Nice relaxing escape right near town. The Kalamazoo Nature Center is worth a trip, I usually come here for a leisurely walk in solitude or to connect with my family and friends, but KNC offers much more if you are looking for classes or guided hikes. Support them; they are a good thing!
Although it had been several years since I last visited the KNC, many things remained familiar. Its Tropical Sun/Rain Room was still well maintained with live birds flying about. We chose a series of the centers linked outdoor nature trails to enjoy the grounds. All had been decently maintained, and provided a momentary retreat into the grounds natural beauty.
Very pretty. Was a very nice walk. If you like birds there are many different kinds.
A great place for a hike. Beautiful anytime of the year.
A wonderful place to spend the day. Personally, I love the trail that runs along the stream down to the Kalamazoo river. Its amazingly beautiful all through the year. We got married in the butterfly garden on the other side of the property. It was the perfect day and a big part of that was the perfect setting. Thank you to all the staff at KNC. You do a great job!
I love trailing at this place! I almost stepped on a garter snake and saw a herd of deer running through a meadow. Also, the visitors center has some exhibits of animals theyre currently rehabilitating that wouldnt be able to survive in the wild. With 16 trails, theres a lot of variety at this nature center that needs recurrent visits to experience everything they have to offer.
Beautiful place to see and learn about nature. I have been going here since I was a kid and it is always a treat. There are plenty of trails that highlight different types of landscapes. There is also an interpretive center to explore. The adjacent historical homestead is also a great way to spend an hour or so. The weekends can be a little busy, but there is so much to do it hardly ever seems crowded. Nice way to spend a day.
Awesome place! We can for the Maple Sugar Festival and it was a great event with lots of fun and educational things for the kids to do. Certainly plan to come back and check out more of the trails!
Great program for kids to get outdoors and explore. Special events are always well planned, and executed. It’s awesome to have a place like this in Kalamazoo
Really enjoyed spending time there. The visitor center has a pretty decent gift shop and the little play area is ok. The hiking trails on the other hand were something I have never seen before! I would love to come back someday. This was the highlight of my day. But just a little warning... a lot of bugs! Put on bug spray, and you should be just fine. :)
We love the nature center!! It’s such an under rated place to take your kids in Kalamazoo! If the weather is nice tha natural playground is such a hit! If it’s cold or rainy there is so much to do inside. The visitors center has a huge playroom and weekly activities as well! So many creatures on site for the littles to look at!
Love the nature center. They have many trails that range from trails that go through valleys of older forest areas, walk on a boardwalk out to the river, trails through prairies and trails that go through the old gravel pit. Its nice to see a little of everything if you decide to walk it all. Great spot for photo opportunities!
What a place to get away
Ive been going here since literally as long as I can remember. It is a beautiful facility. Very educational visitor center, with lots of little exhibits great for kids. They also have a lot of programs, including a lot that are great for kids. When I was younger, I took several programs while I was still in school. I visited the nature center yesterday, and it bought back do many sweet memories :). Oh, and dont forget to hike some trails while here, if you can. They have a very nice trail system with a variety of habitats. Yesterday I walked the River Walk trail, and it was absolutely beautiful walking along that trout run stream, as well as peacefully resting by the Kalamazoo River. And to conclude, on the way out I bought some of their delicious syrup. Trust me, its worth the money!
We really enjoyed hiking the trails at Kalamazoo Nature Center. Quite a range of difficulty levels to suit anyones preference and ability including handicap accessible trails. Beautiful views of flowers, forests, streams, a covered bridge and more. Plus indoor exhibits. Got to see an adorable owl up close.
We had a great time celebrating Earth Day. The trails are great and very interesting. Lots to look at on well maintained grounds. Both the inside and out have lots to offer and many fascinating things to view. We had a blast!
Very nice place to go if you like nature and you can go swimming or fishing
My mom brought me to the KNC as a child and now Im doing the same with my children. So many memories. Their hiking trails are superb, childrens programming that cant be topped (especially the owls), and a legacy of reminding all of us how special Southwest Michigan really is. Were members and cant recommend this place more highly than we already do.
The Nature Center grounds was picture perfect for our wedding. Even though it was over our budget, we liked that the money went to support the Nature Center, a non-profit. Rose was very responsive and good to work with. She loves sustainability and so do we! She was fairly flexible with times. I wish we could have had longer to set up the space however. We ended up renting the venue for an hour longer. We also were able to borrow some things from Rose for décor which was a pleasant surprise. Cant wait to get our pictures back but the grounds were so beautiful in the late summer/early fall. The guests loved being at the Nature Center too. Super accessible with the amphitheater for the ceremony and barn space for the reception. I would definitely recommend to brides and grooms considering the space!
The Kalamazoo Nature Center has a large amount of trails. My family enjoys hiking them. The gravel pits on the property are fun to look through for rock collectors. We have found many fossilized rocks here. The summer camps that are held here for the kids are the best. Each week there is a different theme. The staff is amazing. They are always friendly. At the end of camp there is a family fest every week which is nice for family to see what their child did every week. You can also meet some of the nature centers animals. I love how educational and fun it is here.Highly recommend the Kalamazoo Nature Center and the Kalamazoo Nature Center Summer Camp.
Beautiful, peaceful, quiet, flowers!!
Went for a Sunday afternoon that coinesided with a free day at the nature center. Its a remarkably expansive property with a couple of historic buildings that offer a full day of fun for the family. Strongly considering a membership for the year after the visit!
So much fun, great trails. Try Raptor Ridge!
Such great hiking trails for all ages. Everything is well marked. Be sure to bring bug spray!
We went here for a walk, it was a cloudy day but still great to walk all the way to the Kalamazoo river. We cant wait for summer to see the butterfly and hummingbird garden. We will go back.
We love the trails and the variety and we have gotten to meet some animals there on random visits. We rented a room for a party and had a trail mix bar and brought stuff for kids to make a rock pet. It was amazing.
Went here with granson with his school on a field trip. Great place for everyone.
My husband and I treated ourselves to membership last year and will be renewing for this year. Love to experience nature, hike the trails, and see the exhibits. The staff has always been friendly and Im so glad it is a no dogs and no smoking place. It is tranquil, beautiful nature reserve, and unpolluted.
Didnt know it cost to get in, but after seeing the resources offered, it makes sense. Great educational experience. Hiking is fine - nothing strenuous at all, which I actually prefer to have. That said, what is there is beautiful and quite serene. Glad I went.
One of the best places to take hike and the trails are in very good condition. Lots of activities for children and families.
Such a Peaceful & Pretty place to walk my Fur Babiesabies!
Multiple trails through different settings in Kalamazoos backyard make this or favorite local hiking spot.
Better outdoor experiences exist. Lots of rules here, like no dogs, bikes, or running inside the park. Costs cash just to get in. Most of all, theres nothing natural to see here that you cant see at any other reserve or park around here.EDIT: Now Ive just had an experience with maintenance asking me to leave while hiking and photographing birds near the solar panels. This area is in no way marked Restricted or Closed to Visitors or anything similar.Dont waste your time or money here.
Great park that is both educational and fun. Terrific events year round. Highly recommend for everyone.
Good for wedding an kids an 6 miles hikes. Have a few birds of prey but in my opinion the Battle Creek bird sanctuary is a lot better
We took our granddaughters today! What a beautiful area for woods walking. The center is so nice. We will definitely return.
Great place in nature, but do NOT allow dogs
Very amazing place to visit. The trails and picnic areas are very well kept. Ive been coming here for many years and I dont plan to stop. The butterfly thing is super cool. The bug exhibits are very educational. The animals are great. The staff is always helpful. I came here for school field trips when I was am elementary school goer. We removed invasive plants and got to learn so many things. The summer programs here are so amazing. The homestead is so cool, there is so much to learn there. The streams are super nice, sometimes there are water snakes. I liked to pick a leaf of jewel-weed when I was a kid and put it in the water to see the silver glare. I would absolutely recommend this place to absolutely anybody.
Peacful so close to the city
Excellent nature center with surprisingly extensive hiking trails despite be located close to the City of Kalamazoo and not on public lands. The Kalamazoo river is particularly nice. Great spot for kids especially.
Amazing service from staff, very nice, a beautiful place to wind down in and enjoy hiking in the trails
Winter hiking is awesome. Looking forward to snowshoes!!
Easy hiking links up to Kalamazoo valley trail
On an unusually chilly May day (we saw snow falling), we hesitantly decided to have our family outing at the KNC. I cant express how favorably impressed I am with this facility! The indoor center is fun for all ages and the hiking trails are well maintained. We had a wonderful time and hope to go again--hopefully in warmer temps!
Awesome experience!
Great place to relax
The nature center is a great location to jump onto the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail. It is FREE parking if you will be using the trail. If you plan to go into the nature center it is a $7 fee for adults and $4 for children. The hiking/biking trail has several large hills and will give you a challenge if you dont go out often.
Best nature center ever. Lots of hiking trails and friendly staff. Especially Dave Brown. He is pretty much the smartest naturalist ever. You should talk to Dave if you have ANY questions.
A great place to view nature and to see things in nature
Took my family for the maple festival, left as a member of two groups. Great times and Im looking to go again soon.
Fantastic family place- walking trails, a nice path through a tunnel to ovelook the Kalamazoo river, nature center with indoor exhibits, fish tanks, and recovering big birds-owls and hawks.
The trails are beautiful and I find the volunteers to always be so friendly and informative. I love the tall grass prairie at its zenith, especially. Wonderful for children and anyone that appreciates nature.
Ive been many times as a kid and adult...pure nature!
Great fun Geocaching at Delano homestead
Awesome place we went late april and weather is just perfect not to hot or cold 7 dollar per adult entrance fee get a little excersize walking around some great trails and seeing a few animals in the indoor center, cant think of a better way to spend a spring afternoon.Pro tip: when we went, The maple trail was by far the best I saw beautiful stream running through....the trail that says there is a pond on it, near delane (sp) parking was disappointing haha it was a dirty little puddle when we saw it not quite worth the walk
Well i went few years back and it was breathtaking. Really is one of the only places besides church where i can find my inner peace.
Great time going on a bug hunt with the grandkids.
Wonderful nature trails and several bird exhibits.
Great place near Kalamazoo to go hiking and feel far removed from civilization.
I went with the intention of getting a membership for everyone in the family but after deciding to check it out first i regretted even paying the entry for all. A lot of exhibits were empty, no educational or fun things for kids, trails were ok, staff was busy with each other all over the place.
Great nature sitting. Walking trails and kids campsdaytime .
The trails alone are worth the entry fee!!!
Went there my nephews Wedding, nice place
