find out your pet died while you were away.Or worst, a car accident. I personally witnessed the doll house lights flicker and the baby carriage moving on its own. There is something definitely strange about Robert the Doll. The museum however, is not all about Robert. It offers pieces and information of history throughout your visit.
Interesting, but weve been to better.
Neat stop with a wonderful view. The admission prices are a little steep. Especially since you can get in Fort Zachary Taylor for half the price. Other than that, the staff was polite and the history presented was neat.
The location is breath taking. The museum is a nice, quaint, little museum. Every time Ive been its always been a chill environment. No big crowds, no annoying kids running around everywhere. The citadel was closed when we went and we still got charged full price... I suggest going ONLY when the citadel is open
Interesting place!! And OH Robert the doll is worth checking out...
Got there early and pretty much had the museum too myself with Robert the doll
Loved it. Robert the doll is a must see....
Really cool place and a must do if it’s your first visit to key west. Would have gave it 5stars but it is over priced for what you get. There is lots of parking at this museum and easy to get to. However If you are visiting for the first time and Plan on going other places do your self a favor and do the old town trolley. Streets are small crowded and no parking! The trolley will drop you off all over the city and you can hop on and off freely. As a bonus Tell you the history of the city as you ride along. If you plan on doing fort zachary taylor just plan on it being a beach day and don’t book a trolley
Stopped to see Robert the doll. Very unusual doll. Did not take photos of Robert but did take photos of the grounds outside at night and there were orbs that showed up in some of the photos.Interesting piece of history to visit, with interesting story.
Followed all Robert the dolls rules...great stop on our ghosts and gravestones tour!! Lulu and Dolores
Typical fort of this genre. Lots of exhibits including Robert the doll. Haunted?
Beautiful history everywhere you look here. Check out their website for special events. Dont forget to say hi to Robert... And ask permission before taking his picture.
My husband and I went here primarily to see Robert the Doll and expected to spend about a half an hour here. Well, the place is much larger than it looks from the outside and has a plethora of information and artifacts from Key West history. We ended up spending about 2 and 1/2 hours here. Paid admission to the Fort East Martello Museum earns you a discount at some of the other local museums. The friendly clerk will provide that information as you enter.
Some interesting exhibits, nice historical information and details, the fort structure in the center outside was entirely empty other than some creepy but interesting large metal art pieces, I dont really buy into the whole Robert thing though. Pretty flora decor.
Beautiful spot. Very interesting.
Great Fort Museum and Robert the Doll was a lot of fun! Wrote a letter to him since I didnt ask permission to take his photo!
Unfortunately, I told my family that Robert the Doll was right down the street from our hotel, so they insisted on seeing him before leaving Key West. The museum was really cool, I particularly enjoyed learning about the forts role in the Civil War. Alan at the front desk was very helpful and informative, and we enjoyed talking to him at the end of our experience. $10 to get in, and a fun and educational (if not a pretty creepy) adventure.
A great experience for any first timers in Key West! Robert the Doll was the main attraction for me, but I loved learning the history of Key West. Staff was very polite. Will be back!
Saw it on the ghost tour. Well done!
