Super nice place and its only $5 to get in and look at some beautiful artwork by so many artists. I spent most of the two hours we had left in town looking at the art. This sculpture of a human figure was one of my absolute favorite in the hole gallery and this was done by a young artist in Kalamazoo.

If youre concerned about safety from COVID, the staff and security were a bit over the top for me, but for those with concerns, you will feel comfortable. I didnt care for the art pieces, they seemed very dark and disturbing. The venue is small and you can move through very quickly. Not a favorite and wouldnt recommend or go back.

If you love art, or are raising your children to have a love for art, then this is just the place for you. They have quite a collection in their gallery, and even have a cool little playroom downstairs for children to play in and get creative. They also offer art classes for all ages. My son attended an art class a while ago and it was amazing. The teacher was very friendly, as are all the other employees that I have talked to there. Highly recommend.

Great place to take your kids if theyre well-behaved and you explain the rules of going to such a place. Kalamazoo Institute of Arts is a historic institution and Kalamazoo Michigan which was founded for the Arts force and has really done a lot for the community in promoting and maintaining the pursuit of the visual arts. I have attended at least 5 semesters on scholarship at Kalamazoo Institute of Arts. I would not be able to afford good training without the scholarship. I am very grateful to Kalamazoo Institute of Arts for their generosity and quality.

My first time going to the KIA was today with my daughters first grade class. I was very excited and have heard great things. We didnt get much time in the museum but the time we spent was very disappointing. The first exhibit we saw was a corner piled up with candy. Now she had them sit around this candy and they were only allowed to talk about it. Not touch and especially not eat. You could see the torture on everyone of their faces. We did get to see an artist I believe her name was Ikaia? Or something near that. Her art was beautiful but she didnt give much about each piece and mostly talked to the kids about lines and shapes. I get it. Theyre first graders. But they were just deprived of a mountain of candy and sat and talked to a real artist about lines and shapes I think they would have enjoyed knowing more about the pieces she actually painted. The little bit of time we were there seemed like a bit of a stretch to call it a museum and I could tell the kids were just as disappointed as I was. I understand abstract art is a thing.. But a pile if candy in front if 30 first graders is just cruel lol..I was glad we didnt have to pay to get in. Staff was friendly and place was clean. I just had higher expectations for Kalamazoo Art Institute.
