Great place with trails that lead either to the nature park center or walk or drive down to the indoor garden. It is usually used for events or closed but still amazing to look at the greenhouse and plants from outside an well as inside.
Love this place my niece had her wedding there. Absolutely beautiful!!
Best kids classes around and by far our favorite place to hike and enjoy nature!
Wow it was awesome seeing the fall colors. That was our first time there.
It was beautiful.. And i love that you can drive thru it. Its the perfect place to learn to drive
Beautiful trails. Lovely nature center and botanical garden.
Awesome area with many trails branching off.
In the heart of a short but beautiful trail system, this little gem is very welcoming. Its also a great place to take a break if theres an unexpected rainstorm
Nice place but the road through the preserves, is way too long.
Always here. Love this place
Staff is great. My husband takes our scarlet macaw to visit Tweetie and staff. So kind and caring.Nancy is tweetiesmon, great lady.
A jewel of Joliet and Will County.
Great nature center. We rented the gathering room and the staff was very helpful and had it all set for us when we got there. Nice space for a meeting or ceremony.
Walked there from maple and Parkwood beautiful area very nice staff
Great woods and deer everywhere.
Out of this world experience at Pilcher Park. Was able to participate and enjoy an educational program. The interpreters who staffed the program were so impressive. I look forward to the opportune time that I get to take the family back to Joliet and visit nature.
This is one of my favorite spots! It is beautiful and I loved taking the kids there when they were younger now I take my dogs and they love it as well!
Are you an animal lover ? Then this place is perfect for you. Educational information about animals. Your kids would surely have fun. Or have a stroll into the woods and enjoy the ambiance of nature.
Beautiful park always enjoy hiking the trails
Great park plenty of trails about a mile long loop to drive on garbage picked up first thing in the morning they keep it clean
The trails are nice but a lot of garbage on the ground
A walk through Pilcher is always a great time! If you go, take a stroll through the green house!
I take my granddaughter all the time. We love it! She takes a lot of the classes. Nice staff.
What a great experience! Cant wait to visit in the summer when the weather is warmer.
Peacful area
Lots of fun things to see and touch! Spent about a hour here. Wish the staff was friendlier, though...
Havent go but seems cool
We love the Nature Center. Lots of animals for young children to see including snakes, turtles fish, reptiles, ferrets, guinea pigs and a hawk. There are indoor and outdoor activities to enjoy and lots of classes and special events. We have attended their Sap to Syrup event and Spring until Ceramics. Very affordable, fun and highly recommended.
My Dad, my Uncle, my Hubby and myself thoroughly enjoyed our visit! We highly recommend it to everybody, especially the animal lovers who enjoy nature!
Been coming here for over 30 years for the annual pancake breakfast. Really beautiful place, with a nature center for kids nature ed. Interesting Maple Sugar shack with syrup made from the trees on site. One day I want to come back here with my bike and explore the trails .
Great place to visit! Live animals in the center. Also offers preschool!
A hidden gem in Joliet.
Always interesting. Love all the animals and educational talks about them. Now I know which one is a girl turtle and which one is the boy. :)
My home away from home! LOVE this park... Ohhhh, the memories!
Great place if you just want to take a peacful stroll through the woods. They also have a cute nature center.
Great place to bring the kids or simply walk around and be in nature
Beautiful area and very educational
Kool place for hiking or just a nice walk
A great spot to spend a few hours at the park and nature center.
Great place to walk the trails be sure to bring your pets
Awesome job by the staff for my daughters birthday party!!! Big space and very accommodating. The kids enjoyed the whole thing!
A fantastic place to visit. This is really just part of a larger Park system, the are really three Parks combined together here. the parks are Pilcher Park, Highland Park and bird Haven. The Nature Center is located within the Pilcher Park section. the roads are paved very nicely, its scenic and theres a nice area where Hickory Creek runs through this entire park. On the far East section of the park there is also a large Conservatory with many plants. On the Far Western section of this Park complex is a Frisbee Golf Course. So this is quite an adventurous area to explore. a further interest you may find, across Gouger Road that borders the Far Eastern section is yet another Forest Preserve called Higginbottom Woods. There are hiking trails lots of wooded areas a picnic area a childrens play section and bike trails. Pack a lunch and spend the day! Or drive through for a short visit either way you can find plenty to do dont forget the Nature Center is almost a miniature zoo in its own right.
This place is gorgeous! Do prepare to be here for awhile because there are multiple trails !
This is a wonderful nature preserve, and they have many kid-friendly programs at the Nature Center. The Birdhaven Greenhouse also has a lovely conservatory. Plus--no cost for admission!
We have a severe littering problem here!!! Please, stop littering!!! The park itself is beautiful.
When I was a kid they took in my turtle great people
Nice little place with snake, turtles and a red tailed hawk
This place is so cute, I love the little “zoo” kind of area with all the snakes & turtles. A nice place to take kids to and a nice place for a long walk with a nice view and it’s much more clean now than it was a few years ago when I visited, I was happy about that. Very pleased with my visits so far this year!
Underground Railroad Experience is great!
Great nature walk leafs are changing very pretty
Beautiful little tucked-away nature center. Inside the Nature Center they have a variety of different animals to see. Staff members are very child-oriented and are happy to teach kids about the animals in the preserve. They also have a small area to buy trinkets and snacks. The forest preserve itself is also beautiful and fun to walk through. My son did a camp here and is already begging me to go back next year.
Loud muscle cars and pot smoking, necking, and making out 430 PM on Labor Day. Only 2 accessible places to fish the creek, and a stagnant spillway as you come in off Route 30. Very disappointing.
This has been a favorite place to visit ever since I was a kid. The Nature Center is great for the kids and I love hiking through the park .
Love the work that was done to really spruce up this area and make it fresh again. The road has beem repaved, barriers have been installed to discourage dumping and electronic gates now prevent access at night.Ive always felt this park was an incredible asset to the area but it had been neglected for a long time. Its refreshing to see all the positive changes theyve made here.
Good place
There was a lot of garbage. I picked up some and threw it in garbage cans as I walk around. Otherwise its a nice park.
One of my favorites in the area.
Great place to bring children and to walk around. No fee to enter but there is a donation box.
Really pleasant place. Had a feeling as if I had completely left the city and found a real forest trail. The kids even saw a deer. Benches line the waters edges so you can just sit in the shade or sun and relax.
Love taking my family to Pilcher. We love walking the trails, listening and looking for animals. Looking at all the plant life. And the nature center is really nice too!
Its all changed no more bumpy bad roads all new Road all new trails to ride or walk the trails are amazing...... I remember back in my day when the fountain was there they also had a train and you can buy burgers and ice cream they should go back old school
Great place to bring the kids to see some animals and go for a walk. Also has activities you can sign up children for. Would recommend.
Great small wildlife with friendly staff.
Love this place. You can check out fishing poles and nature backpacks for free! Great for families. There are even a few trails for strollers and wheelchairs.Congratulations to Pilcher Park for acquiring nature preserve status with the Illinois Nature Preserve Commission!
Did 6 hours of community service here with my best friend
The best always meet new people
This hidden gem is a well kept secret. Natures bounty abounds in this wonderful preserve along Hickory Creek. Nature enthusiasts will be in heaven!
Always loved coming here, seeing all the beautiful scenery, walking the trails, visiting all the animals they have in the Nature Center. Theres endless amounts of things to do here. I will always have this place in my heart, and I miss it a lot ever since Ive moved.
Great place for preschool and grade school children.
Me and my Gf love this Park and Recreational Center. Its very Nostalgic for us because we both grew up in Joliet and loved it as kids. Its a great park family friendly and the center is just Amazing. Bring your whole family kids and all. Walk the lovely trails in the woods behind the Nature Center and take in all the informative signs that teach about the animals and surroundings. Five star park and Center for sure.
Good place to take kids to look at nature.
The park is quite large and includes numerous winding roads that offer stunning views. There is a dam near the entrance of the park that is also a beautiful to view. The roads are meant to be enjoyed so I recommend driving slowly at a leisurely pace. Get your camera or cell phone ready for some great photos.
Great trails and nature center is fantastic. Also, lots of programs for youth.
So awesome to see all of the improvements that have been made here since I grew up. Definitely worth a try.
Pretty nice place. Need a few more animals to be a zoo. Nice date spot for picnic.
This is a great place to take your kids for a quick nature walk and to see all the critters in the nature center. The trails are mostly paved and dog friendly.
I have been going to this nature center and the Horticultural center since I was a child. The nature Center is great for children of all ages. They have wheelchair accessible access and paths too. Once you get into the center there is a turtle pond, fish tanks, a hawk enclosure, bearded dragon, ferrets, and much more. I signed up my daughter for the Little Sprouts class and it was perfect for a 1 year old! She loved it. There was a nature walk where we learned about flowers, book reading, snacks, and the class was an hour which was just about the right time. It definitely had my daughters interest. We will definitely be signing up for the next one!
Restful walk through the greenhouses looking at all the plants and trees. Even a lovely waterfall and koi pond
Great walking paths, with some of them paved. There is also a nature center with a few animals and some hands-on pieces of nature for kids (antlers, bones, etc.). The people working there are extremely friendly and knowledgeable (did you know all deer lose their entire antlers every year and grow them back, even the giant ones? I didnt!). If you go at certain times of the year youll see spigots stuck in the maple trees to collect the sap. There is a sugar shack on site they use to make syrup. All in all a fantastic place to take a hike and learn a few things about nature!
Went with group of students, awesome trip
Its Maple Syrup collecting time! Great breakfast.
Nice park but shady people in it
Very nice park. Lots of trails, many recently resurfaced. Also new bridges. Lots of shade. No one minds if well behaved dogs are off leash, unless you go near the Nature Center.
This is a great, largely shaded park - perfect for the hot summer hike. Bring bug spray (loads of mosquitoes and theyve tested positive for West Nile recently) and $0.25 for a park map. Serene - didnt run into anyone else on the trail.
Beautiful forest and the nature center is awesome.
The Nature Center is absolutely beautiful and they have a room where you can have a shower or a birthday party or get-together of any kind it will probably call hold about 70 people very very nice people were great girl named Jen was very nice
